  There is no such thing as a pilot for ODD (optical disc drive). It uses the standard Microsoft driver. Try please remove the disc from the Device Manager, then restart the laptop. After reboot the ODD will be detected and installed it again. Check please if the problem persists.

  If yes I recommend you to install the driver for DVD-RAM (DVDForm Utility). You can find it on the download page of Toshiba. I use the 3.0.9.0a version. and it works perfectly.

  Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
  ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
  contacts data with a pencil eraser.

• Windows updates could not be downloaded or installed

  The last date on which Windows updates have been installed correctly on my PC has been on 12 August.  Since that date something prevents me to install new updates.  Whenever I click on the "Install updates" button on the box "Download and install new updates on my computer" for Windows Update tent to start downloading (the green progress bar appears for a second or two), but then my PC back to the "yellow shield with the message box"download and install the new update on my computer".  At first I thought it was just busy at Microsoft, so I waited until a 'downtime' to try again.  Same no result... no download.  Several updates again 'important' security, but also the other "Recommended" updates are waiting for download and install, but I can't understand how prevents download of launch.  I ran my anti-virus several times more than my 2 x a week all the scan in the hope that there is some sort of bug that prevented my access to Windows Update, but no luck.  I also read a lot of Forums to see if there are other users having this problem of sam and have not seen any other comments.

  There is another bug that I have yet to understand that everything began to happen within the last week and there may be a link between the inside and the problem I am having with Windows Update.  I have a dialog box that is displayed on my screen for less than one second every 10 seconds or more.   I have read this program is located on the area and it's "C:\\Windows\system32\wuauclt\exe", but sometimes, the dialog box that appears is 'C:\\Windows\system32\SndVol\exe' and in the box itself, it says "program too big to fit in memory".

  I have a Dell XPS M1530 and Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 installed.  32-bit Intel Core II Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10 GHz and 4.00 GB RAM

  Try to start your system in safe mode:

  Restart your computer if it is running. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on. Once you see the menu Advanced Boot Options, you can stop tapping. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER. You should see drivers loading, it may take a few moments. You should then be at the Welcome screen. Connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges. Now, you download (free) MalwareBytes from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol install, Update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to ensure that it is indeed clean! Once the scan done remove anything it finds. Simply restart your PC to see if your problem has been resolved!

  To resolve this problem, use the tool (SFC.exe) System File Checker to determine which file is causing the problem, then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
  2. Type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow (Yes there is a space after sfc) the sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

  I bought a new laptop from HP which works under Windows 7 (64-bit). I tried to download the driver for my HP laserjet 1022 printer - the website shows that this printer should work with Windows 7 with the driver available for download from the HP site. When I click to download the driver it starts to download, but then I get the following message "downloading lj1020-HP-pnp-win64 - in .exe was interrupted.   Sarah - I dsl which is at the lower end of DSL speed and I can tell you that I sometimes have problems download from the HP site.  The HP software is quite 'bulky' and/or 'intense' (I have no other way to describe it).  If it gets interrupted it usually leaves.  My guess is that it's your connection mobile broadband is not not a connection permanently at times causing the interruption.  If you have no regular internet type, try to go to a mobile hotspot that is free in a city near you or a store that offers for free (Panera, McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.) and download the file from there.  Make sure your firewall is active and security to prevent unauthorized entry into your computer during download.

  As the disk original CD with my HP1510 printer is not recognized by Windows 8 and IE10 on my new laptop, I downloaded a driver for the series "HP1500" using the USB connection and the installation wizard.

  However, while appearing to install successfully, I found soon it there was not any range of printing options that I used with older versions of Windows.

  A good example is when I try to print the pages of a small program guide for a friend that I promised. Editing several pages on a sheet was so hard, that I actually went on another computer in an Internet café to perform the task using files copied to a memory stick, which I of course had to pay, but at least the work was done.

  An update of Windows has received today has restored the "several pages on a sheet" option, but is still very "primitive" because the more I hope that is 2 small pages at both ends of the sheet, I can't enlarge for clarity or align well together.  That I could only manage another computer, "booklet" mode, which does not exist in my 'new' version of Windows, which should not be the case.  Therefore, looking for advice on how to get the full range of printing features advanced experienced with an earlier version of Windows.

  It is an old printer and before Windows 8 even thought, all features are simply not there. The main goal is just to make the same printer compatible with Windows 8, providing the basic features. The best you can expect is updated later, but there is no guarantee that you will never see these options in Windows 8.

  So, you can use the Installation Wizard of HP printer if your using Windows 7, 8 or 8.1.

  If you have any of the above operating systems, connect the printer to your PC via the USB port or connect it to your network.

  Then run the next tool that will detect your connected printer and download the correct driver for it:

  The driver for Deskjet 970 is a good match for the Photosmart 1115.  You can add this driver or driver Photosmart 7200 via Windows Update as follows: click Start, devices and printers, add a printer to the local path (select LPT1: for now), then, and then click Windows Update in the lower right of the window to add printer.  It will take a few minutes for the Update window, after the Photosmart 7200 series won't be an election under the manufacturer HP (Hewlett-Packard).  Select this option.  Once you have finished the installation then go to change settings on the port, as described in this document.
