EliteBook 840 D1F44AV: Legal re-installation of Windows / COA

Hello

Having a sticker of COA that reads HP Windows 7 Pro OA to the back of the laptop means that the laptop comes with legal pre-installed Windows, if so can I use any windows media to reinstall as long as it's the same version, or should I use a HP recovery DVDs? that is important if the Windows I'm trying to install is 32-bit or 64-bit? I ask because I have an Elitebook 840 that has what I think a windows no legitimate Pro 7 32bits and there is no recovery partition.

Thank you

The presence of a Win7 COA sticker means that the PC has been preinstalled at the factory with a version of Win7 OEM HP.

You cannot use any version of Win7 to replace that, because only an OEM version will activate using the product key that came with your PC.

IF you are using an OEM HP's version, it will activate, but HP is more for older PC Win7 recovery media.  Instead, you must check this site to see if they still carry the media for your PC: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

From the point of view of activation, it doesn't matter if it's 32-bit or 64-bit, because they use the same product key, but if you are installing a different version, you may not be able to find the HP drivers for it, as HP mainly provides 64-bit computers.

Good luck

    Someone had the same problem?

    Hello:

Intel has removed support for USB 2.0 chipset chipset Skylake.

This means that only USB or normal DVD installs windows 7 will not work.

Microsoft Windows 7 ISO not the USB 3.0 drivers natives either.

Therefore, add USB 3.0 drivers in Windows ISO.    Intel has on it.  They have a utility that does all the work for you.

Run the utility and point your support Installation USB and windows 7 above should install.

    Hi, Nick.

The problem with your laptop is Skylake chipset and lack of USB3 drivers in your windows installation media.

Skylake chipset does not have USB2 support until after you have installed the chipset driver.

The solution to your dilemma is to run this tool on a PC with W8.1 or W10.

There is a readme instruction link (found in the section release notes), which will provide you with the information that needed to get the W7 to install on your PC.

  • EliteBook 840 G1 and 2013 UltraSlim Dock with dual only monitors Windows 8.1 no second monitor

My company recently purchased HP EliteBook 840 G1 laptops with discrete graphics.  Alongside this, we use the Dock UltraSlim 2013 with dual monitors HP LV2311 connected using HP DisplayPort / DVI adapters.

8.1 Windows displays only a single monitor, that the second monitor is not available.  I can try to cover both monitors for a resolution fo 3840 x 1080, but when I try to do just the display reverts to the poster in mirror.

I can use the DisplayPort on the side of my laptop and just a single DisplayPort on the platform and the OS will see both monitors.

Please advise, it is unnecessary to have a dock with double DisplayPorts which cannot display two monitors with them.

Yes the problem really existed with the original HP driver and that Microsoft installs by default.  HP released a newer driver for 8.1.

  • EliteBook 840 G3: Find the license key of Windows 10 for the new computer laptop

My company recently purchased 2 HP Elitebook 840 of the G3 that come with Windows 10 Pro. I did a clean install with a customized image of Windows 10 Pro, but I get an error of activation. Where can I find the license key for our new computers?

Once more, the license IS installed on the PC - that it is embedded in the motherboard UEFI firmware - but as I've said several times now, it is ONLY for the HP OEM of Win10 which was preinstalled version.

OK, so try this utility: http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/2577-showkey.html

But don't be surprised if it does not work with the version of Win10 that you have installed.

  • EliteBook 840 G2: Elitebook after Windows 10 Upgrade keys does not

    Hi on board,

I'm a 840 Elitebook brand new last week with Win7 and directly upgraded to Win10 64-bit yesterday. It works although until now unless there is a big thing, some keys (FN + F9 for example) are not executed. You know, those little keys most of us use a lot to adjust the brightness or volume.

In my case, there is the problem with FN + F8, F9 and F10 (off mic, down screen brightness and the brightness of the screen to the top). Other keys work fine (for example, volume).

Someone at - it a specific link to a Win10 driver for this problem. I was looking on the half-hour but can't find anything (especially not the solution for Win8 proposed with the hot key driver). It might be my problem due to the fact that I'm not used to the new page from HP.

Any help is appreciated a lot,

    Hey there!

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I understand that you can not boot from USB.

Try a few steps recommended below.

    A. Click Start in the search box type CMD.

Right click on command prompt and select run as administrator

Run diskpart utility by typing diskpart in the command prompt window and press "Enter."

Find your USB drive disk number by typing disk list. We assume that the USB drive is 1.

    Run the following commands:

    Select disk 1

    clean

    create the primary partition

    Select partition 1

    assets

    format fs = NTFS

    Assign

    output

Now, we have prepared a USB drive. Let's make it bootable:

Insert the 32/64-bit installation disk in the Windows 7 DVD drive. Assume that it is D

    Go to D:\boot (cd d:\boot)

If your USB drive letter is "e" Please run bootsect/nt60 e:

Copy Windows 7 DVD multimedia content in root USB (etc. do not put in any folder) folder

You are now ready to install Windows 7 from a USB key!

    B. you said that you are unable to boot from a flash drive on 840 G2.

Turn on your computer, keep tapping key F10.

You will start in the BIOS change the inheritance of secure boot startup option.

Save the changes and exit the BIOS.

You should be able to boot from the flash player now.

Let me know how it goes!

    Have a great day!

  • HP Elitebook 840 G1: HP Elitebook 840 G1

I'm almost done with this thing.

I bought this HP EliteBook 840 G1 offshore from a friend who really takes care of his business. The laptop is dust free and looks just out the box. It is originally with Windows 7, but I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 because he was free and promised many new features. Everything was ok with the occasional bug (audio does not, fingerprint reader not to read), but a simple reboot usually covered the problem. Yesterday, I got set up a complicated Movie Maker project and type 2 separate school trials when the indicator wifi on the Elitebook turned orange and wouldn't connect to the wifi. I have saved my work and restarted my computer to find "error 3F0 - please install an operating system on your hard drive. So I had to wipe the drive, install Linux Ubuntu, and here I am with several weeks of work lost and an unpredictable old 2 year for laptop. Extensive BIOS tests show the hard drive and memory have "PAST".

I'll assume it of Windows 10 because the cell phone was fully functional on Windows 7 and works great on Linux Ubuntu 16.06. The reason why I write this is because I don't have Windows 7 to install on the device. I have the product key original on the bottom of the computer, but on the official Windows 7 download page software, he told me to contact HP support.

Any help with a .iso Windows 7 Professional x 64 link would be amazing. Again, I have my own product key and I can use Rufus to make it bootable from my USB. Thank you.

    Hello:

Microsoft has pulled all the links legal download of files Vista and W7 ISO unless you have a valid product key commercial complete to enter this Web site.

The product key on the bottom of your laptop is an OEM key, not a retail one.

If you live in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number to order a set of W7 Pro x 64 recovery disc.

Have the serial number of the PC handy to give to the customer service rep.

    1-800-334-5144

A set is expected to cost about $10 shipped by first class mail.

Yes, I know Rufus. How I said, I tried my USB in another laptop (a HP ENVY m4 laptop) and work very well. The difference is that the HP ENVY gave me the option to boot from USB and the EliteBook does not.

I realized that, since the post, you did.

I suggested RUFUS and EFI create setup of windows due to the startup problem, that you have with the Elitebook 840.

It may be just what you need for this particular laptop.

If you want this to work, then you must be flexible and willing to solve the problems.
