  All connectors/ports sata may not look the same but will serve as the data transfers. The Sata ports are different for different devices, for example the odd and HDD.

• IDE to SATA

  I bought an adapter IDE to SATA so trying to use one of my PATA133 of Maxtor HARD drive on my new Inspiron 530 which only has SATA connections.  I searched the forums and see that it is a common recommendation for this situation.  In my situation, it does not work.  The device does not appear on the system and if I go to the startup configuration, the SATA 4 and 5 positions of show .  I know that this may be a problem with the adapter, but I was wondering if there is a Vista driver I need to install or a setting I have to change to enable the SATA 4 and 5 connections or whatever it is in the same direction.

  We have a dell optiplex gx620. He got an ide dvd and an ide hd. I got an ide to sata converter to use for an ide 2nd hd but the bios is not seeing. The dvd and hd 1 are set to CSEL and therefore convert it hd.

  Is there a way to define what works?

  Ide to sata converter plugs into the port ide hard disk. The converter has a port for the motherboard's sata connector. It also has its own outlet which is the size of a floppy drive decision-making. I read that you need to plug in the power socket usually in hd as well.  This is a link showing the converter: www.ebay.com/.../190466695934

• Hard drive upgrade from IDE to SATA for Precision 360

  Hi all

  I need help.  I have a Dell Precision 360 with two hard 40 GB IDE disks.  I would like to move to a WD Caviar 640 GB hard drive and throw the other two.  The WD hard drive is a SATA connection.  I'm sure I need to purchase a controller card, but I don't know what kind to get.

  I've read other messages concerning an upper limit of 137 GB, but I think that referred to as prior to Windows XP Sp2.  I also read that do not mix disks hard IDE and SATA hard drives, DVD IDE burners mix with SATA drives?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated for this kind of upgrade.

  I run windows XP Pro on my computer, it's a Sata hard drive, I also have to plug an IDE drive, but also a return to the top. Whenever I put the disc in, my computer can not see a reason any. Please help an old man if you would.

• Windows problem with hard drive changed from IDE to SATA connection.

  After a full rebuild (new MB, CPU, graphics and RAM) and install the new copy of Windows 7 Home, everything is great, until I try to connect an additional internal HDD. The boot and then crashes to the windows logo. Additional HARD drive is SATA, but it has already been used on an IDE connection.

  The bios recognizes the drive, but obviously, there's some kind of conflict in Windows (I think the reader can contain a backup of the previous generation system).

  Usually means a player has failed/problematic

  You say sata drive but used on a connector IDE does that mean you are using a cable converter, because the type of interface is completely different, or do you just mean the parameter for the connection of the bios?

  That s a funny question.
  No, there is no option in the BIOS!

  Please understand that there are various interfaces to drive HARD. IDE and SATA.

  There is a big difference between the two interfaces and the function of the HARD disk on the motherboard controller, you could use a HDD IDE or SATA HDD.

  But you cannot connect a SATA HDD to IDE or IDE HDD controller for the SATA controller. This is not possible due to different hardware.
  This is not possible and that's why these BIOS settings are not available or don t exist!

  As far as I remember the Satellite A30-303 PSA30E series came with a 60 GB 4200 RPM HARD drive.
  The laptop supports the Enhanced IDE (ATA-5). This means that you need to use the HARD drive that supports an IDE interface!

  But note; not all HARD drive sizes are supported. There is a BIOS HARD disk size limitation.
  I'm not sure on the compatible HARD disk sizes but in my opinion, you should be able to use 80 GB, 100 GB of maybe too.
