Boot time has become excessive.

After having some problems with my HP printer and getting nothing more than generic help support HP I tried to uninstall the printer software and install a version update of HP. After several attempts I was finally able to get my printer working again well, it seems that I have still a few old printing software that do not uninstall mixed with the new software. Since this problem started the startup time of the system has changed since about 2 minutes to well over 6 minutes.

I installed BootLog XP and it seems that Microsoft Security Esentials and svchost.exe consume the most time and memory at boot upward. I've deleted and reinstalled Security Essentials without change in start time results. Svchost.exe is a generic process that covers several process. I know there are experts who may be able to point me in the right direction to fix this problem.

Two things really stand out:

1. first of all, you need not Comodo. I used to run it on my old WIndows 98 rig, and I thought it was great. But this is NOT required on a Windows XP PC. Outbound protection is only a placebo; incoming (providing the built-in firewall of Windows XP) is fine. (Outbound protection is a placebo because IF something nasty, it will thwart any program which provides outbound protection).
2. Secondly, the MsMpEng.exe process, I think, is associated with Windows Defender. Is it possible that you did not remove Windows Defender before installing MSE?
There are other processes are running that I wonder if are needed, such as processes associated with Pure Networks and eHome.
Finally, a lot of time on ATI in your illegal product. Every time I have to install the drivers, I ONLY install the drivers. Do you really need the software provided for your graphics card?

Also be aware that in addition to the Startup tab, there is a tab process. You have disabled the processes related to the HP printers, too? (A clean boot should do that, BTW.) It is advisable to check the box "Hide all Microsoft Services". You do not want to disable one of these!
I think your problem is largely (but not completely) centered around your HP printing software since in your original post, you said:

    When you reinstall Firefox it always uses your old profile with all the old things that you had. That said, you're lucky, there is a new feature that lets you "Reset" of Firefox. This will remove some of the pieces that might cause problems while it keeps your bookmarks and other important things safe.

    Can I have more information on your mac? The info above, it looks like you have 4 GB of ram. What is your CP?

    It look like your computer is slow is because 98% of your PC is used for Hearthstone witch led to a driver failure, and your RAM has a lot to deal with. I would recommend strength leave Hearthstone when they surf the web, etc... Hope this helps, good luck to you.

    I use this feature for years and update Firefox/Aurora in the next few days, maybe a week, an update becomes available and everything suddenly ' show my windows and tabs from last time ' has stopped working. I can go to the Tools-Option-general tab and change "at Aurora startup:" to this option, or 'Show my home page (s)' and now the opening in a new tab single even though I have URLs there. This may mean that this bit is not read correctly. I'm not playing: config, but I watch a few spoken options in the Web and everything looked OK.

    I would uninstall and reinstall it if you think it will solve the problem. I updated Aurora again because this problem started and it remains broken. It is a system of XP with SP3

    PS: I have two other windows with a XP and the other Windows 7. When I had the problem on my primary XP System I stopped to make updates to other systems. Today I updated the two other systems with the latest Auora (skip one or two updates) and both work very well.

    Have you tried to start Firefox in Mode safe? Key 'shift' startup of Firefox. If it doesn't happen in Mode without failure, you should read the extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common troubleshooting Firefox problems.

    I have a Satellite A30 and sometimes it does not start.
    After turning on, not even the BIOS starts.
    even if sometimes the BIOS starts, but the OS does not load.

    If no USB devices are connected, it starts without a problem.
    Even if the start-up is suspended, as soon as you unplug start it BIOS USB devices.
    Its ok to connect USB devices later, once the system has started.
    I disabled "removable devices boot" and "network startup."
    just in case, but it makes no difference.

    BIOS is version the most recent (1.70) and it comes up with all kinds of USB devices.
    printer, mouse and (self-powered) external USB hard disk.

    Is this a known issue?
    There is no known workaround solution?

    I put t know why this happens, but it has to do with the BIOS.
    The same thing happened on my old laptop. I couldn't start my unit while the USB printer has been turned on and connected.
    The only solution is to disconnect the external USB device during the boot process.

    RSY you should check if the order of boot in the BIOS has been on the HARD drive first.

  • Windows 7 has become my comments login and I'm locked out of admin

    I've been running W7 Pro 64 bit very happy for two months. When I installed, I made a user account for me with admin privileges (I'm the only user on this machine). All of a sudden yesterday I noticed that I could not do some things and on investigation found that W7 has become my admin account a guest one. Same account name, icon, the user files, but no right! I did nothing to cause it, as far as I know, it just happened. I don't think it's a virus, Kaspersky certainly is not report anything.


    I tried to boot from the DVD and by defining the built in Administrator account, but that the command window told me that the command executed successfully, when I restart I see no administrator account. Because I'm the only user I had previously defined netplwiz to connect automatically and I can't disarm that - I just get a window saying 'entry password administrator to run netplwiz' but there is no password box, probably because that there is no administrator account on the system.


    I seem to be completely locked out from changes to the admin of my system. First thing I will do when I get the machine working again, is to create an alternative admin account to use if it never happens again, but for now, I'm completely stuffed.


    Can someone help, please?

    UPDATE: I booted in safe mode with command prompt and run lusrmgr.msc to view accounts. Administrator account is here, just can't see on login screens. I thought that the administrator password should be blank (or perhaps the same one that I put in place with my initial admin-level account), so I tried shift-right-click netplwiz and selecting run as another user, and then typing in Administrator and white as well as a selection of passwords possible. No joy. It does not accept any combination of names of users and passwords.

    So, how to use the administrator account?

    I have fixed my problem on Windows 7 guest user.  The problem is after I added the computer successfully in my area, I decided to change the name of the computer. So I changed the name and the past of the domain to the working group. After rebooting I connected under the no original domain account, I created, but it was no longer a member of the administrator group and has been labeled as guest user account type.  I had not enabled the administrator account.

    The solution: press F8 at startup for Advanced Startup Options.  Select the option 'Safe Mode with command prompt'.  I was given the opportunity to log on as an administrator, and I did.

    I entered my orders, first to change the admin password then command to activate the administrator account:

    "password net user administrator"-password the password to use.  (Password must meet complexity requirements)

    "net user administrator / Active: Yes.

    Computer restarted and I is presented with the option to connect as administrator.  Connected and managed to create a new account and add to the domain.

BTW, in Readonly properties box is always checked even if I uncheck several times. And I guess for that reason some of my net (Torch) Browsers are broken more often than before and the games that have been totally awesome to work with good graphics are now overdue. The entire HARD drive is read-only.

    To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

    Date and me are dealt with by the network. Try restarting your router/modem...

    Verify that DNS is set to auto

    Make sure port 123 is open on the router (refer to the manual of the router to you)

    Hi, while writing an email online using Firefox 3.6.3, I was using one of the "CTRL + left arrow or right" to move the cursor on the text. I must have pressed some other key because the screen has become huge - and I can't scroll vertically or horizontally, which makes the pages of Mail of Hotmail impossible. I have connected since using the Explorer MSFT and it works very well. This problem occurs only on the page of Mail of Hotmail Live not on the home page or other.
    Could you please let me know if there is a problem with Firefox, or if you have any advice on how to restore the appearance of Hotmail in Firefox?

    Every time that I starts my Mac my library of Photos said that it was open and modified. If I open and change it - this specific date and time cannot be updated in the Finder. He holds the boot time.

    I use iCloud photo library and everything seems to work very well. In fact, it's all about a clean install with a downloaded library of iCloud, essentially it's a new library! I missed a setting? Finder went crazy?

    Yes, I can confirm this is the case, and it seems normal.  I'm guessing it is briefly activated in order to establish contact with iCloud, so he can make any necessary synchronization since it was the last stop.

    KazUtsumi, I recommend first meeting AT & T and check to see if they provide a digital filter for your configuration and make sure that everything is in the right order (generally the fax must be one of the first things that connected to the telephone line).

    With regard to the installation, what else do you have on this line (telephone, answering machine, credit card machine, etc.) or is it a dedicated fax line?
