Win XP Pro will download updates but install fails

I have a problem with win xp pro. When I download updates they will download but the installation fails. At the same time when I would shut down the computer, it would be the installation of the updates. Now she even won't do it. Is the a link to the updates, where I can download updates and install them manually? I think I did it once but I forgot to bookmark the link. Now all I get is there is no update available.  I have the auto download and install settings, so I don't know if I'll keep updating the value. Is there a way to check my updates are up-to-date. Also, I ran fixit and he could not solve the problem. Thanks in advance

Hello

The following article applies also to Win XP. You can go ahead and run. See the article.

You tried to run the clean boot mentioned in my previous post. If so, then back with the results.

Since you posted your product key on a public web site, it has now
almost certainly already been copied and used by hackers all over the
world. This means that Microsoft disables this button so it can't be
    more used.

Please, in the future, never publish your key like this.

But leaving that aside for the moment, to answer your question, if
It is a key to the retail sale, Yes, you can use it on another computer. If it's a
    OEM key, no you can't.

  • Can I stop a downloaded update to install when I shut down my computer?

My setting of update "Download updates but let me choose whether to install" I want to keep it this way. Lately, I noticed that when I click Start, stop, there is a small yellow exclamation point or shield on the close button and when you hoover over closed, he says that Windows will install the updates and then stop. It doesn't give you a choice.
Is it possible to stop without having to install the update until you know what the update is all about, that might not be immediately. Can go you to Windows Update and hide the update, that would be a pain in the neck, if there is more than one?
Or is it somehow a way to get rid of this or these until you are able to check and see what the update or updates are on?

    Thank you

    Hi BobM202,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. you receive an error message?

    3. do you have security software installed on the computer?

    4. are you referring to freezing except office mouse movement?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Downloaded update, but refuses to install

A few days ago a window pops up saying that IE 8 was available, I went to the Download Center and downloaded. Then, he says that he has been downloaded and installed without the latest updates. I went to the center of Microsoft Download and downloaded the latest updates. Downloaded and installed an update, but it cannot or will not install the "day of security for the Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 1.0 Service Pack 3 (KB928367). I get the little yellow shield icon, saying: he has a ready to install update and I still click on it and he keeps trying to install the security update and it keeps failing. I get very frustrated, and I want to get this installed security update. What should I do? I am running Windows XP, not Vista, but down below this box it says select a forum category, and the only category it is "Windows Vista".
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi BerniePederson,

I was doing research and someone else posted a possible solution to your problem.
Please see Sohail Patel suggestions below:

To successfully install the update, uninstall all versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer. You may need to work through more than one of the following methods.
Method 1: Manually remove and reinstall .NET Framework

To remove and reinstall .NET Framework manually, follow these steps:

    1. remove the .NET Framework.

    a. Click Start and then click Control Panel.

    b. double-click Add or remove programs.

    c. Note each version of the .NET Framework is already installed on the computer. Then, uninstall all versions of the .NET Framework.

    d. When you are prompted, restart the computer.

    2. use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to clean up the State of MSI database for all versions of the .NET Framework.

.      Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

    a. install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility as an administrator or a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.

    b. Click Start, point to all programs and then click Windows Installer Cleanup.

    (c) in the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, remove all Windows Installer for the .NET Framework applications.

    3. restart the computer.

    4. download and reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework that were previously installed on the computer.
To download .NET Framework 3.5, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4e35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en (5. When you are prompted, restart the computer.

Note When you have reinstalled all the versions of the .NET Framework, you can use Windows Update to check for the updates of the .NET Framework.

Method 2: Use the .NET Framework automatic cleanup tool

This tool is not designed as a substitute for the standard uninstall procedure. You should try to perform an uninstall by following the steps in method 1, earlier in this article, before using this cleanup tool.

The .NET Framework cleanup tool removes the .NET Framework for you. For more information about how to obtain and use this tool, visit the following MSDN Web site:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx

Note that this cleanup tool deletes shared files and the registry keys that are used by several versions of the .NET Framework. To ensure that all versions of the .NET Framework work correctly, if you run the cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework, you must first remove all installed versions of the .NET Framework using this cleanup tool. Then, you must reinstall all previously installed versions, starting with the version number the lowest.

Suppose you have the .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your computer, and you plan to use this cleanup tool. In this scenario, you use the cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 1.1 first and then use the cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 2.0. After you remove the two versions, you reinstall .NET Framework 1.1 and then install the .NET Framework 2.0, in that order.

Tried to install the following updates several times without success.

Update of security for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB2597086)

Update for the filter of junk e-mail in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB2598343)

Update of security for Microsoft Office Word 2003 (KB2598332)

Update of security for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB2598253)

They download OK but do not settle.

    All other updates work.

    Thank you.

Are you experiencing the problem only with the Office updates or Windows Update as well?

Updates do not settle due to several reasons, we can try to interfere or if the download is incomplete, damaged installing Office security software etc.

    Method 1:
Try to install the updates one at a time and check the result.
If it fails, perform a repair of Microsoft Office 2003, and then try to install.

    Method 2:
If the repair fails, try restarting your computer in a clean boot, and then try to install the updates one:
See the link on how to restart the computer in clean boot mode:
Note: Check that you restart the computer in normal mode when finished troubleshooting

Clean boot is made to disable all programs start and 3 services of third parties on the machine and check if they are in conflict with the Office program.
If so, you can disable unwanted software, who come into conflict with the suite or get updates

    Method 3:
If it still does not work, use the Microsoft Fixit to remove Office 2003. Once removed, restart the computer, and then reinstall the suite Office 2003. Now try to install the updates and check the result.
Note: Make sure you have the installation media and product key for the suite Office before uninstalling.
