Unable to access directories after installing SP2

I just downloaded and installed the Vista SP2.  Amongs other things, she changed completely the power settings for my laptop, but it's fixable.  What has blocked me is the fact that in Windows Explorer (or any name you people have changed, but I hope you know what I mean), I am is no longer allowed access to directories (or folders, or whatever you call them now) I have BEFORE in installed SP2.  I did all attempts to change the permissions, but the system won't let me (as an administrator) to do this. Explorer Windows sees the direcftory, but the monologue box tells me that the directory "... is not accessible." and "access denied."  This happened with the Windows required file 'my documents '.  When I try to change the permissions 'sharing' by "Everyone" I get the less-than-useful message that «...» An error occurred when trying to share Application data (it is an example). Access is denied.  The shared resource was not created at this time. »

How can I go to get access to them now?  And something that you should ask yourself - why do you have designed an "improvement" that does this?

Hi Evan,

I see you found the access denied error when you try to access the documents"" folder. I will suggest you to do a system restore to the date when Sp2 has been installed, and if in case you want to install Sp2 then you can try downloading the Sp2 standalone package and install in safe mode with disabled security software.

Here is the link for the standalone pack:

http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=a4dd31d5-F907-4406-9012-a5c3199ea2b3&displaylang=en

Please try this step and I would like to know the result.

Kind regards

    I updated vista 64 Service Pack 2 to allow the installation of ie9.  After installing sp2, my taskbar has been changed and the vista theme completely disappeared.  Areas of the screen are now much brighter, lighter or white (taskbar now is almost white and has the old style box 'Start').  I went in the 'appearance' of the control panel section and searched the vista theme - it's gone.  Installation of task bar that I had before the sp2 update is missing.  How can I get that back?  I tried to remove and reinstall sp2 and restore to earlier date and put it back - no matter what I do the screwed up theme with no option to get the old back.  Everything else works fine.  How to bring back the task of vista bar/color theme?  Is there a file I can load up?  I'm tired of wasting time of uninstallation/reinstallation.  We don't like also how change is so brilliant screen - and we do not find a way to change that either - there is no manual ocntrols and not to tarnish the brightness - no indication 'aid' does not provide - it says adjust buttons that do not exist.  How to bring back the vista theme?

  • Portege R100: The screen goes black after installing SP2

    Hello
    Currently, I tried to install SP2 for my laptop (Windows XP pro) R100. The end of the installation procedure I restarted the system, as requested. The windows logo appeared, then the screen went black and the only thing I could see was the mouse cursor.

    After several reboots, the situation did not do better. I tried to go on safe mode, but I had the same (only this time the black backround was typical registration of safe mode on the sides). I will perform a system restore without having to install SP2, but the fact that I am on a DSL connection most of the time very important SP2 installation.

    I would appreciate any solution to this problem.

    Hello

    As far as I know sometimes a few utilities and drivers must be updated after installation of the service pack 2 Microsoft.
    On the Toshiba driver page I found a backgrounder update of Microsoft Windows XP SP2 that contains a few s information about the utilities that must be updated.

    However, additional I found a lot of new drivers for R100.
    I think you should also try to update the old drivers as driver utility and the graphics card chipset.
    Eventually, it helps.

    I had this problem after istalling SP2 on my Toshiba M30. I istalled SP2 a few times before and uninstalled it is for this reason. The starting time is now about 2.5 min istead of 30 sec prior to installation. I have installed SP2 on a clean computer (removed spyware, cleaned the registry, defragment and so forth), followed by steps. But still the same. I have the loading machine about 1 min before it comes to wallpaper, before SP2, just after the sound of welcome he went at bottom of screen, icons and the bar and I was done. Now, his home, then 30-40 sec, then background screen and nothing for 1-1.2 minutes and then I get icons, bar and machine becomes operational. No one of my demons have this problem. Remember that SP2 installs additional firewall and security settings. It s all this entails loads initially. It takes several times.

    You can check the background processes and apps which start to run.
    It can be check in the msconfig. Type the command msconfig in the run window and check the Startup tab.

    The starting procedure takes a little more time on my laptop because the antivirus application that loads initially.

  • Satellite L350-24U: Windows Vista crashes after installing SP2

    Hello

    I own a Satellite L350-24U laptop with Windows Vista 32. I bought in October and had to reinstal the OS twice now. Still, it crashes after installation of Service Pack 2. After you restart the system, a blue screen appears, giving the following information

    STOP: 0 X 00000024 (0 X 00190444, 0X86B9BAD0, 0XC0000102, 0X00000000)

    I had to reinstall Win Vista with HDD Recovery from Toshiba (press F8, then repair etc.) and everything worked properly again.
    THS time, it's more serious. Last night the system shut down whenever you use internet explore (after about 30 seconds). SP2 has not been installed, but there are so many problems, I decided to install SP2, because I hoped that the bugs I had with SP2 would be eliminated. When installing SP2, the system crashed again, and now I got the same bluescreenmessage new.

    I tried to reinstall Vista, but the Toshiba HDD program starts no more: it is said: the installed program is not working (or something similar) - please click on ok to close.

    I did not burn the cd of recovery yet, so I don't know what more can be done and online support is closed today.
    I'd really be very happy for any help
    Thank you

    Hello

    I searched a bit on the Microsoft Web site and on the blue screen, I created this article:
    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-GB/library/ms793935.aspx

    So I think that the reason for the BSOD is a corrupted file system or a defective HARD drive. You should check the drive using the Drive Fitness Test for example.

    I put t understand why you didn't burn the disc of recovery yet. Why you didn t read the manual at first?
    Now, you have only one option to get a new recovery disk: Please order a new Toshiba directly: https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I tried the Startup Repair running, System Restore and tried to start my computer in safe mode. Nothing works please help!

    Thank you

    You don't say how you were trying to enter the SM.

    Try the following helper methods:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    See you soon.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
    As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
    It's a very good Vista repair disc.
    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
    There is not a disk of resettlement.
    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
    See you soon.
  • Windows Vista will not install new updates after installing SP2
    Hi, I have a problem with the update of my windows. It started after a fact a factory reset. Here's the history:
    I have a some what old laptop (8 years). It came with a Vista installed with service pack 1 installed at the factory. Over the years, I did a few factory resets (every 2-3 years). I never had problems up to now. What is happening now is that I can not exceed SP2. I tried two different ways, none of them worked. After the reset, I first uninstall a bunch of stupid programs that came with the laptop, and then defragment and then have two ways to proceed. I tried to use windows update, installed more than 100 updates, updates install held until finally I offered service Pack2, installed successfully but then no more updates were offered. Then I tried a different approach - a new reset, uninstall, Defrag, and then downloaded and installed SP2 directly from the Download Center. And again the same thing happens. From the SP2 installation I check updates, download the new update agent and nothing happens after that. He keeps looking for new updates all day (about 50% of the processor by using all the time).
    I read some articles and discussions but could not find anyone with the same problem (most of the users reported some error codes which is something I can't do). I tried the fix tool - it does nothing! Whenever I run it, it is mistakes - sometimes 2, sometimes up to 5. Sometimes, it makes account all fixed, other times that it reports missing or corrupt files do not set. Whatever the results if I restart and when I try to check for updates again it is still the same story.
    Also I tried to install it manually IE9 as soon as SP2 is installed (I understand that this is not supported under SP1) but the installation fails. I expected to be available in updates, but as I don't get updates I tried to install it myself. Not sure if it's related (although I guess it is), but the Defender is not able to verify new definitions either.
    Any suggestions? Maybe the registry is damaged or some of the files using the update agent is are corrupt? There are currently no antivirus program installed that could block whatever it is. I haven't touched Windows Firewall somehow everything must therefore be attributed to the default values.
    You understand is that? I came across exactly the same problem... restoration of an old book to give to a family member, and every time I came to the point of installing SP2 and a more recent windows update agent just after, I couldn't install more updates. It would block 'check updates' forever. Tried twice, same problem. However, I tried some things differently the third time and exceeded the question.
    Let me know if you still need help, and I will respond with what I've done.
  • Default gateway disappears after installing SP2.
    Hi people
    I just installed SP2, and now when I start/restart the computer, the default gateway is missing. When I check the properties of the connection, the IP address is correct, but the default gateway is blank - it does not 0.0.0.0, there is nothing at all.
    My computer (Vista Ultimate x 86) and a XP Pro PC are connected to a router. I have disabled the DHCP on the router and use a static IP address for each computer. The XP machine is rarely used. I also have a configuration of the VPN connection. When I first encountered this problem, I deleted the VPN connection in case the PC tried to use it to connect to the Internet. I later recreated once I realized what the problem was.
    Even if I can reset the bridge, I don't want to have to do this every time that I reboot.
  • 0xc0000034 after installing SP2
    Once I installed Sp2 my pc restarted. CHKDSK ran, and then he stopped on stage 3 with an error! number! name of file.
    I turned off the pc and then he turned his back and got BSOD. Then, I put my vista disk in and started the repair. The pc rebooted, and so he cannot go beyond this black screen saying! 0xc0000034! 444/50091 (GlobalUserInterface.compositeFont)
    What can I do?
    Hello Mobdeiam,
    As in the prior post, we need start menu advanced startup options:
    1. press F8 during startup to enter the Boot Options menu.
    2. choose the Windows repair.
    3. After selecting the location and logging, click the command line option.
    4. type the following command followed by the ENTER key:
    CHKDSK C: /F
    5 let CHKDSK run until the end. It may take some time so be patient and do not restart the computer while it is running.
    6. When CHKDSK is complete, reboot and see if we can get in normal mode and safe.
    Let us know if you have any questions.
    Best regards
    Hola,
    A friend gave me his Toshiba Tecra A2 (489 MB RAM, 1.75 GHz, 40 GB HD, XP Pro SP1), who suffered the usual problems of the system of middle ages - in phase terminale-slow-off operation, the caused by badly clogged registry etc... I made sure that I wouldn't break it, or at least would do no worse, and that it would be better to take it to a store tech for them to watch, £30.
    Then I did the stuff standard, following which worked well.
    * Disc cleanup (from C:\ [Properties])
    * msconfig to remove unnecessary startup programs
    * Full scan disk
    * full defrag
    * hung in line to run liveupdate from Norton AV
    * ran a standard register, basic cleaning program
    * all online ran several passes of windows update, with several restarts without error.
    He then took all afternoon install SP2 and restart, he went through the usual XP style blue splash screens, I expected post-SP installation, i.e. "Please wait...". »
    seemed to crash, reboot, and then displays the blue screen of death and this message:
    -----
    STOP: c000021a {fatal system error}
    The process of the system session manager initialization ended unexpectedly with status 0x000026c. (0x00000000 0 x 0000000).
    The system has been shut down
    Since I tried all other boot options (safe mode, last known good setting, etc.) without success.
    Any ideas on how to recover? I would be grateful. At the very least, I need to retrieve files from the HD before making a recovery facility.
    your
    First: with such errors you should first ask google or microsoft because it s knowledge base not a toshiba associated problem.
    And regarding your problem: you are absolutely not able to enter the system?
    You can recover the files by putting HARD drive into a USB box and copy the contents to another diskk or you use 'UBCD4Win' and copy the files from the HDD to another USB - HDD.
    Otherwise, you'll have some nice for study time because it can be ANYTHING!
