VCSA vCenter for Windows migration

I am trying to determine the best way to migrate. Currently, I have 2 guests and use distributed vswitches. I built the new VCSA on one of the hosts and want them to fly over. My concern here are the distributed vswitches.

However, I believe that this could be linked to the order of punts services. It might be that vCenter Server tries to start before starting, another service that is needed by vCenter Server?

If the mssql server is installed on the same server, the chances are that the vcenter service attempts to start before mssql has completely initialized. You can read the fix here. http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1007669

You can upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium or ultimate; the choice is yours.

If you go from Vista 32 bit Home Premiun 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate, you can do an inplace upgrade.

The same goes for Vista 64 bit for Windows 7 64-bit

This will keep your programs and data intact.

But ALWAYS make a backup of data when you perform this type of work on your computer.

And before you buy Windows 7 read and check to see if your computer is able to use Windows 7 to its best advantage:

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

  • Migrate from ACS 3.3.2 SE to 4.2.1 for Windows

    Hi all

    Disclaimer

I know that the two platforms/versions are dinosaurs and we should be upgraded to something more recent like ACS 5.x.  However, I am consultant and is not part of the decision to make this migration.  I've just loaded to run.  The customer going to ISE and purchased in one of their regions.  However, this specific pair of ACS servers provide services GANYMEDE + then they will be around for some time.

    Problem

I'm contemplating how to for migration.  There are about 30 local users and more than 2000 devices.  There is integration of ads through a pair of remote agents.  We want to entry a sweet/new configuration as opposed to a full backup and restore so cleaning may occur on the current arrangements of 8-10 years.  So, the best-case scenario is that I have set up new devices (v4.2.1) by hand and import users and network devices.

If I wanted to do, how I'd go to export only the devices and users from the 3.3.2 engine solution?

I thought to reproduce the current 3.3.2 install on a v3.3.2 to install windows then upgrading the windows temp install to 4.2.1 and replication only users and groups to the 4.2.1 new platform but I have access to old media.

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you.

The best would be to install v3.3.2, reproduce the configuration and it 4.2.1.15 in path/procedure to upgrade next since you do not have access to OLD media. You can import users and devices using the RDBMS feature.

To export devices network of ACS 3.3.2 engine solution. Go to network setup > Search > maintains the search that is default parameter to search the entire. Press search. There will be a 'Download' option that will appear in the left corner of the search results. Click on save this list.

    This list will include,

    -Name

    -IP address

    -Type

    -Name NDG (if applicable)

NOTE: This will not contain customer AAA Shared Secret keys have

Once the devices are exported, you can import this file to ACS for windows.

You may not be able to export the ACS SE users. You may need to manually create with the new passwords.

  • Migrate from ESXi hosting vCenter for vdSwitch

    Hello

I'm trying to migrate my two 5.1 ESXi (port management and virtual machine) for distributed virtual switch but one of them host the vCenter 5.1. I import one successfully, but the one with the vcenter may not be imported. Is there a quick way to do without re install the vCenter?

    Thanx.

If the vCenter is on a storage shared between two hosts of ESXi. Stop the VM vCenter. Once turned off.

Connect to the two hosts individually using vSphere client by using the credentials of the root.

Remove the vCenter VM inventory and re-register to the host using dvswitch.

On the VM vCenter back and migrate the other host to dvswitch now.

I'll have no problem creating models in both versions of vCenter Server. The question arises when you try to deploy the model to the Customization Wizard help. Under 4.0, it immediately comes up as not supported (7 64 windows server). Minus 2.5 U4, there is no tag for Windows 2008 R2 OS.

Support for this OS will be released in a next update on both vCenter servers (specifically the Customization Wizard)?

Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 is not supported with vSphere yet but experimental and should be supported subsequently released but they're working on it. You can run the wizard of customization with Windows 2008 however, here's how the instructions http://vinf.net/2009/07/09/how-to-deploy-a-windows-2008-server-from-a-template-with-vsphere/

  • Migration of ACS for Windows 4.1 to ACS SE 4.2?

    Hello

We currently have GANYMEDE + running on ACS 4.1 for Windows.  We want to replace this unit by ACS SE 4.2 (device).  Is it possible to backup/restore the database of the ACS for Windows 4.1 directly to the ACS SE 4.2?  Or requrie level of ACS software version?  Please notify.

    Thank you.

Yes, it's quite valid; This new feature has been integrated in 4.2 ACS. You can not, however, restore 4.1 ACS in the last ACS 4.2.1.

Once you have updated 4.2 ACS, ACS 4.2.1 can restore from ACS 4.2...

  • vCenter Essentials, VM migration

    Hi people,

I plan to have 3 Dell R710s vSphere Essentials running.  Can not afford a SAN unfortunately, so discreet DAS RAID'd volumes SAS that it is.

My question is; It is possible to use vCenter to migrate one turned off power VM directly from one VIRTUAL server to another?  I know that we can certainly migrate a live machine without SAN and/or vMotion, but I am currently concerned only with virtual computers moving between VHOSTs in an attempt to avoid the awkward FastSCP road for major virtual machines offline...  We currently use VMware Server 1.x and 2.x and it is easy to shift machinery directly between hosts using Windows file sharing - of course not an option with vSphere, ESXi /...

Also, I intend to install vCenter on a separate physical box, but I'll also install Symantec BackupExec by some agent is needed, as well as VCB - all on the same box (Win Server 2008 R2 Standard x 64).  Is this sound OK?

    Thank you very much

    Alistair

With vCenter, you can migrate cold, doesn't matter if you have storage shared or not.

The VCB with vCenter together on the same machine seems acceptable. Maybe with the increase of data you backup with time a separate machine may be necessary.

Where can I find the download more updated of the Windows Migration Wizard?

This article includes a link to the download page for the latest version and the download page is here - Migration of Windows Wizard v1.0.5.7

It does not seem to have been updated for a couple of years and doesn't mention Windows 10. While many the most applications that are compatible with Windows 7 and 8 works perfectly under Windows 10 I can say from personal experience, if this also applies to the Windows Migration Wizard.

  • Drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2

    PE1950, 2950 and MD3000i MPIO on Windows Server 2008 R2

We're trying to nail a few dates to migrate our W2K8 R2 platform and plan the project.  We have most of our technical plans in place, and we have the code.  We have no Dell drivers however and there are several suspicious communications from Dell on this topic...

    Case #1: http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/insideit/archive/2009/08/10/ready-for-the-transition-dell-provides-support-for-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx

    Note:

    • Our engineers have missed on countless piano recitals, songs and episodes of American Idol while spending thousands of hours of testing and validation to make sure that dy products Dell running Windows Server 2008 R2 are the business-rea.
    • We have pilot complete support for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Dell hardware so you can deploy, run and manage easily. You can go here to download the drivers.

If you view the service labels in our support of similar product groups, you will find an R2 option for servers... but the only public services on the PowerVault MD3000i you don't find any reference to R2 at all.

    Case #2: http://www.delltechcenter.com/page/Supportted+Dell+PowerEdge+Systems+for+Microsoft+Windows+Server+2008+R2+Beta

This is a list of Beta for PE obviously compatible servers, however it would make sense If Microsoft has included natively the right drivers for the Dell hardware in the distribution of Microsoft R2 RTM so, just can't find any supporting documentation and do not know if the network drivers are compatible with MD3000i.

#3: There are a few hacks to get drivers Windows 2008 MPIO inherited working with the RC R2 & MD3000i on this forum, but no reference to R2 in the MD3000i matrix and nothing on the site... it's why, we have wondering again where are the good drivers for R2 RTM?

Can you be it someone from Dell and or this forum please send information on these issues?

#1: driver compatibility of matrix for Windows Server 2008 R2 running on PE1950 and connected to an MD3000i PE2950 is a supported configuration?  (Code R2 RTM was released to Microsoft volume license customers)

#2: the network drivers for the host machines included in the support of Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM?  If this is true, are the drivers MPIO for MD3000i and iSCSI Dell other platforms included in the support of Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM as well then?

#3: If all the answers are not questions #1 and #2... could someone PLEASE contact people of pilot certification on Dell to see if they are same in QA at this point, if they plan to update and display an estimated date of implementation?  We have contacted tech support, but received very vague answers on anything with R2 at this stage.  There is a business directory and a path to escelation for support tickets, but the midrange as this makes it much easier to share information for the masses, we just have not yet found.

Thanks for your information, comments and your support!

    OptimalState

I was finally sent to someone who could give me some information on this within Dell, here's what they said:

    PE 1950/2950 drivers:

The pilot should be included natively in Windows Server 2008 R2 media, and if so, would these drivers would be supported by Dell in a production scenario.

    MD3000i:

I know that we will not issue a new MDSM which will fund 2008 R2 until sometimes in October. The MD3000i requires MPIO to the MD3000i and Dell drivers driver installation to work properly. I'll see if there is other information that I can find. I understand your frustration and engineer told me that this has been corrected in the next MDSM and MD3000i firmware version in October.

So, it looks like October before MD3000i will be supported.

  • Specifications of the system for Windows 10 technical overview?

    Greetings,

So guys, I thought install Win10 Technical Preview (to get in touch with this new update coming) in my pc, but then I thought since I is not such a great pc, since a player im, win10 will use more my RAM and turn my pc slower?

    Thank you.

Can I upgrade my existing version of Windows to Windows 10?

Given that Microsoft made available the first version of the preliminary version of Windows 10 in early October 2014, there was a misunderstanding that this is not a product you use to replace a facility for production of Windows such as Windows 8 or 7 or Vista. On the other hand, if you test it on one machine, the best recommendation is to create a partition or have a spare ready hard drive where you can install it. Windows 10 in its current state of the pre-release will expire, and at the same time, it's unfinished work. So if you need to evaluate it, the best way is by installing it next to your commercial installation of Windows.

If you choose to upgrade your existing Windows to Windows 10 version, please be warned, it will make your recovery in functional partition, requiring to have separate recovery media to reinstall if necessary.

Where can I get more information about the preparation of my computer safely for Windows 10 tests?

  • Move the CUPS 8.6 to GI & P 11.0 - client for Windows 10.6 Jabber

    Hi community support

We are modernizing our environment voice of 8.6 to 11.0 CUCM, CUPS, CUC and UCCX including passage of MCS including Cisco UCS servers. Regarding CUCM, UCCX, and CUC I just finished these several times in the past and we have a detailed plan. Regarding the CUPS/Jabber, we always try to finalize the design of upgrade and after reading many documents and a few good videos by Jaime Valencia our particular upgrade scenario is still uncertain.

We were using Microsoft OCS and decided to migrate to CUPS/Jabber so we have 3 groups CUCM we created 3 only the CUPS server clusters (Let's put HA when we go to Cisco UCS, but at the time we had only 3 MCS spare servers) and they have peers inter-classes.

    • We use a single domain across all 3 groups.
    • 100% of our users use IM & P through integration of voicemail and calendar and call control
    • 10% of our users have also softphones
    • We do not use SRV yet for service discovery due to having 3 groups on 8.6 so we Jabber for Windows 10.6 bundled with Microsoft SCCM, specifying the Type of account as Cisco IM & presence and login server 'use the following server' that points to the Publisher of CUPS.
    • First time users will have to specify [email protected] / * / how he discovered the area, use only the user name and password to connect, after which its caching and all connections are automatic.

    My questions are:

    • When we improve CUPS 8.6 to IM & P 11.0 ourJabber for the client configuration Windows 10.6 will continue to work without modification?
    • We currently link to the Type of account 'Cisco instant messaging and presence', this allows us to use IM & P and the voice that is to control the calls and softphones, you would select Account Type Cisco Unified Communications Manager in what scenario?
    • We want to use SRV for the Discovery Service, but as we have 3 groups who are upgraded in an approach by steps are better wait we have updated all 3 groups, we can use a single SRV for multi clusters with ILS?
    • When you first connect to Jabber, you must enter [email protected] / * / while he discovered the field then we just enter username and password (less the field), the average of SRV service discovery simply enter the user name and password once without the specified domain?
    • This SRV for the discovery service also provides the AP for connection if the main server is down or is making another way?

    Thank you, Carl Ratcliffe

    Preston, Lancashire England

Yes, the configuration remains the same

As for the second question, read here:

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/voice_ip_comm/Jabber/10_6/planning-...

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/voice_ip_comm/Jabber/10_6/CJAB_BK_C...

As now CUCM is one that handles services profiles, which define everything, you want to use _cisco-uds

#3 Yes, you probably want to wait to get them all in the same release, then make sure THEY works very well, and then configure the SRVs

#4 Yes, the first time, it will ask for [email protected] / * /, once he finds the SRVs it caches the user and you need only the password.

#5 Yes, you can configure the SRVs for all servers in the cluster.

  • The upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

    Hi Gang!

I have a laptop HP625 I want to upgrade.  There on the motherboard processor Dual-Core AMD Athlon II 9340 (2200 Mhz, 2 carrots, 2 logical processors), and I installed 8 GB of Ram.  I used the Windows Upgrade Advisor, and he indicated that he was a good fit.  Something weird or issues that I could keep in mind this clean installation of Windows 7 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit?  I also use Carbonite for my backup.  Reason why I'm doing this is to allow the laptop to be able to work with higher end audio/video editing software.

    Respectfully,.

    Tim

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/07/using-Windows-easy-transfer-in-Windows-7/

You must also create a system image before migrating:

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/24/how-to-backup-your-installation-of-Windows-7/

Boot from the Windows 764 bit DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.
