Some sites require Silverlight work properly. Microsoft has removed Silverlight so sites fewer and fewer are now require it.
I could uninstall Silverlight and see if sites you use require you to install Silverlight.

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (pros and cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to understand if I had time to open up and see exactly each feature does, but just opening the program for the first time. I'm not sure I need it or what exactly? Thanks in advance for any idea that someone can give me.

Updates for Microsoft Silverlight install, and I can't uninstall Ms.
Whenever I'm in the updates of windows, silverlight is still one of them, and it fails every time. So I try to uninstall and it gives me an uninstall message and the custom error. Someone please help.
Hi Tanaela,
1. are you able to install some other updates?
2. What is the error message you receive then try to install Microsoft Silverlight Update or uninstall the update?
I would follow the methods mentioned below and check if that does the trick:
Method 1: You can re-register Windows Installer, follow these steps:
a. click Start, click run and then type cmd in the dialog box, and then click command prompt.
b. at the command prompt, type the following command and press enter after each line:
c. to unregister the type install windows MSIExec /Unregister.
d. to re-register MSIExec/regserverwindows installer type.
e. try to install Microsoft Silverlight.
Method 2: To resolve this problem, run the Silverlight uninstall program to remove the Windows Installer registry settings, and then reinstall Silverlight. To do this, follow these steps:
Download, install and then run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the Windows Installer registry settings that are associated with your
Download it from:
How to clean a facility damaged Silverlight and then reinstall Silverlight

See if that helps you to uninstall Silverlight on the computer.
If you managed to uninstall Silverlight, visit the following Web page and download the latest version.

Once this is done, you should consider running Windows update again.
Hope the helps of information. Please come back for any clarification on this or any issue of Windows. We will be happy to help you.

Microsoft Silverlight not updating and uninstalling
I noticed that Microsoft Silverlight updates have not been installed for some time now and remain in the updates area important. So I tried the update and came with the file don't are not recognized or changed. I thought then that I remove the program and all over again, but then I had this box (with the big red x in a circle) warning message on my screen
The Windows Installer
This patch could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package
.. Please can you help me remove this program if I can install with new?
Hey Lord Dracon,
Try to uninstall Silverlight with Revo: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html mode advanced that sometimes helps when normal uninstallation methods fail.
If this does not work or if it does but you have problems to re - install Silverlight (possibly also because of Windows Installer), then check out the Silverlight Forum at the: http://forums.silverlight.net/13.aspx. You can search for previously responds to questions or post your own new thread (like here). I draw your attention to this subject more precisely which seems to contain information that should help you: http://forums.silverlight.net/t/234395.aspx/1?Cannot+update+uninstall+install+Silverlight+.
If the question is about the Windows Installer, it can help in the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso1.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

HowTo: "don't show this update" for Microsoft Silverlight?
I have a problem preventing the wanting to install Silverlight from Microsoft/Windows Update. Every time when I do a Microsoft/Windows Update, the 'software, optional"has at least a suggested entry: Silverlight.
The first 10 + times this happened, I clicked on the "don't show me this update again", but it has always been ignored. The of Ms/Win next update, the update of Silverlight is there still.
I'm not anti-Silverlight, but I do not need to have installed and prefer not to see the recommendation every time. IIRC, I installed it once on a virtual machine of MsVpc2007-SP1. Seemed ok but not essential that I have the boss needs to do.
I'm a developer of software (for most MFC) who prefer to have my score of development as 'vanilla' as possible with only these tools/utilities that I have found to be essential/reliable/stable/etc...
I could check with success "don't show me this update again" for most of the optional software utilities, such as Search, PowerShell, .NET, etc. Silverlight seems the only one that does not take account of the "don't show this update again."
Hi l_d_allan,.
Thanks for the reply.

Error code 800064C on update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2416427)
Windows Update tries to install Microsoft Silverlight (KB2416427), each test always ends 800064 C error Code.
I searched MS Help Center for this error code, but found no reference.
My system is Windows 7 64 bit.
Edit, I also tried to disable the antivirus (Avira) before the installation, I always get this error code.
Edit 2: Components Reseting Windows Update did not help either...
Hi Amir Deutel,
1. have you tried to install the update manually?
First try to install the update manually and check.

Use 32-bit Edition Vista Home premium with Service Pack 2 for Vista
I have my computer set up to check daily microsoft updates
This morning I noticed that my Microsoft updates had detected an update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB 2164913). »
So, I advanced and downloaded and installed. But I noticed my Norton security showed that
MsiExec.exe
ran around the same time.
Just checking to make sure that this should have happened (the msiexec.exe have disclosed as having executed) I have just never that seen before what installation monthly microsoft updates or when the other microsoft updates race
Don't know but perhaps because KB2164913 is a Silverlight upgrade, not a status update (e.g. v3.x-4.x Silverlight online-Silverlight).
You could ask in the forum: http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/13.aspx
Or contact the Norton Support.
