adding instead a PE2900 raid storage

I just get a server that had gone dead take with her a SATA drives mirrored two 750 GB that it was provided.

I'm now start from a simple SAS 146 GB the PERC5i Controller Raid 0 configuration, which I intend to mirror in a few weeks when comes a corresponding drive.  I don't plan to run beyond Raid 1 (mirroring).

I want to increase the storage capacity by adding the good 750 GB SATA drive in the system, but regardless of that I put the in the Bay, the 750 GB drive does not appear as additional storage device. I have reloaded Server 2008 on the readers of 146 and 750 and can boot from either a mounted in a storage array, subject that I import foreign start-up configuration upward. However, I prefer to start from the most recent 146 GB drive and use the cotyledon to the storage.

How can I add the 750Go and / or other additional hard drives to this platform?

OldDogGuy,

You will need to create another Raid 0 with the 750 GB drive, just as you did with the 146 GB drive. Then assign it in the BONES.

With 146 GB disk, when you get a new inserted, simply select Reconfigure from the menu drop-down and select the original 146 GB drive. Which will cause a new mirror to the original and then convert a Raid 1.

Let me know if it helps.

  • PERC H330 and Raid 5, try adding another SATA drive raid 5 array

    Hi all

I have one server PowerEdge T330 with 8 slots of disc and have currently 3 SATA drives running a raid 5 configuration.  I have a virtual disk configured for Raid (must).

The operating system recognizes the disk and is able to use the resources...

My desire is to add another hard drive to the table (hard disks of the same size, same brand, etc.) with 4 disks without losing any data.

I looked in the settings of the iDrac and the only adjustment was to add the new disk as a global hot spare or a hot spare dedicated to the virtual drive.

I also looked in the BIOS and do not see a way to add the new drive.

Does anyone know how to increase capacity?  I can blow the virtual drive if necessary and start over without problem.  I intend to gradually accomplish this Act until adding 8 disks. (5 times).

    Help!

    Hello.

Management controllers RAID and tables is not made in the BIOS iDRAC or systems. For the management of the RAID (virtual disks) arrays, you have OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA). If not installed, see the link: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=TK61C once installed, go to-> Storage->-> H330 PERC controllers-> virtual disk--> sub tasks available-> select reconfigure and run-> then check a box to add the fourth disk on the next page. Follow the prompts and allows you to extend your range of RAID 5.

There is no solution, it is what it is.  However we should not prevent you to make bootable.  Search here and on Google for RMPrepUSB.  It is a utility that can make the bootable disc.

  • General questions NAS, multiple drives, RAID storage

I have a Linksys EA6350 at home that is currently configured with a passport of aging WD for networked storage. It is time for replacement and I'd rather use the current and the replacement of the disks simultaneously on the network.  My first question is if Linksys firmeware accepts disks placed on a USB splitter. If possible, I am also curious to know if the firmware can manage several partitions on a disk.

If one or both are possible, so I wonder if I can set up a RAID 1 mirror without hardware RAID configuration. I know that it's possible on a desktop computer, but the general consensus among the computer saavy, it's that it would not fine performer. However, I'm not very concerned about time to read/write for what I want to store in RAID; I care to ensure that the data is never lost.

In my head, I'm thinking the installation program looks like this:

Dispatcher USB-> Disk 1-> partition RAID 500 GB
    |                        |
    V                      V
Disc 2 500 GB partition mirroring disk 2

  • Aurora R4 - adding an SSD with RAID 0 HHDs

I have a R4 Aurora with stock HHDs in a RAID 0 configuration.  I'm not ready to replace the HHDs as MBR disks, but I want to add the SSD in an empty Bay.  After reading the forum several messages a BIOS setting must be in for the SSD AHCI mode to be recognized (?)  What about my existing disks RAID?

    Andrew

    Hey morkunas,.

If you changed the BIOS to AHCI, you would effectively disable the RAID of the two hard drives. Once completed, you could then install Windows for the SSD, where Windows pourrait see the file system of the DESCENT, but you would not be able to start it until you changed the BIOS to RAID. But in doing so, you will not start your SSD.

Having never tried it I can't swear that it wouldn't work - but you could in theory, depending on your RAID controller, install the SSD as a storage drive. In this way, that the RAID would not try to link the SSD to what either which means that you can use it as a blank storage device. Which could be beneficial to you, you can create symbolic links to any games that you move to get the advantage of fast SSD ultra charge time.

But there is no guarantee on this. And, if by chance, your RAID is set to 0 + 1 without your knowledge, it strives to transform your SSD in a parity drive. In other words, a backup drive for if & when the RAID had to be reconstructed. You can look in your BIOS to see what level of RAID.

Most of the people don't generally mess around with this kind of thing until they are ready to start their system or do a significant hardware upgrade.

  • Can I use instead of AHCI RAID

Hi, I have a dell inspiron 530. In the bios there is no option AHCI. Since the RAID AHCI she does that mean I can use the same?

PS: I have 2 hard drives (no RAID). I tried to boot into windows on the first hard drive, but then it froze on startup a BSOD flashed for a few milliseconds and then he resatrted.

    Thank you.

    Hi John,.

Thanks for posting your question on the Forum of the Microsoft community.

    1. have you tried to change the boot drive SATA mode?
2 are you able to boot your computer?

    3. What is the error code that you get when getting BSOD?

I understand you have two independent hard drives connected to the controller. If you are able to start your computer successfully, here is an article that can help you change AHCI RAID.
Error message occurs after you change the mode of the boot drive SATA

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

If you can not start at all, I suggest trying the following methods and check if they are useful.

    Method 1
    Please follow the underlying steps:

Step 1. Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse.

Step 2. I would like to start your computer in last known good configuration.

If method 1 does not work, go to method 2.

    Method 2
Step 1: Try to start your system in a State of services necessary to the operation and a minimal set of drivers, active Mode without failure.
Start your computer in safe mode

Step 2: If the system works fine in safe mode, try to clean the system startup:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: See "how to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

If method 2 does not work, go to method 3.

    Method 3
As you cannot start your computer at all, I suggest to run a startup repair to repair the damaged boot system files and attempt to start in normal mode. See the section: how to use Startup Repair in the following link.
    Startup Repair: frequently asked questions

If this does not help, try to start from an installation disc of Windows 7 to the Windows recovery environment mode and then try to run the Startup Repair tool and check if you are able to start normally.

  • RAID / storage rebuild... asking to clarify for all ;)

    Hi all

I replaced the 2 Seagate drives out of my publishing video system (CS5) that has been previously configured as below and think it's the right time for clarification on some points that I never really solved after many hours of research, in order to understand where the various elements must be stored or installed on a system of six-HDD , or if someone in my situation should completely rethink the configuration of the system.

It is in the following configuration not original intent, but because of the addition of hard drives over time...

Intel RST/matrix RAID via ASUS P6T Deluxe V2...

    2 x 1 TB Seagate hard drives w / 3 Partitions

C: OS & core programs in Raid1 Partition of 100 GB Matrix,

D: registered Adobe project files, etc. in 250GB RAID0 Parition

E: rendered output, etc. in the remaining Partition of RAID0 GBs

    2 x 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3

F: scratch your files over 2 GB RAID0

    2 x 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3

    Original video G: / storage on 2GB RAID0

    System hardware:

    ASUS P6T Deluxe V2

    I7 980

2 x 1 TB Seagate 7200 RPM hard drives (move on)

    4 x 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200 RPM hard drives

1 x Asus GTX570 Direct CU II (Exchange 2 locations, such as the 3-slot card don't snap sure due to sata port locations, etc.)

1 x GTX275 for video output extra (not really tried again 3 monitors)

    24GB Corsair Vengeance RAM

    power 900W

    Cooler Master HAF case

Various external HDD for periodic backup via eSATA

    Vista, order Windows 7 Pro

    (1) assuming that the material remains 6 x 7200 RPM hard disks on a P6T Deluxe V2 (kind of want to stay on that, since just got an expensive processor lga1366), which has only 6 available SATA ports...

    (a) I'm even true that the best mounting configuration for six hard drives 3 x RAID0 arrays?

    b) if so, how can I distribute the following items in the 3 tables - operating system, programs, Adobe, Scratch projects, outputs, original media? I could never understand forums whose elements are the most important separate from each other on different disks.

    (2) or should I really change the system to allow more than 6 hard drives at this point?

    (a) now really unclear question... If I need to change, if it was an internal RAID controller card with more ports, or must it be an external configuration?

If I really need extended equipment, I'm ok with things like the purchase of hard "faster" drives (10 k or other) to replace the Seagates 2 if it is a strong recommendation, spend a little on the best RAID gear if it is actually useful, but...

    1. impossible to pass a thousand for the improve only slightly

2 need a configuration that someone of experience and moderate computer skills can install and maintain.

In particular, the question of how to divide the different items / tasks on existing disks is likely to be of interest to many readers.  It is talked about a lot, but I'm really not clear on how best to distribute them and in what priority if you do not have tables for each task.

    Thanks to anyone interested!

P.S. NOTICE to other fans w / my RAID setup... tries to install a great graphics card and somehow reset the BIOS in the process are what stimulated my current possible re - build.  I didn't know it has reset, start continues to find Intel RST does not, renowned readers and of course RAID0s inaccessible.  Then will come to also install RAID in invalid BIOS at the time that.  Since I'm important stuff backed up and I wanted to change on some readers anyway, don't bother to try to restore the RAID and get it back, but you could find yourself in the worst form.  Supposed to BE if you change the RAID setting before starting the operating system, your tables and Intel RST will work normally even after resetting the bios.

    Do not partition disks.

    C: 1 x 1 TB for OS & programs

    D: 2 x 1 TB raid0 for projects & media

E: 2 x 1 TB raid0 to the pagefile, hides media and previews

    F: 1 x 1 TB for exports.

  • PE2900 RAID 1 GRADIENT, NEED HELP TO REBUILD PHYSICAL DRIVE SHOWS FOREIGN

My server is a Dell PowerEdge 2900 with Raid 1, using 2-1 TB HDD.

I had a problem with the server and needed to its cleaning of windows install. I need to work on files reinstall everything and did not have a large enough to back up car. For lack of time, I couldn't wait until I get a big enough drive, to remedy this I removed a HARD drive while the system was down and restarted the server. The BIOS has complained about a foreign configuration and made me enter the PERC 5 / i (CTRL + R) facility, I deleted the foreign config and restarted. Everything started fine. I reinstalled windows, got a backup copy of my data and cleaned with DISKPART second HARD drive using another computer.
Now I want to reinsert the second HDD and rebuild the table. When I go in manage open it shows my virtual disk as degraded, and when I'm going to show the physical disks, it shows me the physical disk 0:0:0 as foreign and physical disk 0:0:1 as being online.
Disk 0:0:0 is the drive I want to add to the table.
How can I add it without losing my data on the physical disk 0:0:1?

    Can someone help me please?

    Thank you!

    Hello.

Since the meta-data on physical disk D 0:0:0 is different from the controller, it is necessary to clear the foreign configuration on disk physical said without affecting the data on the physical disk 0:0:1. Subsequently, it could drag in a "READY" state how to assign as a global hot spare to rebuild.

Let me know how it goes.

  • Problem when adding 2nd host in Iscsi storage shared

    Hello people.

I'll try to explain exactly my problem even if it is a little difficult liitle!

First of all, we are talking about a test environment that is installed in my house just for learning purposes.

I am facing a strange my iscsi storage behavior when trying to join a second host to storage vmotion purposes. I was using an Esx host (3.5) for a while and I had no problem with the iscsi storage (I use an old pc with freenas on it). I must say that I got lucky, also, local sata controllers have been recognized so I could test the Storage Vmotion between two storages (Commons and iscsi) with success in this host.

To continue to learn, I decided to also buy another pc to test Ha cluster, Vmotion, DRS. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the same material and who as well as sata controllers do not to be recognized, so I used a disk ata for OS and my intention was to use for the volume vmfs3 iscsi storage.

In the first host esx I used, you can see 3 storage adapters: vmhba32 vmhba33& gt; Controllers local sata,34vmhba& gt; initiator iscsi software

In the second esx host, you can see only the vmhba32- & gt; the iSCSI Software initiator.

The first time everything worked ok, which means that I have attached iscsi storage in host the2nd by rescaning the vmhba and I was able to browse the datstore and see the contents of it, but it lasted only 10 minutes. Then suddenly I lost the connection to common storage to both hosts, I could see in the section maps of storage, but when I pressed update in the storage section, nothing happened and even when I tried to add it using the add storage I received the message usual "cannot read the partition table information. After being a little more careful I noticed that in the section storage cards, I could see the same vmhba34 in the two hosts with the same alias to the host of the first, and here's the strangest part, the situation I described above has been changing from time to time, which means that a few times I have seen the vmhba32 in both hosts and after some time vmhba34 in both hosts! (crazy)

I took the big decision after playing with the partition table, without effect to use the ' vmkfstool - C vmfs3 s ' _free "_ / vmfs/devices/disks/vmhba32: 0:0:1" command

in the second host, of course, I lost all data, but now with a simple refresh in this host, I was able to see the storage.

    Unfortunately, I still couldn't ' 1 host storage access and I published the same command "vmkfstool - C vmfs3 s"free"" / vmfs/devices/disks/vmhba34: 0:0:1 ""

with only the change you see in bold. Accordingly, it was to see the storage after a refresh with free (1) name.

Now he is currently working for 2 days with this way not recommended and what I would be really grateful if could help me clarify what exactly is happening.

My main problem is that I am in front of a very unstable environment that might as well have the same unexpected problem in the future and I can't reformat always storage and loss of all virtual machines

I tried to describe the best I could to this strange situation!

Thank you for your time and any help or advice would be most welcome!

I was looking for a similar solution. Seems to be the only iSCSI host is possible on freeNas. See here: http://apps.sourceforge.net/phpbb/freenas/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=403&sid=f4881e6e25e752e6ee8c6b0eae5887d3

The only solution for learning seems to be to install the server ESX or ESXi in a virtual machine and then use iSCSI. Vm Instructions to complete the installation here (you must all PDFs 6) http://knowledge.xtravirt.com/white-papers/esx-3x.html or you can replace the opnefiler by the SUN's VM iSCSI. http://www.sun.com/storage/disk_systems/unified_storage/resources.jsp , you must use the vmware converter to convert the SUN's virtual to be used in ESX machine found this in a forum... but can not find more URL. I have not tried myself but, looking for just because you want to get a similar setup.
