Pavilion Elite M9040N: Installation of an SSD

During the holidays, I bought a Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB 2.5 inch SATA III internal SSD.  I bow very mechanical but not a computer "Wiss Kid."  Can someone explain to me that steps must replace the "C" drive shipped with this computer and install the SSD that I bought.  I'll install Windows and Office 365 Personal 8.1.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and have a great year.

Thanks for 'ALL' your tips.  Wish me good luck.

I have a Pavilion Elite M9040N media center desktop computer and it began to turn and turns off constantly.  The fans, the DVD player and the power that all light turns on for about 3-4 seconds then it turns off for 3-4 seconds, then starts the cycle again.  Does not get the bios start and nothing appears on the monitor.  I changed the power supply hoping that was the problem but no luck.

    Final update

Thus, the slot and off tension of the issue was due to a fault on the motherboard.  In order to get what they functional system once again I have had to replace the motherboard and video card (I don't know why, but this card is not as well).  I also replaced both of the hard drives, upgrade to the C: 1.5 TB drive and a D: 2 TB drive and power.  I bought a new copy of windows 7 64 bit and did a new install and updated all the drivers.  I was able to transfer all of our data, photos, music, etc. among the old readers on the nine with an external SATA cable.

I'm happy to be up and running again but in hindsight, I have pretty much rebuilt all of the computer.  I hope that this will last a few years.

    Hello.

-can not configure windows to run on this computer-

the original hard drives are Seagate 750 GB

After looking at the seagate, I see written firmware hp34

This means that I have to buy seagates? or HP seagates?

is there a way around it?

installation of w7 on Pavilion elite 020nl

    Hello:

The only suggestion I can offer is to try the following if you have found that windows cannot be installed on this hardware error...

Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed - 32 or 64 bit depending on the case).

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?AGR=Y & ProdId = 2101 & DwnldID = 23060 & Keyword = Intel + rapi...

Extract the files on a usb flash drive.

With the flash player and the installation of W7 media connected to the computer, boot from the installation of W7 media.

After selecting the install now option, select the training - Advanced menu, Options and select the option load a driver.

You should now see the storage driver files listed.

If you check the box, it only includes the compatible driver.

Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 should install.

    Hello @TimT1,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, so many other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff.

I stumbled upon your post on the SSD question and wanted to help!

Based on Product Specifications of your office, your motherboard supports the hard following:

    • 640 GB SATA 3 G (3.0 Gb/s)
  • Pavilion g7 1070US: installation of new SSD

I'm helping a friend with a HP Pavilion g7 1070US laptop. His original hard drive crashed and we bought a PNY 960 GB SSD drive to replace its old WD 500 GB. We were able to restore his old Win 7 because while trying to create a USB startup device the MS site says our OEM license. So we bought a new Win 10 license with a USB and when you try to start the message; "Core security check failed" appears, and the computer restarts then cycling in the same message. I tried to boot from another key USB and DVD ROM created by MS media creator but the same warning message appearing.

Later we have formatted the drive outside the laptop with a SATA adapter.  Reset us the BIOS by default. The drive is recognized by the internal BIOS diagnostic and test memory was also executed.  Both pass.  However, whenever a start is attempted the system responds with a BSOD and the message; "The verification of the security kernel failure".  All the world is facing a situation difficult always. I even bought an old copy of Win 7 Home edition and the installation CD has the same problem.

    Any suggestions...

  • Hard disk Solid State for HP Pavilion Elite m9040n

Can anyone recommend a Solid State Hard Drive?

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9040n Desktop and Fire Wire 1394

I have the above mentioned Office. It has a plugin from 1394 to the front of the case. The Pavilion comes with all the software to pull wire work? I backed up my hard drive on a Toshiba external drive with a USB cable, the other day and it took 6 hours. Is not fire wire suppost to transfer data faster than a USB cable? Are there special things I need to know when buying FireWire 1394.

I was looking on the internet the other day and they showed the son of fire with pins 4 and 6. Looking into the hole on my computer, it only looks like 3 terminals?

    Thank you

    Rick, welcome to the forum.

There is no necessary software for Firewire (IEEE 1394-a).  The driver is installed with the operating system.

Here is the page of the following motherboard for the computer.  It only shows that there is a Firewire (IEEE 1394) (# 11) port in return IO ports.

Here is an article that shows the comparison of speed vs. Firewire USB.  FireWire was developed by Apple.

I hope this information answers your questions.

  • HP Pavilion Elite HPE-540me: adding an SSD (SATA III) for HP Elite desktop computer. Is this possible?

    Dear Experts...

I want to upgrade my computer by adding an SSD as a master drive and move the original 2 TB drive to be a slave.

I found several coices of SSDS, but almost all of them are SATA III interface.

Is my office supports this interface? as it is just written that it has a SATA interface without specifying what version of SATA!

How many hard drives could this office holds? I already have two (the original 2 TB and my old drive 256 GB) and I wand to add a SSD for Windows and the progs.

Can I purchase this SSD for example? Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-series 500 GB 2.5 inch SATA III single-unit Version internal Solid State...

It is the official my desktop HP specifications page .

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

It has 2 bays free HARD disk as on its specifications:

    http://h20564.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docid=emr_na-c02781215

You can trade SSDS on your machine and make the old HDD as a secondary drive ("slave"). SATA III is backwards compatible so you can use it. Since then have been smaller SSD (normally 2.5 "), something that is similar to one of the following media:

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9040n Desktop PC card mother Layout

I have a desktop HP m9040n and was tinkering autour inside. Long story short, I don't remember where the 2 hard drives and the cd player plug on the motherboard. All 3 are sata and can't seem to understand what command and ports as sata cables plug in. If someone could help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01077641

Hello Bostel, when you look at the motherboard in the case, the lower right corner is where the Sata ports.

The port0 is on the right of the Sata ports closer to the top of the Board of Directors. This is the port where the hard drive0 or hard drive must be connected to.

The port in front is where I connect the second hard drive and the port under the port1 is where to connect the DVD player.

It was suggested that the Sata port0 is the boot hard drive port, but I connected the hard disks and DVD drives at all of these ports at one time or another and found no difference in the performance of the system.

This could make a slight difference if you have the hard drive configured in a Raid array.

  • Upgrade HP Pavilion Elite m9040n PC (GN553AA) second hard disk (e :))

The only upgrade to the office, is that it is now running Windows 8 32-bit Pro. The second disc (E is the original disk of 320 GB.) What is the most big hard disk (in GB or TB) can I put in to replace the secondary hard drive (E?)  The BIOS is running with the delivered version.

    Hey HPbinary,

Most SATA drives should work in the system, so, basically, any capacity will be fine.

  • What cases does the HP Pavilion Elite m9040n use?

I want to put new parts inside, because it is quite old. I want to know if all the pieces of my will enter into it. I looked around, the only thing I could find on it is that it is a medium-sized ATX. You are looking for an exact name please!

    Yareen, welcome to the forum.

It takes a Micro-ATX motherboard (Micro-ATX-24, 4 cm (9.6 inches) x 24.4 cm (9.6 in).  The key is to ensure that the spacers for the motherboard in the case match the holes in the motherboard.  This may be a problem with new motherboards and old cases.

Well, to tell you the truth, if you don't want to buy a new computer, I would buy a new case for less than $100 and a motherboard to match.  It would be much easier.  Of course, you can always buy a new HP desktop computer.

  • power cable 4-pin internal for a HP Pavilion Elite m9040n

I just installed a USB 3.0 card which needs a 4 connector pins for power. There are several connectors which are white and numbered P1, P2, P3, etc. and so forth. From what I can tell, they resemble power wires to the other devices on the computer (DVD. There is a double connector coming out of them to be used for the power supply to the USB card. I think correctly? There is a power cord two USB2 plugins on the front of the computer who probably will not be used anymore. Can I steal power of this connector? Thank you

If you had mentioned the map accurate usb 3.0 (by name), a definitive answer would have been returned. Connectors 4 pin would be a four pin peripheral or the old floppy power plug. Here is a page that describes them.

    Hi all!

I would like to replace the original hard drive came with my desktop HP Pavilion Elite HPE-500f with an SSD, but when I tried, I got the error message that my SSD drive was not big enough. The original hard drive is 1.35 TB. What size an SSD should be to replace the original CT 1.35 supplied with my HP so that I could use the 1.35 disc as my second drive and the ssd as my main drive?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Yes I think a 240 GB SSD would be sufficient.  Using the hard drive for storage is a good idea.

These articles HOWTO HP should be useful.

You should be able to install the SSD in the existing hard drive cage as it is put into service for three hard drives.  Use a 2.5 "to 3.5" adapter.  You also need a SATA data cable.

Don't forget to create the external recovery media and backup your data.
