  First of all, where is the "printer software" to start the scan?

  Both models supports up to 1200 DPI for scanning of flat glass (75, 100, 200, 300, 600, 1200)

  7640 envy, the upper tray supports up to 300 DPI (75, 100, 200, 300).

  Please guide me through to get to a different scan resolution.  I have changed the settings in Word and went from 200 X 200 to a maximum of 300 X 300.  Card saying that I should be able to get up to 1200 X 1200.  What I am doing wrong?  Also tried Excel, using the scanner on the printer icon HP Desktop (vs using the screen on the printer).  Same question if vs color B & W.  Is it a matter of winning 10?  No work around?

  When scanning resolution is poor, how can I increase it to 300 DPI max... How to save picture under. BMP it currently only gives three options, PDF, OCR, or JPEG

  Well well after literally hours of Googling being impossible to find anything at all on this unit or any other site, a friend suggested that I open the area to set up scanner on Mac itself... and to my amazement after a little digging here, I was able to find the settings for the CIO and the file type save high-resolution BMP images.
  Why hell HP do not display anything in their pages help or on the LCD of the printer to indicate how do, I'm not sure. I'll be happy to send a screenshot to anyone who needs this info.

  Yes, you can set the default scanning at 300 dpi resolution.

  If you use it regularly, you can actually 'create new shortcut '.

  Reduce the printed copy:

  1. go to "Copy" on the front panel

  2. Select the setting (small icon with wheels)

  3. scroll to "Resize".

  4. press on the icon «Back»

  5 copy!

  Amazon listed specs say 1200 dpi scan resolution but direct scan from printer to option max drive (without printer connected to the computer) on printers the inch touchscreen is 600. Is it possible to 1200? Otherwise, this model printer is the best res scan options - thank you

  Welcome to the Community Forum of HP.

  Well that being ignored somewhat in the User Guide , I suspect that 600 dpi restriction is due to the way in which you use the function of scan - in other words, you are bypassing the use of the Full Feature software which would benefit from the 1200 dpi capabilities available in the print driver.

  For example - the Windows version of the software full feature offers the Printer Wizard utility, which, in turn, provides an analysis of Document or Photo program.  In this procedure, you can control the IPR analysis.   I think you could access the full 1200 dpi you're looking for.

  Yes, this method is a little extra work if your goal is to place the final scan on a USB key files.

  I don't know the answer to the second part of your request, that, what printer supports 1200 dpi scanning to USB key.

  Change the source in "Scan always of glass", it does not scan in resolutions higher than 300 dpi.

  I bought an all-in-one Photosmart HP 5520 printer that supposedly "up to 1200 x 2400 dpi. However, despite the fact that the scan to computer option is expected to have an option to change the scanning resolution, one such option does not seem to exist - in the General settings or in the scanning settings.   The printer will scan at higher resolutions through the HP software on the computer. Since you use Yosemite, however, is not full software functionality available right now, but you can scan through the Apple software. This software should also allow you to scan at higher resolutions.

  I use the HP SCAN application to scan from my Photosmart.  I like it because it allows me to crop to size limited.  However, it seems to only scan at 200 DPI.  I want a higher resolution of scanning.  I know how to change it in system preferences, but HP SCAN does not use these settings.

  Hi Ratko,

  300 DPI is the maximum resolution for the automatic document feeder which is set by default, so the higher resolutions are not listed.

  The HP Scan software configured the source that the glass flat rather the default option of the ADF, then you should see higher resolutions of scanning in the drop box.

• HP envy 4500 problems scanning - used to work, now, not so much

  I tried to solve this problem for over 3 hours now so apologies if shows my frustration.

  Equipment:

  MacBook pro under OS X 10.9.2

  Apple airport express router

  HP Envy 4500 all in one printer/scanner

  I can print without problem.

  Using the HP Scan application, I get this message:

  

  My camera looked good in regards to connectivity on my computer in system preferences, then I went to the screen of printer control in the menu 'Wireless' and I tried to redo the wireless configuration. I typed in my network name and the printer can't find my network. I have continued in any case, left the network name in and typed the wi - fi password, still no luck.

  So I tried the WPS in place. The screen just kept looking, and nothing connected.

  So, I tried to download the drivers from the HP site and guess what? The driver is installed on my hard drive, but then set it up the window of the HP utility can't find my device is:

  

  I tried to connect the printer directly to the computer with the USB cable, just so he could download the driver, he got as far as the next step, "Configuring device" and who doesn't work anymore:

  

  I tried to restore the default settings on the printer.

  I am beyond frustrated, I'm about to throw it at the wall. Please if anyone has a solution, I'd like to hear it. This printer is not even 5 months old. I HATE when things are not working. I can understand if I did something to it, but I did nothing else until it turned off for a few days.

  Note: I WAS able to scan before without a problem. The only thing I can think is that I put my printer off for a few days because I was not using it.

  Ugh. OK, it's been 4 hours.

  I was able to scan by clicking on HPscan.app.  Now, I get this message.

  Scan reported an error. HP ENVY 4500 series AirPrint is currently unavailable.  Please check if it is connected and turned on, or try again later.    Where can I find AirPrint?

  I also used to be able to scan using HP Scan Pro.app.  Now I get a message Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found)

  I understand that you are unable to scan with your HP Envy 4500 printer.   You are unable to scan because the driver of Airprint support printing only, do not scan. It is possible that an Apple update he could change.

  To resolve this problem, it must add the printer using the HP driver.

  Fix permissions of the drive on the Mac:

  1. Close all applications.
  2. In the Apple menu, click OK, click Applications, and then click utilities.
  3. Double-click disk utility.
  4. Highlight your hard drive / partition on the left.
  5. Click on check and then repair disk permissions.
  6. Restart the computer.

  Reset the printing system:
  Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer deleted can be re-added later by clicking the sign plus (+) symbol.

  1. Click on the Apple icon and then click on System Preferences.
  2. Click on Printers & Scanners.
  3. Make a right click (or Ctrl + click) in the left white side panel, and then click Reset Printing System.
  4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
  5. Type the name and the correct password.
  6. Click OK to reset the printing system.

  Add the printer:

  1. Then click the + to add the driver, select the printer (you may need to click the drop down menu to select the name of the printer).
  2. Then click the Add button. Do not add driver AirPrint.
  3. Now, try to scan the image.

• get the status of 4500 printer wireless hp envy line after changing the wireless router.

  I use 8.1 window and I want to HP 4500-e printer all in one and all a works very well. My wireless router was going bad, so I replaced it. After the installation of the new router and get all my computers and devices (including the hp 4500 wireless printer) connected to the new network, I tried to print. The printer is waiting to print which was sent to her, but its status is set to offline mode. The box in the sign that says "set printer to run in offline mode" is not checked. but the status says HP ENVY 4500 SERIES (NETWORK) - in offline mode.  Anyone else has this problem and do you know how to solve this problem. I tried to turn off the computer and the printer and restarting their and running a hp Diagnostics program, but he says that everything works fine.
