VCenter server: tolerance on failure service console network

Hello world!

I have question about network service on the vCenter Server console. In my server, I have 4 free NIC and I want to lay off the witch NIC network service management console.  Is it a good choice for the team this free with other NIC with Intel Advanced Network Services ( http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-009747.htm )?

My 2 vShpere host is configured as scenario 4 illustrated on this page:

http://kensvirtualreality.WordPress.com/2009/03/09/when-is-it-OK-to-default-on-your-VI/

My idea is to connect the NIC primary service on the Vcenter Server console to the single switch and the other to the other switch and then the 2 NIC teaming

Is the right choice?

Thank you

You should be able to accomplish what you want by using the NIC software from the manufacturer of your NETWORK adapter in combination.

Connect the second NETWORK card on pSwitch 2, using the NETWORK card software create a team. Assign the two network cards (same make and model, I hope) to the team. Give the SC IP network to the NIC BIA - clear move the existing IP of the network card.

If one of the NIC in the server VC port fails and/or a pSwitch fails, your VC server should always be in place.

Everything else seems good.

  • Cannot open/Add essbase server in the Regional service console in SSL mode

    Hello gurus,

I've set up SSL in EMP which ends at the web server level, but it seems that there is a problem with the Essbase server. When I try to add essbase server in the Regional service console in a secure mode it indicates what follows in the Regional service console Message Board

    Error: 1040142: NZERROR: nzos_Handshake failed (29024)

Records verified Essbase, but it has the same error mentioned in it. I don't know where to go from here.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I think I might have the answer, EAS will use the RTC essbase, which has its own portfolio in \EPMSystem11R1\common\EssbaseRTC-64\11.1.2.0\bin\wallet

Now you can update the cwallet.sso in that directory or add a file essbase.cfg in \EPMSystem11R1\common\EssbaseRTC-64\11.1.2.0\bin
wiith the location of the portfolio by using the config parameter

    WalletPath

I also added the certificate for the cacerts in \jdk160_21\jre\lib\security file

Restart the services and give it a go, works for me.

  • Service Console network requirements

    Hello

I searched the internet, forums and documents best practices vSphere but couldn't find which are the characteristics of network for the Service Console speed. My management network will be a complete isolated physical switch. I won't use it vMotione etc so it will only be used for H.A. and basic (pulsation of hypervisors, vCenter server connection) operations.

For this, a network of 100 Mb/s should be fine. But if I want to copy a virtual machine offline data to another store, it will pass through the management network? If Yes, then I should get a 1 GB switch.

    Thank you!

It is advisable to have gigabit ethernet adapter for service console

copy of the data of the esx datastore Management Office and between the data store will be done by the network of mgmt

  • public network for virtual machines, private storage and the service console?

    Hello

So far I had a pretty small facility with 2 servers with 4 physical network adapters each running ESX 3.5, a small box of EqualLogic SAN to shared storage and a few virtual machines on our network of regular reinforcement, routed, not on a private.   The network config was really simple.  I just put everything on real IP addresses on our network of building.

Now I want to move the SAN and the traffic on a private service console network, but I don't know how to do this.

Right now I use 2 NETWORK cards on each server:

vmnic0 is configured on vSwitch0 and has the network of the VM on it that all my use of VMS to talk to the outside world, and it also has the Service Console that uses Virtual Center and I use ssh to it.

vmnic1 is configured on vSwitch1 and a VMKernel Port and also a Service Console Port for iSCSI Software to talk to my SAN.  (never been clear on why both are needed to talk to the SAN, but doctors say they are)

My plan is to set up a vSwitch2 and bind it to vmnic2 and implemented a VMKernel Port and the Service Console Port for software iSCSI on the 10.x.x.x network, set up my new (larger) SAN box on the 10.x.x.x network and simply use Storage vMotion to move virtual machines to the new storage space.  As soon as I did this, I would like to not use the Service Console on vSwitch2 and not a Console Service at all on vSwitch0.  Is it possible to delete the one on vSwitch0 and just use a new vSwitch2 for Virtual Center and ssh access?

So my proposed configuration would be:

vSwitch0: VM network only, used by the VM guests for oriented public access network, no construction of Network Service Console, linked to vmnic0

vSwitch1: superfluous once I do storage vMotion of everything on my old SAN, will eventually remove and pair vmnic 1 with vmnic0, linked to vmnic1

vSwitch2: VMKernel and Service Console on the network 10.x.x.x, used to access the new SAN, used by Virtual Center to access the ESX, used to SSH in to ESX on private network, associated vmnic2

    If it works?

    Thank you.

    Hello

VMkernel ports cannot live on the same subnet. So if you have 3 vmkernel ports say: vMotion, iSCSI and NFS. You really need 3 subnets. 1 for each vmkernel port.

Otherwise how does he know all send properly?

  • VCenter Server 5.1 SSL certificate update - error

    Hi all

We set up a new Windows 2008 R2 server as a vCenter Server 5.1

Now, I try to install the new certificates for all parts of vCenter (server, inventory, web client service,...) with the Windows certification authority.

I'm stuck at the update server certificate SSL vCenter with the 'Certificate SSL Automation Tool'.

This is part 5. in this guide (5. the cmd screen shot):

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2041600 #updatestepsplanner

All credentials are correct, but I still get the same error (vc-update - ssl.log):

So I tried the manual way, as it is mentioned in this guide:

I'm stuck here too, get a 'result of Method Invocation: vpx.fault.SecurityConfigFault ' after ""Invoke method ': "

    1. Go to https://localhost/mob/?moid=vpxd-securitymanager & vmodl = 1 on the server vCenter Server and load the certificates for the configuration using the managed object browser.
    2. Click continue if you are prompted with a warning on this certificate.
    3. Enter a vCenter Server administrator user name and password when prompted.
    4. Click reloadSslCertificate.
    5. Click the calling method. If successful, the window displays this message: result of Invocation of method: Sub.

I tried to fix this, but there is not really a solution for this:

    http://communities.VMware.com/thread/429035

so, I need help with this question

    SOLVED!

    Steps to follow:

    1. stop the vCenter service

    2. search for your ID in LS_ServiceID.prop in the folder C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter

    3. copy this ID (e.g. {C4672589-9258-42B1-90E2-1EF268BBD402}: 5 )

    4. change your vpxd.cfg in the same folder and replace

    vCenterService

    with

    your ID

    5. start vCenter Service

Then, the SSL automation tool works!

    You need to undo changes.

  • Change the id vlan of the Service Console and now can't connect

    Hello

My ESX 3.5 server was with a Service Console PG and a PG VMotion on vSwitch0. There are 2 physical NIC assigned to the vSwitch, which are transmitted to the 2 physical network switches.

Guys id assigned netoeking vlan 200 to 2 ports on the 2 natachasery physical switches is connected. In the VI client, if I change the properties of vSwitch0-> Console of Service and the value of the vlan 200, I completely lose connectivity to the host. I can't ping the IP address SC longer. I have a keyboard/screen connected to the host and when I connect to the SC, I can't ping the default gateway of the SC or whatever it is.

I used esxcfg-vswitch to set of the SC vlan id 0 (all) and bingo!, I can speak to the host again and he can talk. The network guys arrure me, they put the vlan id = 200 on the OK physical switch ports. So what goes wrong?

FWIW, we also have an ESX4 from same host configured the host to 3.5 and it communicates very well. It's the SC a vlan = 200 and issued for the same physical switches.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening here?  It seems just as strange and undesirable behavior.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

OK, now I'm wondering why you have a vmkernel port named "Service Console" and a vswif port named "Service Console".  In classic ESX and ESXi not, your vmk0 port is not used by the Console of your Service, your port of vswif is, that's why you get arp updates, change the Mac.  You have actually added a duplicate IP address.  Here is my config.  You will see that there is no port vmkernel in use.  If you use this second IP for vmotion, then you need a different IP address for this portgroup.

  • Service Console isolation Clarification

I have read the Security Hardening Guide but I have some questions about the isolation of isolation of service console.

    1. What are the security risks? I found that newspapers are sent clear test that represents a risk, but in a fully routed network once newspapers leave the service console network they may be captured or read on the syslog network, unless an ipsec tunnel is created between the two systems. Another risk I've read is that if the console service is on the same vswitch as an internet workstation or network type VM service console could be exposed to the internet. Other risks?

    2. If the service console is isolated on its own vswitch/network, but the network outside the vm environment has other systems not necessarily vm systems is always considered a risk or the physical environment also must be isolated to only management traffic? In order to clarify if the service console is located on a network 192.168.1.0/24 and this network have physical systems connected to this same 192.168.1.0/24 network is the console service at risk? Again, what are the risks and that no matter the fully active physical network and uses the isolation of port? If a company has a fully routed network isolation really provides increased security? To be compliant with the Safety Guide is the key to keep isolated from the internet access management network/traffic?

For some reason, I'm having trouble getting this concept and the security risks. Thanks in advance for the help in the understanding of console service isolation.

Also remember that if your service console came down, you could lose the ability to manage all the virtual machines that reside on this ESX host.

Someone had trouble installing vCenter Server on a machine running a web server (IIS)?   Documentation indicates the use of a dedicated machine and one not running a web server.   During installation, you get the warrning that detected vCenter web server running, vCenter Server uses common web service for communication ports, so to avoid resource conflicts, use a dedicated machine.  We are talking about only slow or is it possible to interrupt the features of IIS entirely on this machine if I proceed with the installation?  Really the machine in question is not practically no IIS traffic... and we have not really a dedicated machine that is not running IIS at the present time.  Well, I do, but is not in a domain group, the documentation says it should be.   It may work on a workgroup server well?   I would like to install vCenter Server on a system of comments on our ESX 4.0 host, but I'm currently out of storage hardware to create an another VM atm.

  • Set up a VLAN tagging for service without interruption of network service console

I currently have an ESX Server that has vSwitch with a single NETWORK card for the console service with no trunking VLAN.  The vmkernel is a separate vSwitch also with a single network ADAPTER with no trunking VLAN, but in one VLAN separate from the NIC service console I would like to group the virtual physical switches in a single vSwitch, trunking 2 network cards and marking management.  Is there a way to do it without causing a failure of service console; that is, a PuTTY session distance?

Well you can work it so that the spare IP is not used for a long time.

  • vCenter Server Service does not start after P2V

    Hello community.

A problem that I have not been able to solve and looking for help.

    Problem:

vCenter Server Service does not start after that Windows Server was P2V would be.  We get an ERROR 2 of the Service.  Get the error of the system Windows 7024 event log.

    History:

The client, I currently work with that tries to smash to the high location of the DEV VCENTER.  Location of DEV vcenter works now all for this site (domains, dns and all development servers).  If its VCENTER PRODUCTION of this location.  Currently, SQL Server (dedicated to vCenter), VCENTER and SSO are all sitting on the same box.  Let's break the SSO, SQL and VCENTER in their own servers.  However, the client wants to re - use the current physical server for SQL Server.  So I need P2V physical server existing until I can start the new environment.

I was able to get all of the services working on the virtual vCenter (SQL, SSO, Update Manager etc etc) but have been unable to get the real vCenter Server Service works.  Fails every time with the 2 ERROR Code.  I was unable to get a KB of VMWARE item that corresponds to the issue I'm having.  ERROR 2 code has many articles and none have worked.

I pulled the virtual machine in a laboratory and all network problems that would be removed to isolate.  Now the VCENTER is shouting at this topic it can't find one of its guests in the vdxp log, but that shouldn't matter.  All Services have been changed for local accounts.  All network and ODBC parameters are able to see the server... aka the server can see.  I didn't remove any software or drivers for the VM (techniques it is my third P2V to the same server for testing reasons)... And the only thing that won't start is always VCENTER SERVER... SSO is started, SQL is launched...

Also everything remained the same on the virtual machine (DNS, IP, NAME etc etc). Stop the physical and start-up it upward don't show any problems.  Only when its summer P2V would have done that themselves.

I can't get this number.  Need help.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you

In this case, we have finished rebuilding the vCenter and all migrate on.  Wish had better put up-to-date, but ultimately, it's what has been done.

  • vCenter Server Service stuck on departure

    Hi all

I ran a problem yesterday. One of my 5.1 ESXi hosts hung up. I had to start hard. Thus all virtual machines on this subject was turned off which included my 5.1 vCenter server. After I brought everything back online, I can't start the vCenter Server service. It is stuck on the start.

    Here is my configuration:

For vCenter and SSO database: MS SQL (separate VM).

    SSO Server: separate the VM.

    vCenter Server: separate the VM.

It has worked fine for over a year and this is the first time, vCenter server service does not start.

I thought it might be linked to the database. So I restarted all servers: DB, SSO and vCenter in the same sequence, but without success.

When I go to the ODBC connection on vCenter server and try to reconfigure to connect to the DB, it gives the error:

    The connection has failed.

    SQL State: '08001'

    A SQL Server error: 53

Could not open connection to SQL server (53)

    The connection has failed.

I've attached a screenshot of the error.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    AG

I solved this problem. For some reason any. the NETWORK card on the vCenter server was disconnected after the crash. vCenter could not ping the database. Checked the NETWORK card and everything is OK.

  • Windows 7 Setup cannot create vCenter Server Directory Services instance

When you try to install Vcenter server on a computer that is running windows 7 ultimate RC1 x 64 I get the error mentioned in the title.

I read the discussions related to the error (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/211289), but could not find a solution.

I gave all the NETWORK SERVICE permissions to the root of c:\, installed DSACLS to a domain controller, and AD LDS, copied LDIFDE services gave all toNETWORK SERVICE permissions more HKLM in the reg, disabled IPV6.

The Machine is not part of a domain and the installation is for testing purposes.

I would be grateful if someone could help me solve the problem!

Windows 7 is not the same operating system as Windows Server 2008. The two systems are just based on the same core, but it's on how they manage the memory and processes.

Client OS such as Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 are not supported and vCenter cannot be installed on them.
