Use VMware as a server of BDD

Hi all

as a novice in the use of VMware I need precision on its use "hijacked" as a server.

Here's the deal:

Therefore, to get a PC with VMware, with a W2k3 Server / Oracle only with a copy of an Oracle Database. The config application server and client will not change, only the TNSNAME. ORA will be affected.
1 - is it possible to use a VM as a server of BDD? If Yes, the virtual machine being "hosted" on a physical machine (connected to the network), can I access without forcemennt do appear my VM on the network?
Here are my main constraints:
The process of "stop the virtual machine will use a script that should stop all the services of an application server and started on another citrix Server user sessions.
2. a kill session can be done? We need a scripted with alert message loop?
I hope I have been clear enough
Thanks for your help

Hello Nissarti,

Welcome to the VMware forums.

From your message, I guess you want to use VMware Workstation, no? You can install a VM server on this type of installation. It's less efficient, less robust, but it works well.

If you want to isolate your virtual machine from the rest of the network, you can fashion en Configurator 'host only '. In this case, you're going to create a completely cut off network of the world on your PC that only this PC and the virtual machines will be able to access. On the other hand, you don't Pourrat not join from your physical network.

Pour administer them your server, simply take the hand on the console of your PC remotely and use the VMware management tools.

In regards to the film script of your machine stop, it is really specific to your installation. Difficult to advise you without knowing your infra.

Good luck.

  • Impossible to use VMWare Server and Virtual PC at the same time?

I have a Win 7 box I use VirtualPC (unfortunately, VPN to the employer only supports the 32-bit Win XP).

If I try to start any virtual machines using VMWare Server, power on and then immediately off.  Tried several different VMs.

However, if I disable VirtualPC, they all work normally.

Then... there at - it a known issue with the help of Virtual PC and VMWare Server at the same time?

BTW, I didn't see this problem when you use Virtual PC and VMWare Player at the same time.

VirtualPC leaves the CPU of the exploitation of VMX root, which is a restricted mode.  VMware Server is problems to switch between legacy mode and long (this switch is prohibited when the CPU is in VMX root operation).  The current versions of the workstation and the player are able to circumvent this restriction.

  • Can I use VMWare server 2 operational execution Server 2003 / 2008 VM?

Can I use VMWare server 2 to run an operational Server 2003 / 2008 and an another SBS 2003 / 2008 VM? This way I want to run a SBS 2008 Server with a separate server for SQL 2005 and CRM 4.0.

Or should I buy then sphere or VMWare Workstation? I would like to work on a computer with XP pro SP2 64-bit, but if this is not possible I could install a 64 bit OS on this server.

Should I'm way real physical internet access of a virtual machine in VMWare server 2?

WinServ 2003 and 2008 running great on VMware Server 2, which is free.  They'll run even faster on ESXi, which is also free, but has no local console (it takes a second machine see the console & vms).

I have an opterons 2xquad @ 2.7 Ghz, 16 GB of RAM and 4 TB of disk space and I can run 4-5 virtual machines without flinch... but my vmware-server works on Ubuntu.  I believe that Linux running on the underlying area will give a MUCH better than Windows.

  • What VMWare used to run W2K Server in Windows Server 2008 x 64?

We have recently replaced a 32-bit Windows Small Business Server with Standard Windows Server2008 x 64 but find that a particular database will not work on a 64 bit OS.

The Publisher of the application said to run it on Windows Server 2000 or 2003 on a virtual machine, and we are just lucky to have a clean and unused copy of Windows Server 2000.

I used MS VirtualPC, but have never used VMware.  Should what version of VMWare I use?  Preferably a free version?

In addition, any info or links to information, which would help the installation process would allow me to save time and greatly appreciated.

    Hello

I don't really expect VMware Server 1 for work on Wk28 x 64... the product is not updated on this operating system.

Windows 2008 is perhaps editable so that it will work... but then why bother using the new operating system if you pass on the new security model. The right way to go indeed uses VMware server 2 because it will also mean that you have a supported configuration.

Where or where did I go wrong turn?  Was it because I was bottle fed as a child, or maybe when I turned my teacher of class 2 with a pistol to water... but I digress.

The documentation that I found on the VMWare Web site does not appear to be any reference to the creation of a host name, the user name or the password during the Setup process.  Of course, I missed something along the line.

VMware server 2 has all of its normal maintenance and the remote in the browser console.

After installation you can access the console via https://127.0.0.1:8333

Instead of localhost (127.0.0.1) address, you can also try the real IP address of the computer or host name.

I expect that there is a menu option to access the management interface in the start menu under Windows 2008, but apparently not. Guess I have to implement on my both Win2008 box afterwards... The account to use to log on is the administrator account on your windows machine.

No guidance to properly install VMWare Server 2 (or same v1), and then creating a new virtual machine would be appreciated.

I suppose you start with something like "Everything first uninstall v1 and start v2 installation process".  Then what?

Then try opening the administration interface of Vmware Server via the browser and if that doesn't work, post here.

  • The execution of a command shell using vmware cli

Is it possible to execute a command using vmware cli? I want to

1 download a script on the server esxi - sharp put

    2. run and it would create results. - ?

3 download results - lively get

As demonstrated above, part 2 is not clear how. My guess is that, because of the security, it will be possible. But I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Let me know if you know a way out using the cli or other alternatives.

To achieve #2 I can think of a few things, most are quite hack-ish, however:

    1. you can use plink.exe or another automateable ssh client to connect to the host and run the script.

    2. use vivid for tΘlΘcharger the/var/spool/cron/crontabs/root crontab file, change it to run the script and download it again

    3. it is a non supported VIB that adds arbitrary execution of shell to esxcli:

  • VMware + Microsoft Windows Server licenses

    Hi guys

I have some doubts about licensing Windows Server using VMware HyperVisor.

We currently have a couple of licenses of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and we are deploying a new server.

It is a server with two nuclei which will run VMware HyperVisor with 5-6, give or take a machine.

How does the licensing work? What I do need one license per virtual machine running?

    Thanks in advance

In my case, I have a server (two CPUS) running VMware ESXi. I want to be like 5-6 machines running at the same time. So, I only need 3 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 model R2. Right?

    That's right!

Regarding power off machines, licenses apply? For example, I have a few VMware Machines powered off tension, but ready to be marketed (maximum of 6 at the same time). Can I do this?

License only affects "instances running", so the answer to your last question is Yes!

    and

-Can I use VMware vSphere Hypervisor™ with vSphere Client software for free?

Yes - it is freely permitted, but he he has limits and lack of features compared to the vSphere Essentials kits. Another thing to note is the absence of vCenter Server to manage multiple ESXi hypervisors with the free version. The backup API are, in my opinion, one of the main obstacles to the use of this.

OK, for the windows 2008, try to install the DNS service (Add Server Manager roles) in there... (you cannot point the others it as DNS if it does not act as DNS)

also in it the IP configuration, set as follows:

    IP 10.1.1.31

    Subnet 255.255.255.0

    Gateway 10.1.1.1

    Primary DNS 10.1.1.31

203.x.x.35 secondary DNS (you can also add the 203.x.x.36)

Do the same for your guests to WIndows 7.

Make sure all are workers and they can ping each other...

If everything is OK, you should have internet on them...

  • Using VMWare Studio 2.6.0 to manage virtual machines on a host ESXi 4.1.0

    Hi all

I'm having a problem connecting to our 4.1.0 ESXi host using VMWare Studio 2.6.0 (and it is quite possible that the problem is that I'm badly understand what VMWare Studio is supposed to provide). What I would do is create/configure/manage the virtual machines on our ESXi server from within Eclipse, similar to what I can do with vSphere client. However, when I open the Explorer of VMware Studio and try to set up the connection, I still get the error message "Connection to xxx.xxx.xxx failed. Difficulty of connection settings and try again or cancel. "I use the default port of 5480 number and the same references that I use in the vSphere client.

So, my questions are: I use the incorrect port number? I am using a configuration that is known not only not for work (ESXi 4.1.0 + VMWare Studio 2.6.0)? Or am I completely misunderstanding what VMWare Studio and is not?

    Please specify!

I think you misunderstand what did the Studio. It's simply a VM construction kit. Once created, the OVF Studio is out of the picture. He does, eventually, put some components in the virtual machine to manage addresses network, proxies, updates, etc. but above all, he was only VMs.

The Eclipse of Studio plugin is simply another user interface in the Studio build system and will work only if it points to a Studio running. It will not serve the goal of the vSphere client.

  • Connect two VMs via the connection to the local network using VMWare Player

So this topic can be posted already, but I'm at the end of the roll, trying to find a solution. I have VMWare player installed 3.1.4 on an enterprise_x64 of Windows 7 system. I configured two virtual machines: OS1 comments: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.5_x64 and OS2 comments: WIndows 7 Ultimate_x64. I need the Linux server to act as a database server in the system environment, that I am creating. The Windows 7 VM will be the client PC. The Linux server is configured to be it's own DHCP server, so ideally the client PC connects to the field of tht and also follow the Linux server IP address.

I tried all the options of networkign for each virtual computer, but no sem to create this type of connectivity. How to configure the network settings in VMWare Player to make two virtual computers can communicate with each other via a virtual network? (Communication with the host pc is not necessary)

The short answer is to manually install the lack vmnetcfg.exe, Editor of virtual networkand configure VMnet2 without DHCP and host vNIC and then configure manually each virtual machine network adapter to use Custom VMnet2.

The longer answer has already been given so many times that you should be able to find detailed directions, however...

To install the lack vmnetcfg.exe, virtual network editor, run VMware-player-* .exe-e c:\vmptmp go to a command line and then in the c:\vmptmp folder, locate the file c:\vmptmp\network.cab and extract (double-click on the .cab file) vmnetcfg.exe (virtual network editor) file in the working directory of VMware Player usually ' C:\Program Files\VMware/VMware Player ' you can create a shortcut to it and place it with the shortcut of VMware Player if you want to access more easily to her.  This utility is not installed by default is however necessary to turn off the automatic bypass on VMnet0 if the system is multihomed and two or more physical host from the NETWORK adapter is active or you want change VMnet1 and VMnet8 subnet addresses or additional VMnets.

The you must manually change the configuration of each virtual machine's .vmx file in Notepad, change an existing parameter and add another.

    Change:

    ethernet0.connectionType = "nat"

    TO:

    ethernet0.connectionType = "custom"

    Add:

    ethernet0.vnet = "VMnet2"

Note: Regardless of connectionType ethernet (n) shows it should be changed to "custom".

Be sure also to Machine virtual are stop, not suspended and VMware Player is closed when you edit the .vmx config files.

Here are some pictures to show.

Here in the VMnet2 virtual network Editor is selected and is how it should be if you what to use your own DHCP server and the host does not have a vNIC.  You can change the IP address as a result of your needs.

Here's the value VM card network NAT settings.

This is what network settings Virtual Machine map will look like after you change the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file to use Custom VMnet2.

BTW if you replace the Machine network card virtual settings through the user interface customized by something else then you will need to manually edit the .vmx config file to retrieve.   With VMware Workstation, you do not need to manually install the virtual network editor and should not manually edit the .vmx config file as the custom list box is still present and shows all VMnets to select from.
