Trouble reading DVD Vista

My laptop has trouble playing DVDs. Instead of loading them, the reader reads sporadically slows down my right from the computer and then hangs until I have to eject it. I am running Vista Home Premium. Any advice?

EDIT:

  • The system is the same facility from the provider when I bought it, I didn't do any changes which it other than automatic updates of Windows. Also I have not installed any new software or drivers that may have caused it.
  • It happens with all DVDs with movies, I don't remember having the problem with the games, DVD etc. I sometimes (after dozens of attempts) are able to get a dvd to work, but that stopped happening altogether now.
  • There is no error message, the PC slows down just to a standstill until I eject it.
  • I tried to play with WMP and WMC, but no charge.
  • I have not tried other software, but I can't right-click on my DVD drive when the disc is

The fixit program fails to sort much (just reset my music library). I tried to close all the 3rd party apps, none of them seem to affect it.

Hello

·        You did changes to the computer before the show?

·        It happens with every DVD or any particular DVD?

·        You receive an error message or code?

·        Which application do you use to play a DVD?

·        Do you have any non-Microsoft player installed on the computer?

Method 1: I would say you run the fixit from the link and if it helps:

http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems

Reference: The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot, and then try to play the DVD and check it out which third party application is causing the problem:

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to configure the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Hey,.

Like many people, I didn't like Vista and so returned to the use of Windows XP.

In doing so, I lost a lot of things like the ability to watch DVDs and sound, most of these problems fixed so easily by downloading the drivers from this site.

However, even after the DVD driver download I can't read DVDs yet.
When you try to play through Windows media player I get say error message that I did not have a MPEG-2 decoder, in the section web site help, it suggests where to get one, but you have to play for each other.
After having one in the first place, I don't think I should buy a new one.

If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appretiated if they could let me know.

    Thank you

    PS I have a Satellite L30-101

I think you have a codec problem, but I'm not sure. Maybe you should install the latest version of Media Player and codec Xvid, DivX and AC3. These are free (google it!). Or you can try alternative software, such as WinDVD or PowerDVD, you can try the demo versions.

I already checked the registry entry {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. There's no UpperFilter or UpperFilter attributes.

    Any idea?

    Hello

I m really surprised because such error problem should be resolved after the installation of the new operating system.
More as you already suggested the filter upstream and downstream in the registry key are mainly responsible for these strange drive problems.

In any case, I recommend to remove the drive from Device Manager and reboot the laptop. After restarting again the operating system should recognize the CD/DVD drive again. You should see a message as new device has been installed or something like that

In addition, it would be desirable to use a system like CCleaner repair program. It s freeware!

Finally, you should check the registry again if the upper and lower filter exists and delete it.
Don t forget to reboot the device.

    Good luck

  • Home Edition Vista won't read DVD

my system will not read DVDs, why? I am not computer savy and I can't understand this at all. Help, please?

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

Can you clarify your question - if the DVD is not read by your PC (not detect the DVD) or just the video does not play?

If the DVD-video is not played, you need to install a codec appropriate to play DVDs, no codec is available in your system to read the DVD. You can use PowerDVD, WinDVD, or any other software that you like. Once you install them, will also be installed the codec and so you can watch DVDs using Windows Media Player or Media Center.

If this is not the case of many to answer.

  • Re: My driver TEAC DV-w28ECT used to read DVD and CD now it reads only DVDs

My TEAC DV-w28ECT driver used to read DVDs and CDs, now, he reads only DVDs. What's happened and how can I solve this problem? I have Windows Vista

Try to remove the CD/DVD filters in the registry.
When the associated CD/DVD (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), the software is installed, they install filters in the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

    (1) run Regedit (start-> Run-> Regedit)
    2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    (3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
    (4) restart.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:

The foregoing may not be a credible source, but I had the feeling that this was the case, so I googled TSSTcorp CDRWDVD TS - H493B SCSI cdROM DVICE... and came up with it.

I will try to check this further, but I think I need to buy a DVD player that burns.

    ==========================================
    You are exactly right...

The drive you have will read and write to the CD and will only read DVD.

    See the following links:

    Introduction: TSST TS-H493B CDRW/DVD-ROM drive user's Guide

Specifications: The User Guide for the reader of CD-RW/DVD-ROM TSST TS-H493B

If he would have to burn a DVD it looks like DVD - RW. instead of DVD - ROM

  • Satellite Pro A40: CD-RW/DVD drive cannot read DVD

    Hello

The reader combo CD-RW/DVD on my Satellite Pro A40 (14 months) stopped reading DVDs (DVD - R or the video, have not tried other types), although it can play DVDs some time. I've cleaned the disc by using a cleaning disc. I think the problem started when I upgraded the OS to WinXP SP1 to SP2, but not sure. I tried CD - R and CD - RW writing and no errors were reported, but the CD that result are unusable (can't be read in the drive, with the LED blinks a few times and then to infinity).

Someone has an idea how solve this ptoblem? Thank you

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

I suggest that you go the Device Manager on your laptop and then remove your devive DVD-ROM in the list. When you have done this and then select the option "Find new hardware" and allow Windows XP Reinstall the device and associate the appropriate driver.

    Hello

AFAIK this unit has a DVD Super Multi drive and it must use media suite:
    CD-ROM (Read) CD - R(read/write) CD - RW(read/write) DVD-ROM (read)
    DVD-R(Read/Write) DVD - RW(read/write) DVD + DVD + R(read/write) RW(read/write) DVD - RAM(read/write)

In addition, these speeds are available:
    Maximum speed CD-ROM(24x:read) CD-R(24x:write) CD-RW(10x:write) DVD-ROM(8x:read)
    DVD-R(8x:Write) DVD - RW(4x:write) DVD + DVD + R(8x:write) RW(4x:write) DVD - RAM(3x:write)

Maybe this drive can t use the double layer? I think he uses a normal DVD

    Hello

I suggest, that it can not ONLY play .avi files. Am I wrong?
In this case, you need additional codecs.
This has nothing to do with the DVD drivers or firmware.
Check the internet for the codec. I'm sure you will find a lot of info if you want to google a bit.
