DVD/CD drive not reading CD or DVD inserted, clues?

Hello. I hope someone can help as this was produced during the week.

The DVD/CD drive not working properly. Whenever I insert a DVD or a CD of my laptop starts apparently read (humming noise), but my laptop does not detect the disc, or open my computer shows the disc. I tried to update the driver, while watching helps out that the window has provided and that you have installed all the updates for my laptop without success.

Does anyone have advice I can try that can solve this problem, because it becomes an impediment, thanks in advance for any help, you can be able to give.

When you open 'Computer', you can at least the CD\DVD himself player? Have you tried another disc?
Also, go to start Manager select menu\ click device right computer\ properties\ in the upper left part of the window
In Device Manager, look at your DVD Rom drive, open it and double click on the driver. It doesn't seem to work correctly? Thank you, Jeremy M - Support Engineer

  • "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD"

Well, I'm going to install a Windows XP operating system. It is a upgrade disk. However, when I tried, I get error message saying:

"Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD", and it gives me a list of other operating systems.
This is a new computer, so it is not any previous operating system.
The manual says I can do a fresh install, but it allows me, I get this error message. Any ideas?

    Hi Branden,

It is quite possible that the CD you are trying to use is corrupted. Wipe the disc with a clean cloth.

In addition, it may be due to the fact that you are using a CD to upgrade and you are trying to do a clean install.

    ·         You have an earlier version of Windows CD?

If so, you need to first install the previous version and then upgrade to Windows XP.

On the Toshiba driver page, you will find also 2 Firmware updates.
Check which drive you unit and try to update the firmware.
Also try installing the DVD ram driver.

  • CD/DVD Drive not reading CD, need help to diagnose.

My CD player stopped suddenly reading CD. It has been a little flawed for some time now, but never had any problems with the playback of the media.

    Features: CPU - Q6600 OC @2.8, motherboard - Asus P5KC (Intel P35), GPU - Palit GTX460 Sonic, RAM - Samsung DDR2 @ stock 800 mhz, hard drive - TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS - H653F ATA Device

Here's a quick list of nonlethal problems so far:

    • Loudly spinning upwards at the start, causing sometimes windows to take more time to start (breaks on a black screen before the loading bar appears), while the player rotation.
    • When open immediatately closes.
    • Very slow to install programs on CD (compared to the old disk)

As a referance, is a replacement of CD that came with the pc drive. I fried the on-board network and the IDE port on my motherboard while installing a new CPU fan (located at the bottom of the motherboard), I bought this as a replacement a year ago and I pluged in a SATA 2 slot.

I recently installed a new graphics card and had to reorganize some cables so that it, I checked all the cables to make sure they are in place, but its possible that the connected cables are still loose, some futher information that I'll write below may help you to understand if it is possible.

The main problem I have is with it not reading CD, but the above can be useful for diagnostic purposes.

Basically the drive is detected by Device Manager and apparently "works", drivers are installed correctly and it reacts in OS for opening/closing of orders from status bar.

He just thinks it is still empty.

The problem started after a windows update that may or may not be a link the ancestral of the problem. I do not do drive but have used about three days before the startup problem.

    Any help is very appreciated

    Hi burple,.

Looks like the CD player is a failure.

The computer can be set to boot from this drive first, and he is suspended because the drive does not respond properly.

I suggest to try the drive in another computer or another drive in this computer if possible.

  • CD drive not reading some discs

I had this problem of market for some time.  Sometimes my CD player can not read some discs.  For example, I have a set of six discs of music, and it will not read discs of second and sixth in the game.  I put them in the drive, and nothing happens.  Not even an error message.  These are new records.

Any suggestions?  It is a Matshita UJDA755yDVD/CDRW in my IBM Thinkpad.

  • CD drive not reading CD in Windows Vista__

    Hello

I am running Windows Vista Home Edition 32-bit on an HP laptop. My CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive has been working perfectly until a few weeks ago. Now, it does not read the CD. The CD-ROM is built into the laptop (not an external drive) and Vista provided with the laptop (meaning I didn't upgraded Windows anytime since my purchase).

-By car the E: and F: appear under my computer
-When I insert a CD in the drive, the light flickers and I hear the disc turns, but AutoPlay doesn't open as he usually does. I try to open it manually via Windows Explorer, the disc starts to spin and an empty window appears briefly before closing automatically. I get an error message saying that there is a problem with the drive.
-Probably Windows can recognize that a CD is inserted, because when it is empty I always get the "Please insert a CD in drive E: /" message opposed to don't get no error message at all.

I looked at these topics below on the question and the search for my problem through google without result.

http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/314060 "your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/939052 "when you insert a CD or a DVD, Windows Vista may not recognize the disc"

-Registry delete "Lower filters" (there was no 'Upper filters' record on my system) did nothing.
-Uninstall the drive E: and F: didn't work as well.
-J' also uninstalled the 'third party programs"same Roxio so maybe it's not relevant, and my CD player still does nothing.

(I rebooted after the three tasks above)

I am at a loss here. What is most likely faulty hardware at this point?

Thanks a lot for the answers!

  • Help with CD drive not reading CD!

My wife recently purchased an iPod, and when we tried to rip CD, CD said he could not 'read the media' on the CD... and after having tried with 2-3 different CD I got the same result.  I updated the drivers from the CD-ROM and used "FixIt" Microsoft application and still no dice!  If there is any futher information, please let me know... but please HELP!

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as it is often the total process
    which solves the problem.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry
entries that do not fix the resolution of problems and those who "could" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - for the CD/DVD drive of course subkeys as
There will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask involved specific keys as well as the
    Parameters.

  • WD external drive not read

I suspect that my external hard drive has been accidentally deleted. 'Éléments' shows more now, it's to fix on my computer or any PC in the office. Is there a way to retrieve files from the WD external hard drive? Help, please. Your help is very appreciated. God bless you.

    Hello

A few freeware for you to try. First is EaseUS Partition Master, if the disc is readable, this application will be able to provide information. Download here: http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Free-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html?tag=mncol;1 .

The second application is the recovery of the AidFile software, it may be able to recover the files through 'reconstruction' (its worth a try). Download here: http://www.aidfile.com/product.htm (be sure to select the free version).

If none of the applications cannot retrieve files, they are probably lost with the exception of a data recovery service, which can physically go 'inside' the hard drive and remove files in this way. These services cost, whether or not its worth the cost that only you can decide.

Let me know if this helps you.

    Kind regards

    Hello

AFAIK this unit has a DVD Super Multi drive and it must use media suite:
    CD-ROM (Read) CD - R(read/write) CD - RW(read/write) DVD-ROM (read)
    DVD-R(Read/Write) DVD - RW(read/write) DVD + DVD + R(read/write) RW(read/write) DVD - RAM(read/write)

In addition, these speeds are available:
    Maximum speed CD-ROM(24x:read) CD-R(24x:write) CD-RW(10x:write) DVD-ROM(8x:read)
    DVD-R(8x:Write) DVD - RW(4x:write) DVD + DVD + R(8x:write) RW(4x:write) DVD - RAM(3x:write)

  • Windows 8 DVD ROM not reading discs

Yesterday I installed a few games on Steam, I was playing Saints Row the third while he was busy installing and bit after that I had to restart my PC because it was originally the trolling game. At the next startup, my laptop then got stuck on the login screen, where I put in my password/PIN and it would just sit there and do nothing. This kept going until that of course I had to go in safe mode and use that 'Everything clear, but keep your files' option windows 8 a, and am now able to log in and access my files.

Nut, now I am faced with a new problem, my DVD ROM will not read and disk I insert in there. It was working fine until I deleted everything, and now I can't use it.

I tried to use the tool of diagnosis provided by Microsoft for this problem, but it does not work. I should also mention the possibility of editing the registry does not work either.

My laptop is reasonably elderly, ten months or so, but I doubt that it is only a hardware problem because the DVD ROM shows on my computer and device manager says it works very well.

Are there other solutions for this or should I just take it back to the shop?

    Hi Taonga,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to know that the DVD ROM is not working now. I appreciate your efforts toward this problem. It could be a software or a hardware problem.

    1. What is the brand and model of your computer?
    2. What diagnostic tool do you run?
    3. Did you try it with any other DVD?

You can try all the steps in the below link, it may be helpful when fixing the issue.

  • Optical drive will not read anything else professional films

So, I am owner of a 2012 MacBook Pro 13 ". The computer comes with Intel Core i7 processor and has the maximum of 8 GB of Ram. The problem is that the optical drive that is built into the computer will read nothing else done professionally movies. It can read disks of movies like the Lord of the rings and Wargames, to name a few, I tested, but it will not read any DVD-R disc or to a CD. I tried the CDs as Metallica music... And Justice for all after try in another computer and a radio and get good results when it just won't play on my Mac.

I have had this problem in the past , but at the time the optical drive not read anything at all. This occurred in early December and I fixed it on 20 December. To solve the problem, I went to the Apple Store and they can Reset the P - RAM. The Apple guy he told me to make sure to disable every night. I did this because it's what I did in the past. After that, I was able to play any CD or DVD and burn them. I also tested it every two weeks by playing a DVD in there to check that it still works. But I discovered that it was broken again when tried to insert a DVD-R to burn things on it and the computer only it spun and then ejected it. I've known this current problem since around mid-April.

I did some research on it and what I have read I believe that I must buy a cleaning disc and run it in my optical drive to clean the lens of the eye out, but I don't understand how I am able to read some disks and not others if that is the problem.

Can I take it again in the Apple Store and get it looked like or should I buy a cleaning disc and run it through my optical drive, and then decide what to do next? I'm in no hurry to get this problem fixed because my guarantee does not expire until the end of July this year.

I don't know why you want to put some words in BOLD and a few words in normal font. Frankly I find it a bit annoying when someone does something like that, but oh well... what you could do is to try a cleaning disc (the one with little brushes this topic) or a good breath of air compressed. In addition, some brands of DVD - R Virgin do not work as well as others. I found verbatim to be good, maybe maxell or Taiyo Yuden. Your mileage may vary...

If this still does not work, feel free to zap the pram x 2-3) and do an smc reset. Shut down the computer, plug power adapter, hold down the left shift, control, option, and button works / stop for about 45 seconds, let go of all of them, then press the power button to restart. If none of this works, then by all means to make a genius bar appointment and bring it in to your local Apple store. Hey, if you have an extended warranty, might as well use it, right?

    Good luck
