    Hello world
about a year on a toshiba laptop - info below - my wife has complained that its files in Word 2003 have been mysteriously transformed into unreadable garble.
Text became symbols... or, a translation box appears, but there is no way to return this mutilated in its original file. Most of his recorded pictures have also disappeared. (The files remained, but each page was empty when opening). So I wanted to put this on this forum and see exactly what the Devil's going on.
I had my own problems with the laptop. I transferred more than 2100 JPEGs of my drive hard iomega and created a disc using nero. Everything was fine until I saw the disc on another dvd player - info files were black, some pictures would be partially visible, and the disk drive had trouble reading the cd. When I plugged in my Iomega hard drive in our old workhorse 98se and used an older version of nero, I got the cd and it played perfectly in 2 separate dvd players.

    Hello

seems that the hard drive or RAM is defective. I don't know, but if I were you I exchanged these components as your problem doesn't sound like a software problem...
First try to replace the memory modules because they sometimes are the main reason for this error. I would test the modules with "SuperPi" before replacing the RAM. The same should be done with the hard disk, depending on the manufacturer of the HARD drive, I would check the Web site of the manufacturers for some specific tools of the reader to check if the drive works properly.

    Hello

I have a satellite C660-225 and you want to restore to its original settings by using the zero button. The recovery starts, but the laptop then said it cannot find the files to restore. But they are on the C drive and I made a copy on disk D.

I don't have a recoverydisk. What can I do now?

    Thank you in advance,

Recovery image is usually original saved on partition D, as well as on some machines on the hidden recovery partition, but certainly not on the C partition.

You cannot move files in recovery from one place to another piece waiting for everything works fine.

In your case installation image of HARD drive recovery not working anymore.
What you can do now is to try to create a recovery media using the method described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm

You'll be really lucky if it will work. Otherwise you can order the original recovery image on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Satellite C660 - Freez after boot - corrupt BIOS update 1.7

The Satellite C660 had start-up problems: freezing screen after startup and very, very slow. Also a HARD drive recovery did not help.

I tried an update of the Bios and loaded the downloadable file that at Toshiba (version 1.7). The Bios update has not completed and now the laptop does not at all.

The warranty is void, I now buy a chip of bios in China and I'm looking for now the bios file.

It's all them very disappointing and a large size of time and money.

    > The Bios update has not completed and now the laptop does not at all.
That s it Plains really looks like the module ROM was not properly flashed.
I think it's a problem with the hardware, since you had problems before the update of the BIOS.
I think that affected the procedure for updating the BIOS.

    > As the warranty is cancelled, I now buy a chip of bios in China and I'm now looking for the bios file.
Forget it mate ROM module cannot be replaced in most cases the module ROM must be flashed with a disc of crisis

Would recommend asking a Toshiba ASP for help and reflash the BIOS using the disc of the crisis.
This should not be very expensive

  • Constant faults with satellite C660

At the present time, I am more than just a little ticked off so I will try my best not to go off on a mug shot.

Then I decided I would buy a laptop from Argos, I chose the Satellite C660 which cost me £300, and the first was faulty within weeks, it wouldn't read the Wifi card and I could not even anywhere near update even if that was the problem. So I had a second, worked well for 2-3 months, and then at the end of July it suddenly wrong.

The error was with the hard disk, the hard disk had some how becomes corrupt, but firstly I decided I would buy recovery disks that cost £30 and took almost a week to arrive.

Ultimately the recovery disks did not solve my problem so I rang the customer Service and they told me I could either send for repair, get a new hard drive sent me or send it to argos and get a replacement.

Not even a month on the line and the SAME problems arose. Now I'm not sure that my anti virus was silly and allowed a virus to sneak into systems and corrupt once again, the concert stick which has been a cause of the second break was NOT used after to be sure.

The anti-virus was Virgin Media Security Center, and even if some errors which is is past that have not been to painful difficulty it has worked well.

But today, I uninstalled a program called Ventrilo so that I could reinstall it due to the fact that suddenly, she works correctly (suspect last night could be the beginning of my laptop once again to go to hell) last night, I used a Web site to see how I could completely remove ventrillo, and I followed the steps.

As soon as I deleted the file ventrilo BAM the laptop went crazy! I rebooted, it don't think it would take just a reboot... once it is loaded, no background would show, a lot of error messages and I aircraft to the system restore 3 times. So I decided I want to reformat my laptop.

That's where it went worse again, as soon as I entered the recovery disks the wrong hard drive shot, he began to reformat error only 5 seconds later saying no recovery of files found.

Seriously toshiba, how much more portable that I am will have to be repaired or replaced before finally getting one that works 100%, why should not only claim a first thing in the morning, because ive got the reception has not been able to buy 3 years extra warranty (fortunately I still have 1 year of warranty) so I could do it now. im sick and tired of having a new piece of computer toshiba laptop for a short time then suddenly go faulty, especially when before you download anything, I make sure that I have downloaded to ensure responsible for anti-virus as his protégé.

My moms laptop is HP and is 4 years old and STILL works very well, Yes, of course it heat up too much otherwise is based on a good surface, but still, how does a cell phone 4 years compared to a who apparently 3 months old laptop can work BETTER, is not what he supposed to be the other way around?

EDIT: I just went through the forums, it seems that this brand has SO much go wrong with it in the first 3 pages only.

    Hello Steelworkers

Sorry to hear (read) all that but what about?
It's really funny in our life. With some things, we are more than satisfied and happy, but sometimes we just out of luck.

Toshiba sells millions of laptops and probably thousands of Satellite C660 and there is always the risk that some of them are troublemakers. It is with other electronic products, cars, different machines and so on.

I know you won t hear it but your only chance is to stay in contact with Toshiba service provider and if all goes well they will help you with all these issues.

I must also say that over the last decade I have use Toshiba notebooks only. I had a few small problems too but it was always repaired quite quickly and I was able to continue my work.
When you analyze markets for laptop, you will notice that the products are quite similar. You can't tell A manufacturer has much better quality than the manufacturer B. The level of prices is the same and the quality as well. What makes the difference is the hardware configuration and design, but all the rest is quite similar.

One last thing: I agree with you on the old notebooks. I'm also sure that older models were much better, but what I can say for Toshiba tool Mr. I really missed some old models like Satellite 5200 or Satellite P20 of Mr. I had two of them, and I can say that they were ahead of the development and design.

    Bye and good luck.

  • Satellite C660 - 115 Win7 update stuck in the loop. SOLVED!

I have a Satellite C660-115 which is stuck in a loop "of despair".
I am a COMPUTER engineer support and a customer brought this laptop of mine, who was stuck in a loop of repair Win7 (64-bit prem) that simply says Win7 could not be repaired.

I backed up the profiles of subscribers using Hiren boot CD (done chkdsk as well - everything is OK), and then did a factory restore.
No problem at all with the restoration.

Started doing the updates for Win7; SP1 seems to install OK without errors.
The system then picked up 37 Win7 updates automatically and asked to reset.
Upon reboot, Win7 entered "drvload.exe" and started an auto repair.
It took time and the system started OK, but without any sign of SP1, looks so much like system restore to an earlier point?

I though this update to process 3 times now and each time after that a lot of auto update, the same sequence occurs.

How to exit this loop? What is causing this problem, which I have never seen before?

No software has been installed, other than that of the recovery process.
I even uninstalled McAfee, just in case this could be a problem - no change.

Ah, just took another look. It is stated in Win7 system registers that the restoration was caused by a corrupted file C:\ci.dll. Google to find it was a sign by a rootkit virus in the HARD Master Boot Record disk (the file ci.dll itself is NOT damaged). Found a fix tool

    http://support.Kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?QID=208280684

It identified the rootkit and removed.
    Seems to be OK now!

Hope this post could help others.
Of course, the factory restore does not erase the HDD MBR rootkit...

    Thanks for sharing!

I have restored my Toshiba Satellite C660-217, Wndows 7 laptop to the default value of the plant, but when I checked in the folder of the computer, the data (D) space (149 GB) serves all upward. When I checked the individual files in data (D), it does not add up to 149 GB.

I was wondering why this is and can I do?
    Thank you.

    Hello

As I m not wrong not the laptop was equipped with a 320 GB HARD drive.
I guess it has been partitioned and three partitions are available (a very small partition is hidden and contains the files of Windows 7 repair)
The other two partitions, C and D are visible.

The C partition has been formatted before installation of the system. The D partition is not affected if you use HARD drive recovery option. In case you have used the recovery disk, partition D should be formatted to and recovery files would be saved once again.

  • Satellite C660 - 1 7 - installation newer Intel display driver

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660 - 1 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 64 bit running with processor Intel Core i3 [email protected] GHz and 4 GB of RAM. I use my computer laptop great graphics etc with Adobe CS5 and Corel Paint shop Pro Photo x 3 etc.

After only 2 months, I received an alert HDD saying he would fail soon. Yes, under warranty 2 weeks ago Toshiba arranged for a retailer authorized to collect and replace the drive it HARD that they did. Since then I can't use my graphics software. Now, I remember when I got my laptop I've had the same problem and it had to do with my graphics/video card and OpenGL. My own laptop and Toshiba Site repeated that all drivers are up-to-date. But when I went on the Intel site, I found that the Intel HD graphics card was not up-to-date. As soon as I updated, I was able to use all of my graphics programs.

The drivers installed without any problem at all. This time, although I gave a recovery to the garage to repair disc when my graphics software did not work. I went on the Intel site and once again there are more available updated drivers. However, when I try to install it says that I have now modified drivers from the manufacturer of the laptop and I have to go on the Toshiba site. Whatever it is, the drivers, I need aren't on the Toshiba site and I tried all possible ways I think to install those I want.
    Help, please!

Programs open when I click on for example Paint shop pro x 3 but when I go to save a picture or change it crashes and 'unresponsive' and I have to use the Task Manager to end the process. I need the same drivers I had on my laptop before the HARD drive has been replaced but can t bring Intel as Toshiba seems to have given up on updates.

Any help is welcome! Thanks in advance. John Scott

    Hi John,.

The problem is that only the Toshiba drivers are pre-tested on your system. Install the other drivers happens on your own risk, because they are not tested by Toshiba.

In any case, simply download the drivers on the Intel Web site. If the setup.exe file display you an error about incompatible drivers install them manually (I know that this message from my laptop). So go to Device Manager > right click on the graphic card > driver update. Then, choose the Advanced installation where you can choose the directory and the driver yourself. You are now able to install this driver :)

    Hi all

I have a serious problem in my satellite C660-1EL, I bought it for two weeks, I received free back and I installed WIN 7 Ultimate.

The problem is when I put on day of win 7 using auto. Update and installing these updates the notebook suddenly stopped. When I turn it on again it gave me a blue screen with the message "{color: #ff0000} {color} irql_not_less_or_equal" during boot.

I tried more time with safe mode, but still give me a blue screen before the victory. the startup.

I tried to install the new system using the CD original WINDOWS 7, but before the installation of the files are extracted, the bluescreen reappear.

I checked the RAM, HD, CD/DVD, in another laptop and it worked fine.

Also I tried to install WIN 7 using USB flash boot and Win XP PRO on CD, but still the same blue screen appears before the configuration copy victory. files.

Please help me, this notebook is brand new.

    {color: #ff0000} Note {color}:

Firstly the Toshiba start screen disappear, but when I removed the RAM and installed again it appear and I went into the setup by pressing F2 and restore the default bios, but still problem exists.

    {color: #ff0000} Sorry for my language {color}.

    Hey,.

The problem could be related to RAM modules as Timox wrote. You can test the modules of RAM with Memtest86. Which is a freeware software to test the memory modules live. If you do a Google search, you can find it. You must create a boot disk and if you start from that you can test the modules.

In General, there should be no problem to install Windows 7 on Satellite C660. If you have problems (blue screen), it could be a malfunction of the equipment. An authorized service provider can help you to repair the computer.

  • Satellite C660 - 11K DVD drive does not

I was just become acquainted with my new laptop Satellite C660 - 11K that I bought for Christmas and came to try playing a DVD for the first time tonight.

The first one I tried was a business produced in format DVD RW DVD. When I inserted in the DVD player, I got a "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem during playback of the file" error message. Following the troubleshooting guide to check my sound, video settings and game controllers do not solve the problem.

I then tried a purchased movie DVD (DVD-video format) and received the same error message.

Finally, I have inserted an audio CD purchased and tried to play it through Windows Media Player and iTunes, but could not play all titles. The Gracenote software did, however, identify the CD and track names.

By Device Manager, I found that my DVD drive is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C and that it is enabled, the value of region 2 DVD and it has drivers up to date.

Am I missing something stupid that prevents me to get my DVD player to work, or do I have a defective DVD player?

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi mate

Perhaps you need a firmware update for the CD/DVD drive.
    I found this Toshiba document:

  • Satellite C660 - 26G - unexpected error after removing the USB

Hello all, I need help here.

I have a Satellite C660 - 26G, 2 days and a USB key has been removed from the laptop while he was working, and I think that caused a kind of corruption.

The machine starts, passes the logo and the windows, come the white loading bar along the bottom of the screen. It freezes about 1/3 of the way along and then throws an error screen indicating the following:

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device, such as an external USB drive, while the disc is used... and so on... »

It says to plug it back in and restart the machine.

I tried this and always the same, I even connected on the two available ports and nothing helps, the same problem exists.

Now, the forum search, I thought of nothing else but to restore the factory settings, because they don't have has no physical disks provided with the new machine.

Use of the restart and the results of the F8 method in action and same error in the end.

    Bottom of the error screen States;

    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected i/o error has occurred.

    Help, please?

    > Using the reboot and the results of the F8 method in action and same error in the end.
If you are not able to get the advanced boot menu that appears by pressing F8 at the beginning of the right procedure initialization?

HM in this case, I would recommend testing new OS install could be the last resort in this case.
