UCS C-Series call home
Hello
We have 240 servers in a Rack mount C220 we are blind regarding the hardware monitoring. Because they are backup servers we do not want traffic to cross the FI, is there a way to monitor servers with the call using a single cable without using a VIC card through an Extender. The servers PCI slots are used with 10 GB 8 GB HBAs and broadcom.

When the political configuration of Call Home to define the type of messages that I want to receive, it is necessary to disable the types that I don't want?
By default, the list of strategies is empty, but configuration guide Cisco by default, indicates "all Call Home policies are allowed to ensure that e-mail alerts are sent to all critical events in the system." Does this mean that I have to cancel each policy one by one, if I don't want to get the message?
I'm only curious to see problems on the failure of the configuration.
Thank you.
Yes, you are right... If there is an alert, that you do not want to receive, then you will need to create and set it to "disabled". Just be careful not to disable those who may represent a lost communication alert.

Omniscient contributors!
I call home configuration on our system, and I see that we need installation profiles. I inherited this system and the default profile is configured, and it seems to have only the alert 'Normal' group are entrusted to him. According to the literature, it seems to me that only the authorized system information are sent. Can anyone confirm this? If I seek only to see the material and environmental issues (thermal, failures of memory/PSU) which groups of alerts can I set up?
Thank you
Joe
There are two parameters involved here:
Level of field
Flaws in Cisco's UCS that are greater or equal to this level will raise the profile. This can be one of the following:
Criticism
Debugging
Disaster
Fatal
Main
Minor
Normal
Notification
Warning
Groups of alerts field
The group or groups which are alerted based on this profile Call Home. This can be one or more of the following:
Cisco TAC
Diagnosis
Environment
Inventory
License
Life cycle
Line card
Supervisor
Syslog port
System
Test
If you want to just receive material and the environment, verify that the group "environmental" alert.
If you select normal, you will get Minor, Major and so on.
This guide is intended UCSM 2.0, but you can get the version of the guide that you are running.

Implementation of the call home help
Hello
So I'm trying to set up notifications by e-mail to one of our UCS configurations and I run into some questions, or rather, I'm not sure what im up against.
I would like to paint a picture and see if someone can help me understand what's wrong.
I'm under the asumption that Call Home can be configured internally, without having to communicate with cisco, in order to receive email alerts whenever there are problems in the system. (the cisco assisted by an intelligent call home, that im not interested at the moment). Is it a correct assumption?
Requirements for the establishment of appeal asking conectivity ip between the interconects tissue and the smtp server. Currently the fabrics and the mail server are on different VLANS, however we have access lists to allow traffic through VLANs smtp. In addition, there are precedents of other servers on the same vlan as the tissues by communicating with the smtp server to send notifications. Thus, it is confirmed that such traffic flows between the two VLANs.
So on until the configuration.
On the general tab for call home my email is on the email field coordinated as well as in the From and reply to fields. The ip address of the smtp server and port 25 are also specified in the corresponding section.
Tab theres 3 defautl profiles (CiscoTAC-a, full_txt, short_txt) plus a profile adutional created by me. Alerts in the additional profile groups are Cisco Tac, diagnosis and environment. No other options are available. It also has 'Warning' like format Txt Full level and my email as the recipient.
In the policies tab, I activated aquipment degraded material unusable, hardware problem and link down.
So, knowing these parameters should I notifications by mail electronic wexpect when a drive goes down or, if down, link when a host starts up again (I added that one, to test the reason)? Or have I missed something. Any other info I could provide to better understand my situation?
Thanks in advance,
Stephen

Ringling College of Art & DesignStephen,
Yes, Call Home is just internal, while Smart Call Home is one that opens the case with TAC and you will pay for this feature. If you are right with your first assumption.
Regarding the link between tissues and the SMTP server, run a ping of the FIs and check connectivity, if this works, you should be fine. Orders must be:
UCS # connection local-mgmt
X.x.x.x ping B (local-Mgmt) # < if="" you="" do="" not="" specify="" the="" amount="" of="" pings="" to="" send="" with="" the="" "count",="" the="" ping="" will="" be="" an="" extended="" ping="" (="" equivalent="" to =""> t)
Settings Call Home look quite good for me, but as far I know (IMHO) unusable discs are NOT reported by Call Home while a link down is definitely declared.
Remember that policies must not only be created, they must be turned on too; and also do not forget that the system will only send classified messages according to the level that you specified (warning) in the profile you created.
You can also use this document for troubleshooting more far away, like sending an "inventory of the system" and make sure that he knew.

I hope this helps and if so, please note it.

The question about the interconnections of fabric UCS 6300 Series
Hello
I have a question about UCS 6300 Series fabric interconnects. Is this fabric UCS interconnections 6300 series integrated into the extension of tissue function? The reason why I asked this question was, when there is 6300 series fabric has been plugged UCS 5100 chassis, there is no more space to plug in extension of UCS 2200 series fabric. My understanding on the topology of the UCS, tissue extender is the connection between the blade and the fabric of the interconnections.
Thank you
Bob
Hi Bob
Yes, that's correct!
The chassis so called FI - IOM (see attachment p52); THE IOM = FEX.
I/O of the blade adapter to connect inside basket chassis, which connects to the built-in IOM.
IOM is then connected to the built-in FI.

Is there a document that indicates the maximum number of rack servers supported in UCS C-series? I did some research and did not happen to a hard number as there are blades.
Thomas
Currently with 1.4, the supported maximum is 19 (with a 6120) / 39 (with a 6140).
If you look at the attached picture, it shows the wiring necessary for the integration of the series c with UCSM.
Management (CIMC) passes through a 2248 while data cards (10 Gig ports) go directly into each of the 6100's.
Assuming no B series and 1 connection to the each FI 2248, you end up with ports 19 or 39 for a 6120 and 6140 data respectively as only fixed ports on YEW can be Server deal with. It is here that the limitation origin currently.
Thank you

Difference between House and smart call home.
To my knowledge.
Call home - configure the SMTP server and do a few other configuration, which can allow be to send emails to the recipients you want for all gravity.
Home - Smart call striving to reach the registry auto TAC for severity level.
Is this correct?
I just read the configuration guide and did not understand the importance of the priority of switching...
Shyam,
You're right about your understanding of the difference between CH and SCH.

When the phone wakes up or after a call home screen is empty
This has happened for a while, but I have yet to see discussed here. When I finish a phone call or wake up my phone or quit an application, the home screen is empty except for my wallpaper. All of my icons, including the row House, will be gone. Sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes it would stay that way until I did a battery pull. I found a way to fight against it, but that gets boring. The way to counter, it is by sliding upward on the screen to bring up the options of 3 profile, which brings usually return to normal. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
This looks like some serious lag for me. You can try to install an application cache cleaner and see if things improve. I use the Cache Cleaner by Jova. It seems to work pretty well. Whenever my phone seems to be taking it's sweet time to do the things that I just use Cache Cleaner and the phone speeds up immediately. I hope this helps.

Hi Team expert Cisco UC
We have UCS server with 2 CPU.
UCS-C210M2-VCD2 x 1
Bare metal UCS C210M2 Svr., 2xE5640 CPU, 48GB RAM, 10x146GB HARD disk
UC - A01 - 0109 x 2 X
2.66 GHz Xeon E5640 80W CPU / 12MB cache/DDR3 1066 MHz
I know that 4 VM can be created on this server, UCS.
But UC on the description of the UCS shows differently.
----------------------------------------------------------
CPU1 | CPU2
---------------------------------------------------------
core1, core2 cr3 cr4 | CR1 cr2 cr3 cr4
---------------------------------------------------------
CPU1
--------
Core1: PUB
Core2:TFTP
CORE3:leave for UCcx1
Core4:UCxn1
CPU2
---------
Core1: SUB1
Core2:Cup
CORE3:leave for UCcx2
Core4:UCxn2
Question is: what is the difference between CPU and Core1-4? How many VM servers is supported on 2xCPU C210M2?
Is it limited to 4 VMS per server series C or more?
Waiting for response.
I don't know any design tools, but the bible for design information is here;

Hello
I have a question about the series C UCS. Is it possible that some now to connect to 6120 fabric Manager and manage as the blade series. Or are they only manageable through their port MMIC.
In depth.
The 1.3.x of the code, it is not possible. This feature will be available in 1.4 which is just QA and should be available next month.
Kind regards
Robert
