BT Homehubs... AAARRRGGGHHHH

Exasperated, is a Word to describe how I feel... but directs them to the CabSav Wolfblass, must so fluffy soon...

I think I have another post similar to this elsewhere in this forum, so bear with me...

I already had a BT Homehub 1.0 (circa. 1960' ish...!)

It worked pretty well, but I've always been a little worried about default WEP security and the fact that he was starting to age a bit, then after a little begging I managed to blag a 3 Homehub off BT about a month or two ago...

This has a default WPA2 security and seemed to be a little quicker with regard to internet access.

However, the downside is that my iPad 2 and my wife no longer have "Location Service" active for meteorological applications, mapping etc...

My Mac, iPhone 5 s and my wife laptop Windows both still works OK, and iPads are very good, at the residence of the parents or on hotspots wi - fi...

BT has said it is a problem of iPad... I have to disagree.

This isn't a huge deal, but it's an annoying bitty...!

Thoughts anyone...?

Should I go for a third part of curries or similar unit..?

I am in the United States and are not aware first hand of British Telecom.  But yes, I think it's their fault.

See especially the section "about the accuracy of the location or the accuracy" as well as notes here:

On privacy and location-based Services - Apple Support

Assuming that your iPad's Wi - Fi only, depends on the provider of Wi - Fi to provide the location.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 is not connecting to my router from 3 BT HomeHub

    Hello

I'll put up my new of Officejet Pro 8600 today and I was not able to get connected to my wifi router. If I try to use the wireless configuration wizard, I get an error saying that the password that I entered is incorrect (this is not - I tried several times to be sure) and I can't use the WPS connection option because this feature is currently disabled on the HomeHub 3 routers.

Can I connect the printer directly to a computer (via USB) or router (via ethernet), but none of these options is convenient as a permanent solution, given the current provision of my home office.

MAC filtering is not in place on the router.

You have other options I can try to get this printer running on my home network?

    Concerning

    Sabine

OK - got this problem 10 minutes after posting the original question. Typical!

The solution was to connect to the main desktop via USB and then use the 'Wi - Fi connection transfer' option in the HP configuration utility.

  • HH5 BT + Time Capsule from Apple

Really hoping someone can help with what it drives me crazy!

First of all of background... I got broadband to Plusnet inheriting from their router "technicolor" with my TC attached via a fiber cable. Home network proceeded without the TC wire, sky + worked perfectly (wired and wireless) to transport CANADA, the Mac Mini worked perfectly (wired and wireless) of transport CANADA and the MacBook Air, iPhones and iPads everything has worked perfectly to TC. TC has saved Mac Mini and MacBook Air via Time Machine. This worked perfectly for years, since the establishment. Then...

Seduced by a lot of BT and Plusnet (rare) indifference I changed to BT infinity earlier this year and became the proud owner (?) of their "state of the art" HomeHub 5. Think about what I had to do was swap HH5 and router Technicolor more naïve in the extreme! I searched online and found many people with similar questions and have tried all of the solutions proposed, but I still can't get everything working properly. BT don't/can't help that HH5 works and TC has "nowt don't we! So where am I at?

Using only HH5, everything works perfectly. Once I introduce TC everything can work perfectly for about 15 minutes then I lose the internet connection. All being wired to the Mini, the TC "is unavailable" for Time Machine. I've tried honestly each piece of advice there re order of connections, resets, mode bridge etc but I'm so frustrated by all this. What I want to return to East TC providing the wireless network for home and backups of TM TC the Mini (cable) and Air (wireless). If I can't then I'll reluctantly settle for HH5 providing wi - fi and TC offering only backup functions.

On the Mini and Air, I'm under 10.11.6 and I updated the firmware of TC.

Can someone please help me with this? Thank you.

Think about what I had to do was swap HH5 and router Technicolor more naïve in the extreme! I searched online and found many people with similar questions and have tried all of the solutions proposed, but I still can't get everything working properly.

Unfortunately, if you have tried all the suggested solutions, as you well note... (we do not know what were these)... it is unlikely that we will be able to offer something new.

But just in case... because we do not want to ask you to repeat things you already have... could you provide a list of the things you have already tried?

Sometimes... even though the HH5. is a good modem/router and the TC is a good router so... products do not work well together. This could be the case here.

After all, when things work well and you make a change on your network, and then things don't work correctly... ask yourself ' what has changed?  I think you know the answer.

  • BT SmartHub with airport Time Capsule

I have been using my Airport Extreme (Time Capsule), connected to an infinite number of BT Modem for quite awhile this provision of my wireless network and a large drive to transfer data between iMac and MacBook pro (etc) (I poured the Bt HomeHub 3 in favor of the Airport Extreme). Unfortunately I had to also provide a down WiFi Repeater for total WiFi coverage throughout the House. I just got a new SmartHub BT who now gives me a WiFi coverage at exceptional speeds throughout the House (it's been so far with 2 Infinity Modem).

The problem I have now is that I can't effectively use Time Capsule as my NAS (or at least is what seems to be the case). If I leave on time capsule, its wireless network is visible as before, but of course I can't use it as I have the wireless network BT providing WiFi Internet connectivity. So how to connect the clip time to my 'new' network so that it is visible both the iMac and the MacBook only as a drive.

You have a few choices, both methods require that the Time Capsule (TC) keep in touch with the new HomeHub BT by Ethernet:

    1. Reconfigure the TC as a bridge and disable its wireless radios.
    2. Reconfigure the TC as a bridge and then configure the HomeHub and TC in a mobile network. It would be more logical if you need to expand the network of the HomeHub wireless.
  • AirPort Express will not set up

It must be the 10th right now - all I'm trying to do is to add an AirPort Express Terminal to my home network, with the aim mainly attaching an external hard drive to it.

I have a BT HomeHub 5. Whenever I open AirPort Utility on my iPhone, iMac or MBP, I see the AirPort Express, start the installation, select "Add to the existing network", continue with the rest of the installation.

After awhile, it sets up, I press "done" and it appears in AirPort Utility window. If I change the settings on the airport, it crashes and I have to click on "forget" and do a reset.

The same thing happens if I connect my external hard drive to it.

The craziest thing: closure of the AirPort Utility application and reopening apparently cause the EPA have a yellow triangle next to him and I have no choice but to press on "forget", and the whole cycle repeats again.

    It's very frustrating...

all I'm trying to do is to add an AirPort Express Terminal to my home network, with the aim mainly attaching an external hard drive to it.

A potential problem here is going to be that an AirPort Express will NOT support a hard drive... as the USB port on the Express only supports a compatible USB printer.

-What are you trying to do?  Alternatively, your hard drive will connect to the AirPort Express using wired Ethernet?

The next issue will be 'how' you are trying to connect the AirPort Express Terminal to the HomeHub.  The Express will connect wireless only, or it will connect using wired Ethernet wired, Permanent?

(Your screenshot indicates that the Express use a wired connection to the Hub).

  • Tecra A4: Wlan Intel 2200bg not stable with 802.11 G WLan

With the latest driver re-installed (9.0.4.39), I found a connection to a network of 'g' was unstable. (A little better than before you reinstall, when it connect to a network of 'g', but does not have all the data.)

With a BT Homehub, now a router DLink DSL-2640R (TalkTalk) I found that to have a stable connection with the latest version of the driver is to configure the router to use only 'b' network. But it's slower.

Until I got a different router (recent change of telco provider) I assumed it was a problem of BT Homehub (believe me, I had spent some time trying to solve the issue!). However, now that I've tried both routers and found the same problem, I thought it would be a problem with the configuration of the laptop...

I kept many downloads wireless driver I have installed and tried to think of the happy times when cell phones and the homehub were happy to communicate on a network of 'g '. I went back to 9.0.4.17 driver version and guess what, all problems disappeared with the new router, and fortunately it is connected to a network of 'g '.

Normally, the Council is to use the latest version of the driver, then why I would have success with an older driver. What have I done wrong? I tried different types of encryption available and it did not affect the problem.

I've got the box to allow windows to configure my network. I when I tried using the software Proset, but who stopped the ConfigFree to run correctly so I went back to the original set upward there.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I have to do to get a stable connection to a network of 'g' with an Intel 2200bg with the latest driver (9.0.4.39)? I am suspicious that I can run into other issues if I continue to use the old driver?

There are always problems of compatibility with wireless products, particularly when connecting different brands. Manufacturers are constantly updating the drivers for the problems, but sometimes it can introduce problems with old ones as the 2200BG card.

First thing to do is update the firmware on your router, and then update the drivers for the wireless adapter. If later drivers do not work, it won't hurt to return to a previous version.

You can also try to change the advanced settings in the properties of wireless adapters in Device Manager. For example, try the configuration to "802.11 g only", try another channel, try different power settings, etc...

  • Photosmart 5524: MGP1CN1610AR update the Firmware on HP PhotoSmart 5524 on September 14, 2016 broke wireless printing

I have a question which I believe is related to the MGP1CN1610AR firmware update that was released on September 14, 2016 and auto installed on my HP Photosmart 5524.  Since the update I can print is no longer my laptop Windows 10, or my iPhone with iOS 10.  I can, however, send an e-mail to my HPEPrint account and this shows with success - which proves that the printer is connected to the internet and WiFi.

My network is provided by my BT HomeHub 5 with BT infinity.  The status of router, the printer displays intermittently as connected then disconnected.  This is since the update of the firmware.

Is it possible to restore the firmware on the printer? OR is there a known solution to get my WiFi printing works again.

    Hi RTD_HPUser,

    Thank you for your answer!

I'm glad you found a solution that worked for you. About the firmware, as long as the Web service is enabled, you can select the icon Web Services, settings, and then select printer Update, then the update is automatic, and turns off. This will prevent the firmware update on the printer.

  • Firefox said it is unable to connect to the net but IE and the signal is strong

Firefox has been great until this afternoon. Then all of a sudden it gave me an error message that he was "unable to connect." "" The laptop thinks it entirely connected wireless to the Homehub. I have been in contact with BT that kept me in line with IE and say that the problem is with Firefox. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and I'm still getting the message that it is unable to connect. Help, please!
PS Firefox works perfectly on my desk.

One possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or limits Firefox or plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

Delete all rules for Firefox in the list of permissions in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

I know this because I'm doing a test of speed before and after the opening of the laptop using my PC.

The wireless network connection is disabled, disabled 1394 connection and only LAN OK.

My question is: how a laptop computer that is not on the internet brings to BB speeds.

To be honest, the whole story is a little understandable and strange for me.

  • Windows update fails-G62-225DX - bad startup a factory?

My nephew came to me recently with a G62-225DX HP, concerned about safety.  Given this machine is several years old (recently handed down from his father - I quickly understood why), I was surprised to see she was always being basic Windows 7 Home Premium.  Without SP1.

My first attempt to resolve this was to run Windows Update - no luck - immediately fails with "cannot run - services is not started.  Of course, verification services, yes I see WU and BITS running.

So, like any good tech person, I check in the case where the logs and see various errors, including the constant complaints on the Crypto database being corrupted.

Then, up to be Googling for these symptoms/messages.  I see many people with the same problem and a lot of suggestions on how to fix this (re - reg WU, STRANDS of clear/reset, flush/empty C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, catroot2 flush/empty, etc.).  Even seen one on the Intel hard drive problems due to replace it with a drive of more than 500 GB (this unit still has the original 320).

Spent hours trying all the suggestions there, especially when people said 'Yes, that fixed', nothing helps.

Since it was not something of value on this machine, I decide backup and restore "factory".

Imagine my surprise when, after reset of the image 'factory', it has exactly the same problem - Windows Update fails, out-of-the-box on the right!

I think to myself, it's crazy.  The machine is faulty from the start and everyone was naïve to not get Windows updates, AT ALL!

I even decided to try the Windows Update Checker (supposed to perform before installing SP1) and it fails with ' Windows Update Standalone install encountered and error - 0xc80000247 ".

So, I decided to run through the suggested fixes (from M$, no less) and all of a sudden, that Windows Update works.

I thought, it's fantastic.  He immediately calls to > 130 fixed critical.

After a few hours of download and installed, I restart only to get a BSOD - STOP 6 b - AAARRRGGGHHHH!  Tried to go through Windows restore previous checkpoint but that too fails with a mysterious error.  In addition, many Google hits on the 6 b says that it's a hardware problem.  But he was executed until the Windows update, with nothing in the case where newspapers to indicate hardware problems.

Then, I decided to do a restore from the image of what I started with.  At least it ran, even though she could not be updated.

I no longer dig and see a bunch of updates to the firmware/software for this machine, including the BIOS.  Even saw some strange 'Windows updates' HP.  I thought maybe it was something like the fiasco when the power management update for Intel processors had on machines AMD, thus paralyzing them!  Still nothing - WU still does not work!

Tried again to return to the original image, hoping that maybe to install all updates of office/hardware/driver on a virgin machine solve the problem.  Nope-WU still does not work.  Even went back through all the suggested fixed (saved as .bat files everthing).  Nothing, nada...

So, I'm posting here in hopes that someone has a miracle cure that I missed.

    Hello:

    I don't have a magic bullet...

The same thing happened to me while working on a friends HP 8100 Elite CMT, Windows 7 Pro, HP original image.

Would not install SP1 or Windows updates. I tried every trick in the book and after spending more than two hours, going nowhere, including restore from the recovery discs, I decided to install a plain OS W7 clean add drivers myself using the product key for W7 on the PC.

    It has worked well.

You can do the same thing if you can read the product key of W7 on the bottom of the laptop, and your nephew can't live without programs that was shipped with the PC.

In addition, if you format the drive and just install W7 on current partition, you can probably find the program of the installation files for the programs supplied with the PC in the SWSetup folder.

Here's how to do when you don't have installation of W7 media.

Use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive using the USB compilation method.

Use the product key of windows 7 of 25 characters to activate your installation.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below. Download the Windows 7 version that is on your product (Home Premium, professional or ultimate) key to apply.

  • Nighthawk D7800 and BT Infinity 2

My first time here so apologies for any errors of Protocol.

I bought the Nighthawk to replace my BT Homehub 3 and a modem to connect to broadband Infinity 2 (fiber).

I managed to connect to the internet via the BT modem so I know the system works. What I want to do is to connect the modem to the Nighthawk directly to the internet. I don't think that this can be done unless someone can tell me otherwise.

I, the tongue in cheek, contacted BT and confirmed that they use a system of wiring on the telephone connection to connect to fiber (FTTC) via the copper to the home line, which is unique. The phone connector uses only the Center contacts both in the plug, connected to which wires I don't know, while the Nighthawk uses all four threads, it seems. BT does not use a filter on the line because it is built in the area of incoming phone line. So the Nighthawk can only connect directly from the VDSL Jack to the telephone line. The internet connection on the Nighthawk decision-making only connects to the BT modem.

So, is it possible to connect to the fiber using the Nighthawks modem? I've conversed with support from Netgear and in their described wisdom and got sent - the manual method of Nighthawk, which I already explained did not have what I wanted. I'm still waiting for a further response from support, but not holding my breath.

It seems that I bought a very expensive router!

    Michael,

    Popular sympathy.

My Nighthawk played happily with internet provided that I have connected through my BT modem. The reason why I got the D7800 was because I wanted to use it a modem not BT proposing to connect to my fiber (sic, English).

I don't think right now that Netgear has a modem that is able to connect to the infinite fiber BT service.

I think I'll draw a line under this thread and concede defeat.

    Thank you
