VMWare at the request of the USB

I install a software virtualization for the first time. I intend to install the hypervisor on my USB HDD in entireity so that I can "wear my software" with me.

I use VMWare ESXi 3.5.0 update 3

I am installing this on Win XP Pro on my laptop with 120 GB and 500 GB drive HARD USB HARD disk.

I have the following queries:

1 when I run the Setup, it only gives me the ability to install on my USB HDD. It only shows my computer portable HARD drive. What can I do about it? If VMWare ESXi does not support USB, is there an another hypervisor that supports USB drives?

2. If I install on my USB HDD, can I just "plug and play" it to another office and use it with VMWare Player (for example).

3. when I run the Setup it says - "VMWare has detected that your.

disc contains data and is partitioned... you will lose configuration

data and VMs.' - & gt; Does this mean that my HARD drive will be formatted or my existing data will be deleted?

In response to your questions:

1 install VMWare Server 2 on my laptop (I have Win XP Pro SP2):Yes that is fine (guide useful http://www.petri.co.il/virtual_install_vmware_server.htm

2. create the VM on the USB HARD drive: Yes, it is also correct, you can save your computer virtual to an external USB device

3< install="" the="" db/os/app="" on="" the="" vm="" (no="" dependency="" on="" the="" laptop)+:="">virtual machine is completely isolated and that you install in the virtual machine has no effect on your laptop.

4 now I can connect the HARD drive to the desktop of my neighbor (Win) and connect to the virtual computer using a suitable VM player (can you tell me the product that I can use as a player? or is reqd VM Server 2 in my friend also deskptop?) you can use VMware player to do this: http://www.vmware.com/download/player/

good luck with the installation

  • Access to the BlackBerry through the USB port on the virtual machine VMWare

I have my development environment configuration in VMWare virtual machine, and I have no problems of deployment of BlackBerry applications on a simulator that runs as another virtual machine. The problem starts when I try deploying to the device via the USB port. The address is assigned when the mode of development on the device is not accessible from the VM, but only from my host, who do me any good, since as I said my IDE is in the virtual machine. A way to solve this problem? I can still deploy to the device via wi - fi (which is btw access via different ip - one given by the network) by this can sometimes be slow depending on the strength of the signal, etc, so I prefer to be able to deploy via the USB port.

    Hello

I'm faced with the same question. I went to settings of your laptop and ran the recovery, but it did not help. I went to Device Manager and I noticed an error: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor has failed. Hi Ewa,

    Thanks for the reply.

I suggest you to update the drivers for the chipset of your computer and check if it helps. You can use the link below. Select the appropriate component and the operating system from the list. The link given below is for Lenovo 11 2 yoga, if you have any other device then please provide us with the exact model number or select the correct model number.

As you mentioned that the other two USB ports work correctly, according to me is not a problem with the driver. It seems to be a hardware problem.

  • Problem with connecting to the usb storage to the EA4500 via ftp from the internet

I have trouble to configure my EA 4500 as an FTP server.

I followed all the instructions according to the manual, but cannot access the USB I connected tot the EA4500 of the internet.

When I try to connect my own network, everything works fine.

The configuration I have at home is as follows:

Cable modem ISP--> EA4500--> all computers.

As said, I use the EA 4500 as an FTP server.

If I install an FTP server on one of the computers on my home network and transfer the correct port on the EA4500 for this PC everything works fine and I have access to the internet. Unfortunately, it won't work when using the USB plugged into the EA4500...

    Any help would be great!

    TIA!

When you go to the EA4500 configuration page, have you enabled the FTP server function?

When I set mine up, I have was go the section when you set up the USB (shares, etc.) and turned on FTP.

In the security of the router Security tab, I uncheck the 'Block anonymous Internet requests.

I do know for sure that you have to uncheck this box, but I always turned off this box, just out of habit when setting up a llinksys router.

In any case, this is what I did and it worked fine.

The only other thing I can think is... Your modem is perhaps a nat router. And you have the EA4500 operating on a different subnet. And your modem may possibly be block it.

What is the brand and model of your modem.

  • Windows detects the USB device slowly.

    Separated from this thread.

I have this problem on a Panasonic F1 - GZ Toughpad. It has a USB 3 port. It has 8 GB of memory, less than half used and it works my a request.

The USB device is a FTDI USB KEY. This is a feature of full speed USB 2 (12 MB/s) according to the data sheet.

When I plug a FTDI USB - KEY, it takes several seconds to detect the USB STICK. Also, it takes several seconds to detect when the USB STICK is disconnected.

However, when I plug in a hub USB, plug the USB STICK in the hub, the detection is less than a second and the detection to be disconnected is less than a second.

I can't use a USB hub as a work-around, because it is a portable application. Perhaps some of you could use a hub as a workaround. ... If someone has an answer to reduce response time, please let me know.

The problem was solved by changing the parameters of the Toughpad BIOS for USB 3.0 to 2.0. Now the Toughpad detects the FTDI USB KEY in<1>

Please note in the previous post, the USB hub is powered and the FTDI USB KEY is not memory flash, it's a serial USB port with a serial number, but only the serial number is available.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones to Blackberry Manager devices to display the USB PINS

My Blackberry Bold 9000 is not recognized by my office blackberry Device Manager.  After hours of playing around to try to solve this problem, here is what information I can provide.

My desktop and laptop running Vista 64-bit.  I had no problem installing the Desktop Manager on my laptop and cable, updated processes, etc. all work fine.  In my view, this allows me to isolate the desktop and not the device or the cable. The Desktop Manager software is to date on both systems.

When I try to get the Blackberry device manager to recognize my camera on my desk, in the table options of connection under connection, that COM1 is displayed, Disable stateful shown.  USB-Blackberry 9000 (Paperback) appears on the laptop.  I've hunted around these tips and google for a solution to this problem, but I have not yet found one.  Under the Windows Device Manager, "Blackberry Smartphone" is listed under USB controllers when the unit is plugged, and the drivers are updated according to the instructions on these cards.

The functions of USB ports for the operation of the keyboard, mouse, and external storage.  I tried to connect to all six USB ports in the back and two on the front of my office, without result.  When the device is connected to my desktop computer, Windows recognises the Smartphone and SD card separately as mass storage devices - with the phone powered on or off mass storage device option.

I have a feeling that this would be resolved if I could get the Blackberry device manager to display a USB instead of COM1 port.  Someone at - it solutions?

Hey this is my solution... it worked perfectly for me, and oddly enough, this is a difficulty for VMWare (also the difficulty to detect USB devices)

Try to right click on one of the USB hubs (in Device Manager) and looking at the details of the driver. If usbfilter.sys is in the list then open your registry editor and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class {36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000} and remove the UpperFilter, pair of usbfilter.

I restarted after making this change, and it works fine now.  Its the first time in the month that I could plug my Curve 8900 using my USB on my PC 64-bit of Windows Vista (now Windows 7).

KUDO to the population of VMWare for this solution.  Thank God, she also fixed for my BB Desktop Manager! WOOT WOOT!

  • BlackBerry smartphones can not synchronize with the USB cable plugged into charge pod

    Hello

I read on the web site of shopblackberry.com, in the details of charge pod ( http://www.shopblackberry.com/_blackberryaccessories/cgi-bin/pd.cgi?frompage=category&page=product_d... ) that the pod can handset with charger travel or data cable for charge and/or sync with a BlackBerry smartphone. So, my question is related on a problem or a misunderstanding of me to this description.

I want to know if we could recharge and synchronize the BlackBerry via USB cable or is only responsible for the BlackBerry when connected that way. My second question is, is it possible to synchronize the BlackBerry with the USB cable plugged into the pod or not?

Because I got a request from one of my users about the fact that his BlackBerry 9000 can not synchronize when it is on his group.

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

It's a loading dock. It is useful, because just drag you your "BOLD" in there and it will load (just like the 8300 Curve).
If you want to synchronize, you can plug a usb on the side of the appliance cord. This can be done while the machine is in its dock, where the description.

I have the same crib, but for the 8300. It's really worth buying. I'm happy with it every day.

  • Animate the CC of the tests on the device via the USB port or the publication of device does not

Without a paid with Apple Developer account (waiting to have in fact my first AIR for iOS app works correctly), I created the .mobileprovision and .p12 files successfully in Xcode. With these I figured out how to debug in the Debug of Animate version iOS Simulator > DebugMovie > iOS Simulator but I can't debug my device (iPhone) via the USB port. ("Impossible to install the application. Make sure that the selected devices are connected. ") Connected and on. No problem with the available memory.

Past the other road, I published with success (he said) but my iPhone will not complete downloading the app in iTunes and even less using the 'post publishing' check in settings to install on my selected iOS device of publication. It is there no dialog, no explanation why... simply "the application was published successfully."

I moved the .ipa file in iTunes and on my device. It says it is syncing but then goes with anything. I once accidentally dragging the icon of my iPad where it has at least tried to install it. The dimmed icon appears on this device with "install...". "below, but it was not built for the iPad, so I trashed it after a few hours.

I have watched the video of Adobe and don't see what I'm doing is different.

In Xcode, there is a window of devices. You can select your iPhone and check requests in this regard. Try dragging the IPA in this list. It may still fail, but I hope that Xcode will give a better error message.

It is a faster way to much to get applications on devices using iTunes. If it does not copy OK you can then try remote debugging in Animate and then open the application. The IP address of your computer, you must have this ready to type in.

  • Impossible to have exceptions to access to the usb port?

When you try to use VMWare group policy to disable access to the USB port, we are unable to add exceptions to certain devices. We have added the VID/PID in the peripheral "include VID/PID" parameter and the device will be mapped is no longer up to the user vm session. If we close this group policy setting off, the user is then able to use the usb device?

The include parameter is case-sensitive and the value must be entered in hexadecimal format, I know who gets people.

  • ESXi 6 - unable to connect the USB device to VM

    Hi people:

I have a problem with a specific USB 3 device to try to connect to a virtual computer.  The device is a Toshiba USB 3 5 TB hard drive, and it is recognized by ESXi I see when I do a lsusb command, but it is never offered as a choice available to connect to a virtual computer.  I tried to restart management agents, restart ESXi with the connected device so that it is immediately detected at startup.  I tried using the web client to vcenter server appliance and the native client C.  She just never appears as a choice just as if it is not there.  Other USB 3 devices, including a Startech gigabit network device and another 2 TB Toshiba USB drive appear as a choice, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with USB 3 devices as a whole.  I have connected to other computers and even an Arch Linux VM under the same ESXi which has a Startech USB 3 connected via PCI Passthrough controller and it works in all places.  I tried to connect to a USB 2 port just for the heck of it, and I got the same result (invisible to virtual machines) here is what information I have via the newspapers.  I see a few entries on the device being suspended in the vmkernel journal, but I don't know if it is normal for a device until it is assigned to a virtual computer.

Any ideas what is wrong or how to fix welcome.

Hi guys, I just had the same issue and it resolved on my test environment.

I got the device ID using "lsusb".

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0480:d011 Toshiba America information. Systems, Inc..

where 0480:d011 is the device ID

    Then ran the following command:

    oddities s esxcfg-module = 0480:d011:i usb-storage

After a reboot I was able to cross the device for my VMs.

I'm not an expert in this field, as far as I can understand of this thread: problem mit USB Passthrough (eine andere nicht, geht HDD) - to vSphere5 / ESXi 5.0 5.1 - VMware Forum und "usb-storage" module crashes when you try to access the drive and does not pass through to the arbitrator of the usb. The person in this thread turns off the usb storage but I boot from USB and so I couldn't do it. Steal the idea of this thread: zero calorie tech deals: VMFS formatted USB sticks in VMware vSphere 5.1 I could exclude the USB from the usb-storage module device (I think).

I have not tested how this affects other features, but initial test is positive.

  • How to start a client of the USB?

    Hello

I'm trying to start a client vmware linux from a usb key (which has an installer of linux inside).

I can create a host controller and a usb device. When I start the system, that the USB is connected to this client computer.

But I never managed to boot from usb-stick, the boot process * still * trying to get a response from a dhcp server. When I go to the bios Setup, I can only select a device "removable", until now, I didn t find any usb device to start.

Is usb-boot possible on esxi or should I try a workaround?

    concerning

It may be worth trying Plop Boot Manager 5.0 to see if it works with your distribution of USB.
