OfficeJet Pro 8600 many verticle lines using 'Black' but color OK

I just bought a new 8600 Pro Officejet and found if I scan or copy of a document using 'Black' copy resulting or image (PDF) a lot of black vertical lines across the whole page.  It is not uniform, and the resulting image is unreadable.  But if I choose "Color" then all is well.

It is with the ADF and the bed.  Has anyone had this before?

My problem has been resolved by updating the firmware.  Seems that there is a defect in the earlier versions of the firmware that caused the problem.

You can get the latest firmware in the support section of the HP web site.

    Hi @realestatejeann,

I see that you have found one black vertical line when using the ADF. With a few steps, we should be able to solve this problem.

Make sure that the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (do not use a hub or a surge protector) This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.

    • Update the firmware of the printer.
    • Don't hide the SSID (network name).
    • What type of encryption are you helping? HP recommends WPA and WPA2.
    • You have a double router broadband? Make sure that the two groups were not the same network name.

If the problem persists, you may encounter an IP address conflict. It's a good idea to assign the printer a static IP address outside your DHCP range. For example, some routers default DHCP is located between 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200. So, I would use 192.168.0.232.

To assign the static IP address, use the following steps as a guide.

    • Print a Page of Network Configuration menu of the printer front panel. Note the IP printer. IPV4 address
    • Type the IP address in the browser to bring up the SAP.
    • Choose the network tab, then wireless on the left side, and then select the IPv4 tab.
    • Select Manual IP.
    • Enter your IP address manual (192.168.0.232)
    • Enter 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask, except if it is different.
    • Enter the IP address of your router that sits on the Network Configuration Page) for the default gateway.
    • Please, click on manual DNS server. For the preferred DNS Server Manual please enter 8.8.8.8 and the Alternate DNS Server Manual, please enter 8.8.4.4.
    • Click on apply.
    • Restart the router, the printer and the computer.
    • Test printing and scanning.

If the problem persists, download and run this patch rollup: resolving printing issues in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

    • Try printing and scanning.

In addition, if you are still having problems try the steps in this guide, HP printers - "offline" Status Message printer (Windows 7).

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus: vertical line when scanning

I get a vertical line when I scan using the document feeder.  I do not understand when scanning the glass plate. I need assistance to access the mirror slider.  I raised the lid for the loading of documents, but I couldn't find out how to get under the rollers to clean the mirror. Thank you

The document here can help solve the black lines to scan using the ADF on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  From my experience this is almost always caused by a specification on the thin glass on the side left which is used for scanning using the ADF.  Cleaning of this area as described in the above document should solve the problem.  If the initial cleanup does not resolve the problem, it can help to shine a bright flashlight almost parallel to the glass.  For a line on the left side of the printed page, the place will be toward the front of the printer, if the line is on the right side of the document, it must correspond to a specification to the rear of the printer.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600: Officejet Pro 8600 copies are almost completely black

Copies of the Officejet Pro 8600 are almost completely black.  The party central - perhaps an ich in width - is somewhat readable.  Printed documents are okay. This printer is 2.5 years old and worked fine in what concerns all the until today.  Thank you.

Hello @Tim1943 and welcome to the Forums of HP, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see that you use in the copy output problems.  I would like to help!

I would recommend starting with a power reset.  Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug back in the printer. Make sure that you connect the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any surge protector or power bar.

I suggest you then plug the power to the printer into a different wall outlet.

Another recommendation would be updated the firmware of the printer:

  • Clubhouse 23 HP: HP Officejet Pro 8600 is offline to a computer, but not the other

In our office network, we have problems with printing. We have several computers set up in the network and all print on the same printer, our HP Officejet Pro 8600. However, you can print from all except one. It reports an error in offline mode. Usually, rebooting the computer and the printer solved that problem, now, is not the case. I uninstalled the printer, reinstalled and it worked temporarily. I also disconnected from the network to the printer and the computer and reconnected them both. I have also shut down the computer, the printer and the router and restarting their router, printer, and then computer. I still have the same problem with just a computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I solved the problem on my own. I had to remove all the devices on the network printer and reinstall on all devices.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600: Printing vertical lines when you use doc auto power

I cleaned the optical window such as suggested in other posts. However, this has not fixed the problem for me.

The vertical line is the center of the page, from top to bottom.

    Hello @KR76,

I'd be happy to help you with your problem of copy on your OfficeJet Pro line 8600.

Basically, the line is created if any part of the scanner glass and the scanner cover fingerprints fingerprints, stains, lint, dust, or other debris or scratches. To resolve this problem, clean the ADF scanner glass Strip, the ADF white plastic band on the underside of the scanner cover, the underside of the scanner cover and the scanner glass. You need to repeat the cleaning several times to fix this.

The document that will guide you through the inspection and cleaning of these independent pieces would be; Vertical stripes, lines or streaks in the Copies, faxes, or scans.

    Take note of the following in the document;

Warning: Only use a glass cleaner to clean the scanner glass. Don't use of cleaners containing abrasives, acetone, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride. These substances can damage the printer. Avoid alcohol isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) because it can leave scratches on the glass.

Warning: To protect the scanner are not spray the glass product directly on the glass.

Please let me know if any of these steps has resolved your problem, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hear from you!

    Thank you

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600: Thin vertical lines when printing photos

The printer referenced did a fabulous job to print photographs.  In this case, the printer is fairly recent and has recently recently consumed the original cartridges when it was decided to try to use it for photo printing.  Therefore, the fabulous results were extracted relatively new cartridges and consisted of at least a dozen photo printing in various sizes.  Then all of a sudden these thin vertical straight lines began to appear in print.  They are equidistant on the full image.  That they appear in the printed image.  When using paper letter (8.5 x 11) to print an image cropped at 8 x 10 with landscape orientation spacing is about 1 1/8 (one and one-eighth) inches or 8 evenly spaced vertical lines.  Somewhat like the photo was divided into 8 columns.

According to the printer built in ink gauge, that the cartridges are now just a little more than half full.

These lines are narrow enough so that they are not very visible when printing on normal paper (copy).  They would probably be imperceptible on many kinds of printed documents.  However, they become quite noticeable and reprehensible when using good quality (in this case HP) photo paper to print photos.

Absence of a printer resolution is not good for photo printing.

In addition to the troubleshooting suggests that the problem is not due to the printer, but rather to the software used to perform the printing. It was not immediately obvious that I printed only photos using Picasa and it worked fine and then all of a sudden the problem developed. However, I have now tried to print the same photos with other software and there is no problem for the steps.

The Picasa forum also has many messages wanting to be the same or a similar problem to what I have experienced. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an explanation for a repeatable cause, nor a specific solution. Some hacking autour with the settings and options seems to be in order. If it does not then print with other software may be necessary.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus N911G: Cannot use the Scan to PC, option on my printer

I recently updated from Windows 8.1 for Windows 10 and had to reinstall my printer drivers and software.  Since doing so, the office of my printer scanning function did not work.

When I use the option on the printer, I get the message that no computer I'm done to open the HP printing software, select the scanner actions and select manage the scan of the computer.  The only thing is that twhen, I go to the HP folder in my Start menu, there is no installed printer HP software.

I went to the page support and download the complete software solution for my printer and ran the installation, but I still do not have anything that will allow me to select the actions of scanner, and then select manage the scan of the computer.

I even tried to use HP Print and scan v4.7 doctor.  He said full software solution is not installed on my computer and it gives me a button to click to download the software, and it is said that it downloads all the 123 file meg, then it gives me an error download failed message and offers try again immediately, but it fails every time.

My printer is connected to my PC via my WIFI router.

    Hey there,
Try the next step, I believe that this will help you overcome the problem.
    1. remove the printer driver of "devices and printer" which is located in Control Panel.
2 Download this file (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40120/bi-108858-4/OJ8600_1315-1.exe), which is the solution full HP JO 8600 series.
    3. extract the contents of the file.
    4. open the "Utils" folder and choose the folder 'x 64', inside you should be able to locate a file called "RemovePreInstalledDrivers" > once you open this file black screen opens, wait for it to close, then move to the next step.
    5. go to the main folder where you have already extracted the software and right click on the file x 64.msi (name is most likely your printer model), then choose the Option "repair". > Subsequently, you will be asked of preformed a reboot. (Incase you will get a Messege saying "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed" simply double-click the file instead)
    6. after the restart, the head disk Local C/ProgramFiles/HP/PrinterModelFolder/bin/USBSetupLuncher and double click it.
7 start the installation, choose the wireless option.

Who should add the scanner to your imaging devices.
    Best Of luck ~
