Unlock the drive

I have a similar problem with an upgrade. Windows will start not until after the upgrade. However, I have the original disc OEM with the key that I bought when I had the computer built in 2005. I bought a new hard drive and I try to install on the new HD, but the installation screen hangs at the license agreement. I guess that's because I activated once already. Is it possible to unlock it so I can install it on the same computer?

Original OEM was related to the original hard drive and cannot be moved to another. And you cannot install an upgrade. You will need a full version of windows.

When I go to the utility of refreshment and follow the prompts that I reach a message that says, 'the drive where windows is installed is locked. Hello Lara.

IF you have updated from 8 to 8.1 and the process was interrupted during installation, this may damage the disc and therefore locked error. "Refreshing" the system would not be the answer that you need to clean install Windows 8 again. 8.1 update can break the bond of the recovery partition, especially if it has become corrupted as indicated.

You must clean up the installation with the recovery discs, you must have created before you updated to 8.1.

In addition, if you do not have the recovery disks, you can buy a set of HP or install a regular copy of Windows 8 and then update the drivers manually. HP has the Windows key now integrated into the bios.

Control bug BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO occurs if the SYSTEM registry hive is damaged. However, this corruption is generally unlikely, because the bootloader, known as NT Loader (NTLDR) in versions of Windows prior to Vista, checks a hive for corruption when loading the hive.

This bug check can also occur if some values and critical registry keys are missing. You keys and values may be absent, if a user manually change the registry.

  • Impossible to update, cannot unlock the drive, may not reach the store, nothing on the start screen

    Symptoms...
    1. After several months of work perfectly, I made a mistake (details below) and attempted to retrieve a previous Restore Point.
    2. the system always starts ok, and some things work.  However...
    3. some applications don't work anymore, for example, Logitech SetPoint.
4 files Explorer remember settings and defaults to each invocation.
    5. various Windows settings have been lost.
    6. the Windows 8 start screen has only 'Start' and my login ID.
    7. I can't update the system or re-install the system.
    8. "change system settings" does absolutely nothing.
    9. I got error messages saying my system disk is locked and I need to unlock it, but I can't do it.  None of my disks is BitLocker on, and I can't find any other meaning of "locked".  The message is "the drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive, and then try again. »
    10. I suspect some programs of Windows 8 system are corrupt or lost, but the OS is clearly still Windows 8 in appearance and behavior.
    What I tried...
1 clean the registry with various cleaners.
    2. checked with Windows Update, the software has been completely updated.
    3. the Windows troubleshooting diagnostic tool has not helped.
    4. the same problems occur in Mode without failure.
    5. always had problems after a clean boot.
6 sfc/scannow (as admin) did not help.
    7. I can't do a simple Refresh or reset because I can't go to the store.
    8. out of desperation, I tried updating to Windows 8.1 Overview, but it doesn't have to say that my system disk is locked.  I couldn't find sort of the 'unlock'  BitLocker is off anyway.
    9. I downloaded the installation of window package 8, created an ISO file and burned a DVD.  Tried to repair and regeneration, but both failed.  Once more, the error message said that my system disk is locked.
    10. I am very reluctant to throw my applications, I have over a hundred installed.  In any case, I'm afraid that if I format the system drive, I won't be able to install Windows 8 in all.
How it all started: I made a mistake...
I installed the Gavotte RamDisk and then tried to delete it, forgetting that I needed to run 'as administrator '.  This does not, without saying why, so I removed with Control Panel etc.  Once I did, things started to go wrong.  Previous restore points did not help, and after floundering about in frustration and growing desperation, I ended up here where I am now.
    The system...
    1 MSI motherboard (Z87 - G43)
    2. 2 x 4 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8)
    3. three SATA drives, each with two partitions
    4 DVD burner
    5 external USB floppy
    6. two analog monitors, one connected via a digital-to-analog converter (powered)
7 keyboard and mouse Logitech wireless
    8. USB printer cable
9 LAN with another PC of Windows 8 that works properly
    10. access to on and old XP laptop
WHAT CAN I DO?  I HIT THE BUFFERS!
    The Solution
    ========
The result was much better than I expected.
If you take the road to Microsoft to fix the system, it offers a 'Refresh' or 'remove all and reinstall '.  These two failed because they require access to Microsoft Store.  However, there is a middle path to fix, as long as you have a product key, which re - install Windows 8 as if it were an 'upgrade '.
The process is described quite well here:
    http://www.TechRepublic.com/blog/Windows-and-Office/quick-tip-download-a-new-copy-of-the-Windows-8-upgrade-ISO/
In summary, download the upgrade of widows 8 components and create a picture ISO of DVD, you must burn it to a DVD.  Then, you use this disk to re - install Windows 8.  The great thing about this is that it offers keep your files and settings.  (However, as it is an 'upgrade' it does not provide the option to install on another partition.)
In my case, it worked much better than I expected.  Most of the Windows settings, I thought were lost forever, have been restored.  It's as if she restored settings that he did not know that there :).  Instead of spending hours putting my system after re-setup, I was able to relax, take an evening away from the PC!
Thanks to the person who responded to my original query.

  • Unlock the BitLocker-protected drive

I get the blue screen of BitLocker. The white area for the opening of the key, I cannot enter anything. All I can do is hit continue.  My hard drive is locked and I turn in circles.  I was able to enter letters/numbers yesterday, but somehow, I also asked MS to change my security information... What should do?  Can I call MS?  Thank you

    Hello Michael,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

Recovery of BitLocker is the process by which you can restore access to a drive protected by BitLocker in case you cannot unlock the drive normally.

You can use BitLocker Drive Encryption to protect your operating system drive (the drive where Windows is installed), a data reader fixed (for example, an internal hard drive) or a removable data drive (such as a USB) .

If you're stuck on your PC, you will need a BitLocker recovery key to sign it.

I suggest to check the following items and check if it helps.

    Hi all!

I really have a problem with my disc drive BitLocker encrypted.

On my PC at the beginning (from 2009), with OS win7, I encrypted my external WD 500 GB MY BOOK hard drive.

Unfortunately, old PC died:(et il y a un problème.)

After that, I try another option.

try my second solution: In Control Panel > system and security > BitLocker Drive Encriptación I chose my encrypted disk and try to decrypt the drive. After maybe 7 hours and 99 percent, I got a pop-up message with the error. I don't remember now exactly how was the message.

Now, when I log on windows, on another device (laptop) when I attach my WD 500 GB MY BOOKoutside, drive in my computer , I have the following status: my external WD MY BOOK 500 GBhard drive is unlocked, visible and recognized as a drive J:\, but I can't access it.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

Try changing the permissions on the drive for access.

    a. go to "Computer".

    b. right-click on drive J and choose Properties.

    c. click the 'Security' tab and see if your current user is displayed in the ' group or user names " list. If not, please click on the Add button, type the name of your current user account in the "enter the names of the objects to select " box, then click 'OK' to add this group.

    d. Select the user from the list, then check the box 'Allow' next of ' Full Control '.

    e. click on the Advanced button, and then click the 'Owner' tab. Then, press the button "Edit" .

    f. Select current user in the list and check the box "replace the owner of subcontainers and objects".

    g. click 'OK' to save the changes and wait for Windows to transfer ownership of all objects on the partition.

    h. click OK to save the changes and exit the Properties window.

Check if you are able to access the drive.

  • Corrupted hard drive, I tried to delete everything on the drive using unlocker instead of setting shape and it corrupted the drive

Corrupted hard disk I tried to remove the disk, use unlocker to see how long it would take to remove a complete 500 GB instead of formatting. He paused to remove all and windows is now on a different drive, but it always detects the other as active, I get constant popups saying some files are missing, and it is possible that the disc is damaged or a netwoprk cable has been disconnected, but it's because I deleted the files say are missing. I can not format because I have errors during the attempt, may not make a disk check but in disk manager it says the drive is healthy. I tried to install windows on t6he disk, but the format gets 99% and stops. I know that the drive is not broken, because it worked fine until I did! • unlocked graphic driver

35 update has screwed up my computer! running XP Pro with and old graphics (UPDATES the DRIVER No. AVAIL) reinstalled OS last year with a lot of difficulty but eventually got it running without problem, but this last update has blocked my graphics driver from NVIDIA and now by clicking web pic not elaborate!, tested on IE and it works so it is certainly a problem of Firefox and it started yesterday after I downloaded the last updated 35 everything seems to be working so far? It is a problem of messy page shooting had no other solution that to update driverI cannot upgrade the driver as a solution! I am not techie enough to understand other suggestions and will mess with what I do not understand. Why Mozilla install, update without any option knowing there are still users running older software without uninstal fix, or the ability to disable the blocking.
    Help please!

    Hi SueNYC,
I understand that its a problem with a blocked Nvidia card driver graph and what it will not update.

Can you please provide the graphics driver that is listed on the subject: support page and we can deepen if its blocked correctly. It is possible to unlock, but it would change the experience.

    Current blocked: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting/Blocked_Graphics_Drivers#NVIDIA_card...

Also, if there is no driver update and it is not possible to enlarge the images, what are the steps that you take to enlarge the photo.

Have you tried the Firefox zoom feature? This initiative will increase the size of the web pages.

    • To make things bigger, press Ctrl and + at the same time.
    • To make things smaller, press Ctrl and - at the same time.
    • Pour reinitialiser to reset the size of return to normal, press Ctrl and 0 at the same time.

You can also use the NoSquint. Add on to change the zoom level by default for all websites at the same time. After setting your overall zoom level, you can still adjust the zoom on different sites.

    With the help of NoSquint:

    1. After installation of NoSquint, make sure you have the add-on bar displayed:

      • Click the new tab button ("+") or a box empty bar tab to the right of the item and choose the module bar on the shortcut menu.
    2. Click on the % in the bar of the add-on call site preferences, then click the global settings button, then the zoom tab.
      • You can experiment with sizes greater than 125%, but it is not recommended that you will more than 150%, unless you have a large screen high resolution.

If there are sites that are still a concern, feel free to post their URLs.

Please let us know if this helped you!

    Thank you.
