HP Officejet Pro K5400: Replaced an ink cartridge, but it still considers that it must be replaced!

Very recently, I replaced my yellow ink cartridge and it worked fine for a few days, but now the printer tells me that he should be replaced, even though I replaced it a few weeks ago! It's never happened before.

I can't find any online solution that worked... any suggestions?

Thank you!!!

Hello efieg,.

Thank you very much for your answer! I have found a document of troubleshooting for you I'll post for you below. Maybe reset the printer and clean the contacts can solve this problem.

I hope this helps, let me know how it turns out, and if you are still experiencing a problem with your reading yellow cartridge incorrectly.

  • OfficeJet Pro 6830: Installed new ink cartridges on 6830, but they were not full

I've been using this printer for about two years now, been through "Print head problem" for both, they exchanged once and replace only the part once.

My ink colour C, M and there were emptied at the same time, so I ordered all three in an online store. I installed a few minutes ago and check the ink level via the touch screen of the printer. It turns out that they are not quite complete. They are almost full, C and are close to full, but M is less complete.

I wonder why this happens? I never checked the ink level in the past, but it surprises me. The printer makes some kind of calibration and printhead cleaning to get ready installed ink? (So consumed little ink)

I scanned the QR code on the side of boxes of ink and checked the hologram stickers and pretty sure that they are genuine. The printer also said that they are authentic.

Here is the picture of my ink level. Shot after installation of the cartridge and nothing printed.

Another strange thing is the date of installation. Now it is April 4 in my country but the web printer configuration page shows cartridge installation date is April 1! I checked the date and the printer and everything is OK.

If the cartridges have been used before, the printer screen would show a message that cartridges have been used on another front printer. I saw only me because I kept the old ink before trading in the past as I said up there.

    Please see a screenshot below

Everyone knows what happened? Or it's normal? (The packaging and seal in plastic cartridges seemed fine, nothing suspected weird)

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the HP Forums

    @BlackMiracle,

I came across your post about the concerns that you have with the help of your new ink cartridges and I wanted to share my own suggestions. The date being out for a few days is a bit strange, but the rest seems normal. Yes, when you install the cartridges, they are calibrated and alignment and clean, that uses a bit of ink. The levels that you see are also "estimated" levels If there are print quality problems or error messages, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

    I hope this helps!

  • OfficeJet Pro K5400

First of all, I thank very you MUCH, for this day for free help!

I had my Officejet Pro K5400 for several years.  Great performance.

I am on Windows 7 and Office 2010.

About 2 weeks ago, I started having bad print quality.  Read my manual and got to the line for the tips of the latter.

Replace all color cartridges.  No improvement.

Has replaced the two print heads.  PERFECT! ….. for 2 days.

Walked to the office this morning and the two printer lights are flashing and the green power button.

Got online and went through every process of HP solution to

    http://h20566.www2.HP.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.page/public/KB/docDisplay/?spf_p.TPST=kbDocDispl...

    No improvement whatsoever.

I read that some issues may be related to Printer Spooler, but I don't know anything about.

VERY discouraged after spending so much on the new cartridges and print heads.

I have my original printer software installation disc.

    Hope you can help.

Interesting (loan of four another printer cartridges and don't see any printing).  It would make sense to me and I know that I wouldn't think about a problem connecting microsoft HP.  I'd be inclined to think that your printer, independent of all cartridges, got stuck trying to talk to the cartridges.  You could put the four cartridges borrowed from the other printer, then try to send the image of the diagonal lines on the printer, I hope everything will work correctly.  If Yes, then I would work on your printer, not on the cartridge (more correctly, the combination of the head of printing/tank) but on the points of contact on the printer that connect to the cartridge.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 print is Cyan and yellow all of a sudden. Help, please...

OfficeJet Pro K5400 Cyan and yellow just stopped working at the same time (very strange).  I have read almost every post and tried almost everything including diagnostic tests that show that all is well (via the keys on the printer), test and all the other available tests in the manual of HP cleaning several times.  The diagnostic test shows no problem and brand new and full cartridges to max.  However the diagnostic characters shows that black and Magenta, but no Cyan, yellow or any other color.  I took out the printheads, cleaned connectors, soak the heads and everything else you can imagine and not luck. I need to have finished the power and "hard reset" on a dozen times.  I can't imagine that two printhead (cyan on a yellow on the other) has just decided to die at the same time.  I can't be driver/software related because I did the tests directly from the printer.  The only thing I can think is maybe cyan and yellow parched when I took out the cartridges at staples with me to reference.  All cartridges have been taken out of the printer for 2 weeks or more.  Any thoughts?

Ouch - two weeks with the cartridges removed probably allowed 'plumbing' between the cartridges and printer to dry and clog.  If the print head and cartridges were never removed and it is also possible for the tubes to drain and air to block channels of ink.

You tried to clean the printhead a couple of times, I suggest three levels of cleaning in the sequence of head running.  Each level of cleaning up to three will be a more energetic cleaning.  You have probably already found the Troubleshooting page here.

Scroll down this page and click on the + to expand the Windows section, then scroll down to the section on executing a cleaning of the Control Panel, click on the +.  It is said:
  • OfficeJet Pro K5400 - loss of functionality in Windows 7

Since the upgrade of our PC from XP to Windows 7, we have experienced a huge loss of functionality when printing our of Officejet Pro K5400 (cannot print to the edge of the pages, can not specify substrates, change the resolution, etc.)

Our HP reseller from whom we bought the printer actually just washed their hands of this issue "that's the way things are, HP are better than many other manufacturers to provide drivers for the existing hardware, update of the operating system".

It seems ridiculous to me that HP will feel it is reasonable to not continue to support relatively recent kit parts that work well - just another example of built in obsolescence? Is there a way we can restore the missing feature? How about you, Vista driver - is that have relevance?

Come on HP - standing behind your product and we restore the characteristics that we need to make this useful printer once again!

This printer driver must be included in Windows 7 already.

Here is the document that I found for your printer when I was looking for the drivers:

  • FIC Ip HP Officejet Pro K5400

I'm helping friends with their HP Officejet Pro K5400, which is connected to a router that cannot use fixed IP addresses. Is it possible to set up a fixed IP with the printer?

We will set an IP address of the printer:

-Print a the front of the printer Network Setup Page. Note the IP address of the printer.
-Enter the IP address in a browser to reveal the internal settings of the printer.
-Choose the network tab, then wireless along the left side, then on the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). You can change the DHCP of the router range using its internal settings page.
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Enter the IP of your router (on the Page of the Network Config) for the bridge and the first DNS. Let the second white.
    -Click 'apply '.

Now, stop the router and printer, start the router, wait, and then start printing.

After that, you will have to redo 'Add printer' using the new IP address.

  • Officejet Pro L7555 replacement ink cartridges

I have a HP Officejet Pro L7555 printer.  It uses HP 88XL size printer cartridges, but lately, I haven't seen this size of cartridge in my local stores.  The 88XL has been replaced and this is the new model of cartridge No. ?

    Hey 2davidc8,

  • OfficeJet Pro 6830: replaced warranty for printer and cartridges of manipulation

My Officejet Pro 6830 AiO printer doesn't have 3 months after purchase (power supply is ok, but it no longer lights). I contacted HP support and a replacement printer is on the way.
Unfortunately I replaced all ink cartridges 'setup' 4 with brand new just a few days before the failure of the printer, so I asked the Lady to support (good person) if and how I can recover the defective device.
She told me to take off the cartridges of the faulty unit and retain them for the replacement printer, but was to serve once the "setup" cartridges sent with the unit will be out of ink.

    Now, I have some doubts:

    (1) when I take my full semi the defective printer cartridges, I fear that the ink will start to dry... should I cover the opening at the bottom of the cartridges with tape? Will it be enough?

    (2) the ink in the printhead of the defective unit will start to get dry as well. The defect of the device is clearly in electronics, while the print head has worked perfectly. Isn't bad to leave the print head is clogged by dry ink? I still have empty cartridges "setup" out (differentiation 'stock' of waste...) should I put them on the print head?

    (3) the defective printer does not turn so to loosen its cartridges, I need to manually pull the cart of the printhead to the center position. Is it Ok?

Thanks to all those who will clear this point to me.

    Hi @RickyGold,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see that you have questions about your printer HP Officejet Pro 6830. I am happy to answer these questions for you!

    To answer your questions:

    1. To properly store the cartridges, I suggest you put them in an airtight container, such as a ziplock bag or Tupperware. Make sure that the contacts on the cartridges are not touch anything.
    2. I wouldn't worry about the obstruction with the defective printer printhead.
    3. I suggest to try to move the cartridge door manually, but don't force it, if it will not move freely. If you are unable to get the cartridges, please contact HPtelephone support for further assistance. As they would be able to replace the cartridges for you. (After you fill out the information, you will receive a phone number.) If you do not live in the United States / Canada region, please click the link below to get help from your region number. According to the lights are flashing, consult this document lights flashing for it.

This document offers some troubleshooting options that can help you. However, one thing I would try is a reset power coercive. Powered up, remove the cartridge from boredom. Close the ink access door. Do not turn off the printer with the power button. Instead, remove the power cord at the back of the printer. Wait at least 30 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord to the printer. Turn on the printer. Open the door of ink. Take a look at the location of the ink, just to be sure, that there is not a large excess ink in the stall. Reinsert the ink cartridge. Close the door. Once the noise stop, turn off the printer by the power button. Then turn it back on. If all goes well, will erase the question. If this is not the case, see if this document offers help.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8170: Pending instant ink?

    Hello!

CEN I hope help with this question. I bought my OfficeJet Pro 8170 steeplechase, finished the installation program and is enrolled in the InstantInk no problem. Connected HP says that my printer is online and ready to use, and it is registered to instant ink HP. However, on the printer itself, the display shows he still expects the Onlune Setup progress remaining to be done. It's me invites to go to hpinstantink.com, but I did it, and this site shows me that the recruitment is done so. I can't make the view on the change of printer and I can't turn it off - the printer comes repeatedly prompts to complete the installation even if I already did.

I unplugged the printer and plugged in; Once the printer reconnected to my wireless network, he returned to offer me the options of 'Instant Ink HP no.' or 'Wait '.

Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Is your printer the 8710 Officejet Pro I think the printer is working as my Officejet Pro 8620 - you can sign up for the moment of ink, but the subscription (and charges) will not start until you install one or more instant ink cartridges in the printer.  You should be able to say "No. HP Instant Ink" in the Setup and use installation cartridges until they are exhausted.  When the cartridges of configuration are exhausted, you can replace them with instant ink cartridges and your subscription will start.

If you wish to contact instant ink HP people go to https://instantink.hpconnected.com/ and scroll down the page a bit.  There will be a link to the chat or telephone near the top right of the page
