Windows 8 requires a DVD player, not a CD player, if you have a CD player, you will need to use the upgrade wizard and the installation of Windows XP. (in addition, there are no Windows XP SP4)

You must make sure that your computer supports Windows 8:

  • Computer turns on but does not boot to Windows, startup repair does not work

    When I turn on my laptop, it brings me to a screen titled "Windows Error Recovery" which means the following:

    "Windows did not start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. »

    He asks me if I want to '(recommended) launch Startup Repair' or 'Start Windows normally'.

    When I select repair system, the screen turns off for half a second only and brings back me to the exact page as I was already on.

    When I select "Start Windows normally", he brings me to the loading screen that usually starts with Vista (anyone who says (c) Microsoft Corporation), except that it never stops loading.  I left for hours, and he was still on the same screen.

    I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 with a processor Intel Core 2 Duo and Windows Vista Basic.

    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
  • System does not boot into Windows when a USB is installed
    It's strange.  I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade (64-bit) of a previous Vista machine.  Has made the choice of 'Upgrade '.  Now that it is finally installed and get some of the bugs resolved, a question I still have is when a (key, post HD) USB device is installed in the machine and I run a reboot or extinguished/turned on, the system starts to boot, runs through the BIOS section, but just before trying to start Windows I get a fast blinking cursor in the upper left of my screen.  If I remove all the devices usb between PC and manually must shut down and restart it restarts in Windows very well.  What is the problem?
    Desktop HP M9350F model; 64-bit; BIOS Rev 5,29 (28/04/09); BIOS Boot Priority: floppy, CD, HD, network (note: there is no other choice shown/available USB?)
    Maybe someone else has had this problem and an easy fix is avaiable.  Thank you!
    CD,
    Well believe it or not, I realized the problem.  Not the BIOS.
    One program, I have installed is SecureDoc WinMagic.  It's encryption software, although my drive has (yet) been encrypted.  In fact I had contacted the Lim before this same thread started to think it might be because of that, but he told me it was probably my BIOS and nothing to do with their SW.
    However, last night I decided to remove their SW before my "repair" operation was scheduled.  How to have this removed SW, it's just our curiosity, I decided to start once more with a USB device installed to see if the hang up has continued.   By my surprise, the start went as usual by means of windows and office.  DAMN!  all this time lost, mine and yours!
    I contacted the company SW this morning and they found a way to modify their SW and get the boot to work (always with the unencrypted disc).
    I wanted you and someone on this thread to know the outcome, so if this happens in the future with another user, this can help to avoid long-term on unnecessary troubleshooting.
    Thank you once again for all the time you have helped me with this issue!
  • Tecra A2 does not boot to Windows
    My Tecra A2 has suddenly stop windows boot.
    I get the screen "We apologize for the inconvenience...". "who says Windows shut so unexpectedly and asked to choose how I want to start (Safe Boot, known parameters of Las, Normally etc.)
    When I choose one of those Win XP start screen comes for awhile, then the PC reboots and the screen "We apologize for the inconvenience...". ' rises again.
    Any ideas how solve/fix this?
    And what do you think could be done to solve this problem?
    What do you think of reinstall Windows?
    In my opinion, it is a very good solution for this problem. Just boot from the Toshiba Recovery disk and follow the instructions on the screen. All that s!
    Or you take a drive to Microsoft and download the drivers from the Toshiba site.
    Good luck!
  • computer not boot vista windows after moving it __error message: reboot and select the right Boot device.___or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and pressed key__
    My computer worked fine Windows Vista Home Premium. I stop him, he moved to another room, reconected everything and now it won't start. I just got this message:
    First: Hardware Monitor with a lot of temperature and tensions etc.
    Then: Reboot and select proper boot device.
    or insert media in selected Boot device key start and pressed
    You will probably have to open the computer case and check the cable from hard drive, graphics card, RAM, etc., to make sure everything is neat and tight fitting.
    Remove cards, and then reinstall them using to ensure that they are properly installed.
  • my laptop not boot to windows
    I have a HP Pavilion laptop model # dv6t-6100 running Windows 7 premium. When I turn it on it bios password then comes up with a message that says that there is a missing required to start component check with your manufacturer.
    I tried the recovery console, there is no repair option, only the tests. Windows startup options (F8) I tried each item listed and it will switch from a windows load the files, then it restarts and goes back to the same error message. I think it's maybe the mbr, but I don't know how to replace it. I finally created a disc that allows me to get to a command prompt, but does not meet the command dir. I tried a Windows 7 OEM installation disc and click Repair, then selected for U.S. as keyboard etc., click on start and he sits with a cursor of time on the screen when you select the Win OS you want to repair. The only thing to do at this point is pressed the power button and turn it off. Anyone has any ideas I'm open to suggestions?
    Hello
    A short drive Self Test failure seems to indicate that the drive is defective and must be replaced - it is also compatible with the problems you describe.
    If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disc replaced.
    If you live in the United States, contact HP here.
    If you are in another part of the world, begin here.
    If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, please let me know - take account of the capacity of the HARD disk you currently have.
  • My computer does not boot to windows...
    I have an inspiron 1525 with vista. my computer turns on, then it comes to a screen that has two options: run the Startup Repair tool and start windows normally. If you select Launch Startup Repair tool, it returns the same screen. This leaves you with only the option to start windows normally. used to work startup repair. I tried several times, but it has not fixed the problem. Restore my computer to a restore point, the first time she did nothing much next time. Then by selecting this option, you referred in the same screen. When you start windows normally, it is a screen that says:
  • Boot Camp Windows 10 Upgrade does not work
    Hello world!
    I use Windows 7 Professional SP1 with boot camp, I managed to function very well.
    I bought a legal copy of Windows 7 Professional and active, it yesterday, so all is good and works as it should (more or less)
    I did it on my iMac 5 k (end of 2014). I use version 6 of boot camp and installed all updates in OSX as well on Windows 7 via the apple software update tool.
    Now, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 but somehow it does not work for me as it should.
    I am able to do 10 downloaded Windows and Setup will start, but immediately after it will crash.
    I use the German version so I can only tell you what is presented here:
    "eine handcrafted befehlszeile [/DynamicUpdate] angegeben wurde.
    I don't know what the problem is, I tried 3 times more using the Microsoft upgrade page.
    I also tried the MediaCreationTool but I still get the same error at the beginning of the installation.
    What I need to install additional drivers on my USB dongle or do I have to remove my USB mouse and the USB dongle (which is always to have the files to install boot camp Windows 7 top)?
    I don't see what else to do and hope that someone here knows how to perform the upgrade properly.
    Kind regards
    ela7ion
    Update!
    The upgrade succeeded finally!
    I managed to do the upgrade after removing all devices that are connected to the iMac before.
    This includes:
    -SuperDrive
    -USB mouse
    -USB dongle
    I then started the tool to upgrade from the Microsoft Web site and guess what: it worked.
    Best regards
  • Windows Boot Manager - windows does not have charge as the HAL is missing
    What does that mean? What should I do to fix? I have no windows installation cd that I bought the laptop with all the software on it - it was a demo in Comet
    Hello
    I guess the \System32\Hal.dll is missing.
    This means that your windows operating system must be reinstalled.
    I put t know what laptop you have, but I think that the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator was preinstalled on your laptop. This software creates recovery Toshiba DVD, that help you to reinstall the operating system. But now he s at the end you can not boot into the operating system.
    You can try this:
    Press F8, choose repair my computer, then select Toshiba HDD Recovery.
    Maybe this option is available.
    Otherwise will need you a Windows installation disc
    Anyone got any ideas on what I can do. IM resigned pretty much on the fact that Im going to lose everything that I just need the computer to the top and running again as soon as I can.
    Thank you very much
    Until one of the experts can give you advice on the repair of your Vista system, you might like to try to recover your files. I'm not very computer literate, but managed to achieve this when I "killed" my installation of Windows 2000. I ASSUME the same process should work with Vista. (Somewhat disturbing, Windows passwords do not seem to matter.)
    Download a Linux live CD - Linux "Puppy", I found a small one - download good and easy to use. Burn the .iso file, resulting on a CD. Insert the CD into your CD/DVD drive and start the computer. Let it boot the Linux operating system. (You may need to experiment with the BIOS settings for the computer to boot from CD before its own hard drive).
    You now have a linux regardless of your hard disk operating system. (If it is one of the major Linux programs, it will be slow when run from CD - is not a problem - just requires patience!)
    With a little luck, the Linux system will see all disks connected to your computer, including your hard drive. (The same as your normal operating system sees a USB and can copy files, for example.) You might then be able to browse the files on your hard drive and copy them to a disk external drive or USB key.
    I met a few issue permissions to write to the external drive - sorry, can't remember the flippant answer but it was very simple - and had only once. Again, it just Google the problem. There are many experts Linux display discussions out there!
    This does not allow you to start your Vista system or something like that, but if you can get your files copied to a safe place, so you can just copy them back once you have reinstalled the offending Vista system.
    I'll try to provide a link to an answer that I already proposed here - Sorry, it's a little tedious, but the link it can be useful, too.
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=44736&TSTART=30
    One of those things that is easier to do than to describe, perhaps - lots on the internet about Linux rescue CD.
    I found a lot of useful articles on this google link:
    http://www.Google.co.UK/search?hl=en&q=using+a+Linux+live+CD+to+rescue+Win dows + files & btnG = Google + Search & meta =
    I've never been good by entering search terms. you will find many things better.
    But the good news is that it would be possible to recover at least some of your data before reinstalling.
    If you have not used Linux live CD before, first do some work at home. They are surprisingly easy, especially when you have overcome one or two of the usual initial traps for example try to burn the live CD as data rather than an iso CD then wonder why it won't start. Proabably more easy for you to do a little research on Google than for me to write pages here!
    Another alternative, if you're better to dismantle the computers than me, would be to remove it from your hard drive and install it in a suitable external hard drive enclosure. This can then be connected to another computer via a USB port and you should be able to read your files as if a USB flash drive and copy them. I only tried this with the old readers of old desktop computers with nothing on them that counts too - but it seems easy enough. Once again, just a way to copy all your stuff before wiping the hard drive of your laptop and reinstall Vista.
    Sorry if it was a little hike - hope that gives you some ideas.
    Hi friends,
    I have my serious to replace the Windows Vista on my desktop, I created some complications on my computer "dear."
    WIndows Xp has not been completely installed due to a driver error. Now, I have a WIndows Vista and a wrong version of Windows XP.
    I tried to replace the XP, but it seems that I have the following challenges:
    (1) the two versions of Windows (Vista and XP) are installed on one single disc itself, IE. C drive.
    (2) I formatted D drive, whereby a XP driver disappeared.
    In the current context, how can I uninstall the XP then replace Vista with a new version of XP, my C drive has little free space left due to the presence of 2 windows versions.
    Let me know the best way to go, I backed up all the data and data loss is not a concern, is of the order of the day to start!
    Thank you
