Add a scanner

There is that one scanner listed in the add a scanner box. It it's not that I want to install. It is not updated, and when I say that I have the disc it will not find the info on the drive I spent the morning on with canon support and drivers will be installed yet for my Pixma mp190

Hello

If it does not install on Vista and then have you considered or tried "compatibility mode" and tried to use Windows XP? I do not work for Microsoft I, like many other MVPS on this forum, give our free time to answer the questions of the users. Because I do not work for Microsoft under any title that I'm unable to confirm whether your problem is a Windows problem or not.

As a suggestion I'd be inclined to uninstall the software and then reinstall it in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP to see if that does work. All you have to do is start Vista uninstall the printer/scanner software and then restart Vista again. Once you are at the level of the Vista desktop, insert the printer/Scanner Software CD/DVD into your DVD drive and hold down the 'Shift' key like CD/DVD towers (this will prevent the autorun from running). Once the CD/DVD stops turning, open Windows Explorer and click on your CD/DVD drive to view the files on the CD/DVD. Locate the file "setup" and click right on it. In the drop-down menu, select Properties. In the Properties window, click the Compatibility tab. Instead of the article of Compatibility Mode is activated (tick) the checkbox "run this program in compatibility mode for" then click on the arrow to the right of the box below this option and select Windows XP (service pack 2) from the drop-down. Finally click OK.

Now click (or double click depending on how your mouse is in place) on the Setup file to begin the installation of the printer/scanner and see if it will install in XP compatibility mode. You have a program installed that can open pdf files, for example, Adobe Reader, Adobe Pro, Foxit Reader, etc. ?

Assuming that you do - because you were able to open pdf files previously - maybe the file association is damaged.

Right click on a pdf file, then choose open with > choose program

If you see your pdf reader app that is listed, select it.  Otherwise, click on the Browse button and find the exe file and click 'open '.  For example, the exe for Adobe Reader is named AcroRd32.exe andtypically will be in

    C:\Program NN.n\Reader of Adobe

After selecting the appropriate exe file, you should achieve the selection window.  Don't forget to check the box "Always use the program selected for this type of file", and then click OK.

    Pcwizard thanks for the reply.

I thought about it myself. Just had to install the latest package of linux drivers and was then just update the package XSane. Once done, I was able to open XSane and scan documents. Works without any problem.

Also you can check which version of the driver is required for the printer from this link.

Windows 10 / printer HP 5530 visible, ping-measure but "installing network without success" - workaround

    (FYI)

Problem: Windows 10 laptop (previously Windows 7) would not install HP 5530 wireless printer using the HP installation software.

(Other portable, always running Windows 7, install the same software of the printer without a problem.) All computers had until then used a HP 5510 without problem).

The printer can be "seen" by phone, via a router, in the dialogues of installation software, but 'installation network without success' has been reported: in other words, after identification and selection of the printer on the network, install "spun" for several minutes until the outage has been reported. (Installation by USB connection was successful, but still later without success in wireless network installation).

Printer able ping go laptop all the time, and test page was printed wireless through the web page HTTP printer (e.g. 192.168.1.x) parameters.

Firewall has been abandoned and latest drivers from the web site HP downloaded - however, Setup still not at the same point each time.

Solution: In Windows 10, start menu: -.

Printer Settings\Devices\Add or Scanner\Printer I want to is not listed\Add by the TCP/IP address [use the IP address identified from the display or printing settings printer] - check the box for pilot chosen automatically by Windows.

(In other words, add the printer as a printer without using HP installation software at all.)

Result: the printer is available (after restart) wireless on the laptop - seemingly normal and as a shared printer - wireless printing was possible.

    (Solved) (Apparently)

    Hi Marcus25,

Sorry to inform you, the Scanjet 5370c is not supported on Windows 7:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03403550

The driver listed on the HP site is intended for a different model (Scanjet 5590) and seems to be wrongly pposted for your scanner.

I reported this problem to get this fixed...

Altthough it is not officially supported, try the of VueScan 3rd party application which seems to support your scanner wthout you had to install the drivers on the computer:

    Hey there,

One thing before you start, this solution won't work for (its of course HP) inkjet printers
Try the next step, I believe that this will help you overcome the problem.
    1. start by dissconnecting the USB cable. (If its connecetd wireleslly, go to the next step)
2 remove the printer driver of "devices and printer" which is located in Control Panel.
    3. download the complete solution for your printer.
    4. extract the contents of the file. (Using winrar or any other method, you know)
5 open the "Utils" folder and choose in the "x 64"(ou le «x32"encas vous utilisez ce type de système) subfolder, you should be able to locate a file called 'RemovePreInstalledDrivers' > once you open this file black screen opens, wait for it to close, then move to the next step.". "
    6. go to the main folder where you have already extracted the software and right click on the file x 64.msi (name is most likely your printer model), then choose the Option "repair". > Subsequently, you will be asked of preformed a reboot. (Incase you will get a Messege saying "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed" simply double-click the file instead)
    7. after rebooting, the head in the drive Local C/ProgramFiles/HP/PrinterModelFolder/bin/USBSetupL uncher (or DeviceSetupLuncher if his wirellesly connected) and double click it.
8 follow the steps for you and connect the USB cable when you are invited to (if the wireless sound just choose the wireless option)

Who should add the scanner to your imaging devices.

  • deskjet4580: scan

I was able to scan via an icon on my laptop and now I get a message that says "add a scanner". Comcast has just installed a new modem/router, do not know if this cause.

    Hey @jonboy44,

Welcome to the Forum from HP Support.

I understand that you are unable to scan to PC with printer all-in-one HP Deskjet F4580 from the upgrade of your home network equipment.  I want to help you with this.  I have some tips that might help you to restore the functionality of your scan.

Change your modem/router would have taken your printer in offline mode (assuming that it was connected via radio before). Therefore, you will need to reconnect to the wireless network to address your configuration.  I have a HP article which presents two methods for wireless configuration that you can try to restore your connectivity:

Click here and follow the steps in the topic Windows 8.  If you are able to connect successfully, you may be able to click the icon for the printer on your desktop and select "Connect a new printer" to reestablish your connection with the printer software.  At worst, if this approach fails, but you are certain of the the printer on your wireless network, you can uninstall the printer and click here to reinstall.

Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. If I helped you to solve the problem, feel free to give me a virtual h.o.t. by clicking the "Thumbs Up" icon below and by clicking to accept this solution.

Thanks for posting in the Forum from HP Support.  Have a great day!
