IPv4 and 6 addresses are available for use.

A notion exists that any V4 address assigned to we were able to be used elsewhere and is, therefore, a security risk potential (I have trouble understanding this fear. Please do not hesitate to comment be it).

Well Yes.  V6 is more than 50% of the data traffic of cell LTE4 in the United States, more than 40% of traffic in backbone of the Belgium, tends to work better than the v4 for mobile devices, etc.  It's true.  We are in the interregnum of double-internet, where not all clients can talk to all servers, until the transition of the v6 is over 15 years.

Because the IPv4 address space is commonly used around the world, most ISP are turning to 'carrier grade NAT' where customers share the overall scope of intellectual to a NAT upstream.  The reputation of the internet of such middlebox will trend down in the most infected client / badly behaved behind it, which is always going to be a zombie botnet.  Could collateral damage to the protocols used by perfectly well-behaved clients that also share the catwalk of the GNC.

During this time, you can not new the regional internet registrys IPv4 subnets, so your only effective source of additional IP space is to pay for a transfer to someone else.  The transferred subnet was probably already in use and so can be on blacklists to email spamming or have blackhole routes to the backbone of the ISP.  He could have previously also housed nuisance attractive such as banking or services of Paris that are often being DDOSd because of the inertia of the miscreant.  This can take time and effort to clean.

Recycled IPv4 addresses that are actually working for you are not particularly more at risk than the addresses of archaic origin question from a security point of view; mainly, endpoint software quality-controlled not by mere reputation.

Sort of.  The usual problem is that a client v6 only (say, a cellphone LTE4) tries to join a v4 service only (for example, a typical business web site).  This requires 6--> 4 translation; for that this week the default mechanism seems to be "464xlat".  The customer gets two v6/64 prefixes, transport v6 only and a private address v4 which is in tunnel on the secondary prefix to a carrier grade NAT64/DNS64 middlebox.

The inverse problem of a customer only v4 trying to reach the Server v6 only is usually academic; usually you dual-stack to the client instead and there aren't many services only v6, although this will change.

The IETF has downgraded RFC 2766 NAT - PT for the translation of v4 to v6 historical belonging, meaning it is not recommended for use on the internet in general, in the RFC 4966.  In addition to all the usual problems of NAT, NAT - PT does not work across ISPS due to the inability to get the right DNS46 TTL values.  If you try only translate a small subnet of a single body, say a v4/24, you might be able to find a software that did it, but it's the wrong way to take.

If the problem is that the customer support not double stack v4 + v6, switch to something produced in this century; even windows XP can be dual-Stack if offer you it DNS on v4.

If the problem is the ISP offer v6-transport, tunnel traffic v4 across this gap v6 to a double gateway to battery.

  • Extend my extreme network with another extreme - waiting for internet access

    Hello - I have a new generation Airport Extreme (let's call it Extreme1) connected to a Comcast modem and it works very well. The extreme will be the router that the modem has no router function. I'm trying to expand my network to another room with another extreme (let's call it Extreme2). I have a connection cable between two rooms. Extreme1 has an ethernet cable from one of its LAN ports connected on port WAN Extreme2. When I try to create a new network with Extreme2 (in aid of the same name, passwords, etc.) it does not work. He was suspended at the end when he is looking for a connection ("Waiting for internet access")-I did the following things based on what I read here:

    1. Changed IPv6 link local parameters
    2. Tried the whole upward on my Macbook and tried on my iphone
    3. The Wan first and then tried to change the configuration after you done for Extreme2 by creating a network
    4. Tried to create a network with Extreme2 connected directly to the modem
    5. Extreme2 factory reset after every attepmt

    And nothing works. Kicker is, I also have a reasonably new airport express and the same thing happens to her as well.

    Do I need to adjust some parameters of network that I'm not aware of? Is it possible that my LAN ports are disabled on Extreme2? It is brand new.

    Have you used the Apple Setup Assistant?  If you did, it had notified you that the extreme second was being configured "add using Ethernet. The wizard will automatically configure the second airport with the appropriate settings for you.  All you have to do is enter a name of device for the second AirPort Extreme.

    Here I'm assuming that you reset the second extreme to parameters by default until you set it up again and that your second Extreme is the current version of the "tower" or that of previous versions "flat or square.

    The example below shows an AirPort Express as the device which is the extension of the network, but you will see the name of your network and AirPort Extreme on your configuration screen.

    Post back if you need some tips on using the "Wizard" for your configuration.

    It looks like that your keyboard is not appearing when it should. I'd leave the applications that are run in which you try to get the keyboard works as well as the application of the parameters:

What command can I use to confirm this... because it looks like that to me, we use PAT and NAT not for internet connections.     I just downloaded the latest demo version of VMware Fusion, enabled with the serial number temporary supplied and installed XP Professional. The platform is a relatively new Mac Mini running the current operating system. My Internet access is through a DSL modem/router which requires a system of client and enter a serial number from 10 numbers as a key.

    I don't seem to have access to the Internet on my PC of VM. I'm pretty new to do something meaningful on Windows; can someone tell me how to configure it to access the Internet? I just need to be headed in the right direction; I am sure that I have all the configuration information that I need.

  • must restart every day for internet access

    Every day for 4 days, I had to restart my Imac before I can access the internet, download my mail etc.  Once I do all works very well.  I am running OSX Yosemite 10.10.5.  I have my router (ATT) at the top of my list of preferred wifi.  Any suggestions?

    I would like to access wireless internet on a laptop (XP; Atheros 802. 11 b / g) with a desktop computer (Win64) that currently, I connect to the internet using a broadband USB connect the device (AT & T USB Mercury).  How can I build a local network of the desktop that I'll be able to connect in the House with the laptop?  Are there restrictions and limitations when using this type of internet connectivity vs a wired version?  (Because of where we live there is no availability ADSL or cable, just wireless).

    Thanks for posting. From your post, it seems you are trying to send a signal from your desktop to your laptop using a wireless signal wireless. It is here that I don't see where you have any broadcasting wireless signal from your desktop. If this is the case, then the current senerio would not possible to establish ICS and have it function to your laptop.

    I tried for the past 2 weeks, try to configure my WRT54G Router, so it allows me to access the Lacie on the internet without success. I followed all the instructions of Lacie and all other FAQ and help on the internet, still no luck. I spent several days with Lacie tech support and they could not understand it - why my router would allow me access via internet. I hope that the big guns here can help me.

    I have a number of laptops connected to my local network and all wireless laptop can access the NAS Lacie cable to one of the ports on my router. My whole system works wonderful locally.

    The Lacie received a static IP address to 192.168.1.199

    My local network has an IP departure from 192.168.1.150 and ends to 192.168.1.199

    My router IP is 192.168.1.99

    I've assigned port forwarding to my Lacie (192.168.1.199) for ports

    20, 21, 25, 80 and 443.

    I tried other settings but no help. Help, please!

    My RV042 must be reset whenever I need to have access to the net.  He works for some time and I need to reset it again.  I tried to reset the settings, reinstall the latest firmware (V latest 1.3.19xxx available on the website for my version).

    I have to add a few questions:

    1. Have you tested WAN2? If Yes, do you have the same results?
    2. You can test WAN1 by plugging the router replacing the modem plug WAN1 into a replacement router LAN port? (Double-NAT) Ensure that routers have different LAN IPs before doing this.

    What is the brand and model of your computer?

    This could be caused due to various reasons.

    -Due to the wireless router settings.

    -Due to the IP address.

    Follow the following troubleshooting methods:

    Method 1: I suggest you to reset the wireless router and check if this solves the problem manually.

    Consult the router's manual to know how to manually reset the router.

    Method 2: Reset TCP/IP and check if this solves the problem.

    Follow these steps:

    a. press the Windows key (start screen will popup), type cmd on the right click of the screen prompt, select run as administrator.

    b. at the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) that follows the command, and then press ENTER:
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

    c. Note: If you do not specify a path of the directory for the log file, use the following command:
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    d. restart the computer.
