  Have not used my laptop for the last 45 days and have not installed anything new. W7, 64-bit running. Just used on these days and it will not be closed.   I downloaded ccleaner pro (first edition) and scanned the hard drive. I checked 'fix all issues' and it worked! Whatever files or conflicts on the register or wherever was causing the 'hang up' were eliminated obviously that my laptop was able to stop. :-)

  Shutdown problems are usually caused by a program or process that won't come out gracefully. The program or process may be against malware, or may be legitimate (for example a pervasive like Norton or McAfee antivirus). If you use Norton or McAfee product, uninstall it and replace it with a better program like NOD32, Kasperksy or Avast (free). The Windows Firewall is enough for most people. Shutdown problems can also be caused by old/badly written drivers so make sure that all drivers are updated, especially on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

  I have Version 2.0.4 (159196) merger and normally I have no problems.  First of this program installed on my Macbook Pro and the other day I opened the merger/windowsxp and some other programs, it is on the side of my Mac, when it was time to go to bed I closed the lid on my Mac, and the next morning, I opened the hood, read my mail and did a few other things on the Mac side.  So I opted for the windows form, and it says that Windows has been stop, stop ok I really should not use windows.  Later I went back and he said the same thing, as it froze.  I have quite fusion strength and stop my computer, when I've reworded my mac and went to the merger, he said has been shut down windows.  I can't reach to stop, there is no place where to click to force windows to close and open the merger.  If anyone can help...   As you suggest, it seems that Windows froze. This occurs on physical computers, too, but at least there, you have a power switch.   Either way, you mention that you're under Fusion 2.0.4. I strongly recommend that you update your version, as there have been several bug fixes and performance fixes since then. You can download 2.0.8 Fusion now, for free, here: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=FUS-208&productId=49&rPId=1540. Stop your virtual machine before upgrade you, but the process should be pretty painless.

  You should consider upgrading to the latest version of released Fusion, Fusion 4. It cannot be run on older versions of MacOS Snow Leopard version, but it is much faster than Fusion 2.   I have been using Windows 8 for awhile now. Why can't I shut down my computer? I go into settings, then tap the power and picked off, but nothing happens. Can someone tell me why?

  I have two computers 64-bit of Windows 8 and I got the closed program hangs (and down/restart) on one of them.  Both have AMD and Norton Internet Security chips in 2013, but problems only happened on my old office.

  My short term solution was downgrade to NIS 2012 on the desk and I have not had problems since.  If your configuration is similar, you could try this and see if it helps.

  The problem started when I upgraded my BIOS version A06 to A13 (running A14 now). Now, whenever I turned off my computer, the lights are still up and the fan runs. In order to stop completely, I have to press the "switch" button.

  My warranty expired a year ago.

  Anyone know how to fix this? I suspect there is something wrong with my motherboard, since I can't even get into the BIOS setup when I start my computer.

  Has anyone tried to replace the motherboard? What type of motherboard do need me? Is it possible to buy the "original" Alienware mobo?

  I hope someone is able to help. Comments or suggestions are welcome.

  I've updated the Bios, downloaded new drivers for various devices (including the screen and the dynadock!) and it still don't bloody close (or Hibernate).
