WRT54GS V5.1 - lost CD

OK, I'm a resident, the router I have is the WRT54GS V5.1 - and unfortunetly broke the CD in the United Kingdom. My main computer is messed up as it got too hot and I simply ignored him. Now its burnt out and im left stick the router on this laptop.

This happened last time I had succeeded to save the installer on a USB key, but now I've lost this USB.

I checked the section "Support / Download" but it does not contain the installation wizard, only the Firmware... but it doesn't have the Installation Wizard of the V3... which is kinda stupid like why would you download the installation just v1/2/3/and wizards not the rest?

Anywho, can any1 link me / upload one Assistant for WRT54GS V5.1 Installation please. I need to install it so I can get up my XBL I pay so that you know! Ive reset my router so its just coming up as "linksys" and is not protected so don't know who Leech off my internet as we speak! -BTW im connected to the internet via a cable connection, I need the router must be installed for the brothers can use internet on their Pc.

NVM, I managed to go to 192.168.1.1 and basically put in 1 place out there with a firmware updated and secure...

Although I can't get the internet to work on the second computer... so yes thanks for the help, guess that ima try n find a solution for this by myself... again.

I have an old WRT54G V.3 (2005) that has worked perfectly for years, but recently it has begun to lose its settings any time, that there is a power failure. (No matter how short)

I've updated the Firmware to 4.21.1 but nothing helped.

The device is connected to a UPS but still down settings.

After a power failure, I have to press the Red reset and then reset all security settings.

Can I do short of buying a new router?

As you have already updated the firmware on your router, and still, you are facing the same problem, then I think that this could be the problem with the router itself. Still, maybe you can try to re-flashing the firmware on your router and then check. If still the same problem, then you can think about buying a new router.

  • Internet access via Wi - Fi lost to WRT54GS

I got a home network for the past two years.

ISP is Virgin Media (was Blueyonder) cable broadband.

    Router is Linksys WRT54GS

Desktop computer is connected by cable to the router.

    Laptop is connected wireless.

    Two computers running Windows Vista

No settings have been changed, but all of a sudden the laptop can still connect to the network, but will not get on the internet.

The PING etc tests confirm that the laptop is on the network.

Laptop was returned to the PC World under extended warranty. They said, he had been infected with a form any of Scareware, preventing access to the internet, said that they had authorized, and the laptop connected wirelessly on their network. When I got home, it still wouldn't connect to the internet.

I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows - still the same.

I have updated the firmware on the router - still the same.

I plugged the portable th. to a network of friends, and he got on the internet there. I also have it connected via ethernet to the modem cable, and it worked as well.

BUT I still can't connect to internet wireless - ideas please?

NP, it seems that all the connection settings on your computer is meaning, everything is normal. Have you checked if the values DNS on the router and your computer are similar?

If they are, do you know how to reset your router? Press RESET on the back of 30 seconds while the power is on and then perform the procedure here

  • WRT54G windows 7 without Internet

    Firmware v1.1 4.21.1

    Hello

General information... as a short but detailed as possible

I have the wired connections that follows:

    Desktop PC (Windows7)

    Bedroom PC (XP)

    Printer

    PS3

    wireless connections:

    Room 2 PC (XP)

    Laptop (XP)

I had all this running smoothly across the router from W7 is released and installed on the desktop computer.

Yesterday, our internet lost space through our cable provider. Came back on today, but here's where the problems start.

I confirmed service service providers is back upward by connecting the modem directly to the desktop. Everything is ok.

I then tried to connect through the router WRT54G, but W7 tells me that I have no internet access. I can connect to 192.168.1.1 OK, but on the status page, it shows me the following:

    IP address: 0.0.0.0

    Subnet mask: 0.0.0.0

    Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

None of the list of the DNS 1, 2 or 3.

Troubleshooting network in W7 I said the "DNS server not responding".

Trying to do a ping test 192.168.1.1 in the Administration tab says "network is unreachable".

The local DHCP Active IP network Table / status shows my DT 192.168.1.100 but agin not able Ping this address, again "network is unreachable".

I tried options DHCP Release and rescued, but nothing changes.

My next step was to reflash the firmware and power cycle the router but still no change.

This is so, I can't access the internet through the router (only directly from the modem to the PC) so I get a lot of grief for children who want to play the PS3, but more important still, I can't online from my workstation in the bedroom. I would be surprised if the router is dead despite his age, because I can access the page to admin without problem.

Any ideas on what I can do to get everything working again.

    THX

    Update

Two power cycles later and all work again. Don't know why, but hayho.

  • Cannot complete the installation on WRT54GS and connect to internet

Hello everyone.  I recently was good to a WRT54GS v.2, which came from a member of the family which has improved their wireless router and therefore passed it along to me.  It worked perfectly for them, but not me.

I tried to use the installation CD and do a manual installation, but no internet connection is detected.  I have to admit being a total newbie router wireless, this is my first, so I am confused as what to do then.  I looked through the forum and the FAQ, but I don't know what could be applied to my situation and I am not very well versed in the terminology, I tend to get lost.

If someone could be kind enough to help me out or point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you!

OK, I have another update, lol.

I have just gone to the configuration page and decided that, what the devil, I would return the automatic DHCP settings instead of the PPPoE to see what is happening, and here I can now browse the internet!  Certainly, it's Wired installation and now I have to set up our second computer with the network adapter hope it will connect with the wireless router, which is the point of this whole exercise, but at least, I'm a lot closer.  No baby, lol.

Thank once again for all the kind help.

  • I lost my router user name and the password and reset does not have without the router

I haven't used my router wireless of Linksys WRT54G v5 for about 1 1/2 years and he needs now to a new place.

I put a username and password I forgot for a long time for access to the web according to the security protocols for the modem and I lost the disc for the program control protocol.

I tried pressing the reset button to clear the modem and it took the WPA Protocol off the power to the modem, so I can use it without any security, but this isn't a good thing.

Help! How do unlock it so I can get to the security protocols and put back the security on my modem?

RESET the router the button is @ the back of it.

Connect a computer to one of the ports numbered on the router.

  • New software download for WRT54GS

Hey all. I use a Linksys WRT54GS v 7.2 router model number. Currently it works fine but I have to reformat my hard drive soon and we have lost the CD that we used to install the drivers.

I was in the downloads section of this site and downloaded the drivers, but it came in a file in .bin format. I tried to run with Daemon Tools, but there was no file cue with him so it didn't work. I tried to make a cue file, and it still does not work. I wanted to test to make sure that it works once I reformatted.

How can I get this software again? If the .bin file is what I need, how can we get to reinstall what I need?

    Thanks a bunch!

Well, since nothing else has been changed... Yes just plug into it like you had and go.  However, if this does not work, you will need to configure it from scratch.  You can download the manual from the site of Linksys or go here to start.  This will get your wired connection going.  However, you need to check your computer's wireless.  Now you need for the wireless network adapter drivers that are available from the manufacturer of the computer.

The firmware for the WRT54G V8 router is .bin. Download the firmware for WRT54G V8 and save it to the desktop. Now open a browser Internet Explorer on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase... Now, click on the Administration tab, then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' void tab-here, click on 'Browse' and find the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...

OK, I have many, many models and versions.  I have a WRT54G v1, V1.1, V2... V8, I also of the WRT54GS WRT54GL and others, many other things of Linksys, almost everything in the blue and black of varying sizes boxes.

I have a devil of a time when I reconfigure my network or the woman changes the furniture.  I'd like a single document that lists power specifications and the requirements of adapter for devices of Athens... I can't find them anywhere on Linksys website.  I've searched and searched and nowhere can I find a list of consolidate.  I searched the forums and found many individual inscriptions, but it is a pain.

This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series page lists a lot of information but does not list this critical information...  If someone send me the list, I'll try to get it posted it.  I'm amazed that Linksys does not listed it some here.  Lose a wall wart should not be a reason to pull you hair, just a simple purchase, if they do not want their stock, then at least tell us what they are.

Well it is not possible to find the specification of power supply for all cards in a single list. You must manually locate each model number of your router and check their record and note the power adapter specification.

  • WRT54GS Setup on my office network

I work for a large company and want to reinstall my wireless router, so I move me from one room to the other with my laptop without plugging in our network. I had it put in place before, but had to spend an hour with technical support to set up the router.  Recently, I had to reset the password and lost all the settings.

I can get to connected to the establishment with the password by default but have no idea how to set it up. No matter what I try, I get no conectivity when I try to redirect the browser to the internet.

Yes, I know I should leave our network COMPUTING staff put in place, but they get all bent when I want to extend my wireless configuration access even if it is password protected. Can someone help me out here?

    Thank you

Well, I use the router wireless wrt54G V8. Works the same as yours?

I just went by the addition of this router as a network wireless access point on my local network.

It's really quite easy once I realized a few things.

First, you will need an IP address for the router to entrust your IT
people. If you are not going to be able to get it, I'm not sure what you can do.

IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1 default. Assuming you reset him

router by default, simply connect a cable to one of the router's Ethernet

ports (not the Internet port) and connect the other end to a laptop. The router will

power to the laptop with a IP address and you will be able to run a browser for

http://192.168.1.1 to access the router administration pages. The connection on

my router was admin with a password of admin, but I've seen people from Linksys

say other things, so this cannot be true for all models of router.

Once connected to the administrative pages, you can assign any IP address

you want to the IP address of the router. You will see the default 192.168.1.1 in

    There now.

Assuming that your IT people assign you a static IP address of 192.168.135.37 (or

whether it is), then you'll want to assign as the IP address of the router in the

administration pages. Note that once you do this, you will not be able to talk

the router via your mobile phone directly connected any longer. You will need to

Always connect the router to your office network - via one of the Ethernet ports

    (not via the Internet port).

You may need to reset the router after changing his IP address, even if

I don't have to do it on my own.

With the router connected to your office network, you should be able

to access it from any PC connected to the network in exercise, by

Navigate to the IP address assigned by IT (in my example 192.168.135.37

    (See above).

Now you can activate the wireless network, assign a security mode.

    passwords/pass phrases, etc.

When wireless devices negotiate security of your wireless router,

they will act as if they were connected directly to your desktop in

    network.

I can provide more details, if you wish. Perhaps by PM?

    Let me know,

  • WRT54G will connect to the network but will not connect to internet

Guys, I installed an older Linksys CM100 cable modem and when I did I lost the connection to the internet using the WRT54G Router. I can connect fine net when I go to right fromt the modem cable to the pc. I can use my home network very well. I did a firmware upgrade, does not. I'm losing my mind. It worked fine before the new cable modem. Does make sense to anyone? BTW, I can't connect to the internet via wired or wireless connections and ping www.google.com gives 100% packet loss. Ditto for a ping to 192.168.1.100 (cable modem) when the router is connected.

    Dear God please help me

    -Jacob

Thus, because no one here was able to offer all the help, I called tech support and was very surprised. I was able to get a tech immediately and without going through the 1 million on the phone buttons. The service is in India, but I could communicate well enough with him, even though I usually have people of understanding of handful who speak English as a second language. The issue that I had was that the default IP of the modem cable (192.168.1.100) and ip address of the router (192.168.1.1) were too similar. Apparently, the fact that the 3rd number 1 for both series was the cause of the problem. We changed the IP address of the router to 192.168.5.1, power cycling it and unfortunately it worked.

  • WRT54G V8.2 Firmware woes

    Hi all

I tried to update my firmware for the latest and best Linksys for my router V8.2 and have some trouble. It seemed that everything was fine, but after the restart and connect to 192.168.1.1, all I get is 'Management Mode Firmware Upgrade', and he asks a file. I tried the firmware file again in this area, but it always returns just "upgrade failed" and I get nowhere.

I did some further studies in the way and tried to use the Linksys tftp tool to install the upgrade, but no luck. Beforehand, I set up the IP address of my computer and set the speed of the NIC 10 Mb half duplex. I also took a hit on the problem with tftp using the command-line of the window, but I get "timeout exceeded".

Here are the results of ping 192.168.1.1:

Ping 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">

    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">

    Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0 (0% loss),
Time approximate round trip in milli-seconds:

Does anyone have this persistant problem with their WRT54G V8.2? It's a shame how it worked so far, only to be injured by a stupid firmware update!

    Thank you

    -solidus126

After an update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last update of the firmware, please do it now and see if it solves your problem.  If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

Also, make sure that your computer is configured to obtain an IP automatically, disable any firewall, the security software on the computer before you try to access the configuration page...

  • WRT54G and WRE54G does not...

    Hello

I try to extend my network v1.02.7 WRT54G with an v3.04.01 WRE54G Expander wireless.

    SSID is disabled

    128-bit WEP encryption

    Channel 6 on both devices

    Router IP 192.168.2.2

    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 router

Start DHCP 192.168.2.100 IP (max 50)

    Routing Table entry list:

WAN gateway 192.168.1.1-> 192.168.1.104-> 192.168.2.2 gateway WAN (LAN & Wireless)

Repeater IP 192.168.2.100 (also tried 192.168.2.3)

    Repeater 255.255.255.0 subnet mask

    Repeater 192.168.2.2 Gateway

When I turn on both devices and connect with my laptop for the Repeater everthing seems to work very well at first.

After a few minutes tho the Repeater of fire seems to be "lost in transaltion ' and the connection

Gets VERY slow (with I mean nothing happens more). It maintains the connection tho.

When it is connected to the router or via cable and everything works fine.

Any suggestions before I got this thing in the store?

    Thank you!

Eureka! I think I got it...

I did a few tests more with the distance between the router-> expander-> computer.

If I was in a room with the router, expader and computer everything worked fine.

It doesn't matter if I was connected to the router or extender or via cable.

So I thought that the distance between the router and the expander control is REALLY crucial.

Too close and you're not developing your network enough... too far and you won't get a connection with the Extender that actually works.

What I did then put the router in the center of the 1st floor and the Expander in the Center

from the 2nd floor above the router. And now after a few hours everything still works fine!

Don't be fooled the indicator of the signal strength in Windows!

All this did not properly although it said very well all the time...

    thx again!
