Win XP SP2 will not write or Format floppy

I need help. I want to update my Asus A7N8X bios, but need to format a disk with the back of AWFLASH.  I haven't used a floppy in forever.  Here is what I get when I try.

format a:/s
/ s is no longer a valid option to BACK leaning against the cmnd.  (Gives you an idea of how long ago I did).

Explorer, right click on a:, freezes.  Double clicking on a: freezes.

Cmnd, format a:, written to disk or trying too, then check 1.44 M and gives me an error "Invalid Media or Bad Track 0 - disk unusable.

Boot in safe mode with a command cmnd prompt, I can change a: directory.  I can read the discs.  But I can't write to them.  When I try to delete a file I get the error message "access denied."   When I try to format, I get "cannot open volume for direct access.

I am running XP Pro 2002 Service Pack 2.  (Version 5.1 (Build 26000.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301 - 1519: Service Pack 2) drive C: My has about 2 G of free, I keep running out of room and I have new drives to install but looks like I need to update the BIOS to update how it runs the SATA discs I bought.)

Also running AVG 8.5.406.

I miss the old format of forums Ms.  I have no idea where to post this too.  For me this means that MS does not want validate me outings with XP.

I'm an EE with 30 years of experience.  Must be able to format a diskette.  you do not?  Don't believe that it is a hardware problem, just a poor sw upgrade and the os.  I'm not a fan of updates, there are too many questions to track and test and ensure that you break something that worked like forever.

Therefore, after slam you, I still need your help please.  Thank you.

Maybe your disk has failed, or try a different brand of disk

    2. what type of files you are trying to burn?
    3. this happens with all new CD - RW discs?

    Try these steps and check.

Step 2: Reinstall the driver of DVD player.
    a. click Start, click run, type sysdm.cpland then clickOK.
    b. in the hardware tab, click Device Manager.
    c. expand ligthscribe-ROM readers, right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.
    d. on the Action menu, click on Search the hardware changes.

Step 3: If you have still the CD for your burning software, uninstall all the other DVD burning software on your computer and check. You can install their return after verification.

I use Windows XP and use the disk drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD - 7530A. Under "Properties" is the State of the device "working properly" and he plays both CDs and DVDs. However, it will not write. I tried several software programs, including windows Media Player. When I right click on the driver, there is a recording tab.

The drive appears to work at first, but it can progress remains at 0% and the drive will continue as he does something, but it's not. If I try to cancel the burning using buttons in the software, nothing will happen. It will freeze my computer. The Task Manager will not work, and my only option is to keep the off button on the laptop until it dies. When I turn it back on, a small window pops up saying files are waiting to be transferred to disk, click on the bubble to continue (or something like that). If I click on it, then I see the blue screen of death and the computer shuts down.
He also seems to have done something for my Explorer, it freezes too (I'm on Safari now)

My DVD - RW drive will not write to disk, it is only recognized on my computer as a DVD ROM and CD - ROM only. I looked in Device Manager and there is no question mark by it and he says it's working properly, I had it works normally about 2 weeks ago, can you help me? L.M.Baggley

If it worked about two weeks ago, you could try a restore point to return the parameters of your system they had previously, by using the system restore. It is in the startmenu, all programs, system, SYSTEM RESTORE tools. Choose a point of older and not the most recent. Alternatively, right - click the icon for your drive and make sure that the recording tab is there, and that registration is enabled on the computer. You will also find it better if you record at a slower speed and not the faster if you want to avoid reading errors. "THE BEST THING TO DO IN THIS WORLD IS A WRONG ANSWER! "I"DON'T"WINDOWS...". »

  • Satellite P30 - DVD-RAM drive will not write DVD

I have a Satellite P30 - 145 running XP Home Edition with a carpet * a reader of DVD-RAM UJ - 831S. I am able to read and write CDs and read DVDs, but am unable to write DVD. In 'My Computer', the drive is marked as a DVD - RAM drive, but if I insert a DVD r or DVD R, the label changes to CD drive, and I am not able to format the drive, I just inserted.
Clues as to what is happening and what I can do about it?

    Hello

Since when is this problem here? Is your unit pre-installed with your own operating system or with the recovery image? DVD - RAM Driver Software V3.1.0.0 is also pre-installed correctly? Burning application you are using?

Try to remove the drive from Device Manager, reboot the device and check if the drive is recognized correctly again. As far as I know that your device comes with fixed burner DVD Super Multi (Double Layer) and you should be able to create all formats.

    What is DVD format?

  • File object property will not write as digital 0 in TS 4.1.1

    Hey everybody,

So, I came across a weird problem and I was wondering if it was a 'feature', or if I'm missing something.

Basically when I write a digital 0 to a file property object, using the Write method of the API, it doesn't seem to be written.  I enclose a simple example of what I want to accomplish.  Here are the steps of reproduction:

1 - Open the movie file in TS 4.1.1

    2. run the sequence

3 ignore the error the first time, it appears up... it has to first create the file.

    4. insert any value other than 0

5 - run the new order (shouldn't get an error this time)

6 see if the returned value is the same as that in which you initially set

7-type 0 as the new value

    8. run again the sequence (no still no error... assuming you did it right)

    9. see if the returned value is 0. If you see what I see that it is not 0, this will be your original value.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Thank you

    Jigg,

If you use the ReadWriteOption RWOption_EraseExistingObject or RWOption_EraseAll when writing to the file, you will get the behavior, you need.

    The cause belongs to two.

    (1) one who is to minimize the consumption of storage space and files and to maximize speed, TestStand generally does not write default values. When reading in a file, if the value does not exist, it is assumed to be the default value.

    (2) without the readwrite Erase options, when you write to an existing file, it just adds new information to the file and does not delete the old information. For example, without erasing it would also leave previous subproperties writes to the file too.

It is a reasonable argument to make that when you write a property with a default value, a default value already stored in the file should be deleted. I'll save this issue for future investigation, however, you really should be using one of the options delete anyway as I doubt you want to subproperties of previous writing be kept in the file either.

    Hope this helps,

    -Doug
