PRSM and CDA on management of VMware Esxi 5.5

Hello

PRSM and CDA is currently supported to run on ESXi 5.0. Does anyone know if these will be available to run on Esxi 5.5 anytime soon?

The guides say ESXi 5.0; but I installed both and have them works fine on an ESXi environment 5.5.

I doubt you will see any significant development on PRSM given emphasis on solutions that focus on the power of fire. We COULD see an incremental version officially supported update - that is more a question of a validation of tests than any real product development.

This is my opinion on the matter - mind only since Cisco does not generally to the roadmap plans public release.

  • Problem with the start of VMware ESXi 5.0

I just installed VMware ESXi 5.0 on a new Cisco UCS B200 series blade with two 300 GB hard drives configured in a RAID 1 mirror.  I went through and completed the installation of VMware ESXi 5.0 on this server.  When the installation is complete and the server restarted, he did not initiate the ESXi where I can change the IP address and VLAN.  Instead, I get this text string after the initial boot sequence that is shown in the attachment.  I have a guest who said Shell > do not know why I can not start correctly in ESXi 5.0.  Thank you!  Paul

    Hi Paul,.

Looks like you boot to the EFI shell. What is the startup policy that you have configured on this server service profile? It should look like the one below.  If there is a problem with the boot order, you should be able to type "EXIT", then enter on the EFI shell to exit the prompt. If your startup is similar to the one below and you still experience this issue, try to downgrade and re - ack the blade.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Why VMWare ESXi 5 slow down access to IBM M1015 / LSI 9240-8i RAID?

I build servers for virtualization and wanted to go with VMWare ESXi 5. I configured RAID10 on 4 discs attached to the IBM M1015 internal RAID controller (similar to LSI 9240-8i) and installed ESXi without any problem. Only problem is that copying data to the data store (on the RAID array) on the host is slow - about 20 MB/s. And I get about the same speed when you try to copy data to a shared folder on the guest virtual machine. The host network is auto-négociée with switch 1000Mbit 1000Full and I used vmxnet3 vm card in the guest computer.

When I install MS Hyper-V on the same exact server with the exact same table RAID10 I get around 110 MB/s speed to copy data to the Hyper-V host.

I used the latest drivers available for each system:

    ESXi 5 - LSI_5_34-455140.zip\scsi-megaraid-sas-5.34-1vmw.500.0.0.406165.x86_64.vib

    Windows - 5.2.112

I have even updated the firmware card 20.10.1 - 0077.

This card is entry level but recommended on different places for ESXi. What I am doing wrong? Am I missing something?

    Thank you

As I mentioned earlier, ESXi does not have caching at the level of the BONE, unlike HyperV.

  • Cisco ISO Custom - VMWare ESXi 5.5 Upd 2 - VMware Update Manager still shows update 2 required

    Hi all

I just updated one of my guests with the latest cisco image provided on the vmware website (Vmware-ESXi-5.5.0-2068190-custom-Cisco-5.5.2.3).  After the application as an upgrade of the host and then doing a scan against the host in the Update Manager, it shows that ESXi complete update 2 is missing?

I know this is maybe more a problem of vmware, but wanted to see if someone had run into this?

This thank you for the quick response.

  • VCenter Server first to 5.5.0U3b update and later update of VMware ESXi ESX / will I have problems?

    Hello

have trouble when I first updated my signature single vCenter Server and later update my vSphere hosts?

A vCenter Server Version 5.5.0U3b should be able to manage vSphere Host Version 5.5.0 GA, right?

    Kind regards

    Roland

The vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 b can manage VMware ESXi ESX release GA to 5.5 5.5 update 3 b, take a look: VMware product interoperability Matrices

BUT, according to the interoperability matrices and vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 release notes, VMware strongly recommends you upgrade your hosts to 5.5 update 3 b, see:

    What's new

    • Update Support for the SSLv3 Protocol is disabled by default
Note: In your vSphere environment, you must update vCenter Server vCenter Server 5.5 update 3 b before the update to 5.5 ESXi ESXi update 3 b. vCenter Server will not be able to manage 3B ESXi 5.5 update, if you update ESXi before update vCenter Server to version 5.5 update 3 b. For more information about the sequence in which vSphere environments must be updated, see KB 2057795.
    • VMware strongly recommends you update ESXi hosts to ESXi 5.5 update 3 b management of vCenter Server 5.5 updated 3B.
VMware does not recommend the reactivation of SSLv3 because of the vulnerability of POODLE. If all you must enable SSLv3, you must activate the SSLv3 Protocol for all components. For more information, see

  • IP address of management VMWare ESXi 4.0.0 decline in traffic

I have a new HP DL380 G6 server, install VMWare ESXi 4.0 with HP customizations, fresh and is having trouble with the IP address of management only.

This server has 4 NETWORK ports in it, and initially tried to add all 4 ports shared resources to ESXi. But then I ran into problems with the vSphere Client and he loses communication with the ESXi server. So, I tried to set up just 1 NIC port dedicated to the management with no network VLAN. It has a static IP address. I tried swapping network cables, check the switch port settings, etc..

Funny is that the machine on that host virtual all work very well and respond well to network traffic.

Also, I tried to update the firmware on the HP and NIC server without any change in improving. I lose about 40% of the traffic on the ip address of management and some problems when I need to manage this server. Yet once the VM seems to work well. If I reset the management interface to the management of the t server comes back and starts to work immediately. But, given a short while she appears to hang for 5 minutes and then starts working again.

    Any suggestions?

I think that there is some confusion on the wording.

When you talk about "Routing" on a HP Procurve, actually in comparison "Etherchannel" on a Cisco switch. And when you speak of a 'trunk' port on a Cisco switch, it is called a 'marked port' on the Procurve software.

From what you write, I assume you are using a Procurve and created a trunk for aggregation of links. In this case, you will need to define the strategy of virtual switch to "Route based on the IP hash" as already mentioned AndreTheGiant.

However, I would suggest leave you politics vSwitch failing "Route based on the virtual origin of switch port code" and set the physical switch ports 'labelled' (or 'trunk' for Cisco). In this way, you can configure them VLAN on groups of virtual ports and uplinks attached to this vSwitch are affected alternating.

  • How will be manage vmware esxi without vmware IC

I installed vmware esxi, this is a really wonderful app

use vmware infrastructure client to manage esxi, but it's 60 days trial,

is there one free another way to manage esxi after expiry of vm IC

    Thanks for your replies

The VIClient comes free with ESXi, too. Do you have a free license for ESXi? It's probably the ESXi and not the VIClient which expires.

    Kind regards

  • Path to upgrade VMware ESXi Management Kit

I am interested in the offer of VMware ESXi Management Kit, but want to know if it will work with our plans for the future. I am particularly interested in the vCenter Foundation to allow us to track the performance of the server.

At the moment we have an ESXi server and could get a second in the near future. End of the year, however, we plan to invest in standard with HA or possibly Enterprise with VMware vMotion. That we will be able to use the Foundation of this package vCenter in this future configuration? The host licenses are only for ESXi and we will have to buy new ones? If we do not upgrade vCenter or host is a way of evolution at discount prices or we will have to buy new ones?

Budget is a problem then if we cannot reuse this in our final configuration so I won't be able to justify the cost.

    Thank you.

vCenter Foundation lets you connect an ESX host 6CPU value.  Is not serious ESXi or ESX.  If you use two connectors boxes, then as soon as you add a 4th host computer, you will need to update your vCenter license.  There is a reference number which allows a foundation upgrade to vCenter Standard.  What it is offhand, I don't know, but your dealer can help you with that.

In regard to 'free' with vCenter ESXi usage, you can not.  You must register (at least) Foundation for each ESX/ESXi host, you want to manage via vCenter.  Pay the $995 (list price) gets you the "VirtualCenter Agent" that is needed to connect to vCenter.  Note: You can install ESXi, play with it for as long as you want, but once you want to attach to vCenter, you will need the license... but there is No change to the ESXi host... you just load the license file in vCenter and you'll be all set.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hot migration is possible with VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 without an ESX server management

Hot migration is possible with VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 without an ESX server management?
I wonder for a future issue, a scenario where a system administrator must build a Win2008 + DC on local storage, server
then, once the physical box is integrated into the class network, the physical box is connected to the classified SAN storage.
Is it possible to hot - migrate the server Win2008 + CC local storage to SAN storage at this time, with only the
free version of VMWare ESXi 5.1.0?

Welcome to the community - I guess that you are looking to do this, while the virtual machine is currently running - this is not possible without a management server, also called vCenetr, but all is not lost because you would be able spend the VM local storage to the San with the VM posered using the client storage management features

  • VMWare ESXi and HP DL380 G8 - clarification

    Hello

We do a refresh of the server and would like to clarify the situation with the HP DL380 g-8 servers.

1 Installing vSphere that esxi is to use the free ESXi version/trial provided by HP and no VMWare downloads

    2. we can install versions 5.0 or 5.1 provided by HP

    3. we can buy our standards for VMware vSphere licenses and use them with installing ESXi provided by HP

    4. Update/service packs for ESXi are those provided by VMware and not HP

    5. the ESXi ISO provided by HP must just make sure that all the drivers for the new generation of server are included in the ESXi Server

    I'm largely correct?

    The commenst are welcome.

    Kind regards

    itatcapital

    I see that DL 380e G8 and G8 380P DL are supported.

I recommend you to contact HP support and check with them.

  • VMware ESXi 4.1.0 and snapshot problem - no disk space

    Hi all

We now have a big problem with our free space on the disk. We are using VMware vSphere (vSphere Client ver 4.1.0 and VMware ESXi ver 4.1.0):

Our vm has 2 HDD (500 GB, 1 TB). Now we have only 20 GB of free disk 1 and several snapshot files. To remove the snapshot, we need more than 20 GB of free space (corect?). What we need to do more free space? We can move snapshot files from the first disk to the second disk?

    vmware_1.png

    snapshot.png

    Thanks for any help

    concerning

    Dragan

First of all, you can redirect your new snapshot on another store/disk as explained in this article "http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1002929".

Secondo, you can delete snapshot older and smaller but not all together as explained in this article by Duncan Epping "http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2008/01/07/delete-all-snapshots/."

  • Best practices in VMWare ESXi 3.5 installation and deployment of VMDK u3?

    Hi all

I'm about to implement virtualization on my business technology

I've got these resources to be used by VMWare ESXi 3.5

    Dell PowerEDGE 2950 III

    • 32 GB DDR - II 667 MHz

    • internal 4 x 500 GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD (RAID 5) - I know that it's slow to host the VMDK

    • Internal USB slot on the motherboard (but not USB flashdisk?)

    Dell PowerVault MD3000

    • 10 x 300 GB SAS 15 k RPM

    • 2 x Dual port Gigabit Ethernet NIC (x 4 in total)

    • iSCSI - 2 x Gigabit Ethernet for the switch (mute not to VLAN)

I wonder where I should install the VMWare ESXi? for the VMDK, I believe that the deployment in the SAN is the right place.

and any suggestion for the use of the SATA HARD drive internal?

any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    You mean Deployment.jpg diagram?

In this case, there is an error.

    You need a network 2, not 4.

Each controller and each NIC (on ESX) must have an IP in a net and another IP in the second NET.

ESX guests 4 targets, 2 in a net, 2 in the other.

  • Virutal Center can work next to the Vmware ESXi management package

    Hi all

VMware currently has a promotion on Vmware ESXi management kit which is basically a Virutal Center Foundation license. That being said if you already have a virtual Center Server for all of your ESX servers could run a 2nd VMware ESXi management kit virtual Center Server for all your ESXi servers in parallel? or they will conflict with each other?

My understanding is you can run as many virtual servers Center like you license but you can have than 1 ESX Server any attached to 1 Virutal host at any given time.

We run 7 instances vCenter, so yes it is possible.  In addition, as you said a host ESX (i) can be managed by a single instance of vCenter.

  • Can I install the vmware tools on a HP Proliant 380 G5 with VMware ESXi 3.5 Installable U3 with HP management components?

    Hello, I have install ESXi 3.5 U3 on a Hp Proliant 380.

I have created a virtual machine to Windows 2003, and when I want to install VMWARE TOOLS from Vmware Infrastructure Client, it does not install on the virtual machine vmware tools. Nor has received all messages from a Client Infrastructure and neither of the virtual machine.

    Why could this happen?

    Thanks in advance

    NO.

The installation of vmware tools lies in an iso file, which is located on your host ESX itself and is mounted on the virtual machine when you click "install vmware tools".

Weather or not your host has a cdrom drive is not serious, you can always add a virtual cdrom drive to your guests and use iso files, or the cdrom drive on the PC that you are using the VI client from.

If you vm doesn't have a virtual cdrom drive, it can't mount the vmware tools iso, and you cannot install the vmware tools.
