Unregistered homegroup settings

When I have set up a homegroup, and then select the check boxes to share pictures, videos, etc., then select save changes, the settings to be saved.  If I return to this dialog box, all of the checkboxes are disabled (nothing is shared).  I looked online but have not seen similar problems.  Help, please.

Hi RABoudra,

1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

Method 1

This would happen if the security software installed on the computer is in conflict with the homegroup settings.

I suggest you temporary disable the security software on the computer and check if it works.

Disable the anti-virus software

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Method 2

If the previous step fails, then run the troubleshooter in homegroup available in the link below and the driver that solves the problem.

Open the homegroup troubleshooting utility

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-HomeGroup-Troubleshooter

I hope this helps!

Original title : what is worng with my home group

    greetings to all.

I use Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit os. I am trying to create a homegroup, it does not join. I get no error message. I am able to create the home group (HG), but on the other computer which has windows 7 ultimate 32-bit, it cannot accept the password, tried to change the password and also tried without success. Network troubleshooting I tried and convenience store HG on both computers. deleted the HG and created on another computer but the problem is the same in the 1st computer it won't take password it just hangs...

    checked with different router

disabled password and sharing in other ways as well

    network discovery is on

    Update windows\

Please let me know if you need info...

I'm willing to give more info, but please help it is a request...

    Hello

Disable the password of sharing on both computers to see if that helps.

Start - type in the search box - homegroup - find top and Double click in - change
avancΘs sharing - sharing protected by password - tick Turn off password protected
    share - SAVE the changes.

I guess that one of the computers running something or it has been implemented to
prevent the homegroup to work. Homegroup settings is actually fairly simple, unless
It happened. What it is may be hard to find.

  • Cannot join or leave the homegroup

I tried to create a homegroup, so that I can use my laptop in another room via an ethernet cable. I wrote the first password, but when I went to 'continue', he said that it was false. I could not leave or join the network. Now I can't access my printer from my PC or laptop. I tried several times the system recovery, but that did not work. I got a new password of grouphome, but it does not, either. Each time I try to leave the grouphome, he says I have to join first, but does not accept the new password, so that I can't reach. If I am not a member, I can't leave. I can't remove the grouphome, either.

How can I access my printer again? BTW, I use a mouse, not some

  • Homegroup icon randomly on my desk - virus?

I connected to my laptop not so long ago and noticed that there was an icon named "Homegroup" sitting on my office unannounced. I also noticed that it took more time than usual for all the icons on my desktop to appear. I have not downloaded anything it either for any icon appears on my desktop. The icon is a green ball surrounded by 3 small blue balls, swirling around him. I cannot move the icon of my office, cannot be deleted and cannot be moved to the trash. When I right click on it, I get a menu which reads:

    Open
    Change homegroup settings
    Find the homegroup password
Start solving the problems of the homegroup
    Share with devices
    Create a shortcut
No option to remove or whatever it is. I never seen before icon so curious to know how it appeared, and it is potentially dangerous.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

OK, thanks for your response. Strangely, I restarted earlier of Windows and the icon disappeared as if by magic. As I mentioned previously, I couldn't remove it so don't know how it is removed from my office.

I created a homegroup on Win7 Home premium computer and I try to join a basic family Win7 network.  Both computers have different names, both have access all files and printers, sharing, etc, insofar as I have implemented and uses a password.  Network Diagnostics cannot find something wrong, BUT I must be missing something.  Can anyone offer any help?

  • homegroup is not ready yet message

I can not for the live of get me this to work. Residential group a ot be the worst idea of MS forever.

Running Windows 7 64 bit and I tried to install the media center extender, when I find that it does not connect
I then look at the network and see a homegroup is not ready yet the message. I ran every convenience store and tried everything you can think of Google, but nothing allows me to give homegroup on or disseminate anything for Xbox.
I am running a download of 30 day of Win 7 64 before you buy it and if it's something an assumption of question that I will go back to XP on a whole new generation of computer which is a shame.
Is there any command to reverse all homegroup settings and start over again. Convenience stores didn't make.
If the residential group doesn't work, is there another way to connect xbox to windows 7. Why can't I share with other Windows 7 computers at home.

    Hello

Have you accidentally installed SP1 on your computer. I did some research and it seems that many people have the same exact problem, or very similar problem after installation of SP1 on their machine. As the yet I am not able to find a solution or workaround, but will post here as soon as I do.

  • Homegroup does not, please help.

Hello. I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium on all my computers. The problem is, I chose the third option for this part of the installation and now I can't start my homegroup correctly. The error displayed "Windows cannot configure home group on this computer.

I followed the steps of these sites and started tweaking the Services.msc
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/827328 http://www.SevenForums.com/Network-Sharing/17839-HomeGroup-functionality-Broken.html http://www.SevenForums.com/Network-Sharing/271796-changes-Advanced-Sharing-Settings-not-Saving.html after some progress, I was finally able to connect to the homegroup, but when I go in the homegroup settings, all the stuff that I would like to share my homegroup is not checked. I try to check everything up, but when I return to the same settings, everything is not checked again. I tried to go to the settings for sharing advanced and checked everything. Checked to see if he was saved and he did, but when I again homegroup settings, it simply refuses to save.

Is it possible to fix this? More, is there any other easier and faster way to do this? I have 20 in the whole of the PC (cybercafé) and configuring each one with these complex and tiring steps will take a long time. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    > Moreover, HomeGroup Troubleshooter did not help at all.

You probably don't want use the homegroup in an internet café, because then all computers will see files from other computers.  When people go to an Internet café, they expect that their session is private and no one else can see.  Then, when they log off, they expect that you have the options set to clear their cache temp too.

    ---

However, if you want to use the homegroup in a setting like this, you will probably need to open some ports in the firewall and make sure that IPv6 is enabled on your network.  See here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10561

  • Unsharable redirected homegroup libraries

    Hello

I am an administrator for a long time.  I have my libraries standard user on my drive D rather than C.  I used the built in the redirection feature in the tab "location" of each item of library (e.g. My Documents) to move the folders on my second drive.  Here's the problem:

Since redirect my libraries, I can't share on my home group.  When I go into the homegroup settings and check the Documents (for example), then select OK, when I return home group settings, Documents is not verified.  (NOTE: I went to another computer that does not have library files redirected and performed the same operation successfully, it is not a question of education.)  I was able to share the folder my documents D:\users\me\my manually to the homegroup, but I lose the discovery feature on other devices, such as my new wonderful Microsoft Surface Pro 128, when I use this method.  Does anyone know a solution to this bug?

Please no cookie cutter response after reading this post.

    Thank you

  • Can not get to work in Win7 homegroup sharing

I had a residential group set up between 2 Win7 (profesional) PC

For "unknown reasons" it suddenly stopped working.

So I created a new group of House

BUT now... It does not work in one direction

PC - A user can not access files shared on PC - B

User on PC - B can access shared files on PC - A

The residential group defined parameters are the two same PC... checked and double-checked.

The only difference I can find is in sharing:

on PC - B IE. on the PC that cannot be accessed

only the advanced sharing is available

-While on PC - A, the [part...] button, which here is grayed out, is available and the network sharing of files and folders can be set up.

HOW can I make the button [part...] available?

(NB: this is the same for all the folders I want to share - not only the following)

ALSO is this the cause of the problem - or just another problem?

  • Can not do a homegroup between PC w / Win 7 and laptop w / Win 8

I have a router with wireless capabilities and my PC is connected to it and my laptop is wireless and internet connections are large.  I had a successful homegroup before but I had to unplug my PC to clean/redesign for the new office.  Now, I can 'create' a homegroup with computer but neither one can "find" the other homegroup, and I can't print from my wireless on my printer connected to my PC more.

I get a 'sign' in box for my PC which request you a user name and password of my network "Home 7" but I can't remember or find that information anywhere. "."  My wireless router is "(name)" and network cards on my Wired PC PC lounge via the router to the internet and my laptop is 'discovered' but not 'connected '.  The two computers 'see' each other, but won't the other homegroup.  I don't me the button "join the homegroup" on computers.

How can I reset the 'wired network' for my PC?  I think this repetition which would allow computers to find the other homegroup.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

This issue could be due to some incorrect homegroup settings. I suggest you try these methods and check:

When you are prompted to connect, sign in with your Windows 7 username and password and see if that credentials are accepted.

If the problem persists, I suggest you remove the homegroup and put once more to correct the parameters of sharing as explained in this article:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/HomeGroup-help#HomeGroup-start-to-finish=Windows-81&V1H=win81tab1&V2H=win7tab1

If the problem persists, refer to this article for troubleshooting:

  • RESOLVED - unable to enable IPv6 in Windows 7, so unable to connect to the homegroup - ZoneAlarm was the problem

My problem is that I can't turn on IPv6 in Windows 7.

My goal was to set up a homegroup three computers so that I can share a printer that is connected to one of them. They are all running different versions of Windows 7.  A desktop computer has created a homegroup, and a second desktop computer connected successfully to the homegroup and can print using the first computer printer.

The third computer is a portable computer. When you go to the homegroup settings page, it says that the homegroup is available. But this computer is unable to join when you click on the "join" button. The convenience store said IPv6 must be enabled.

Option is checked in the IPv6 network card settings. (The install button is also active and uninstall is dimmed. I don't understand why this should be as I have read that you cannot uninstall IPv6, if it makes sense for the uninstallation to be grey, why install would be an option? Confusion between.)

Here is what seems to be the root of the problem. In the registry settings, in the section IPv6 DisabledComponents is set to 255 (disabled). I change it to 0 (all features enabled), but I can't always connect to the homegroup. I restart the computer and the value 0 is changed back to 255.

I can't activate IPv6, it isn't surprising that the computer cannot join the homegroup as I read that this function requires IPv6.

Can any expert from Microsoft give me some advice on how to operate the homegroup?

    Thank you very much.

I have now found the answer to my problem. This is a setting in the free ZoneAlarm firewall. I will describe the solution in the case of meeting other people that.

I have the default setting of the version of ZoneAlarm is that it disables IPv6 when it starts. (I don't know if it's the same for all versions).

Although I tried disabling ZoneAlarm (and my separate anti-virus) so he was trying to set up group residential, just turn it off has no impact on registry settings - DisabledComponents is always set at 255 until you change to 0 and, critically, restart the machine. Then, the parameter 0 (enabled) will come into force. Or so it seems to me as a layman.

But if you did not disable the automatic startup of ZoneAlarm (like me) then as soon as you restart the computer, ZoneAlarm starts too and resets the 255, new registry entry to disable IPv6. If you can't join a homegroup.

The solution is to open ZoneAlarm and choose firewall, hand and advanced. Then you will see the option to activate IPv6 networks. When I didn't do the notebook had no problem joined the homegroup.

I don't know why I have the same problem on the second desktop computer. Maybe it's runnning a later version of ZoneAlarm to allow IPv6 - I haven't checked.

In any case, I spent hours looking for this solution, so I hope that the description above helps someone else that has a parameter of the problem until a homegroup because of what seems ZoneAlarm made IPv6 settings in the registry.

  • Windows 7 Homegroup impression - do not print until reboot

Before enter in my question, I would like to note that I am an experienced user and have tried ALL of the fixes recommended by Microsoft in this forum, including reinstalling the drivers, reset the print spools, check the firewall settings and reset homegroup settings sharing etc.

I have three computers that are running Windows 7, two laptops and one desktop, all are connected to the same homegroup in Win7, run all the Windows Firewall.  The office is connected to a USB - a HP color Laserjet 2600n printer.  Wireless, laptops are connected to the network via a router, 802.11 g, Netgear.  File homegroup, sharing between these machines works very well (that is to say all the docs, music, etc. can be shared) and the LATEST multimedia of hp printer driver is installed on all computers in three.  I can print fine from my office, but cannot print from a laptop, despite the HP printer is visible in the control panel of these machines as the default printer.

Firewall settings are OK for print sharing (I checked), the print on all machines spooler service is OK.  Files for printing show like "impression" (on the hand-held transmitter and the desktop), but do not print unless the computers on the network are restarted.  Homegroup print files cannot be deleted, but will ALWAYS display (despite the deletion attempt) when restarting.

Can you please recognize whether it is a bug and if so when will be released the patch to fix.

    Thank you

I also had the same problem with my printer when I tried to print to it from my laptop using the homegroup sharing printers. I had the same symptoms: I could send the document to the printer, but it wouldn't print until I rebooted the computer on which the printer is physically connected to. The only way I could solve the problem was to disable bidirectional Support. Once I disabled that, I was able to print from my laptop to my printer which is connected to my office.

How to disable bidirectional Support is to right-click on your printer icon in the control panel and select printer properties, select the Ports tab and remove the check mark next to enable bidirectional Support.

This isn't the perfect solution, because I will not get notifications from my printer when the printer is in paper, or when a particular toner cartridge is low, etc.. But at least I can share the printer with my laptop without having to unconnect physically on the office printer and then connect it to my laptop whenever I want to print from my laptop.
