XP Device Manager shows me 'PnP BIOS Extension' with a yellow top flag

I tried to load the new software for an HP printer and it would not load correctly. I checked the Device Manager to see if the USB port has an error, but instead I see an icon with a yellow flag on it in "System devices". The name of the icon is 'PnP BIOS Extension'. I just click the mouse over it to see the Properties , and there are three tabs: general, pilot, Details

the device status window general tab has this message: Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).

Driver tab, it says:
Driver provider: unknown
Driver date: not available
Driver version: not available
Digital signer: not digitally signed
On the Details tab, it says: ROOT\SYSTEM\0003
I tried the driver but it failed with the message: the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.

Can someone help me understand how to fix this problem?

Well you can right click on it, select "update driver..." Or, try to update the

Hp BIOS, if its current, you may have a defective battery on board, it would be

give some data, but perhaps not all, anytime, cold weather brings on battery

and the questions of the bulb... Also, try to update the software of the chipset advice, get it from its

MFG (intel, amd, etc.), which gives the ability to run hardware tips xp...

    Just a question;
    You can read and burn CDs?

    Regarding the unknown devices:
    These devices are only compatible Vista and so there is no drivers for the mass storage controller.

  • Device Manager shows two different processors on Satellite P200 - 1 K 9

    Hello
    I just bought P200 - 1 K 9 and spotted (Vista 32-bit) Device Manager shows two different processors under the section of processors:

    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 @ 2.40 GHz CPU

    I expected to see the two excatly the same processors here.

    Vista recognizes in general CPU core 2 duo 2.4 GHz, BIOS too.
    What is on the Device Manager?

    Is there something wrong with the CPU? Should I return it better?
    Would you please check your processor in Device Manager (start-> right click on computer-> select Properties-> Device Manager) and let me know what you have?

    I'll start some live linux CD and check there too.

    Thank you
    Miroslaw

    Hi mate,

    the you´ve got problem is not a problem. It s just a simple bug in the Vista Device Manager and hardware abstraction layer.
    Follow these steps:
    Remove the CPU from the Device Manager (uninstall just like any other device) and then restart windows. The processor will be indicated correctly next time you reboot the system.

  • Device Manager shows no device, is empty

    My 8200 Dell under XP Professional SP3 shows not all devices in Device Manager.  I think that it started very recently when I was installing TM Internet Security after the removal of Norton Anti Virus 2009.  Eventually after using Norton Removal Tool. It doesn't show the devices safe.  Plug and Play is on.  I recently installed an old HP DeskJet 820Cse printer using existing drivers.  I do not think that article 953979 applies since it just (seem), took place but it seems to fit the description.  Any help is appreciated.

    There is a Microsoft 953979 patch that works, but it didn't on mine, I then found this articale and followed the instructions and it worked.

    (1) logged as an administrator;
    (2) Regedit > HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\ENUM.
    (3) right clicked Enum and gives right to the system and administrators full control.
    (4) clicked the button Options at the bottom of the window.
    (5) on the Advanced window checked 'reset permissions on all child objects... ". »
    (6) the deleted Enum key. Error message: error while deleting key. I had to remove this key twice because initially, it appeared the remains of Enum key. After that, the locked ENUM\ROOT\LEGACY_SSDPSRV who already had a lot of weird symbols example $% &' () * +-, etc., now gone. Registry shows an own ENUM\ROOT subkey.
    (7) PC rebooted and back connected to Windows;
    (8) window of the Device Manager showed some yellow exclamation not to mention that some devices not recognized, then refreshed a few times showing successively less then not many of these features.
    (9) PC rebooted again;
    (10) message screen saying according to Windows has finished installing new devices, and the computer must be restarted before the new settings take effect.
    11) Yes to restart the computer

    Now the Device Manager window is full and all devices running again!

    This solution works for my situation. I hope this helps someone.

  • Satellite A100-680: PnP BIOS Extension missing driver

    I searched for about one hour now, other threads from reading and the search manually through the database of the driver, but I can't find any useful information.

    As you can see from the following screenshot...
    [http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/3171/prtscr2.jpg]
    ... I am missing a driver.

    I'm sure that the driver is listed, but it can also be saved under another name. This isn't something I'm infamiliar of searched a lot on other sites (Acer, HP, etc.) for drivers of other computers in my work.

    Anyway.
    The reason why this driver is missing on my * Satellite A100-680 * is that my antivirus detects it as a keylogger. This is not the first time that this happens, and I can easilly restore virus vault if I want to. However, this is something I really wish to do.

    This problem also occurred with some of my audio drivers earlier, as well as the driver associated with TOSHIBA Hotkey functions. (Solved).

    In order to check for me if my antivirus detects a false positive or not, I would like to find the driver and install it.
    If after this my antivirus detects it as a keylogger, it was just all along.
    If it detects it as a keylogger, I treat the result as a false positive and add it to the white list.

    My Toshiba is a Satellite A100-680, running Win XP Home edition.
    The version of the BIOS is "Phoenix Technologies LTD. 1.70, 11.05.2006" (from msinfo) (whether this info is helpful at all is beyond me...)
    SMBIOS version 2.31 (new msinfo.)

    If you need additional information in order to help me, please indicate what information you need.

    Have you tried to remove this device in the Device Manager list and restart the laptop?
    Try this! After restarting again the operating system must search for the driver and must be reinstalled this device automatically.

    By the way: Satellite A100-680 belongs to the PSAA9E series.
    The European driver Toshiba page provides up-to-date BIOS 6, 00 - WIN for this device
    Recommends the installation of the Modules common to XP and BIOS update.
