Configuration of disks Z820

Hello

There is a question that has been bothering me since I got my Z820: How do you get the readers in the 4 sleds to be managed by the C600 Intel instead of the LSI SAS 2308?

I'm in the same boat a lot with SSD, SSD experience less-than-stellar write performance (830 Samsung and Micron m4 discs).  I seem not to be able to get out the MS driver, is there a way to force the rest of Intel somehow?

Thanks in advance for the help.

http://h30094.www3.HP.com/product.asp?SKU=3990721

That's what we used on the Z800, will work with Z820, both in support of optical Bay, know not the 4-in-one, seems interesting if arrived that we used with power cable and sata power molex material as well.

SSDS is supported on all Z-workstations. Check the platform Quickspecs for individual workstation for confirmation.

If a Solid State Drive HP is purchased as an Option after walking, the kit includes a bracket for use in bays for standard 3.5 "HARD drives. If it is for use in an optical Bay, one of the following mounting brackets is necessary.

  • Optical Bay HDD mounting support-BLK-for WKS HP, HP part number NQ099AA
  • HP 2.5 HDD 2-in-1 optical Bay support, HP part number FX615AA
  • HP 4-in-1 carrier SFF HDD with external access (Option kit only for Z620 and Z820, B8K60AA), fits in the ODD Bay

    Hi Experts,

If you use network storage, configure ASM disks with external redundancy groups. Don't use groups of Oracle ASM failure. Oracle failure groups consume cycles additional CPU and can run in unpredictable ways after suffering from a disk failure. When you use external redundancy, disk failure are transparent to the database and do consume no additional database CPU cycle, because it is discharged on storage processors.

    This does not mean

  • Configuration of disk for CS4

    Hi all

Looking for some recommendations on the configuration of disk for CS4. Some QuickSpecs. XP Pro 64 bit, Intel i7 extreme, 12 GB of DDR3 RAM and 8 Velociraptor 300 GB disks.

I originally it was configured as a single array (RAID 5 with online backup) with two partitions (one for the OS and program files) and one for the storage and the file Page on the table and zero.  I wasn't getting very good performance so I decided to clean up and reconfigure.

I'd be better off with 2 tables? An array of 0(600 GB) RAID 2 disks for OS, Program Files and Scratch space. and the second table of 6 drives in RAID 5 (1.3 to) for storage?

Or maybe even go with a single hard drive for OS and Program Files (300 GB).  One drive for Scratch space (300 GB).  and then the 6 disks in RAID 5 for storage?

Also, where would be the best loacation for the pagefile?

Thanks in advance for the help

    Keep things simple:

    1. go to Win7-64

2 C disc for OS & programs, only Velociraptor

3 D for the swap file disk, and all the rest, 7 x Velociraptor in a raid5 configuration

  • RD350 configure RAID10 disk

We have RD350 with 4xSAS 2 TB HDD, RAID500 (LSI SAS 9240-8i) card and I can't set it up 4 disks as RAID10 with full capacity.

I tried capacity 1500 GB and also it is not.

My practice (with the last FW - BIOS, RAID, TSM, PSU)

The BIOS > Startup Manager > adapters and UEFI > LSI MegaRAID... > configuration management > create Virtual Drive.

Select RAID10, select all 4 disks good unconfigured (in Bay 1) and after save configuration it wil display:

To create virtual drives for the selected RAID level, more lasting and an equal number of readers in each span is needed. Click OK to go back and change.

    WHY?

I have only 1 Bay and 4 disks selected in 1 Span.

    (RAID5 is not accessible)

    Help, please!

Try to create the first Bay with only 2 drives and then create a different scale with the other 2 drives.

  • Configuration of disk space

When you configure the Source Volumes, if 'Min size' is selected, the size of the disk will grow as needed?

    Thank you

No, it isn't "thin provision '...

Basically, if convert you drive 30 GBs with only 6Gbs in use, Converter offers you option to create disk virtual 7GBs (or what it will be like minimum size)...  You can extend it in the future as a virtual disk unless it is your Windows system drive, but I would attribute as much space as you need right now...

Thin is another story and has nothing to do with the size of the disc min during the conversion.

  • Configuration of disk - size and speed?

According to the recommendations of the forum, I want to use raid0 on board for the swap file, media Cache because the rate of break-up for small media Cache files is best on the raid0. Because I need 2 with readers, how big and fast Gbps is usually sufficient?

Also, regarding recommended isolated disks for export (and cut projects I think)... should I go as fast and important that I can afford? Or more rather than faster depending on budget, so more room for storage?

    C: [1 x 300 GB 10 K rpm Disk] OS, programs - CURRENT

    Thanks, NAN

Logical, but I would make sure that the export drive is the same make and model as those of your raid5.

RAID5 using only the built-in controller is very slow, so you can expand the raid 5 disks to increase his speed, and then you can use your drive to export this and get an external drive as export destination. First see if the speed edge it is good enough for your application, you decide to go on the road to raid extended or not.

  • Best disk for my nice new laptop Asus ROG Configuration

    Hey everybody!

I just bought an ASUS ROG G752VT-GC046D (German Web site link), which has a 1 to 7200 RPM HARD drive. The computer has two empty 2280 m2 slots for disks SSD NVMe. I wonder what is the best configuration of disk while keeping my low costs? I do 1080 p video editing in Premiere Pro (30 FPS and 60 fps) and do a job after effects. I hope that the 4K video editing will be possible on this machine. But 4K is not a must, I would like to keep in mind when selecting disks.

    Data sheet:

    I7-6700HQ

    GTX 970M 3 GB GDDR

    16 GB DDR4 (2 of 4)

    FHD LED 17.3 "display

Maniboard: Intel CM236 (Skylake PCH - H) (im not sure at 100%, I found this on another website for G752VT)

    3 x USB 3

    1 x USB 3.1 / Thunderbolt

1000 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

2 empty slots for disks SSD NVMe M.2

Discs cannot be configured in RAID

I have a 250 GB SSD 850 EVO in my old computer I can use (currently I use only this disk to edit). Speed reading and writing od 540 MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively

    Configuration 1

    1 drive: operating system, programs, Pagefile - 128 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €65

    2 disc: media, projects - 1 TB 7200 RPM 2.5 "HARD disc

    3 disc: overview, media Cache, exports: 256 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €145

250 GB SSD 2.5 "or sold laying around EVO 850

    Investment = €210

    Configuration 2

    1 drive: operating system, programs, Pagefile - 128 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €65

2 disc: media, projects - 250 GB EVO 850 SSD 2.5 "(slower than PM951) SATA connectors"

    3 disc: overview, media Cache, exports: 256 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €145

    4 disc: backups & old projects - 1 TB 7200 RPM 2.5 "HARD disc

    Investment = 210€

I read the Page Tweakers on the configuration of the hard drive, but I don't know how to apply the knowledge practically while keeping in mind that I am not a super pro user with a huge budget but rather someone who wants to get better, but has a limited budget.

What are your thoughts on my Configurations, do you recommend improvements? Is the Configuration 2 the best bang for the buck (or euro)?

    Looking forward to your answers.

    Best,

    Gorazd

If you already have the evo 250 GB and you want to use into the laptop

    Disc 1-250 GB samsung 850 evo = os/apps/pagefile/db cache

    Disc 2-512 GB samsung 950 pro = project/media/previews

Disc 3-1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive = enclosure external usb for backups

So just buy a disc, the samsung 950 pro and a box external usb 3 for the 1 TB hard drive.

If you want to keep the internal 1 TB drive, then I think you have to go with two readers of m2. a pm951 of 128 GB or a little better sm951 for os/apps can work.

Skylake was almost a flop for the gain in performance over the last generation cpu. If new portable computers skylake are good for features such as Thunderbolt, which is good for the expansion or upgrades, including egpu.

  • Disk configuration optimal (I know I know)

Hi, I've been through a lot of forum posts and read the guide to tweak for the suggested disk configuration. I understand that everyone is different and would just check my plan is optimal for what I have.

    Currently my system configuration:

    CPU: I7 - 4790 LGA 1150 K

    MB: MSI X 97

    RAM: 32GB

VIDEO: GTX 980 (have 2 but will sell such that there seems to be no advantage without CPU high range possibly)

HD1: MX550 Crucial 256 GB or 512 GB (purchase intent)

    HD2: Samsung 840 Pro 128GB

    HD3: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB

    HD4: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB

    HD5: WD 2 TB Black

    HD6: WD Black 1 TB

Based on the guide to tweak for the number of discs that I have, I should their RAID, but the problem is that they are not similar type/size and the LGA 1150 may be limited to an external RAID solution? In addition, software RAID can be problematic too?

I'm especially start with video editing and it's fun, but my attempts on my laptop low power gave me a long wait times/UN-viewable reading/crashes, so why I am trying to build a somewhat appropriate system. Currently, I'm only GoPro 2.7 K and raw footage of 1080 p and I hope perhaps soaking with images 4 K of a Panasonic GH4 (once I bought the camera hah) if my system takes care of everything. I don't plan to have my final exports longer than 5 minutes at the moment. Given current HW, I intend to configure the disks as follows:

Operating system and the programs -> HD1: MX550 Crucial 256 GB or 512 GB (not really play the games, but can try some, I know they say to clean your machine of editing)

Media cache and previews -> HD3: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB (size will be sufficient for what I intend to treat?)

Project files -> HD4: 850 Pro 256 GB Samsung (once the project is finished, transfer to HD5: WD Black 2 TB)

Media Source files -> HD4: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB (as a direct import from the camera to work with SSD speed, then once the project is finished, transfer everything to HD5: WD Black 2 TB)

Export -> HD2: Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB (as a direct export of rendering, and then transfer the file to HD5: WD Black 2 TB)

Backup of the HD1 and some media -> HD6: WD Black 1 TB

My thought to work on the SSD is first to get SSD speed, and then transfer them to the bigger HARD drive for backup, and the finished product. Would put HD3: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB and HD4: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB in RAID SW 0 be better for the Cache/previews of media and project files and then assign HD5: WD Black 2 TB for the Source of media files?

I'm seeing what I can get with what I have to work with the best configuration, and if there is a significant performance gain by changing the configuration a bit by adding another drive, or so, I consider that also. Thank you very much for your time and help in advance!

Wow, interesting and expensive record collection!

Do not buy the essential! I like critical readers, but you have a great opportunity to buy a 850 Pro always for one SSD RAID 0 array. My suggestion:

Boot/OS programs / = 128 GB Pro 840 - a bit small, but delete put into hibernation and it will do just fine

Data drive (and Windows cache) = 3 x 256 GB 850 Pro RAID array 0 (Intel ports - SATA III would be great, but even if your MB only SATA II RAID Intel ports very well happen)

You can use two of WD for storage, backups, etc.

In Adobe, set the 'other programs' (not Adobe) 6 GB memory if you have a lot of setting cached RAM for Windows disk.

Many will tell you that RAID'ing SSD is ridiculous, exaggerated, any faster, must have readers separated for reads/writes, blah, blah, blah, etc..

They are impressive and are really nice with Adobe Premiere Pro.

    Jim

PS - the 'old' PC, I am writing this email on has a range 0 5 SSD RAID x assembled 3 years ago, and its still humming along pretty well--fast and never miss a beat. My new build has a x 8 matrix RAID 0 on it - Yes, that's an exaggeration, but it must always be well big enough and fast enough for my needs of data for the next 3 years at least

  • Configurable on portable disk configuration

    Hello.

I m ordering a new laptop (configurable). I´ll use first and AE to editing 1080 p video and photography.

It will be an i7 with 16 GB.

I was thinking something like this for the configuration of disk (4 available sata3 ports):

-samsung evo 250 GB for the operating system.

-Two 1 TB 7200 RPM 32 MB in raid 0 for the media mode.

-samsung pro 128 GB for export and cache.

Wouldn't be better for a laptop have SSD?

I have several 7200 rpm disks in my old office, I plan connect the usb3.0 port, so I have plenty of space here for some file store.

    Would you recommend something like:

-samsung evo 250 GB for the operating system.

-samsung pro 128 GB for export and cache.

-Can I put two ssd more for the media

I read here in the forum that samsung evo is not a good choice when first writing. In view of this, what is your opinion on the installer discs?

    Thanks for help.

.. . If you have 4 SATA III ports use samsung SSD Pro ONLY for the first two discs: one for the OS, programs and file ONLY... Good 256Go. Second: for 'disk cache'... especially good for aEffets of use, as well as the body.

SO... you have to go ALL THE WAY! In the last two berries, put TWO 950 GB Crucial M500s during a RAID 0 for all media, and the rest.

NOW, make sure your laptop comes with at LEAST 32 GB memory system AND a superior NVidia GPU with at LEAST 4 GB of video memory... Now yer Talkin' '!

OR, just get the same laptop Bill Gehrke got at a great price... a renovated... Asus you can find in the posts here, or on site PPBM 7... Good luck!!

  • Yet another question of disk configuration

I know that this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I am confused on some points and need advice on disk configuration. I just ordered a laptop that has a 256 gb msata ssd + two other SSD of 256 MB and a removable 7200 RPM 750 GB drive in the optical drive slot. So I will, indeed, have four disks (3-256 gb SSD & 1-7200 RPM HD). I know that the general concepts between dedicating different disks for OS / programs, scratch disk, make media player, &, but after reading suggestions from Adobe, manual first and forums, I'm not clear on the fixed assets can be placed on removable drive and what assets I can return the drive 7200 RPM to optimize the Assembly & rendering speed for the global configuration of disk? First manuals I've read everything it say to not place scratch them files on a removable disk, & of course I use the removable drive to OS & programs - that render leaves or media for 7200 RPM disk. Which would be best?

With our specialized needs is change above your recommendations somehow?

    Not mine.

By the way, you can just make the PP sequence to ensure smooth playback, and then use his Cinema display mode (CTRL + "") to go full screen without GUI.  The space bar will always start and stop playback.  Connect the computer to the projector and speakers, and you're golden.

  • Disk full error but USB drive has enough free space

I am trying to copy a file to a USB flash drive even if the drive is empty when I try to copy the file, I get an error message telling me that the disk is full.  The file is 8GB and the drive is 32 GB, so there is plenty of room.  How to fix this?

Most of the USB flash drives are formatted with the FAT32 file system.  This file system cannot store any single file larger than 4 GB. You will need to reformat the NTFS-formatted flash drive to store an 8 GByte file.  (Attention: save all the files on the drive before reformatting).

One way to get into disk management is:

    Hi Reta,

    ·         The drive appears like 250 GB even if it's a terabyte?

    ·         Is the remaining 750Go showing as unallocated disk space?

If this is the case, you can refer to this article on how to use disk management in Windows XP:
