Ethernet card disappears after installing SP3 (T60 1951 - 45G)

Hello!

I updated my Windows XP with Service Pack 3 yesterday and now it seems my ethernet card has disappeared. i.e., it acts to it has been disabled in the BIOS (not appearing is not in Manager devices etc..). I tried entering BIOS, hide, start, restart, enable in the BIOS and new shoe but no luck. In another thread, I've seen update people complain of broken MS and a clean install could solve the problem.

My question is if someone else had the same experience and if it is solvable without a clean install of a simplified SP3.

My machine is a T60 1951 - 45G.

Everything else seems to work fine by the way, but I'll post if I find additional problems.

It is reported of SP3 break connectivity LAN/WAN on many laptops (TechNet) MSFN, MS forums. Not quite sure that the resolution is at this time and not quite certain that a new simplified installation of SP3 would be a fix for the problem. For some, SP3 disable WAN completely, while others issue with LAN. It seems that some drivers 'most recent' are the culprits.

Before doing something drastic, try reinstalling the Lenovo LAN drivers to see if that fix it, otherwise you may just have to go back to SP2 (nothing wrong with it on an existing machine, otherwise it works without problems). SP3, after all, is above all a cumulative (but with 'new') update, so really there is no big reason for updating a working and XP - SP2 system with this new service pack update.

On a side note, remember to check if installed KB941644 inadvertently as part of the update - it's a "fix" that is known to cause a number of problems of connectivity (insoluble).

You can see here (MS XP questions) to see if there is a solution to your problem.

Hope this clears up things

  • Ethernet card disappear once the cable is not connected

    Hello

I bought a HP Pavilion dm4-1164us laptop computer about a month ago.

I installed the working node Lock software for my MAC ID of the ethernet card in this laptop. When it's hanging of Ethernet cables, the software works very well.

Every time when the ethernet cable is plugged in no, or if I start the machine without ethernet connection, I can't run my software. I checked using command prompt and found that in this case, the ethernet card disappears.

A friend suggested to check whether it is because of the power saving mode to cut ethernet card when there is no ethernet connection. I went to the control panel to find the configuration of the ethernet card and disable the option "all the computer to turn off this device to save power". After the reboot, the software still does not work and the Ethernet card is not yet there. Although I expect to see its existence with the status of "disconnected."

Anyone familiar with this please help! Thank you very much.

  • Satellite U400-17V - Ethernet card disappeared

I have a problem with the Ethernet card. After replacing the hard drive, the new system was installed as well as all the drivers. Everything was OK. I use a Wifi connection for most, but a few days ago, I use cable and nothing happened. There is no Ethernet card in Device Manager.

I have downloaded the drivers and tried to install it but I do not know what Ethernet card on my computer! The driver is more than 20 different cards. So I tried to check on the Toshiba support site, but it says that it cannot find my computer by serial No.. ! There's also my role model isn't available (Inroom U400-17V)!

What can I do? Please help me.

If the card is not listed is maybe some unknown device listed in Device Manager?

I suspect it's one of the more recent cause I have Windows automatic updates is turned on. Thank you.

  • Black screen with mouse pointer count on reboot after installing SP3

I tried to install Service Pack 3 on a PC running XP Home Edition (new installation).

Although Microsoft Update has finished installing SP3 and the computer reboots, I get the XP installation screen base with the message "Please wait...". ", which disappears after a few seconds, leaving me with a black screen with only the mouse pointer.

The mouse pointer moves then the PC broke down, well that no matter how long I leave nothing happens.

I tried to uninstall SP3 and do it again (when I Uninstall SP3, Windows starts very well) and also uninstall SP3 as well as my Antivirus and try the installation again. But whenever I'm just left whit black screen.

Try to update with the custom option.  I had problems like this before.  Usually you are missing a driver or something of this kind that makes you hang.  To update while the custom option, with the exception of SP3.  Reboot several times the installation of updates with the "Custom" option  Once all updates have been installed except SP3, you can try SP3 and see what happens.  This usually takes care of it when I have the same problem. • DVD disappeared after upgrade SP3

After the SP3 update, on my Fujitsu-Siemens laptop dvd drive disappeared. I checked the drivers on the Fujitsu website - IE, that the drivers are not necessary.

The dvd device appears in the device with a correct name Manager, but a yellow sign (!) and the error code (10) - cannot start the device. Remove the device from the Manager of devices and reboot - led to recognize new hardware, but then do not install properly - even yellow (!) in Device Manager.

No help no reinstalled windows on the existing version from the original CD. The problem remains.

I googled the problem - and there is no "Lower/Upper Filter" entries in the registry.

Any ideas how to recover my dvd?

OK, it has finally worked! Amazing!

It seems the "UNINSTALL > restart it will rebuild the default driver stack" worked. But I needed to have aCD disc be removed ! the reader in order to correctly installed drivers! I tried this combination before, but with 'remove the DVD device in Device Manager. This time, it was 'Uninstall' drivers.

As mentioned earlier, that I also re-installed windows XP over the existing, by using the original CD that came with the laptop - which is probably back some SP3 changes.

Interestingly, this Office 2010, which required the unfortunate SP3 in first place - still works after this downgrade from Windows!

Next time, I will consider Open Office. More products not Microsoft. Hours and hours of downtime in the forums and experiences...

  • Vista theme disappeared after installing SP2

I updated vista 64 Service Pack 2 to allow the installation of ie9.  After installing sp2, my taskbar has been changed and the vista theme completely disappeared.  Areas of the screen are now much brighter, lighter or white (taskbar now is almost white and has the old style box 'Start').  I went in the 'appearance' of the control panel section and searched the vista theme - it's gone.  Installation of task bar that I had before the sp2 update is missing.  How can I get that back?  I tried to remove and reinstall sp2 and restore to earlier date and put it back - no matter what I do the screwed up theme with no option to get the old back.  Everything else works fine.  How to bring back the task of vista bar/color theme?  Is there a file I can load up?  I'm tired of wasting time of uninstallation/reinstallation.  We don't like also how change is so brilliant screen - and we do not find a way to change that either - there is no manual ocntrols and not to tarnish the brightness - no indication 'aid' does not provide - it says adjust buttons that do not exist.  How to bring back the vista theme?

It is important to disable programs such as Webroot before installing SP3. Personally, I prefer to install the stand-alone version of SP3 while I'm offline and after setting up a clean boot:

    Also, have a look here:

    Hello

Try to uninstall Sp3 via the recovery console.

Here are the steps that you must follow

    Thank you

    Thomas

    Link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249

Method 4: Use the Recovery Console

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) how to back up and restore the registry in Windows

If you cannot remove Windows XP SP3 by using one of the previous methods, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the Windows XP CD in the CD drive or in the DVD drive and restart your computer. When you receive the following message appears, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD:

Press any key to boot from CD

Note The computer must be configured to boot from the CD or the DVD player drive. For more information on how to configure your computer to start from the CD or the DVD player drive, refer to the documentation that came with your computer or contact the computer manufacturer. Alternatively, you can use a Windows XP boot disk. For more information, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

305595 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305595/) how to create a boot disk for an NTFS or FAT partition in Windows XP
  • When you receive the Welcome to Setup message, press R to start the Recovery Console.

Note Several options will be displayed on the screen.

  • Select the correct installation of Windows XP.

Note You must select a number before you press ENTER, or the computer will restart. Generally speaking, only the1: C:\Windows is available.

  • If you are prompted to type a password to admin, do. If you do not know the administrator password, press ENTER. (As a general rule, the password is empty.)

Note Do not continue if you do not have the administrator password.

  • At the command prompt, type cd $ntservicepackuninstall$ \spuninst, and then press ENTER.
  • At the command prompt, type batch spuninst.txt, and then press ENTER.

Note The Spuninstal.txt file appears. As the file scrolls down, you will see errors and files that are copied. It is a normal behavior.

  • After Windows XP SP3 is removed, type exit and press ENTER.
  • Restart the computer in safe mode. To do this, press F8 when the computer restarts.

Note After you restart the computer, the computer may stop responding, and you will see a black screen. The mouse works. In this case, restart the computer by turning off the computer, and then turn it back on. The second reboot allows you to open a session.

  • When the computer restarts, Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) does not run and the icons of Windows and the Start button are unavailable. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
    1. Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and then click Task Manager in the Windows security screen.
    2. Click file, and then click new task (run).
    3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs
    5. In the Details pane, right-click ObjectName, click modify, typeLocalSystem in the data value box and then clickOK.
    6. Restart the computer
  • Use one of the previous methods to remove Windows XP SP3 from your computer.

  • Unable to start after installing SP3

    original title: problem installing SP3

Whenever I have install sp3, that my computer starts in safe mode, I have to run the system restore to get back, can someone help?

You can't just rename Intelppm, since then it would be "disappeared" but on next boot, XP would always try to load and do not find the file, so I think that you wait for the error.

I'm not sure that article HP makes sense - perhaps Beach Bum Daavee will weigh on that thought.

Using the Recovery Console, you need to disable the Service, as shown in method 2 of this article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/953356

Then when you restart, the Service will not even try to start.

If things get worse, you can also run "enable intelppm" the RC.

  • Problem after installing SP3

I have family xp SP2 installed. After that I have sp3 insalled I can't get back on the internet, no matter how I try disconnects immediately. I tried a number of facilities and whenever I have to restore to an earlier date and remove sp3 to get back my internet connection! I have broadband wireless on a laptop. Help, please

    Thank you

First download the Service Pack 3 file to a folder on your hard drive. http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5b33b5a8-5e76-401F-BE08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en

Next check the wireless (if external) or manufacturing of the portable computer of (if built in wireless) technical support web site and download the latest version of the wireless driver and software.

If external wireless and then disconnect the USB device and uninstall software. If it has integrated the use of Device Manager to remove the device driver.

Next install SP3 by using the downloaded file.

Now, install the device driver and the software that you downloaded, and then try to connect.

    Hi DECantrell,

Because the problem started after installing Windows updates, you will need to perform a system restore before the updates were installed

You can try a system restore to a restore point before the updates were installed.

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

To run the system restore, you can consult the following link:
