Time Capsule needs frequent rebooting

I have a Time Capsule (probably 4 years) running Version 6.3.5 (635,2) and in the last months, the wifi signal stops a few times a day.

If I do a restart it fires and works very well, until the next time he needs a reboot.

Thoughts?

First thought would be that the expected lifetime of the time Capsule is about 3 years old, and that a steady loss of WiFi connection, requiring a reboot is a common sign of a an internal power supply, which has already started to head South.

If you could provide the model number of your Time Capsule... it starts with an 'A' followed by four digits... we could have some more bits of information to tell you about the possibility or feasibility of repair.

  • Can I use the Time Capsule wireless for multiple computers without using it as a router?

I am looking for an external backup for 2 computers drive.  I have a desktop iMac and MacBook Air.  I like the idea of being able to back up my MacBook Air wireless, but I need to make sure that it will work the way I need to.

I already have a wireless router that works well for me, I don't need the time Capsule to act as a router. I'm just needing a wireless backup drive.  So, the question is, can I use the only time Capsule as a storage device for backup of wifi or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?  My fear is that the router service is not as good as the router, I currently have.  I live in a big House of 2 floors, making it very difficult to receive a strong signal throughout the House.

can I use time Capsule only as a backup wireless storage device or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?

Time Capsule need to connect to your router/modem existing using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

If you plan to use the time Capsule to back up your Mac with the help of the application Time Machine on every Mac, the Mac will have to save on the wireless signal Time Capsule for the process to be officially supported by Apple.

While it is possible to turn off wireless on the Time Capsule and try to save it to your existing wireless network... and it pourrait work... but there will be no Apple support backup problems... so it would be a good idea to plan to use Time Capsule wireless backup purposes.

  • Use WAN connected airport Time Capsule as a wireless access point

I had to replace a failed 4 Gen Time Capsule. I tried to install a new Gen 5 airport TimeCapsule via WAN and set up the airport to act as a wireless access point. It is installed in an area of my house with wireless coverage. In the network of AirPort Utility Mode section, I chose "extend a wireless network. The TC is restarted, I get an error message cannot find the intended wireless network.

    What I lack?

"Extend a wireless network" is a parameter that is only used if the time Capsule need to connect to another router from Apple with the help of a Wi-Fi connection.

You use Ethernet to connect, you must use the parameter to "create a wireless network. Use the same wireless network name and the same password as your "primary" router

  • need help to set up time capsule as a backup only

I used Time Capsule as a router wifi and backup for several years.  The wifi didn't give me the whole House coverage so I bought the mesh network eero newly released product. I still want to use my Time Capsule for backup and, as he already has about two years of backup on this subject, I don't want to lose these backups. I created a new network for eero routers but gave the network of the same name and password as the old TC network so that all my devices would automatically connect to the new network.  That has worked well.  Is it possible to connect the time Capsule to the my wireless network so that my MacBook and MBP my wife will continue to save on the network they were?  The eero router has two Ethernet ports on the back and the two are to be used (one for the modem, the other for Sonos) so I do not have an available port to use.  Can I buy a switch if I have to, but if there is a wireless solution I would rather.

I also have a desktop Mac that has saved on the TC and it's my main computer.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Is it possible to connect the time Capsule to the my wireless network so that my MacBook and MBP my wife will continue to save on the network they were?

No, you cannot join the TC now network a wireless router not apple. Apple has removed this feature because he was too... too slow, unreliable and missing too many apples.

The eero router has two Ethernet ports on the back and the two are to be used (one for the modem, the other for Sonos) so I do not have an available port to use.  Can I buy a switch if I have to, but if there is a wireless solution I would rather.

You can run the TC between eero router and the sonos.

Connect the wan port on TC eero and Sonos to the TC lan port. Configure the TC in Bridge mode. Disable the wireless sound. (Or you can leave the wireless on but use a different name for your eero wireless now).

The TC will work like a switch... this side of it will work fine.

How well the works of TC depends on the OS everything works... You can find it is actually necessary to paginate on the TC to make backups of the laptops wireless. Apple has made changes to the DNS system that broke network so that it can be impossible for computers discover the TC after a few hours after a reboot.

Give it a try... If this does not work then you need to be more creative.

The TC can connect through ethernet in the desktop computer. But for this, it must be configured with a different range of IP addresses for the rest of the network. Again, you can use wireless on... but the laptop will have to make backups by a different method. It gets complicated very quickly.

Tell me what IP range using the eero router?

I can make a few suggestions more as soon as we clear.

  • Time Capsule backup not available without reboot disk

I have the latest generation of time capsule, but my MBP cannot find the disc inside after restarting the device.  After a restart of the time Capsule the requested backup will take place without any problems, but if I ask another backup later, I again get an alert saying that the disk is not found, requiring another restart. This "solves" the problem, as the MBP can now find the disk and the backup takes place, but the whole point of Time Machine is supposed to be to provide Automatic backgroundbackups.  Any ideas?

  • Need help to set up Time Capsule with surfboard SBG6580... wifi or extender?

I just got my Time Capsule and trying to figure out if I should use as my wifi router, or keep my SBG6580 active and e TC allows to extend my warranty.

    Any recommendations?

In addition, how? Online instructions do not seem to be very clear.

    Thank you!

I will always recommend to use your Time Capsule as a router, it will be much easier to access and manipulate, unless really, you need to report more coverage.

  • Need help to set up Time Capsule to extend the current U - pay Wi - Fi.

I am trying to extend my current Wi - Fi signal from AT + T U-Verse. I have a time capsule 1 TB and a Macbook Pro w/Retina Display. When I go in the most convenient airport Configuration it allows me to select "Extend a current network" but who is she won't let me go. The only option that it allows me to move forward with is to create a new network. I do not have the ability to plug directly into the router as I rent and do not have access to the actual router, just the Signal Wi - Fi. Please help with suggestions. I tried a factory with the time Capsule hard reset and still nothing. Thank you.

Sorry, but the time Capsule and other Apple routers will expand only wireless network that is provided by another router from Apple.

Another way of saying the same thing, it's that if you want to extend wireless network using an Apple product, you will need two of them... a close Uverse router/modem connected using Ethernet and set up to "create a wireless network"... and another airport located remotely to "extend a wireless network.

Since you say that you can not access the Uverse router, that will make things very difficult.

The only thing that peut work would be to add an AirPort Express and configure it to 'join' the Uverse wireless network. When she did this, it can then provide an Ethernet signal to the time Capsule, which in turn can be configured to provide your own private network.  In other words, the AirPort Express would act as a wire-to - Ethernet without 'bridge' to ensure the Ethernet connection that requires time Capsule.

If you decide to try this, it would be a good idea to understand the return policy of the store on the AirPort Express before you buy. With unusual game like this, the only way you will know if it will work in your home is to try in your home.

  • need help to set up Time Capsule with hub of sky

Hi, I bought time Capsule and followed the instructions re. Connection cable internet hub in wide band directly on port WAN on TC. And yet nothing is happening outside orange flashing and message of airport utility saying it could not connect to the internet. I bought an Ethernet cable, just in case and tried to connect it to LAN to LAN, and I was able to create a 'network' but always seeing flashed. Can anyone help? Thank you!!

El Capo can be really rotten networking.

The skyhub is a router... I think it's okay... If you connect a computer directly into it, you should have internet?

The TC may work very well in this configuration.

Ethernet connector of skyhub LAN WAN TC as you did originally... correctly.

So I highly recommend ethernet to the computer... because it helps no end. And even to pass the airport utility to use ethernet instead of wireless.

Here (if obvious really that you would have ethernet under other Wi - Fi... don't know why I found totally by chance?)

The configuration... make the TC must go to bridge mode...

It is Off (bridge mode) on the network tab.

And you need to create a wireless network with a different name to the skyhub.

You can probably do it manually now without too many problems.

And even without ethernet connection... Although reliable then ethernet is streets ahead wireless.

Click on the TC icon in airport utility.

Click on change... at the bottom right on the summary.

Now you can fix it up. Click on the network and make sure that it says Off (bridge mode) I posted my configuration, but you do not follow that... I just allows you to see where everything is.

Click on wireless and fix that up.

You can even click on the base station and correct the name and the master password... so that all the names are short, without spaces and alphanumeric pure.

NOT RECOMMENDED APPLE NAMES that are FALSE.

If you have an ipad/iphone the iOS version of the utility is often better to get this right than the Mac version... particularly in the later version of the Mac OS.

  • Need help with the implementation of a replacement airport Time Capsule

Hi... Recognizing the help. My 1 TB airport Time Capsule (ATC) crashed and I bought a new 2 TB ATC to replace. In my preference system, Time Machine reflects that my ATC 1 TB is still active. How to pay safely my 2 new cases of tuberculosis ATC to replace the 1 TB ATC?

Assuming that you 1. already connected the new TC on your network, and/or 2. you were able to save all data on TC 1 TB, or simply do not take care of him You can just open Time Machine preferences, turn the Time Machine off, and then select the disk in the new time Capsule. A brand-new first backup starts to run, and it will certainly take time.

Another option is to connect the new TC on ethernet directly on your Mac and then select the Time Machine preferences, this will speed up the first backup.

In case you were able to archive the old backup and transfer it to your new TC, you will continue your backup schedule by simply selecting the new TC in Time Machine preferences.

    I hope this helps.

  • Apple TV / Hue lights have no internet connection (but the phones and computers do) - only disconnect Time Capsule fixed guess?

    Hello

My Apple TV will sporadically lose access to my iTunes library (despite showing the connection and a signal strong) and Netflix will not play.  My tint lights are not recognized when this happens.  When I restart the AppleTV, then it shows that they are not connected to the internet.  However, my computer and the phone still have functioning wifi in these proceedings.

The only thing that seems to restore connectivity is when I unplug my Time Capsule (version 7.7.7) and then plug it back in.  Can anyone offer solutions and the potential causes?

Thanks in advance for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated.

You never reset the TC at the plant after the update of the firmware?

If this isn't the case, please do so now. Redo the installation in accordance with the following instructions.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

    The installer the TC.

And then redo the configuration of the computer with Yosemite.

    1. the use of very short names... NO APPLE RECOMMENDED names. Without the space and pure alphanumeric characters.

for example TCgen5 for the base station and the name of the TCwifi wireless. (try to keep names < 10 characters)

If the problem is using wireless TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels like this helps.

    2. use all passwords also consistent with 1. but maybe a little longer. IE 8 and 20 characters of mixed cases and numbers... no alphanumeric non-caracteres.

    3. If the TC is router, you can ignore this point. It is only a problem when the TC is bridged.

If ensure that the TC is always the same IP address... you will need to do this on the main router using a dhcp reservation... or a bit more complex setup by using the static IP address in the TC. But it's important... the IPs derived in all directions when Yosemite do not remember his name for 5 min after a reboot done for poor network management.

I highly recommend this method on bridge of situation where you have the ISP router.

  • Time capsule with backup HD on a MBP with SSD?

    Hello world

I recently bought a Time Capsule from Apple and saved my full 500 GB hard drive which is on my Macbook Pro 13 "(modèle fin 2011)." I was wondering what I need and what will happen if I buy a Macbook Pro the retina which will have an SSD (probably more small size), but also a different logic board?

-Is the capsule will be recognized by the new Macbook Pro retina and I will be able to continue to save on it, to add?

-I will be able to access the files that I backed up the MBP Late 2011 by accessing the retina MBP with time Capsule?

There's something else I should be aware of the based on the experience of each?

Thanks a lot for your help and your advice!

On the first startup of the new machine, the installation wizard will ask you if you want to move your user name for the new Machine. Highly recommended for a transition seamles.

From then after that after a reboot or two and the first time that you start the TM/TC upward it will ask you if you want to "inherit" the TM. Yes

  • The update of the firmware bricked just my time capsule.

Now, I'm stuck in a dystopian nightmare of the 1980s with all the promises of technology and yet none of its features.

Help!  (I write from my phone. A device that I've recovered from the future)

I rebooted all the usual culprits (router, computers, time capsule) and did a hard reset on the time capsule itself, but still can not find airport utility "" my TC.

If you Hard Reset the TC, it is normal that AirPort Utility cannot find the TC... given that AirPort utility displays only devices of the airport that have already been configured.  The TC is not configured, so it's a Station of Base AirPort "nine" with the default settings.

Start over and set up the TC to help "Assistant" Installation of Apple on your Mac or your iPhone / iPad.  After the back if you need some advice on this.

  • Time Capsule no longer works in conjunction with the ISP modem

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and my apologies if similar topics have already answered - rushed for this post, so I did not have too much time to browse the forums - please point me in the right direction if other threads exist!

I'm in the United Kingdom and Virgin like my ISP... I had my Time Capsule for almost a year now and if it had connected to the Virgin Super Hub (dial-up Modem mode), without any problems. A few weeks back, I started to notice the drops intermittent in the Internet, until it finally went down all together without apparent reason. Now I can no longer use the Network Time Capsule using a Macbook, laptop computer Windows, Smartphone, Tablet, or Console games (I can always connect to the network, but there is 'no internet'). After talking at length with Virgin they basically blame the Time Capsule and say they cannot help me because it is not their technology. Since cutting the Capsule and turning back on the Super hub wireless, everything works again. I tried the simple things like rebooting, check connections etc., but to no avail.

I have a lot of backups on the time Capsule (I use it for work purposes), so I'm afraid to play with things too in case they are deleted, but now desperately need to get operational new... Should I look for to reset the Capsule of time and/or remove/reset the wireless network I created when the first set up (if everything resets is possible without deleting the stored files)? Any help or advice would be much appreciated... Sorry for the long post!

    Thank you guys so much!

The first part is to ease your mind... the TC is perfectly ok with reset... nothing can be deleted by using the reset button or reset everything in airport utility... the only way to erase the hard drive is to clear its contents through the disk tab in the airport utility.

We noticed a lot of problems with the WAN port on the TC... And a bunch of modems... This can happen a day or day 366... but once it starts, it doesn't go away.

Connect the TC in the Virgin hub working in router mode full... you're going to fill the TC.

    1 factory reset the TC.

    2. make a new configuration of your Mac or iOS devices.

With the wan of the TC plugged into the hub of Virgin by ethernet it should choose default wire bridge... If this isn't the case, manually change the configuration.

    3. once it is bridged leave the connection of the Virgin hub since the LAN of the TC port WAN... and see how it goes...

If it works ok for the backup then continue to use it... If it's still questions... Please post screenshots... or consider to resume to apple... in the United Kingdom, you should have a legal guarantee of a couple of years... much longer warranty Apple offer directly.
