H Envy 17: HP Envy 17: F9, F10 and F11 keys stop working

Hit f9 - f11 keys on my keyboard control my music.

  • F9 = previous track
  • F10 = play/pause
  • F11 = next track

It worked well upward until a few days ago. Now, they don't work at all. I also tried combining them with the fn key, but do not work yet.

I'd really like to help, try to understand it. I use these keys frequently, and it's starting to really annoy me.

I don't know what information is necessary, but here's what I found:

Product name: HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC
Product number: G0U21AV
BIOS: F.34-12/19/2014
Keyboard review: 77.35
Total memory: 12.00 GB
Name of the processor: Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50 GHz

I tried your first proposal and did not get anywhere. However, I played around a little more with different combinations of keys, and I found a combination that works! For anyone else having this same problem, try pressing the following key combinations:

FN + alt + f9

FN + alt + f10

FN + alt + f11

Thanks for your help!

  • HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC: HP Envy 15 action keys works do not (F9, F10 and F11)

My laptop has been working fine since purchase, but last week, I noticed that action F10 F10 & F9 keys (jump, play/pause, skip) did not work for their function. Before last week I could just press the key to activate, I read other posts of this forum and the answers did not work pressing fn + alt + (key action), either by pressing fn + key action. To make this work I need to access the bios screen and change the default values, but it only works when the laptop is on. If I turn the laptop, turn again he resorts right back to does not. Action all other keys work e.g. keyboard backlight, volume, brightness, etc.

    Any solutions would be welcome.

    Thank you.

    Hello @Spudy96,

Thank you for your quick response!

You can try to perform a System Restore.  If this does not work, then you could also try to install the previous version of the BIOS of your Support Site.  Let me know how it goes.

    Good luck!

    Hi @raynelle

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that you are having problems with your new laptop, and I'm happy to help you. Since you posted this a few days ago, it is possible that you have already solved, but otherwise, there are a few things you can try.

First of all, this icon is not immediately or after a certain time after the installation of other software? If it appears after a few updates, then you could try a system restore.

Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)

  • Audio HP Envy 3033CI has stopped working

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a laptop HP Envy 3033. The audio has suddenly stopped working. This happened right after an update of Windows, although that could be a coincidence. I tried to use the troubleshooter in Windows for sound and used the Recovery Manager to reinstall the audio driver, but nothing has worked. No sound through speakers or headphones. Everything looks like it should work, but it is not. Computer is still under warranty.

No audible response in the installer, so I'll try the repair of the equipment. Thanks for your quick response!

  • HP Envy 15 - 3040nr Sound stopped working

    Hello

The sound on my hp envy 15-3040nr has just stopped working. I reinstalled the sound drivers, checked to see if the speakers have been disabled in Device Manager and used the tool to troubleshoot the system and security. None of them helped. Its also not working with headphones.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    Try the following.

Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp56501-57000/sp56900.exe

One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

When you're done, shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and then proceed to a "forced Reset" by holding down the power and time for 10 seconds.  When done, plug in the adapter.

Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

  • HP ENVY laptop - 15-ae178ca: Second monitor stopped working after the automatic update of HP

I use my laptop with a second monitor (HP Pavillion 22xw) connected by HDMI. It was working fine until yesterday (including yesterday it worked), when a message from automatic upgrade HP was shown to informing him that the system needs to be restarted. After that, my second monitor stopped working. The system will not identify it more. I tried another cable, I rebooted several times, I tried to update the specific Intel graphics driver, I tried to uninstall and install manually another (I can't get this one done, because when I run manually downloaded driver there is a message saying that I need to contact the manufacturer). Please notify that I need my second monitor is fully functional!

    Hello @MAlex_B,

Thank you for visiting the Forums from the HP Support! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I understand that you have a problem with the display and wanted to help you!  I see only after an update, the external monitor no longer works.

Given that this problem happened recently, have you tried to perform a System Restore, to define the notebook to its previous working state?  If this does not work, have you tried to update the drivers of graphics Chipset and BIOS on the HP website directly?  You can find the drivers for you product here: drivers - HP's ENVY for laptop - 15-ae178ca

Please post back with the results.  Let me know if this information helps you solve the problem by marking this message as 'accept as Solution', this will help others easily find the information they seek.  In addition, by clicking on the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thank you!

Bought my HP Envy in January 2015 and received this error message at start-up. Read all the suggestions here, but was afraid to try to remove the drivers on my own. Instead, I used the HP support chat service. HP technician took the screen control (with my permission) and does all the work while I watched. It was a rather technical and complex challenge that took about 15 minutes, including two reboots. When the computer restarts, the technology was already ready to continue once completed starting. He has solved the problem, waited patiently for a start more to make sure that the error message disappeared and then proposed to call me 1 hour to see if everything was still OK. Cannot recommend this service enough.  Surpisingly good service of HP. It's my first HP because I always heard bad things about their service, but their obviouly working on fixing it. Not sure if this service is available only if your computer is not in the warranty. Maybe for a fee, but still worth it.
