Blank screen every 40 seconds windows xp

I have Windows xp sp3, all updates etc. Everything works fine, except every 40 seconds the screen goes white about 2 to 4 seconds. It does not affect the operation of the computer, but it is irritating. Anyone got any ideas? Would be very grateful. Thank you. Mervynb

Looks like a hardware problem, of youre display adapter...

1st, open administrative tools in the Control Panel, the event viewer.

Scroll through, & chk for warnings & errors, R.click on one, select

Properties, see what happens... In addition, chk all pc connections

monitor with the pc off, open the tower case, & chk taking

connection between the card graphics and motherboard. You can even remove it,

carefully, take an eraser pencil #2 & clean the pins on the map. This command removes

corrosion & other stuff that accumulates over time. Remember, a minute or two by

side, the gold plating is not tested...

Another, make sure the software/drivers for the card are up-to-date.

addition, go to run, type: DXDIAG run Direct X tests...

After that I connect to Windows 7, I hear 3 rapid beeps every 30 seconds. It does not go far, i.e. it is not a time of presence and repeat indefinitely. I ran Diagnostics through bios and see anything there (no hardware problems). If you cut the speakers it disappears is not an internal part, like the motherboard. Hi Mark,

I appreciate the efforts to try to solve the problem. Please write us with the following details.

What is the brand and model of your computer?

As you mentioned that you do not receive this sound, after turning off the speakers, it seems to be a problem caused by any process running in the background. I suggest you to open Task Manager and check the process running in the background. If you find any suspicious process just try to put an end to this process.

You can also try to check the cause to the clean boot.  To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Screen refreshes every few seconds

Computer model: HP Pavilion e040us 17

    Product: EOJ89UA #ABA

    Windows 8 (not 8.1)

My wife left her cell open and when she came back, she was asleep.  She tried it to wake up (hit the wrong key), got frustrated and held down the power button to turn off.  She doesn't think that updates have been applied since the screen was black

Now, once it is started, it can use one of the applications 'tiled' who do not use the desktop computer.  Once the office is open, the screen refreshes every few seconds.  The entire desktop goes blue, the desktop icons and background image disappear, and everything disappears from the system tray.  The system tray starts to rebuilds with the battery indicator, indicator of network, "speaker" icon, date & time, then all the rest of the system tray is back with the office (background image and all the icons).  In about 1 or 2 seconds, the cycle starts all over again.  I left the laptop that works thinking that something just needs to work to stand, but two hours later, it was still there.

If I press the windows key enough times, he swaps ends up back in the tile view, and then he begins to paint it too.  The screen goes blue and then everything comes back.

While this is the case, the only way to get the stop menu is ctrl + alt + delete.  Moving the mouse to the bottom right of the screen to bring up the menu of the settings does not work because the screen refreshes faster that you can click on the settings button.

I restart the computer in safe mode and it didn't happen.

I'm stumpped and really need help!

    Mark

    Hi, Mark.
I don't know if this will help, but for me, I used system refresh to restore my laptop to factory settings (but keep my documents) and the problem seemed to go away. Partially, I think it was because I was running Classic Shell for Windows 8.0 rather my 8.1 - Although may not be the problem, refresh the laptop seemed to work!

  • T400 screen "blinking" every 5 seconds

Hello. I have a T400 running Windows 7. Last week, I had a problem with the screen flashes (like an eye by opening and closing) every 5 seconds or so - it starts after I have he awakened from his sleep. I had installed new updates, so I went back to a prior restore point was going on. It seemed OK. Then I reinstalled a few updates, and now he's back. It seems to be related to the refresh rate. It flashes when the refresh rate is at 60. If I change it to 50, the flashing disappears.

Updates should display Lenovo driver - could that have caused this?

    Any ideas would be welcome.

  • My screen keeps dimming every few seconds, even if I changed the settings and saved!

Hi I have Windows 7 and I have passed to the control panel and changed the settings for power. I got my high-performance switch mode, changed the settings so that it only fades every 10 minutes and saved. However, my computer keeps dimming of the screen at very low about every 7 seconds! I have to make it brighter, but it fades again! Sometimes it fades it right after she cheer up! I even tried to make a personalized plan, but it did not work. What can I do to make the screen stop all seconds dimming! I've tried everything!

You are using a laptop computer monitor or a desktop monitor / external?  This is much like a monitor that has its own management food or, as with many TVs, the ability to change the brightness in response to changes in ambient light levels.

    I think I have a hardware problem with the Satellite PSKDLA - 0C800R L850.

It is a laptop I bougth to my wife but he has ended up with my stepson of Uni studies. While he had it the hard drive is not one of his friends replaced. twelve months later, he advised it was gone blackscreen and G'nort would turn out.

I finally got hold of it again and managed to drain the power remaining and replaced the CMOS battery remove a strip of RAM and it starts fine. I've proved a faulty stick so that left aside. Then I realized that there was a problem with the screen and the mouse

. The screen would brighten up (wash out) then Flash and stabilize. First thought was video chip or the driver.
At the same time would lock the mouse. When the screen clears the mouse would again.
Happening every three or four seconds but now every two seconds. It is more difficult to do something.

Have reloaded many drivers, but I think it is material, but not sure if it needs a motherboard or processor.
    Can you advise?

I forgot to mention that the image of the screen is slightly down from senior management.
Tere is a few millimeters of black with a white line on the top edge of the image.
This white line seems to come on and off with the locked mouse synchronization and the screen. This is another indication of the problem or the backlight?

    Hello

I got my toshiba TV to the end of 2009 and have not had any problems until recently.

While watching my Virgin + box and while on the game console, the screen flickers offshore for a fraction of a second every few seconds.

At first I thought it was me flashing, it happens that fast until someone else noticed it as well.
This does not happen all by using the TV for a monitor for my PC.

Anyone know what the problem is and if I am able to fix it or not?

I bought the TV RicherSOunds with a guarantee 5 years so if it is something bad I can resume and they will fix it or give me a new free.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

If the warranty is still valid, I recommend you contact the technician (point of service) in your country to control the TV.

All you can do is check some settings and connection cable, but that's it.
Troubleshooting TV is limited and in most cases, these issues need an audit by experts.

    Option 1:

As the computer works fine in safe mode, the next step to try is start the computer to the boot to check what software is conflicting.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

IV. click the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box and then click Disable all.

    v. click OK.

VI. When you are prompted, click on restart.

VII. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Check what third-party software is conflicting with the program and disable it or uninstall.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

My computer is running "Windows XP stop critique.wav" sound every 10 seconds for the last 8 days.  Window XP SP3.  I spent 1-1/2 hours will dell workstation support and 1-1/2 hours with my computer work (shot as a favor to my personal computer) and they find nothing, MacAfee installed, updated several full scan virus.  A ran Malwarebyte s multiple crawls - nothing.  Kaspersky lab - nothing.  Computer work ran a vrius start-up detector and nothing.  No error log is generated.  And two technicians stop various folders in the Task Manager and NOTHING he did stop.  I was sent a disc of reinstalling XP SP3 Dell and I did a repair XP complete with no fix. Technician COMPUTER checked a bunch of stuff and thought it was "related to a driver."  Regardless of what is the cause, how do I find the problem and fix it.   Thank you

    @GarySibley:

Thanks for the comments, and I'm happy that you found.  Although I'm not surprised that an msiInstaller error could have caused a "critical stop" but I never thought that he would deliver the error never seconds.

    @JudsonWelcher:

I suggest you also check your event viewer to find errors msiinstaller.  I've seen other posts where a sound "critical stop" appears to be linked to these errors (but like I said above, not continuous repetitions of the error).

There is no easy way that I know to track this sort of thing.  Before you start the method of 'Clean boot' or start using the process monitor, open the sound control panel applet and scroll down to check that Windows XP stop critique.wav has not been assigned to certain events in addition (or instead of) a real stop critical Windows.
