V4.3 BEFSR41 router

Hello, for the past few weeks I have been having some very slow performance with this router, web pages load and play games online... I decided to update to firmware: FW_BEFSR41v4.3_2.00.4.5_20080603_code

The firmware has been upgraded, the router appear to be sentenced to a fine, but now I can't connect to internet or router (when I access its IP address)... anyword on this? back in every possible way I can back this firmware? I already did a reset master back to the factory setting and turn off the power on the router and not luck...

You should try to reset the router by default.

To reset your router by default, follow these steps:

(1) turn off all computers, the router and the modem and disconnect from the wall.
(2) disconnect all the wires of the router.
(3) turn on the router and let it start up completely (1-2 minutes).
(4) press in and hold the reset for 30 seconds button, then release it, then let the router reset and restart (2-3 minutes).
(5) turn the router.
(6) connect a computer cable to port 1 of the router (NOT to the internet port).
(7) turn on the router and let it start up completely (1-2 minutes).
(8) the power of the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it's off).
(9) try ping on the router. To do this, click the 'Start' button > all programs > Accessories > command prompt. A black DOS window will appear. Enter the following text: "ping 192.168.1.1" (without the quotes) and press the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that begin with ' response to... ". "or"Request timed out". If you see "reply from...". ", your computer has found your router.
(10) open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to the login page of your router. Leave the user name blank and in the password field, enter "admin" (without the quotes). This will take you to your router configuration page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually found near upper right corner of the screen). Exit your browser.

If you get this day without problem, try the Setup disk (or configure the router manually, if you prefer) and see if you can get your work and router configuration.

If you can not ' response to... ". "in step 9 above, your router is probably dead. A report with this problem

If you get a response in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, is that your router is dead or the firmware is damaged. Related to this issue.

If you need additional assistance, please indicate your ISP, the brand and model of your modem and the results of steps 9 and 10. In addition, if you receive error messages, copy them exactly, and report.

Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Need help installing BEFSR41 router

    Hello

I need some help configure a router BEFSR41, that I bought recently.  A year ago, I got a WRT54GS router and was able to set it up to my Siemens modem DSL 4100 b without any problem.  (Maybe I was just lucky before when I set up the wireless router)  Now I have misery BEFSR41 to work.  I tried to replace my BEFSR41 in the same position as my WRT54GS by using the same configuration.  I'm reproducing the setting on my WRT54GS BEFSR41 router to the wired connection. I took the "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" on my WRT54GS, so on the BEFSR41, I choose "obtain an IP address automatically".  I also activate local DHCP server from 192.168.1.100.  This should configure the BEFSR41 as WRT54GS, right?  But I couldn't get on the internet using BEFSR41 with this configuration.

I checked the routing table for the two router see if it makes a difference and noticed that the only thing different is that the routing table for BEFSR41, the fields of the gateway is 0.0.0.0, but they have correct values on my WRT54GS.

Another difference between the two routers is that on the screen of my WRT54GS State, he showed entry 192.168.0.1 DNS1 and DNS2 and DNS3 entries are empty.  On the State of BEFSR41 screen, it showed DNS1 as 192.168.0.1, then he repeats DNS1 as 192.168.0.1, and finally another DNS1 entry is empty.  How important is it that on the status of the BEFSR41 display, is to show field DNS1 3 times? (instead of DNS3 DNS1, DNS2)

Thanks in advance for any help.

I suspect that the reason the 4100 and the BEFSR41 do not play well together is that both of them use the proxy DNS servers.  DNS proxy on the BEFSR41 servers run 192.168.1.1 and the DNS proxy on the 4100 servers run 192.168.0.1.   My bet is that "double proxy servers" are simply not passing addresses correctly.

As to why the 4100 b works with your old router, but not with your most recent router, I'm not sure.  Is your 4100 several years old?  Often old modems work with older routers, but not with the newer routers.

I think that it is best to place your 4100 b in Bridge mode.  It would like to convert it to a real modem.  It therefore would not have an IP address, or make your PPPoE connection.  This would be "Not used PPPoE" (on the modem).

Your BEFSR41 would have to be configured to your PPPoE connection.

  • Network Magic cannot discover a "BEFSR41" router behind a "WET610N" wireless bridge

Just upgraded to a WRT610N 2 version in my office.  He pulls an IP address from my cable router and distributes IP addresses (this is setup for DHCP) without problem.  I need to extend the home network to another part of the House so I took 2 x WET610N wireless bridges.  Since many devices will have to use the bridge I'll recycle my BEFSR41 as a switch.  I have the router configuration and bridge; the bridge connects to the port "uplink" on the router, and the DHCP has been disabled on the router.  But when I run Network Magic BEFSR41 router cannot find the other side of the bridge.  Any ideas?

You need this post in the section Network Magic from this forum.  If the router acts as a switch, it will be transparent and not e seen.

  • Has lost all contact with BEFSR41 router via network

    Hello

    in this thread: -.

    http://homecommunity.Cisco.com/T5/wired-routers/BEFSR41-v3-activating-UPnP/m-p/101243/highlight/true...

posters describe the problem that the original password is damaged if UPnP is enabled.  A poster gives the password which is replaced in an arbitrary manner, but when I tried (after having the same problem), I couldn't make it work and he had to restore factory settings and repeat the configuration from scratch.

Now, for some reason, I can't do it yet!  "admin/admin" is no longer accepted, and if instead, I try to open the configuration using the Wizard installation CD I get an error message saying "unable to connect...". "and tells me to press the"reset"button (which of course I did, nothing helped).  However, ping the router produces an immediate response with success and my internet access is as before.

Please, what can I do to get out of this endless loop?  There are some configuration changes, I need to do and I can't!

If your router works fine then you don't need a re-flashing the firmware on your router.

As far as disable UPnP is concerned, maybe it's a bug in the firmware.

  • How to connect the worm 4.3 BEFSR41 router to a modem that is always on

Hi I have a westell modem ATT DSL, it is a new modem, I had one that force me to use PPPoe on my BEFSR41 ver 4.3 router Linksys, I wonder how I have now reconfigure the. He didn't need me use PPPoe because she is always on when it is connected directly to my PC I have 4 video game systems that use static IP that are transmitted through my router and 3 PC windows port & printer using other my network products are by linksys NAS200, BEFSR41, WAP54G and 2 group network 5 & 8-port switches , I lost my CD of AP wireless how do I do that I reconfigure without the CD. Please answer as soon as possible

That you no longer use the PPPoE settings on the router... On the Configuration tab, select "Obtain an IP automatically" under Internet Connection Type and click on save settings... Now, click the status tab and check the IP address. If the IP 192.168.1.x is then, click the Configuration tab and change address router ip 192.168.2.1 and click on save settings. Now, power cycle the entire network and check your internet connection to computers connected to the router.

Now for the other devices like WAP54G or computers (for which you have opened the ports on the router), you must assign the static IP address in the range of IP (i.e. 192.168.2.x) of the router.

  • Strict NAT with a BEFSR41 router

So I play frequently on my xbox 360 and I like to browse my computer when I'm waiting for a match. With my old router, same brand and model, all I had to do was do port forwarding with the ports recommended on xbox.com and enable upnp and I had no problems to connect to games, joining friend games or assembling them mine.

So when I got my replacement router I have activated the same options as before but kept getting the strict NAT message when I start a game and none of my friends could join my game and I couldn't join them. So I enabled the DMZ and clone the MAC address of xbox 360. He got rid of the NAT strict message but I noticed a significant drop in the speed of the internet, yet none of my friend could join my game and I couldn't reach them.

So I had to unplug the router and connect the xbox directly on the modem I have while waiting for the replacement router and I could do all the things as before. So it leads me to believe that there is a problem with the router. I have a linksys BEFSR41 v. 4.3 router and modem motorola with a DSL connection.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you are right that if the modem acts as a router, it should be filled if you want to connect to another router... If your modem is full you will not get the internet light on your modem (it will remain off)...

Once you configure the modem in Bridge mode full you must configure the type of internet connection of your router in PPPoE and enter the correct user name and password provided by your Internet Service Providor (ISP)... Once done, click on save settings...

Click the status tab and search for an IP address, if you get 0.0.0.0 for the IP address click on the Connect button and weait... Power Cycle your modem and your roputer for a minute and see if you can go online... Once you are online, you can make the settings as shown in the previous post for your X - Box and it should connect...

  • static IP address assignment to TiVo on BEFSR41 router

    Hello

I'm trying to put in place a couple of TiVo cable already on my home network so I can 'see' on my Mac using the TiVo Express of Toast Titanium function and copy the TiVo on my Mac programs.   TiVo technical support suggested that the problem is that my Mac IP address is 198.162.1.100 (assigned automatically) and for some reason some of my TiVo is on 198.162.0.2 et.0.3.  They suggested that I have manually assign a static IP address for the for put them in 'sync' with my Mac address - that is to say, something in the range 198.152.1.xxx of TiVo.

I was able to assign a static IP address of 198.162.1.109 to the head of the TiVo (and my Mac is still not see it), but I received an error message when I tried to assign 198.162.1.110 to the other TiVo.   Technical support suggested I check with you on assignment of the IP address via the router.  Can you tell me if this is possible and if so, how?

    Thank you!

If the TiVo is Gets an IP 192.168.0.2 or similar when using dynamic/DHCP/Auto IP addresses means the TiVo is connected to a different router or get an IP address from another DHCP server.

    1. Please check your wiring. Your modem should connect to the internet, the port of the BEF everything is connected to the BEF. If the modem has additional LAN ports, a modem/router combo device. Do not use additional ports on the modem/router combo.

    2. If wiring is OK, as previously indicated another reason for a 192.168.0.2 automatic address IP sharing a computer inside your network that has been configured for an internet connection. With internet connection sharing you can share an internet connection through this computer. To do this, the computer will assign 192.168.0. * IP addresses on its side LAN. Please check your computers if there is one that has internet connection sharing enabled.

  • BEFSR41 router problem

Hi, recently I had problems with my router, it does just what it's supposed to.  I am sure that is not a mechanical problem, see how it lights up the same that always, all bulbs are working on the screen and it recognizes that it has an internet connection.

When I plug it into my computer, the network will find and say that I am connected to the internet.  When I try to do something that requires the interent on the computer or the Xbox, it still fails.  No web pages only, no games, nothing. I checked my network connections in Control Panel and it says I'm connected, data are sent, but none is received.

I checked all my ethernet cables, made sure there is no damage to one of them, so I can't be them.  I tried to unplug the modem and router for a bit, then plug them back in and then tried to hit the reset button on the back of the router.  I think that could of causing the problem, but I can't say with certainty.

    Someone knows what to do?

Reset the router properly and then re - configure...

Press and hold the button of reset for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

  • Linksys BEFSR41 connection with modem router getting not real internet ip

Hello, can someone help with this problem. I connected to a modem router linksys BEFSR41 router. But when I watched the status in linksys BEFSR41 router, it gives only an IP from the modem router and no real internet ip address.

can someone give me an answer.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't string two routers. Fill the modem/router or don't use the BEF as a router, but only as a simple switch (or replace it with a standard ethernet switch).

  • New router BEFSR41 problems installing...

I just installed a new version of my BEFSR41.  I had a version 2 and now have a version 4.3.  I have Road Runner internet and had no problem, just pick up my old router and hang a new.  A restart of the modem and I was able to connect to internet and my other 2 computers in the House.  However, I can't access the 192.168.1.1 configuration it won't let me past the password screen.  I tried the default "admin" with no luck.  A reset of the modem will fix this problem without screw it my internet connection and network...

Also I had installed LELA and when I installed the new router it showed it as a gateway instead of the BEFSR41 router as he showed before.  I reinstalled but still the same bridge description. I uninstalled the program.

    TIA

Your router must have a username is blank and the password "admin" (without the quotes).

If this does not work, then the most likely cause for your problem is a problem of computer software firewall.  Go into your computer and temporarily disable your software firewall and see if that allows you to connect to your router.  With some computer software firewall, you will need to "trust" your router at 192.168.1.1

If you still have problems, read on:

Here are my tips for to connect you to your router:

You need not be connected to the Internet to view the router's web pages.  These web pages are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is connected to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily disable your firewall software.

If you use Zone Alarm, do a right-click on the ZA icon in the taskbar (bottom right of screen) then click on "Shutdown ZoneAlarm" and see if that solves your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: open the control center ZAISS, go to privacy, then temporarily disable Ad Blocking and Cookie Control and see if it solves your problem.

If you use Noton Internet Security with the add-on Pack, don't forget to disable the blocker and ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall all Norton Add-on Pack.

If you can not get anything to 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not the address of the router. Go to 'Start' > all programs > Accessories > command prompt.
A black DOS window will appear. Type "ipconfig" (with no quotes), and press the Enter key. Look at the "default gateway". It is 192.168.1.1? Point your browser to the 'default gateway', can connect you to your router.

If the above fails, unplug your modem router, then try again. If it solves your problem, then most likely your modem is actually a "modem-router". Check if your "modem" is using the same address as your Linksys router 192.168.1.x space. If this is the case, then the report with this problem and specify also the brand and exact model of your modem number.

If all above fails them, turn off your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait a minute, then lights up, then try again.

If all the above tips fail, then reset the default router: power down the router and unplug all the wires. Wait a minute. Switch on the router, let it fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset for 30 seconds button, then release the button and allow the router to reset and restart (2-3 minutes). Turn off the router. Wait a minute. To connect to a computer, cable, a router's LAN port. Initialize the system. It should work.  Reset the default router will also reset your default Internet connection type.

If the reset does not fix your system, then you must download and install (or reinstall) the latest firmware for your router. After the update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch. If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • BEFSR41 and New Modem/router DSL

Verizon has recently replaced my DSL modem with a new DSL modem/router with a dynamic IP address. Even though I have full internet access with the new modem of the Setup for my Linksys BEFSR41 router disk will not be connected to the internet. What should I do for the new modem so that the Setup disk will see the internet? The DSL modem/router has only one port so I'm not able to have more than one computer/device hooked up at the same time so I still need my router.

Well how about you that :-) It all works now. Thank you guys.

  • Nat router firewall

I have connected a firewall to a linksys BEFSR41 router.

I put the BEF on a separate subnet

Re: static 192.168.1.2 (on the same subnet as firewall)

    Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (firewall inside address)

    DNS: 192.168.1.1

    LAN:

    192.168.2.1

    NAT is enabled.

I have the ethernet cable between the firewall connected to the WAN port on the BEF

It works very well to go through the firewall to the internet (which also has nat;-I'm not sure how it works with the two nats.)  )

Problem: If I disable NAT on the BEF I can't through the internet.

The question: is there a way to configure the BEF with NAT disabled and still get to the internet?

I tried different settings for the WAN on the BEF (in addition to the above) but you have not hit to the right pair.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hugh

If you connect a second external via a router to a different LAN port (main) settings NAT is actually irrelevant. I don't know why talk of various FAQ to disable NAT (router mode switch). It makes not a difference. NAT applies only to packets that passes through the component routing, i.e. travel side LAN to the WAN port or back up. Thus, it is not relevant for a LAN - LAN configuration.

The default setting for a normal router is active NAT because you use IP private addresses inside the local network that must be mapped to the public IP address on the WAN port. That's what NAT. Internally, you have private IP addresses. In the internet, we see only the public IP address.

It is true that with active NAT side LAN is inaccessible from the side WAN (with the exception of redirects to port etc.). Is only a precondition not to do a side fully accessible side LAN WAN turn off NAT. That NAT is now disabled the LAN IP addresses are routed to the side WAN. This means that the side WAN must understand and also forward these IP addresses correctly. In your case, with NAT disabled the computers and router WAN side need to know where to route the packets 192.168.2. *. If you do not set a road for 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0 on the main router all the packages of 192.168.2. * will be sent to the default gateway, which is in the internet where they are quickly eliminated.

To make a computer connected to the accessible BEF from the internet you have to options:

    1. you can expose some ports through port forwarding and NAT enabled on the BEF. You must pass these ports on the firewall and the BEF. The firewall forwards to the WAN IP 192.168.1.2 the BEF. The BEF transmits to the address of the LAN computer, for example 192.168.2.50.

    2. If you want to disable the NAT on the BEF, you must configure a static route on the firewall to route 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.2. In addition, you may need to adjust the NAT rules to include 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0 for NAT (NAT rules define which IP addresses are mapped to the public IP address and which not).

If you want the computer to be accessible from the internet, you still have to implement the translation of port on the firewall (the firewall because no NAT and thus makes the side LAN firewall inaccessible from the internet). The firewall is not possible: some barrier-lights/routers allow you to set up port forwarding to arbitrary IP addresses and their own LAN IP subnet, i.e. the firewall might not only to transmit not 192.168.1. * but * 192.168.2.

Perhaps you could explain why you must have some computers on a different subnet.

  • Several router question

I have been using my router 4 ports of WRT546s. The ports are used to hard wire the different parts of my house (House was wired). Everything works fine. I need to have more than one internet access wired into my office. So I tried to plug my 4 port BEFSR41 router. I can't make it work. I know that the wiring is done correctly, I suppose that there are changes in my settings, but don't know where to start. I passed my warranty period on my two routers, I'm free looking for advice before I spend $30 to Linksys hotline.

I use a dynamic IP address automatic and get broadband through Comcast. Thank you.

Instead of using a second router, the best thing to use in this case is a switch, such as the SD205 SD208 or SD216.  The switch requires no configuration.  Simply connect to your router, and it works.

To save money, your BEFSR41 can be converted to a switch.  To do this, follow these steps:

    (1) put your entire network.

    (2) unplug the BEFSR41 everything, except a single computer that is connected to a LAN of the BEFSR41 port.

    (3) turn on the BEFSR41 and the computer.  If the computer has a wireless card, turn off the power.

    (4) connect to the BEFSR41 and change the following default settings:

    (a) change "local IP address" 192.168.1.2 (which implies that your WRT54GS uses 192.168.1.1, and you use not 192.168.1.2 elsewhere in your network.)

    (b) change the 'DHCP server' to 'disabled '.

    (c) click the 'Save Settings' button and then wait for the screen refresh (3 to 60 seconds).  You will be probably disconnected from the BEFSR41.  Don't worry about this.

    (5) power down your network

    (6) wire of any LAN port on the WRT54GS at any port LAN on the BEFSR41.  Do not connect anything to the Internet on the BEFSR41 port.

    (7) all the other wired LAN ports on both routers behave as if they were built in the WRT54G.

  • Router to router

If possible, I would like to connect a Linksys BEFSR41 router to another router Linksys, WRT600N, for further additional wired for computers to join.

My current network has wired and wireless units.  My main router connected to the modem is the WRT600N and all wired connections are used.  The plan is to connect the BEFSR41 the WRT600N to win two additional wired connections and be six feet away from my modem and WRT600N location.

In this case, can I use a connection in the WRT600N and connect a RJ45 standard for the Wan or uplink on the BEFSR41 port?

In the questions on this Forum, it indicates that in the configuration of the address IP should be changed from the 192.198.1.1 to 192.168.1.254.  The WRT600N is currently at 192.168.1.1 DHCP server is marked Disable  Would that be correct?

Is there something I should know about and change?

The ideal solution for your problem is to add a switch for your WRT600N, not a second router.   A switch has no parameter and no firmware to upgrade.  You he wire just to your WRT600N, and ports of the switch identical to those built in the WRT600N would be.   You can use a gigabit as the SD2008 switch, or if you only need 100 Mbps service, you can use a switch SD208.

It is possible to convert your BEFSR41 to a 100 Mbps switch.  (Note: this will only add a net of two additional ports to your network)  To do this, turn off your entire network.  Unplug the BEFSR41 of other devices.  Connect a computer to a LAN on the BEFSR41 port.  Turn on the BEFSR41 and your computer.  Connect to the BEFSR41 and assign the BEFSR41 as follows:

    (1) (together "local IP address" 192.168.1.2 (I assume that you do not use this address elsewhere in your network).)  You can actually use any address that is outside the range of the DHCP servers, but it cannot end with 0, 1 and 255, and you can't use an address that is used elsewhere in your network.

    (2) set the DHCP server to 'disabled '.

    3) click on the 'save settings' button and then wait for screen refresh (3-60 seconds).  You will be probably disconnected from the BEFSR41.  Don't worry about this.

    (4) put your entire network.

    (5) wire then any port LAN on the WRT600N to any port LAN on the BEFSR41.  Do not connect anything to the port Internet (WAN) on the BEFSR41.

    (6) power of your network.  It should work.

In addition, why the DHCP server stops in your WRT600N?  Normally, you should leave the DHCP server is activated in your main router (WRT600N), even if all the devices on your network use fixed (static) IP LAN addresses.

  • Two routers connected, but no Internet on the router downstream

Hi, I followed the instructions in the FAQ for routers chaining daisy with only partial success.  I have a WRT54GS V6 router configured as my gateway.  The downstream router is a BEFSR41 v4.  Both have the latest firmware.

I have visibility on the full network of machines, but the PC connected to the router downstream has no access to the internet.  PC connected to the router upstream did.

I tried to exchange the two routers and reconfiguration, but only once the PC connected to the router upstream has access to the internet.

    Current configuration:

    Gateway - router WRT54GS

    Router IP: 192.168.1.1

    From IP ADDR: 192.168.1.100

    DHCP server: enabled

    Downstream BEFSR41 router.

    Router IP: 192.168.1.2

    DHCP server: disabled

    Any help is appreciate

    Thank you

On a computer that has no internet open a command prompt window and type "ipconfig/all". After the output full in your next post.
