OfficeJet Pro 8600 always in color ink

I have 4 computers, printing on this printer and I put printing preferences on all levels of grey: black ink only, yet I am still uses ink of color for a reason any.  All faxes and copies that are made on the machine are in BLACK.  Please help me understand this.  Y at - it a setting I'm missing?

There are a few things to check.  Some ink will be used to keep the "plumbing" and clear print heads.  If you never run cleaning cycles (in the front panel or computer palette) ink will use black and all colors.  If the printer is off of an external switch that will serve the most ink - the printer must always be connected to a live outlet.  Finally, when you automatically print duplex some color ink will be used on the first page to set the ink more quickly so that the ink will not smear when the page is pulled back into the printer.

The document described here how the ink is used.  In the terminology of this document the 8600 Officejet Pro is an IIC printer.

I only print in black ink in all cases.  Is it possible to print only black ink without replacing color cartridges are empty ink?

In addition, if a color is exhausted, I should automaticall replace all color cartridges?

    Operating system: Windows XP

Officejet 8500 printers individual ink cartridges (IIC); This machine requires that all cartridges to be installed to ensure that the printhead not damaged. In the printer, the ink is used not only for printing, but retain the printer and the print head. We can reduce the amount of color ink, the printer uses by changing the print in grayscale settings or use black ink only. Page 34 of the Manual shows how to change these settings when you print the documents. For more information on how the ink is used in the printer; It can be considered as this page here where he goes into detail about the different ways that ink is used in the printer.
I would just replace the color cartridge the printer says needs replacement when the machine alerts you of low ink. I would replace all the colors at a time when only needs replacement.
    I hope this helps.

The printer will not print anything (including black and white which is my default setting), at least that I have installed a new yellow ink cartridge.  He says that the cartridge is exhausted and must be replaced before printing.    I have black and white printing color cartridges? Is there a solution? Thank you very much.

    DavidDavid salvation,

Yes, you will need to replace the yellow cartridge to continue printing. Here's a good explanation of the design of the print mechanism, and what is needed to keep them in good working condition. Your printer is user replaceable print head. With this printer's ink lines that need to be filled in ink in this way that the print head should not be clogged jets in turn cause poor print quality problems.

HP, as other printer manufacturers, offers you with permanent print heads printers requiring ink for all colors, avoid the print heads.  HP, like some other manufacturers, also offers printers with user replaceable print heads.  These may of may not require ink in all colors in print, even though damage may occur if the print from the cartridge empty.  Finally, HP as some other manufacturers also offers printers with the printhead into the ink supply.  He is replaced at each change of cartridge.  These printers will happily print with a diet low, empty or many deleted completely same models.

When you buy your next printer (from HP or from another manufacturer) be sure that you understand what is the type of printer and choose one that fits your needs.

  • OfficeJet PRO 8600: Exhausted color cartridges

I work at home and use the Officejet PRO 8600 to make black copies of documents that I print on my HP laserjet printer or other documents only. In very rare occasions, I'll print of the officejet.

I put the oficejet to print in black only. However, after a period of time (6 monthe or almost) the printer will specify that the color cartrides are exhausted and I need to order an other muti-pack.

Why the color cartridges must be used upwards if I do not use color cartridges? In any case to avoid?

    Thank you

There is little ink used in black and all colors at startup and when printing to prevent clogging of the nozzles.

The document described here how the ink is used.

There are a few considerations to minimize the ink used during the interview:

    • Always keep the printer plugged in to an outlet.  If an external switch (e.g. a switch power socket) is used the printer will use more ink start.
    • Do not run cleaning cycles of the façade or the Toolbox of the computer, they are rarely necessary and use in any color and black ink.
  • Officeject Pro 8600 Plus: Officejet Pro 8600 will copy in color but not print in color

I have an Officejet Pro 8600 Plus able to make copies of color, but it will not print in color of my office.  My printer uses the version of the firmware CLP1CN1416AR.  When I go to print a document in color, I go to the properties of the printer and then advanced and set print in grayscale on Off, but I get still only prints in grayscale.

    Thanks for your suggestions Zac.

    1. we have tried using several different programs (paint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, a test of the printer properties page, etc.), but all printed only in grayscale.

    2. it's connected via Ethernet cable to our Wi - Fi wireless router and then to our laptop.

    3. the ink levels are all above 40%.

I had already tried electric bike on the printer several times as well as the computer, which did not help.  I tried to change the printer settings default to print in gray and then changed them back to the color, but that did not help either.  I tried resetting the printer, mentioned in another thread (unplug the power cord at the back of the printer, while he was conducting, then unplug the power transformer in the decision-making, hold button power printer for 60 seconds, then reconnect the), but which did not help either.  Finally, I uninstalled the Windows printer and reinstalled a couple of times, and finally, it started working properly again, so, apparently, there was a problem with the driver who eventually got cleared up by reinstalling the printer/software/drivers.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 n911g: ink level 8600 rest from scratch with new 950XL

My black cartridge in my 8600 printer ran out of ink. I had already replaced all the colors of three cartridges with a 951XL defined, a month or two ago, and the process went smoothly as planned. Today after replacing the black cartridge, adjustment noise seemed short, and the façade is estimated ink level zero rest.

    I tried the following diagnosis:

    -Reinsert the black print cartridge

    -Reinsert all four cartridges

    -market power

    -a second new HP 950XL

    -test page

    -the print head alignment

    -clean the printhead

-Printing HP and doctor Scan, install and run - prompted me to update software - which did not fix the problem

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600: Printer does not print in color

I just got the color cartridges refilled at Costco. Now, my printer does not print in color.  I printed out a diagnosis and cartridges are showing that they are full.  The actual color of magenta is a deep rose, so I know that some of the magenta is crossing. • OfficeJet Pro 8600: Ink Officejet Pro 8600

According to the "indication of the ink level", magenta was about 10% or 15%, cyan was 0% and yellow was about 95%. " Black is 25%.
I replaced the cyan cartridge and before I can even print a single page, magenta level is reported in 0% and still I can not print.
Can you explain how the magenta level can go from 10% to 0% by simply changing the cyan cartridge? If there is ink in the cartridge magenta before the cyan cartridge has been changed, why are there no ink in the magenta cartridge after that the cyan cartridge has been changed?

    Hey @ellioto,

I see you have some problems with the ink level on your Officejet Pro 8600 e-all-in-one printer. I can help you with that.

What is happening is that the gauges are showing you an approximation of the amount of ink remaining in each cartridge is. When you replaced the cyan, the need to align, printer cartridge that uses ink. At this time then the printer has detected that the magenta cartridge was low. Replacement of the cartridge magenta should clear the error message.

Color copies/prints are very good.  Black prints/copies have vertical lines widths, ranging from top to bottom.  This occurs when it is copied to form glass or through the feeder.

    Suggestions?

If the unit is producing lines in copies, so I suggest checking a few things. Make sure that the printer is plugged into a wall outlet directly and not in a surge protector. Additionally, make sure that the glass of the scanner (including the small strip on the left) are clean.
