vSphere Host can't see NetApp storage

Experts in expensive storage...

We have recently installed vSphere (ESX 4.0) on a blade server that connects via the Cisco MDS switches to a NetApp 3140.  I believe all zoning is configured from the MDS switches I can FC Ping both the ESX box and the NetApp.  However, the NetApp does see not all CF developers even if they are in response to a Ping FC of the MDS.

Emulex two ports connect you successfully cloth, but no any NetApp targets found,

could you please a recheck both ports target NetApp and Emulex ports added to the fc switch even area? Thank you

  • Can not see the storage on BladeCenter S

    Hello

I have a HS23 blade with an on-board ESXi 5.0 USB stick and I have problems adding storage in the vSphere Client. The BladeCenter chassis has redundant SAS RAID modules. With the help of the IBM Storage Configuration Manager tool I created a pool of storage RAID 5 with a volume on this storage pool and assigned the volume to the blade HS23.

The previous read, I was expecting the new volume to appear in vSphere client essentially like DAS but I don't see anything. Matter who has ideas that I could have done wrong?

Bay 6 or 5? Your document Word said earlier that the volume titled "VMstorage" is mapped to "Blade_Bay_5".

If you are sure that you have mapped the drive correctly and do not at all see it when viewing your storage controllers in VMware, it is best to call VMware and see that if their storage media can help you understand why you don't even see the storage when viewing your controller.

  • 5.5.1 Director - can not see political storage (or their warehouses of data/clusters) created in vCenter 5.5

This is a new installation of vcenter 5.5 & 5.5.1 when I linked first the vcenter in Director I see policies of storage, that I had created as well as their data warehouses, but if I can change storage on the vcenter policies I don't see none of them more when trying to add them to the TDC and the option * (any) is no longer present all data stores that were part of them either even if I delete their tags of vcenter and storage policies.  As an experiment I tried to disassemble everything Manager and add the vcenter, I could see once more storage policies, but all other changes make it disappear again.  I tried to update vcenter in accordance with another similar post storage policies, but it does not help.

Is it perhaps a residual link with the old methods of storage profiles that must be maintained?  I tried to create those via the client of windows as well but could not see them in Director either.  Is it a problem that I don't see storage profiles in the policy storage or web client in the windows client?

Am I missing something?  At this point, I'm tempted to blow the 5.5.1 Director and install a 5,5 instead device to see if it has an impact.

Another question: I would be able to see the strategies of empty storage to the Director?  (as in those that are configured and the tag but are not yet associated with data warehouses?)  That would go a long way where I should be shot if I should be able to.

The process is fairly simple, but requires a brief interruption and access to the DB to clear some tables.  It is very similar to a browser's cache... clear it, and next time, it's a full download of the remote system.

I'm working on a document for that matter

  • Can't see iscsi storage

I have set up a virtual machine with two vmxnet eth adpt 3. a tip to the network and the other to point to my storage.  Having a problem to see my iscsi storage. I see only an address in the ip observed range and sound of my Vcenter server that has an ip of my config suggestions SAN management.

You must create a portgroup VM for iSCSI network on the vSwitch where physical right iSCSI network is connected.

Use the same network address, then try to do some testing with ping (for example).

  • New ESX5 host - questions see SAN storage data and much more

Just installed a new vSphere host 5 and added to a cluster with 2 x 3.5 host (in my vCenter Server 5)

    3 questions.

    1. I can't see LUN (on SAN datastore). Have zoned out my new HBA etc and still no joy. Tried the host that it recharges and rescan option etc. Any ideas?

2 - my 3.5 hosts I was able to specify different default gateways for my Console and VMKernel Service (both on the same vswitch). I have the Service Console configured vmkernel. 10.16.5.x and 172.16.5.x (I know there is no Service Console in vSphere 5\ESXi) but on my ESX5 host I can't specify different gateways for VMKernel and network management. I'm afraid that vmotion etc will not work between 3.5 hosts and host 5, because although the VMkernels have addresses in the same range, they have not the same gateway. I have to add a local route on the host ESX 5? Or am I wrong configured somewhere?

3 minor irritation. My local drive in my new server is showing that the data store. Can it be hidden or changed to not be visible in the data store? I want to only display my SAN data stores.

    Thank you very much

    Steve

    (1) sounds like a SAN configuration problem - you should be able to see the LUN masking and zoning is correct in the FC switch and storage array.

    (2) you could specify wear two ways because the vmkernel and the Service Console were different and supposed to be on different networks - you no longer have a gateway single vmkernel - traffic will work as long as they are on the same subnet - a gateway is used only when you exit the subnet

    (3) I do not think it is possible to hide the local data store - but I could be wrong

  • Can't see all hosts in vCenter - how to add?

I am trying to import virtual machines in a configuration, but for some reason I can't see on the ESXi Server VMS in vCenter and can not see the other three ESXi hosts VMs

I tried to add the host via the "attach Resource Pool" but I see no ESXi host and data centers?

ESXi hosts are on the same network and I can see thme in vCenter

    Thank you

It does not work. The single host, you will be able to use is within the DFS Client Center X.

If you logically different containers, make different groups within the same data center.  This restriction has been in place since Lab Manager 3.0.0.

  • Can NOT see the data store after ESXi update host?

    Hi all

We use the host ESXi 3.5 on DELL PE 2850 with RAID 5 local storage.  Today, I ran utility update for the host VMware and firmware updated BIOS and RAID on the host computer before a restart of the system.  After the reboot, the system correctly loads the operating system and when I check for storage, the data (with critical VM) store is missing.  Can not see that again.

Please help me to recover my data with the virtual machines in her store.

    Thank you

    Nadine

ESXi is installed on the same Partition RAID 5, which is located in the VMFS data store? for example. do you know that the partition is still intact?

According to what the RAID firmware upgrade has done, it is possible that you may need to set the LVM. EnableResignature option 1 if the score ended with a new UUID.

  • VCAC 6 can't see vSphere computing resources in my group of fabric

    Hi all

I hope there, can someone help me. I don't know why I can't see vSphere compute resources in my group of fabric.

After installation and connection to VCAC successfully, I discovered that there is a default tenant called vsphere.local that I used to create a new store of identity in which I used the Active Directory configuration, the next step was to store information to identify the user for endpoints in this case, my endpoint is only vCenter so I created and configured a new endpoint for a my vCenter. point the address I used was "' https:// IP address/sdk" (I don't know whether to put sdk or not at the end in some blogs say it is necessary to include "sdk", I tried with and without good) then I tried to create a new group of fabric and when I click on 'New tissue group' the guest window doesn't show any computing resource of vSphere. " I found that one possible reason that would prevent me from not see compute resources could be because vmware services do not run on the VACA-IaaS machine that was not my case.

Are there clues? or if I jumped a step when configuring tenant, of competence and of endpoint, can you please tell me.

    Thank you

    Carlos

    Hello!

New endpoint must have the same name as the proxy agent (by default - vCenter). If you don't remember, you can check the name in Add/Remove Programs (name of the proxy agent).

Coordinates of the VC in endpoint - https://FQDN/sdk

  • VSphere/ESXi can run on different processor architecture?

We want to implement VMware infrastructure and research in the vSphere purchase Ess. 'More'. We are not implement shared storage. We will have 3 ESXi host total.

I want to save money as much as possible. I have a HP Proliant DL380p Gen8 and a DL385 G7 servers. By HP, both are compatible with ESXi 6.0. I would use these two servers and have to buy a server.

The DL380p is the DL385 AMD and Intel. If this configuration can work or this server must be Intel?

    Thank you

    Alex

We absolutely want to use vMotion. Can be used without storage shared, correct?

Yes, it is possible since the 5.1, but there are a few things to keep in mind. It's basically a combination of storage vMotion, transferring the VM disks from one storage to another and a regular vMotion device, transfer a live VM running from the memory of one host to another.

As such it is nowhere as dynamic as a normal vMotion alone, since the copy of VM disk data can take some time. There is also no support DRS.

You can read about some more here: http://wahlnetwork.com/2012/11/21/leveraging-vmwares-enhanced-shared-nothing-vmotion/

Must the CPU be the same model? For example, should all have Intel Xeon E5 2609 v2 CPU?

No, the basic requirement for transfer a live OS running, it's that both source and destination host supports the same CPU instruction sets. Exact model, clock speed Mhz cache, dimensions, etc. are not relevant as long as the CPU instruction sets are identical. So no, they do not have to be the exact same model.

In addition, you can enable Enhanced vMotion compatibility (EVC) on a cluster of servers with the same CPU provider, which allows you to establish the lowest common denominator of a generation of CPU between different hosts. For example, the Xeon E5 2609 v2 you mentioned is a generation Ivy Bridge CPU. If you add a generation Sandy Bridge Xeon you define the EVC to Sandy Bridge mode, as it is the older generation in your cluster and containing all common instructions sets that are also found in the home of Ivy Bridge of latest generation. If you add a

host with Haswell generation CPU, you would set the EVC at Ivy Bridge mode respectively.

VCA will hide the new instructions to virtual machines to ensure that they can be migrated directly to all guests.

You have to keep AMD out of your cluster host, but that's not really make a difference in your case since vMotion work never between AMD and Intel, and that you can not use VMware HA because you are devoid of shared storage. Just be aware that VM on the host AMD will never be able to migrate to other hosts without interruption of service through enhanced vMotion.

See these articles for more details on the VCA:

  • Can't see the new data store

I created a new LUN on my NetApp storage system.   In VMware, the iSCSI initiator of software in "Static discovery" shows that the objectives have been discovered.  On the NetApp, one system "> iscsi initiator show" shows that the iSCSI HBA is properly connected to the storage system.  However, when I conduct a new analysis of data warehouses in vSphere client, the new LUN never appears so I can format it with VMFS.  Anyone know what could be the problem?

    Thank you!

You introduce the LUNS to the host/initiator group?

  • vSphere replication: can it be used with Hyper-V?

I have a use case where I would like to migrate virtual servers (largely 2008R2) Hyper-V hosts to 5.5 ESXi hosts.  I know I could use vCenter Converter to do this in a procedure in 2 steps, or Zerto in a simpler process, but I was wondering if vSphere replication can be used.  I have not seen anything which seems to indicate that it can be used, but I thought I'd ask anyway.  Thanks for any input.

Unfortunately, I do not see how it would be possible.

Zerto / VMware Converter would be your best options
