Ethernet cord connected to the network, but not to the internet

The cord was working fine last night. I closed the laptop and when I turned it back this morning it didn't work anymore. I am not very computer savvy so I'm just asking that when you answer have all steps if your answer is complex.  Thanks in advance for any help.

  • G560 wireless connects to other networks, but not my home network

    Hello

Got the 560 yesterday and set up was smooth. First thing I did was try to connect to my home wireless network, but it wouldn't connect. I checked the network password several times but it doesn't connect at all.

All my other devices at home can always connect to my network. And the 560 connects to the network of my neighbour without problem.

So I think that this is not a problem with the radio doesn't work.

Tried to restart the connectivity and the computer several times, but has not made a difference. Does not resemble ReadyComm is installed on my machine.

Someone had this problem? Is there anything I can try?

FYI my home router is Netgear and is set up with WPA - PSK.

    Thank you.

    Update:

Discovered the Atheros drivers were from 2009. Looked around the internet and found a newer version (although not later).

Updated the drivers manually and its working fine now.

  • WRTG54S to connect to the network, but not internet

I have a WRTG54S and Mediacom 12mbps. My router worked fine on my old laptop (a Dell Vista), he was sitting in a box for about 6 months and now that I have a new (Sony running 7) I can connect to my network, but not internet. I have updated the firmware of 7.6 to 7.8 without change. I have tried no security, wep and wap without change. Also, I cloned the MAC, once again no change. Windows cannot detect all problems, and when I try to activate the router to connect to the internet it always says connection failed. I can connect directly connected to the modem but not when connected to the router or wireless. Any ideas? Thank you

  • I'm trying to connect to the internet and I am unable to do so. My screen says Internet Explore cannot display this Web page. I missed something in the settings? He sees my wireless and says acquiring network address... but not to go further.

I tried to diagnose, disconnect and reconnect

You have left out information such as how you connect to the Internet (cable/DSL? ISP?), the brand of your router, and whether other computers can connect to your router wirelessly with success. Also, we don't know whether there is an initial Setup or if you had this before work and now it just doesn't.

I'm going to assume that this is the first installation then give you instructions on setting up a safe wireless router. Maybe that will make things work for you. If you need more information, be sure to include all missing information in your next post.

Setting up a router is simple enough. Normally, you run the CD that came with the router and follow the instructions. But you can set up the router without the CD. Note that if you have Internet cable for the connection you have just set up the router to DHCP (or there may even be a choice of cable to choose). If you have DSL Internet, you select TRP usually and enter the username and password you selected when you initially set the DSL connection. So:

    1. turn off the power to your modem.
    2. attach a class (usually supplied with the router) ethernet cable cat5e Internet/WAN port of the router to the ethernet port on the modem.
    3. connect the ethernet cable cat5e from the network card in your computer to one of the ports on the router. If you do not have an ethernet cable (because you were using USB), you will need to go to the store and buy a.
    4. turn on the modem. After that all the lights are on, turn on the router.

    To configure the router:

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine. The first thing to do is to change the default password because * all * known default passwords for different routers.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). Most computers purchased during the last 4 years have the wireless hardware that will support WPA2-Personal (also known as WPA2-PSK). This is the desired encryption level. If your wireless hardware is older, use WPA. Don't use WEP, because who is easily broken within minutes. So go ahead and set the Security Mode WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. For example, you could use the password ' here be dragons, beware you scurvy dogs! The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password that you have created (exactly as you wrote it with all capital letters and punctuation) to join the network and start surfing. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Windows 8 "not connected to the network" but it is, shows computers and can connect to the internet. How can I fix it

I used the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade on a Windoxs XP pro installation.  Everything works except that the network and sharing Center indicates that the computer is not connected to a network, but it is.  I can files in front on other computers on the network (at home) and I can access the internet.  The active profile is public, although it should be private. I created this to access the homegroup during installation.

I'm trying to get a first HD Homerun operation and if Media Center does not have any network, he sees no tuner either.

What can I do to get this working properly.

    a. no red X

    1. I tried to download a different driver, but it didn't work at all so cancelled.  To check if it was a pilot, I bought a usb wireless adapter.  I've disabled the ethernet connection and used the wireless connection.  The results are the same regardless of which connection I use.

    2. ran every convenience store without success

    3. services were what they were supposed to be

4 safe mode is worse.  No network connection (cannot see other computers in all), although internet is accessible

5 start gives the same results. "You are not connected to a network" yet the computers on the network are visible and accessible top records.  Internet is available.

I installed the software very little on this computer (just installed Win 8 last week.)

The only installed software is software HP Officejet L7680, Brother HL5250DN & first Silicon Dust HD Homerun software driver. I'm trying to set up basically as a DVR, so very little will be on it.

The only thing I can think is that I started with the installation of XP has been implemented using a VPN to connect to our network at work. This means that the computer should be part of the field it. Is it possible victory 8 retrieves these settings and now here's what's causing my problems? (I think that very few came from an installation of XP, but I noticed that some parameters met).

I plan to start again and re-installed Win 8 a last ditch effort... If you can offer any suggestions on repairing this conditioin, please provide me with the best way to re - install Win 8 as a clean install (without the things I installed). I'll then make sure that the network is working correctly before installing anything.

    *************************************************************************************************************

A follow-up for this reading. My problem was apparently caused by the upgrade of XP and usinging Dungeon files and SETTINGS. Although there are very limited items brought back an installation of XP, something is buried somewhere off network connections.

To solve this problem, Windows 8 has a new feature called reset. This essentially Setup all over again if you choose the option to delete files. You must enter the product key again when you do this. This is a clean install.  I had to update the graphics card drivers, add Media Center back, install HD Homerun Prime, run the Advisor of cable, making the TV configuration and finally got it works as I had expected.

  • I can connect to the local network, but not to the internet

Why in an internet connection, I can connect to the Local network, but not to the Internet.
I have valid IP address and configuration is good.

I recommend you read some threads here in the forum about similar issues.
If this problem occurs using the WiFi network, then check if you can use the connection to the local network.
    Using the WiFi network, you must check if the common WLan parameters are favourable;
Check if the encryption key is right; turn off filtering by mac address, check the TCP/IP protocol settings if it has been set to automatic, disable the firewall settings, rest you WLan router, check if you connected to the right SSID.

    Hello

    I have a problem with my HP Pavilion 2 x 10-N000NA Windows 10, 32-bit version...

I have a router TP-Link W9980 and the laptop connects to the 2.4 GHz network, but there is no internet access.

However, if I use a range extender (powerline TP-Link Wireless extender), it connects to the network and the internet!

So, I guess that the equipment is working well, there must be a setting somewhere?

I've updated all the drivers, etc. for the laptop and the router.

    Any ideas?  Thank you.

    Hello

    Well, the strangest thing happened!

There was a huge update of Windows, and it seems to have solved the problem.

Connections now say '(network) secure' or '(network) open' - which they did not before.

So now that I know that the network was very good and it was a laptop problem which needed fixing.

However, I do not know what exactly the update fixed, so I can not pass on any knowledge to solve the problem of someone else who suffer.

  • Can connect to the network, but not the internet, a "Local" access only

Just installed a new router and am now unable to connect to internet on my HP laptop. The laptop is running Windows Vista 64-bit Service pack 1. Pulling him diagnose & repair window returns a message indicating "your modem or router is not available.

I tried several things to get the internet to connect. I have reinstalled the driver, turned off the firewall, disabled the Internet Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) Protocol and manually configure the network connection.

I have a desktop computer with a wireless adapater that performs the exact same OS as the laptop and I have no problem with this connection.

I am able to connect to the internet if I connect the laptop to the ethernet cable. I am completely confused and would appreciate any advice!

    Hi Ima be,

You can follow the steps below and check if that helps you solve the problem.

    Method 1

Try to power cycle the router and the computer and check if it helps.

    On the PC:

    1. Save your work and restart the machine.

On the router or modem (if wireless printing):

    1. Unplug the router and the modem.
    2. Wait 30 seconds.
    3. Plug in the modem and wait for it to come to the ready state.
    4. Plug in the router.

After you put cycle check the connection between the router and the computer.

    Method 2

If the steps above do not help, you mayreset TCP/IP stack. To reset access the link below and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

    Disable the IP helpdesk:
1 hold the Windows key and type R, type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press enter
    2. scroll down to the IP assistance service, right-click on it and select Properties
    3. in the drop-down list box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to disabled and then click 'apply '.
    4. then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
    5. click on OK to exit the dialog box

    Method 3

Disable IPv6 and remove IPv6 virtual cards:

Try to uninstall IPv6 on all interfaces, the removal of virtual cards of IPv6 and reset the TCP/IP stack. To remove the IPv6, go to the properties for each network adapter, and deselect the check box next to the Protocol "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6), which will turn off, or select it and click on uninstall, which withdraw power off the computer.» Then go into Device Manager and remove any 4to6 adapters, adapters miniport WUN or tunnel adapters.
NOTE: You should do this for each network connection, even if they are disabled.

    Method 4

    Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:
    Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233
Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756.  How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or some non-Microsoft DHCP servers

To resolve this issue, disable the DHCP BROADCAST flag in Windows Vista. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click regedit in the list programs.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
    3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    4 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ {GUID}
    5. in this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the network adapter that is connected to the network.
    6. on the Edit menu, point to new, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
    7. in the new area #1, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle and press ENTER.
    8. right click on DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, then click on modify.
    9. in the value data box, type 1 and then click OK.
    10. close the registry editor.

By setting this registry key to 1, Windows Vista's trying to get an IP address using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets. If that fails, he will try to obtain an IP address without using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets.
You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the wireless card.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Hello world

OK, so I have a HP computer with the installed version of Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I've had it for almost 2 years now and have had no problems connecting to Internet... until now.

I can connect to networks... both wireless and cable, but I can not get Internet. I used the IP, subnet mask, gateway and server settings DNS to another computer that works with this specific local network just to see what happens... my computer has failed.
Until recently, I could connect to this WiFi connection in a coffee shop, but the last time I tried it didn't work. I've connected to the network but not the Internet. He told me that the DNS server did not. I'm starting to think that something is wrong with my computer.

I saw that the solution for some people running the Norton removal tool, however I had uninstalled Norton almost as soon as I got my computer 2 years ago and ran McAfee instead. I don't think that Norton should have an impact on me more.

Is there a solution to this problem... or I'll just have to try everything that is out there?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi MomPlaysBass,

Finally, my problem has been resolved - it wasn't my computer after all. The modem may only be connected to a computer. If you want to connect to another computer, you can connect the computer to the modem and then put it back. My computer worked fine after that. Whenever we want to switch between computers, even if I have to reset the modem.

I don't think you have the same problem, but just in case, you can try to reset your modem - it's a button on the back or a small hole that you can reach with a pen... Hold the stylus for about 5 sec or maybe a bit more and then let go. That should reset your modem and might help you with your problem. Your computer should also have created a restore point... If all else fails maybe you can try to get back to the final point where your computer worked.
