Studio 1535, Wireless 1397 and Linksys WRT54G

Hi all

Because I was a good boy and BestBuy offered a good financing deal I decided to buy the Studio 1535 LT last Sunday.

Basic specifications:

  • Dell Studio 1535
  • Windows Vista Edition Home Premium SP1 (64-Bit o/s)
  • 4.00 GB RAM
  • 320 GB HD
  • Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8100 2.10 GHz

Work and play has prevented me from doing much more that load the dough until the last day or two.

Its pretty much a laptop terrible operationally.  Were nearly as robust as my XPS M140.  But that is a different post.

The question I have (and forgive me if I repeat all messages but I have not "seen something which seems to solve my problem so far) is that the laptop does not stay on the wireless network.  It will drop the connection after a few minutes.  Its really frustrating because I'm doing some basic windows and Norton, updates... I didn't get beyond this part to install anything else... really knew UH I mean his frustration.

I did the following to try to resolve this problem:

  • Updated the F/W on the Linksys V8.00.5 build 002, January 9, 2008
  • Updated the BIOS of the laptop to A05
  • Changed the management of power to 'High Performance' last night, I noticed that the problem persists even if the laptop is plugged.
  • Reloaded the Configuration "As delivered" o/s Original 8 times so far, going on 9, tonight, just for yucks.

What I've noticed, is that, whatever happens, the wireless reception is always good to excellent.  I'm currently sitting about 10 feet from the A / P and get a great signal on the old XPS and the 1535.

And the 1535 just dropped its connection again.

Now the network connection comes back, but not internet access.  It will stay like that until I make a diagnosis on this subject, in which case Windows Vista is going to say that there is nothing wrong with the connection.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, even if all you do is post a link to the solution in a response.

  • Dell Studio 1535 - Vista does not recognize 1397 wireless adapter

    Hello

I had to reinstall Vista on my Dell Studio 1535 and the re-install, I wasn't able to connect to the wi - fi because apparently Vista doesn't recognize the card wireless site. In Device Manager, it lists the generic 'network controller' and has a question mark next to it.

I installed system software Dell, Dell Notebook System software, Quickset, chipset drivers and the R206848 file that contains drivers of 1397, yet its still not recognized. What Miss me?

Thank you Rick. Still could not make it work this way, so ultimately I clicked on the generic and clicked Update Driver network controller and then said that he resembles c:\dell\drivers, and he finds the right driver and installed properly. Wireless now works!

  • Linksys WRT54G broadcasts simultaneously two wireless signals.

Everyone knows the Linksys WRT54G Router broadcast two signals?  I did a wirelss security reset in my modem the other day and changed the name of the SSID broadcast.  Now I have the old and the new SSID broadcast at the sametime.  When I go into my router I see that a new figure.  My problem is that the new SSID I created is encrypted with WPA Personal and older SSID broadcasting still is not encrypted, anyone can jump on the signal.  The older SSID has been initially encrypted in WEP... I can't understand this.  Can anyone help?

FYI... the new SSID signal is very strong and the most original is weak.

I turned on MAC filtering wireless in order to prevent anyone with a laptop that is close to my network.

Your router can broadcast only one SSID. If you have changed and configure WPA Personal then that's for sure.

The unsecured "linksys" network is your neighbor. If you check the web interface of the unsecured "linksys" network you will see that it is another. See the status page.

  • Wireless router to modem Homeportal 1800 HG 2wire Linksys WRT54G with questions

I have the Linksys WRT54G, and I'm trying to use it as the router to my modem 2wire Homeportal 1800 HG wireless.  The 2wire has four ethernet Sockets in the back marked from 1 to 4 and a telephone jack to connect to the wall for AT & T DSL service.

I have the phone jack connected, and:

    -an ethernet cable

-to one of the sockets at the back of the 2wire ethernet

-to the 'Internet' on the Linksys ethernet jack

    - and an ethernet cable

-to one of the ethernet (1-4) at the back of the linksys

-to the ethernet port on the computer

The Linksys is unable to connect via the modem and reports that it may not get an IP address from the PPPoE server.  (Directly connect to the 2wire works well though.)

    Who am I wrong configuration?

There is no side effect of bridge mode... It is one of the mode in which the modem function. When the modem is in bridge mode, you cannot go online with the computer connected directly to the modem... and you will get a 169.254.x.x ip address.

So after you convert the modem into bridge mode, you must do the PPPoE settings on the router to go online via router.

    Looking for any help.

    Finally a resolution...

I tried running an ePrint of New York telephone, and it worked, but still no luck wirelessly from the PC printing.

He said that the WiFi was indeed working.  So, I did a search for new firmware and found that there was one in April of this year (2016).  Downloaded and took a chance on install.  To my amazement, it is actually installed on the printer without any connection "connected".  Who told me that there is an existing wireless link.

Once the install is complete firmware, I tried to print a worksheet Excel from the PC, and it actually printed!  I have to assume there was something in the formware upgrade which allowed the router from LinkSys (WRT1900AC) to communicate fully and to work with the PC.  The router was published in 2014, so maybe it was.

In any event, everything is in fully working again.

Man y thanks to all who have shared their data entry.  I hope this could help someone with a similar problem in the future.

    Thanks again!

  • Studio 1535 with white screen and "ERROR CODE: 0321 LCD EDID - EDID EEPROM ACCESS IMPOSSIBLE.

Studio 1535 (laptop with Vista and NOTE from the ADMIN: tag removed in accordance with the Service Privacy Policy > suddenly, showing no display a few days ago.)  I tried to unplug the power cord and the battery, and make a stop by pressing the power button, but none of these methods have had no effect.  I got nothing else than a white screen, but when I fix a monitor external, everything works fine on the external monitor.

Also, I have the flashing volume control keys and I was wondering if this could be a clue to what is happening and what needs to be corrected?  The Mute key and the Volume up key flashing on and outside at the same time.  The low Volume key is regularly.

Then I run the diagnostic test that I had "ERROR CODE: 0321 LCD EDID - UNABLE to ACCESS EDID EEPROM '

No idea if this could be a backlight or LCD question, question of video chip or broken cable?    Thank you!

    Hi JITeglia,

I suggest you to replace the LCD LVDS cable on the system first, since it is the cheapest part. If the system is still facing the same issue to replace the LCD screen.

  • Windows 7 Home Edition Premium and Linksys E3000 and configuration problems with Dell/Broadcom half mini wireless 1501 wireless adapter DWLAN

I'be been on the net looking for an answer requarding my Linksys E3000 router and my card adapter Mini PCI Dell/Broadcom DWLAN (DraftN) haf installed on my laptop Dell Inspiron N7010 XL 17 R and the inability to configure the card so he gets the same speed-172 wireless MBps_ as does our HP Vista Home Premium SP2 Laptop and Desktop! Yes, I spoke with Dell who seem to think that all their problems Tech and resolutions can be found with their technicians of the Manila-based Super (Word of warning-do NOT enter into the world of the concierge program of Dell Tech who, after having been assured it is based in the United States, I agreed to be a beta tester and lost my harddrive despite numerous attempts to stop the technicians to access remotely to do stupid things - but the new live Webcam and learn the hard drive but got none of my software original Dell with it as promised, too - another story). In any case, after playing with the DWLAN share of Dell said they question-nope Linksys ' cuz of course my other two computers would be quick at the speed they do. So I get ahold of Comcast, who of course told me, it's a matter of DELL. I have the WPA2 encryption on a network secure, but because my router there is no way to set up a "secure" network guest unless I have disable access to him (seems odd, he says: it is not guaranteed when someone trying to pass over the network, has knowledge password-weird with this router) it is anyway with this mini half DWLAN and the fact that it is not near the speed as the two other wireless adapters. My problem is with the speed I found all kinds of tips for use between Comcast Modem and Linksys router to make your network hum. What I want for now is someone to tell me how to configure this adapter on this Dell computer, so it does the job, it should. I have a program of diagnosis with her and from what I see, I must get off channel 1 as there is too much interference, but before I go and change the settings of the router, I want the adapter to work - especially since it's about 100 Mbps slower than our other wireless adapters. Does anyone know what should be the correct settings for this DWLAN 1501 or that I now need a new adapter in this laptop as well? Thanks for your help.

    LindaSView

    Hi Linda,.

Have you tried to forget an instant wireless and bypass the router and cable connect directly to the modem to see if you get the speed you want in this way?  Yes, I know that this means to temporarily suspend the internet connection to the local network and also means the creation of a special no wireless connection for this computer.  But it could help determine if the problem is the computer and the router or wireless adapter - which excluding at least.

If it works fine, then you can pass the wireless problem.  Otherwise, if it is still slow with a direct link, then you may need to consider another problem is involved and the router and adapter can actually be very well and you need to focus on all that is the bottleneck.

I'm suggesting this to eliminate the possibilities that can be the underlying cause, while you spend your time on the development of bad (although I admit that I think that you are right and it is more likely - it can be useful a test just to be sure).

    Good luck!

  • How to get the IP address Linksys WRT54GS DHCP assigns to a Wi - Fi connection?

To connect the Linksys WRT54GS to a demonstration of Microchip DV102411 WiFi Comm card I need the IP address assigned by DHCP. The Administration WRT54GS log is enabled, but there is no incoming or outgoing network activity. The DV102411 can see the SSID linsys scanning for wireless networks and attached to it but once attached, I need to know the address IP of the DV102411 has been given by the WRT54GS.

  • Guest WIFI Linksys WRT54GS by connecting (v6) to ActionTec (verizon fios)...

    Hello

I want to activate access wifi comments so that I do not share my wifi password main with the guests to allow them to access the Internet (for browsing mainly).

I currently have Verizon FIOS as my ISP and use ActionTec (MI424WR Rev I). Unforunately, due to certain levels of firmware, allowing access as guest (via dual SSID) is not possible.

I have an old router d LinkSys WRT54GS (v6) and I was wondering if I can use to connect to my rounter Verizon ActionTec providing guest network? I want to keep Verizon FIOS ActionTec as my main router that I have other devices connected and configured for it.

So, I was wondering how to connect WRT54GS (v6) to my Verizon ActionTec rounter to leave wifi access without me offering me the passwd wifi main comments?

My WRT54GS (v6) does NOT run any DD - WRT or OpenWRT f/w but it is running original LinkSys f/w (1.52.8).

I want to know the following:

    (1) do I need to connect the LAN of router LinkSys LAN Port of Verizon ActionTec port? Or can I connect to LAN_port of Verizon ActionTec WAN_port of LinkSys?

    (2) do I need to disable the DHCP server on LinkSys?

    (3) can I create an additional SSID (with friendly passwd) on LinkSys for allow comments access this SSID while I access my original SSID of ActionTec?

I went thru' http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=132275 and I tried, but my devices were not able to access internet when connecting to guest SSID.

Thus, you can enjoy a few tips here. Thank you!

    Kind regards

    Diakité.

Hi kamdard. You can actually set up the WRT54GS as a wireless network completely different from the one you are currently configuring it with a different name and a different password. If you want the host computers or wireless devices behind the WRT54GS to be able to communicate with the computers behind the ActionTec router then you can follow the method from LAN to LAN. If this isn't the case, then follow the LAN WAN configuraiton.

Only, you will need to disable DHCP on the ActionTec if you follow the method from LAN to LAN.

For easy setup, I have personally, suggest that you follow the LAN WAN config. This means that you connect the Ethernet cable between the LAN of your Action Tec port WAN or the Linksys router's Internet port. In this way, you don't have to disable DHCP in the WRT54GS and to access its configuration page via 192.168.1.1 anytime.

Furthermore, what is the IP address of your router, ActionTec? If it is on 192.168.1.1, too, you may need to change the local IP address of the router Linksys 192.168.2.1. Once done, access the configuration of the WRT54GS page and customize the wireless network and the wireless password.

Also, before all configurations, it's better reset the unit to default settings. It is done by pressing the reset button at the back of the routerfor 30 seconds while the power is on. Release the button and unplug the unit.

    Hope the above helps.

Configure the Linksys with a subnet of the modem IP... 192.168.0.10 or anything that is free... Connect the modem on the LAN of Linksys port, rather than the internet port and disable DHCP server on the linksys. You will need to renew the ip address of the clients that are connected to the linksys, but then they will get dhcp from the modem and everything will be on the same network.

  • Question to Linksys WRT54G password

I have a router wireless of linksys WRT54G hard wired to a mac and I use the router to get your laptop online. Everything works beautifully. Now I have an iphone that I want to be able to use the same network on. When I turn on my iphone it finds the router which of course requires a password. I'm going in what I think is the password and it is denied. I am able to connect to the Web page of the router and access all my settings. On the administration tab, there is a place to change the password. I changed this and entered a new password, but the only thing that changes is the password that is used to get access to the web page of Linksys. (the web page that I can enter to change and access settings) am I wrong to think this would be the same password to my iphone application?

Sorry for the long explanation, just try to give detailed information.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's the wrong password.  Look under your security settings wireless / wireless and you will find the password requested.  This will be a key/paraphrase or password depending on the encryption you put in place.

  • Help Linksys WRT54GS

For internet acess to my XBOX in the basement, I have a router that is put in place by my computer here. It works very well for a while now, but all of a sudden it doesn't work.

I have a WRT54GS Linksys with SpeedBooster. On the left of the screen, there is only the rectangle box that you can press on, it says "Cisco Systems" above it. Instead of being gold or whatever the color used to be, it's now a silvery color.

As far as I know it is, I'm pretty sure that is supposed to be gold. I also reset it, pulled the plug and wait 10 seconds sat there and looked online for ten hours trying to find an answer.

    Help, please.

This little button is for HER (safe easy installation), once pressed it will automatically change the security settings on the router to WPA security. To turn it off or change your security you need to connect to the router, then make the changes.

    1. log on to internet browser 192.168.1.1

    2. let the emptiness of username and password - admin (default).

    3. click on the tab Wireless and you will find the option to reset security.

    4. then click the sub-tab "wireless security" and make the security changes, as necessary.
