Write Protection

How to remove 'write protection' from a SD card?

In general it is a switch small cursor on the map.  However, sometimes a damaged card will give a "write protect" error, which really means that the card is no longer usable.

    Hello

    Hoping for help.

Bought a 64 b USB Thumb Drive (UHYBS-064GH), a private seller, but the point is brand new in packaging.

When I tried to copy files through him, he maxed out at comments 45Gig and seems to have caused a clerical error. I was able to remove the majority of the cases, however on 5gig of them would not remove (in that they seem to have removed, until you updated).

To counter this, I tried to "quick format", the drive (using Windows XP SP3), but the disc is write protected and I am unable to remove it.

Spoke to a friend who told me that I should try a low-level format, which tried & it seemed to work, however when I insert the USB system indicates that the drive is not formatted & I would like to format. When you click Yes, I get the error 'write protected '.

Was the question of the google machine & even tried to change registry settings, but also failed.

So I hope someone out there has a solution for me (which does not include a big hammer & some anger management)...?

Would it be possible that this USB drive is defective?
In my opinion, you should contact the merchant and must replace it with another.

    Hi vipsolan,

Let us know the model # of the Flash DRIVE that you use.

Insert the USB into the computer, right click and select format. Try changing the file such as NTFS or FAT format and verify if works.

  • How can I write protect a USB

I have an external USB formatted drive for Max OX extended (journaled). He has a backup of my music collection so I want to write protect it so that it can be READ and not deleted or all files deletion. How this is possible - running an iMac and El Capitan.

I've tried right-clicking on the drive and the subfolders in the Finder and by changing the attributes of read/write READ ONLY for me and all the world, but I can always delete individual files.

    Thank you.

You must disable the attribute "Ignore permissions" on the external hard drive. Just do a Get Info (command I) command on the volume desired in a Finder window and then downstairs there is a checkbox Check titled "Ignore permissions on this volume" - uncheck the box so that the ownership rules are now used for its content, then the privileges you set for those who can read and write should be respected.

Note that this applies only to external volumes that I think - the internal disk volumes does not have this checkbox "Ignore permissions" is checked.

    Good luck...

    Hello!

    Get help from hp support.

The technician suggested I make a test disc with http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.htmlformat.

He failed and prompted the 'Protected disc' message, so my USB Flash drive was considered dead.

I went back to my dealer and proceeded to an Exchange. The dealer was not surprised: according to him, large USB Flash Drives seems to be subject to this kind of malfunction.

I hope to be luckier with the new!

  • HPE-470f built in SD card reader reads the cards as write protected

WIN 7 Professional 64 bit, SP 1 and all the updates, latest Bios and drivers installed, HPE-470f

The SD card reader to work properly.  Put it in any piece now, the camera sees the chip, reports that it needs to be formatted (not true) and when he tries, then says it cannot complete.  Displays the disk disk management is write protected.  I suspect the internal switch inside the drive is blocked or broken.

have you tried: blowing the dust out of the drive, spray of contact cleaner in the device, try several chips (all of which work well in my cameras before and after trying in the HP drive.)

    Any suggestions?

Apart from the drive of cleaning dust and spray contact cleaner in the drive, I have:

1 uninstalled all USB devices in Device Manager and forced the system to reinstall everything.

2 uninstall the drive itself in the Device Manager and forced the system to reinstall.

3 tried several cards in the reader with similar results: the system sees the card, says it has to be formatted (it was already formatted in the camera).  Formatting attempts get an error that it cannot be completed.

    4. the program of HP, but it can not format the card to be downloaded.  Reports "unable to format the device.

I've always used player soft and methods of ejecting device to remove cards.  I think that it is a loss with a broken read/write switch.  It's too hard getting the subassembly of legacy of the case card reader.  It takes almost a complete disassembly of the machine to get out.

    Thanks for trying to help.

  • SD card shows that it is write protected, how do I disable that?

I have an sd card that has pictures on it and I want to remove them, but in trying, it say t he sd card is write only how do I cange so I can remove the photos.

Look on the side of the SD card. There is a small switch that is write protected. Put it to the other position.

  • How to remove the floppy write protection

How can I remove write Protection from a disk 1.3 MB

Sometimes the switch 'cursor' on diskettes 3,5 "bit was removed (to create the disk read-only permanently). If this is the case, then just put a piece of opaque tape over the 'hole' (where the slider switch was)... and you'll be able to write to the diskette.

If you hold the diskette if you are looking at the rear, the slider switch (or a hole where was the slide switch) is at the bottom RIGHT.

Please note that the 3.5-inch disks came in various capacities (the two most common are 720 KB and 1.44 MB. If you hold the diskette, then you're looking at the back, then there will be a hole on the bottom LEFT, which is used to indicate the command what is the capacity of the disk. If my memory is good, there will be a hole in the bottom LEFT (when you see the back of the disc), for drives with capacity of 1.44 MB, and if no hole is on bottom LEFT, then the floppy drive is 720 KB.

My point... If you need to put a piece of opaque tape over the hole where the playback cursor / writing has been (to make writable disk), don't forget to put tape over the hole at the bottom RIGHT (looking at the BACK of the disc... and 'back', I mean the side without label and where can be seen the axis of the disc).

  • How can I remove a USB write protection

my USB is write-protected how to remove it?

    Hello

What operating system do you use?

Write protection is a feature found on many different types of media. When the write protection is turned on, you will be able to view the information on the disc or USB key, but you won't be able to write or transfer information to it.

Write protection is an element of protection which prevents accidental deletion of important data. Sometimes turning off the write protection is as simple as uncapping the USB key to find a manual switch. If your player lacks an external switch, the procedure requires a few steps to complete.

    (a) turn on your computer and plug the drive after that your operating system is loaded.

    (b) open 'My computer' and the list of readers of research until you find your USB drive letter

    (c) right click on the name, then click 'properties '. Browse the tabs until you see the option to remove the write protection. If this does not work, proceed to the next step.

    (d) visit the website of the company for your USB key. Go to the help or support section and search for "write protect".

    (e) search the Internet for software that will remove the write protection. Download the program and install it on your computer.

    (f) open the software. Follow the instructions to remove your USB write protection.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to detect the write-protected SD card

    Hi all

I couldn't find the answer to my question, so I started a new thread.

Problem: I would like to as for Labview (or directly TestStand) detect programmatically whether an SD card (secure digital) card has the "write protection" slider switch active.

    Is it possible somehow?

PS: I also couldn't find this information anywhere in Windows 7 as well. I use LV 2011 SP1.

PPS: For the moment I'm trying to create a file on the SD card and detect the clerical error, telling me whether or not the card is protected. But I would like a more elegant solution.

Wow, it's already here for Labview: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/2048

All you have to do (I hope) is to analyse this value 'flags '!

  • Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume, because it is write protected.

I can't get the start menu appears in safe mode then I have botted on a cd with the command prompt and when I type chkdsk/r, so, it gives me "windows cannot run disk checkingo n this volume because it is write protected."  Can someone tell me what I can do to fix this?

If you encounter a problem that you need help, follow these steps:

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

What you see you don't think you need to see?

What do not you think that you should see?

Fill in the blank: my system worked well until: _.

If you just want to start by running chkdsk /r on your hard drive (a good idea), I would follow the instructions below:

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix all the problems.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the command prompt.

Start by checking the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Do, or do not. There is no test.
