connection to a local CD/DVD drive freezes

Hello!

I have seen this problem several times in the last days: trying to connect my local DVD drive via vSphere Client with a virtual machine, the CD/DVD button says 'connection... '. "but never actually finalizes the process. I think that yesterday I was able to solve this problem by turning off the virtual machine, remove the device configuration and adding a new. Now, even if I delete the device, the power on the virtual machine (i.e. the CD/DVD button is grayed out because there is no device), turning off the virtual computer and add a new drive, and then turn it on again, the reader is always displayed as "connecting...". »

Is this a known issue? And how to get out of this situation?

As this thread is always updated from time to time, I would like to answer my own question:

The problem occurs, when there is more than one instance of vSphere Client running at the same time. I do it often, as I have more than one Server vCenter to manage. Even if all customers of vSphere are closed, check that no process failed or suspended "VpxClient.exe" are around. Kill, if necessary. Restart a single new vSphere Client, and remote media will be connected.

From vSphere Client as an administrator is not necessary. The fact that it is running under a different user name is also probably the reason why that works.

To make sure that it is not a question etc authorisation, try to disable UAC, no S/W protection and start VMware Workstation by using "Run as Administrator".

  • Using the local CD/DVD drive... or even an ISO each

    Hi all

I know that this question has been posted many times on this website, but I have tried for 2 last day now with no luck!

I'm sure that when I have this upward and running, VMWARE is going to be an incredible product, but I am at the end of my home and have a feeling that M * soft VPc is preferable so far (dare I say!)

In any case, I installed VMWARE ESXI 3.5 on my HP DL360 who owns 2 mirrored disks.

I can use my office administration console, but cannot install my first virtual machine.  I tried to download a new ISO standard (downloaded from the site official license... windows 2003).  The cd player is definitely working: I deleted and added the cd drive in the vm administration console and pointed to the ISO image.  I also downloaded the floppy image and plugged into my floppy drive

If someone can give me a help on what I'm looking forward to get this working... I'll be the happiest person on the plant (well, probably not as happy as the recent winner of the euro)

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

    Thank you

I'm sure that when I have this upward and running, VMWARE is going to be an incredible product, but I am at the end of my home and have a feeling that M * soft VPc is preferable so far (dare I say!)

First of all one that threatens this group with a remark that even remotely implies MS VPc is a better product, will get not only less respect, but basically ignored.  That, in a self implies your level of knowledge about the software or even technology in general.  Simply because you tried at some point and could do work, does not mean it is a better product, that means that you were lucky.

And since your CD / DVD works since you obviously installed ESX, the only remaining problem is you probably don't activate the drive at startup.  There is a setting of the virtual machine that clearly allows the CD / DVD and allows starting, you don't mention if you tried.

You may be frustrated or still perplexed as to something like a simple framework, but as everyone has used without any problem, there must be missing a step somewhere.

And this ISO image that you have, you're SURE it's an ISO well known, because if you just downloaded and it does not test first, we don't even know if you have the right tools to work with.

  • Satellite A660 - cannot install Win 7 using the external DVD drive

    Hello!

Not so long I asked help to reinstall win 7 on my laptop.
The only option was actually in the restoration of order dvd what I did. Today, it has arrived.

Problem is, or was that some of the CD or the DVD couldn't be read for some reason any.

Now it won't boot from the cd, it says faulty hard drives.

So what I did I have pluged my detached external DVD drive and it started from that.

But just after a few seconds, she told me to '1 support recovery' and open the drive in the laptop. Tried to insert the disc - nothing, like its not inserted, tried to disable computers portable cd - nothing please help

    Hello

You should first check if the external CD/DVD drive is recognized as a boot device.
Connect the external USB CD/DVD drive and switch on the device.
    Press F12.

Now, you will see all bootable devices. Generally, the CD/DVD USB drive should appear if his support. If it does not appear, you will not be able to boot from the external USB CD/DVD drive.

In this case I recommend you to create a bootable USB flash memory and install Windows 7 from USB flash memory

    Hello

    > * 1 *-I want to use in the car for playing DVDs in the back seat. Can I use the Toshiba external dvd drive?

No, you can't attach an external CD/DVD drive to the AC100.
The USB port supports the external USB HDD (FAT12/16/32/exFAT) and a memory flash USB (FAT12/16/32/exFAT) for copying data.

    > * 2-* is there a car charging/adapter plug or anything like that?
Yes, google for cigarette lighter Thrive AT100. Otherwise, you can order part comatibel of ASP in your country.

    > * 3 *-my stereo bluetooth, USB and ipod has access to-what options there are to store & playing music on the Tablet via these

Take a look in the Android market and search of HiFi Android app.
But as far as I know if you want to stream music from tablet to sorrows, both must be connected to the same network.

    > * 4 *-wifi is possible? I already connected it to a wireless modem; would need a modem separated in the car?
    AT100 supports LAN wireless

  • Satellite A660 - do not find external DVD drive

Hey guys. Newbie displaying in total despair of and needing help! I posted in other forums without success. I bought a Samsung SH-D162D DVD drive in a USB enclosure to connect to my Satellite A660 via USB.

I can't get Windows 7 to find! When I plug in the USB cable, the ball comes up to say that it has been installed (sometimes), I can see it on for about 1 or 2 minutes then he falls. It is not listed in my hardware or anything. Its not found in disk management or my devices, so it is not a case to change the drive letter - I can't find the drive to change. I also tried to find upper and lower settings in regedit. Could not find them so couldn't remove them as suggested in other posts of this nature.

It is set to master, the IDE connector and power connectors are very good. Its got to be a cause of problem of Windows 7 it comes very briefly. In the minute or 2 sound, I can't do anything with it. It crashes right although it will open and close. I've google it and can't find anything. Mainly of registry issues, but they did not help.

Ive also connected to another laptop with XP and had no problems so I know the DVD Rom works very well and all the cables are ok. Ive tried all 4 USB ports on my laptop and also disabled all the parameters of energy. All with no luck. And I also all Windows 7 update.

This is exactly what happens to the power out of the Cabinet.

    1. I connect the USB cord then turn on the enclosure.
2 - I quickly click Start, and I can see the DVD Rom E player beside my computer laptop dvd rom.
3 - the green bar above starts to fill to the top, from left to right and gets to half way then suddenly disappears icon of DVD Rom and makes the green bar.
    4. He then flashes up in computers laptops DVD Rom icon with a player of Local E drive, but only for a fraction of a second.
    5. sometimes a balloon comes up saying peripheral installation, then the installed device successfully... but not every time.

And that's all. I'm at a total loss and the cant work, so any help is really appreciated!

    Hi Smee,

So if you have already connected the external hard drive on another computer, and it worked correctly, it seems to be a driver or compatibility between your external DVD drive problem and and your Satellite A660

It will be connected to the port USB then you tried to remove all the USB ports on the Device Manager? After that, you must restart your computer and the USB ports will be recognized automatically from the Device Manager. In addition, I would also try updating the chipset driver. New version, which you can download on the official website of Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Have you also tested other devices on your A660 if they work properly?

    Hello mike salinas.

    1. you have any third-party burning software installed on your computer?

    2. have you checked if the external CD drive works on another computer?

I suggest that you check if your internal CD-ROM drive is detected in the BIOS.

Usually, you must press a key (for example, F2, F12, DEL, ESC) or a key combination whenever you turn on your computer, but before I get to the BIOS to start Windows. Check to see if there is the CD/DVD drive in the BIOS.

You can see the article for more information about the BIOS:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

Regarding the external CD/DVD drive, I suggest you see if it works on another computer.

  • IDE DVD drive is not showing in BIOS, but projection in computer

    Hello

I recently installed a new motherboard (Asus P5LD2 REV 2.01). ALMOST everything works fine - Windows 7 is installed and giving great performances. However, the IDE DVD drive does not work very well. It is connected to the primary EIDE channel on the motherboard and will NOT show in the main screen of the BIOS. However, it will show in the BIOS priority boot device, analysis of FDI and the F8 boot Menu. It also shows in COMPUTER and disk management. The IDE DVD Player loads and plays the discs very well! The main problem with it shows is not in the BIOS is this: after the computer, the computer has been turned off for a certain period of time, when I try to turn it on it restarts several times until the "Starting Windows" stage lights. The only way to solve this problem is by entering and leaving the BIOS, or entering the F8 boot menu and selecting HARD - which always does not restart. In addition, when the computer is turned off for a long period of time, sometimes I have no display or beep MESSAGE until I have turn works a few times, or press the reset button. The hard drive shows in the BIOS and is connected to the PRI_IDE (blue) port. I tried two CD-ROM drives, to replace the DVD IDE drive, and they're just right in the computer do not give any display or beep POST. The hard drive light continues flashing in the same schema, when an IDE CD drive is connected. Without a connected optical drive, nothing works. Y at - there no fix for the problem with the DVD IDE drive not no projection in the main screen of BIOS with random restart problem? Event Viewer displays an error of power core for every time that happened.

    Thank you very much!

    Brandon.

    My computer specs:

    Motherboard - Asus P5LD2 Rev 2.01.
-Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHZ Socket 775

-Maxtor 6Y080L0 80 GB IDE Hard Drive
-LG Super Multi IDE DVD Writer Drive GH22NP20 (not recognized by the BIOS, as mentioned above).

    Hi Brandon,.

Certainly, this seems to be a problem with the hardware. Contact the manufacturer of your computer or a local technician for assistance on this issue.

  • Cannot get new virtual machine to boot from the local CD/DVD

Done a lot of research but have no solution. Connected to my esx Server 3.5 Vista with customer infrastructure 2.5, created a new machine and then it booted up and logged the cd/dvd drive of client (vista machine).

If I try to use Passthrough, I get a VM error saying I need to enable the legacy mode. If I change the emulation drive (do not see an option of legacy mode, all), the machine does not take into account my drive and trying to perform a PXE boot.

Any ideas how I can get this to work? He has in the past of this machine, but now I'm just bashing my head against the wall.

I really found the "client" machine of work particular during the installation of an operating system.  What you might consider if you are in a position makes one. ISO and upload file to local storage or space on your LUN and connecting this way that will greatly increase the speed of installation.

  • DVD player freezes when audio editing

My application DVD player recently started crashing every time that trying to change the volume of the silent era. The laptop is a MacBook 12 "retina 2015, using an external DVD drive that has worked very well for a year. Have tried on many different DVDs and they all load fine, DVD player auto-commence, but they all open with no sound. If I try to increase the volume of 0 on the slider, the player crashes. If I try to access audio via the menu 'Options' menu does load not for Audio and audio disk configuration is similarly frozen to corruption. Other audio works fine on the machine. Any idea on what could be the problem? Thank you.

    Greetings bhan001,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It seems you want to play a dvd on the MacBook connected via an external dvd drive. Given that the application crashes using each dvd that you tried it may be a problem with the application itself. There are a few things that we can try to isolate and solve the problem.  I would recommend you read these articles, starting in safe mode disables the 3rd party applications that may interfere with the DVD player application. If the problem persists, we can try a new user to test to see if it's a matter of profile or the scale of the system.
