  I think my problem is solved since my D110a maintained a wireless network connectivity (wakes when called) simply by changing the settings of the printer. As indicated, the 5740 doesn't give me that option (most of the HP of Don't). Since my first post, I decided to take a chance that HP sent this long issue in their last line of printers, so I replaced the unit with an Officejet 3830 using the printer settings and the default router. So far so good. No problem at all.

  In the end, my conclusion is that the 5740, as many of it's predecessors, was undesirable.
