citrix xp vista remote desktop win3k.sys
OK, here's the question. I have a user who works at home remotely using windows vista on wireless home edition. It connects to the host computer at work which is Windows XP sp3 using RDP. It connects first using a vpn that is RDP, Citrix, it connects to this private network then its windows xp box. everything worked fine for a while and now this appears a BSOD on Windows xp box which is an Win3k.sys error. I know that vista has problems with rdp in xp, I've tried the fix that is there does not work. Help, please. Thank you

I use VPN to connect to the server - works fine. Remote Desktop to my IP address of the host keeps coming back with "invalid credentials" and invites you with password entry. I know that I entered the password correctly. Any help out there
I finally got to work. I changed my password on my computer Windows 7 (host). When you enter the user ID in Remote Desktop, I had to use user domain\username. It worked finally.

I have a laptop Windows Vista Home Premium that is trying to connect to my Windows 7 desktop. It worked fine when my desktop computer was Windows XP and I was running the same laptop Vista Windows 7, I am now.
What has changed? I have a modem/router to two sons and has not changed the settings. I just tried opening port 3389 and cutting the firewall of Windows with the same results.
I have a VPN and the game works fine.
Get remote desktop dialog box for opening and saving in and I know that it is configured correctly, because when I take my Vista laptop to the office the RD connection works fine and I can see and I work on my Windows 7 desktop computer, so the problem is either something on my home network or with my ISP - using DSL - ideas?
Thank you

Connection problems with remote desktop connection
Good somehow I try to connect to my remote friends computer and it has a windows 7 and I already configured on his computer. I already forwarded Ports on his computer, his static IP, added exception to the firewall, including Norton Internet Security Firewall 2013, so his remote desktop connection is good. But my computer is a Windows Vista Home Premium, but somehow, it wont let me connect it keeps telling in a dialog box with this error:
Say this 'Remote Desktop disconnected"
"Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or the owner of the remote computer. But it's is not my friends computer problem, its my computer, I would have never been able to use Remote Desktop on my computer, I have no idea why. I also configured with my router Embarq EQ 660 - R in the NAT rule SUA Port 3389 with my routers IP. But somewhere in my firewall, it doesn't let me use the same TCP 3389 port, it won't let me enter any number of his strange. Well, I have the screen shot a photo so I'll attach the image so you can see what I mean. But I already have my friends computer sent a static router IP configured on him and on his router port everything worked fine, but the problem is mine, don't let me not the port before my router only if I use the NAT option and entering into the rule of SUA, in which I made with port 3389 , and my default gateway static IP. I also added an exception to my Windows Firewall and also my Norton Internet Security firewall, 2013 including the application, but still somehow, it does not work. On my router, if I try to put the port range: 3389 to 3389. Added the name of Service like RDP, Type of Service: TCP. Also, I made my public computer static IP a little go. A how's my friends computer it works
Thanks I would really appreciate it

Remote Desktop connection abandons the connection permanently
When I connect to my office with Remote Desktop constantly gives up the connection in a few minutes. I have Windows Vista. I heard there were problems with Vista and this program. Someone has the answer on how to fix this? I can connect with my Wired PC without any problem. Thank you!
Hi Drifter5,
Welcome to Windows Vista answers Forums!
You can try the following steps and check if you can solve the problem.
Here are a few possible causes of connection problems:
The port of remote desktop can be blocked by a firewall.
If you are using Windows Firewall, follow these steps:
1. open the Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking Windows Firewall.
2. click allow a program through Windows Firewall. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Select the Remote Desktop check box.
If you are using another firewall, make sure that the port (usually port 3389) remote desktop is open.
Remote connections might not be enabled on the remote computer. To resolve this problem:
4. on the remote computer, click the Start button, right-click computerand then click Properties.
5. in the left pane, click remote settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
6. under Remote Desktop, click allow the connection of computers running any version of remote desktop or allow the connection of computers running with NLA authentication remote desktop.
7. click on OK.

I recently updated my computer to Windows 7 Pro. I also have a laptop running Vista Pro. I have configured remote desktop on my Windows 7 machine to allow my laptop to access and it works fine when I work the two machines on the same Linksys WRT54 router, here at my small business. I have configured my router to allow communications to port 3389, but as soon as I take my computer laptop home, I can't access my desktop computer. I have to configure my home router as well? It's a new Motorola ADSL router/modem and no place in the configuration to allow port forwarding or port address. Help!
Hello
We are unable to access a computer from another computer if they are in another network by using remote desktop.
If they are in the same network, use the following links as reference:

Remote Desktop is designed to help users to solve their computer problems?
Is it a good tool to use to help other users with computers there are problems?
Hello
Remote Desktop connection is a technology that allows you to sit in front of a computer (sometimes called the client computer) and connect to a remote computer (called the host computer) in a different location. For example, you can connect your computer to work from your home computer and have access to all of your programs, files, and network resources as if you were in front of your computer at work. You can leave programs running at work and then, when you get back, you can see the desktop of your computer work displayed on your computer at home, with the same programs running.
Remote assistance:
When you encounter a computer problem, you sometimes can help someone else. You can use Windows Remote Assistance to invite someone to connect to your computer and help you, even if that person isn't nearby. (Make sure you only ask someone that you trust, because the other person will have access to your files and personal information.) Once connected, the other person can view your computer screen and chat with you everything you see. With your permission, your helper can use his mouse and keyboard to control your computer and show you how to solve a problem. You can also help someone else the same way. This technology is called Remote Assistance. For more information, see these articles:

Can I access my Internet at home using remote desktop?
I want to download a file on my home computer and transfer it to my place, because I'm unable to download the file to my current place of residence. Using Remote Desktop, can I access my Internet home of that remote computer to download a file on my computer at home? Or would I have access to my computer at home, but still using the Internet on my remote site?
You would use the internet connection of your computer at home. There is more information here:

Remote Desktop does not list my printer
Windows Vista, Remote Desktop and I check printers to the local resources for my connection, registered and then connected.
When I try to print from the remote computer, only "XPS document writer" is listed for my computer that I am typing, but not the regular printer, I can print from locally without problem.
Is there anything else I can do to print from the remote computer?
Ludi
So that the remote session to be able to use your printer, the printer driver must be installed on the server machine or your local printer will not be displayed on the server. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

I have a new windows 7 pro system which has been configured to host a remote desktop connection. There are 1 user account (active admin), the port number was changed from 3389 and I think that the firewall is disabled (it's Norton Internet Security and I tried to completely disable the firewall).
When I established a remote connection from another computer on the same subnet, the client asks for login/password and the connection ends and goes directly to the screen of the user.
This subnet has an internet connection via a firewall or router. It has been configured to redirect incoming connections for the custom to the host port number.
When I establish a remote connection from outside through the firewall I am invited to login/password, but the Welcome screen appears and the only options are administrator and other users. Administrator is blocked for the account restrictions and using other users to type the login and the password does not work - it still fails on bad login/password.
I've seen this problem described in other forums, but have not seen a solution - anyone got one?
Thank you
