Satellite P300 - 18 M - Windows Setup cannot continue
Hi, my first post here, hoping for any help.
I recently bought a Satellite P300 - 18 M, from an independent retailer with no return policy. good on the PC is a brand new, sealed, etc and I get the Toshiba standard warranty.
When I do the initial installation I received a message all in settng upward of Windows Vista Home "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error." Windows Setup cannot continue. To install windows click on 'OK' to restart the computer announced then rstart installation. »
I tried a few times more full-time catering and the third HARD drive it installed, but...
either he starts, I get to the password screen then all invent locks, the mouse pointer freezes then the screen becomes full of horizontal lines.

Toshiba software error, so no warranty claim and advised that I buy the DVD (£29.90) that I ordered it, on a delivery of 14 days of recovery.
Any other help or suggestions much appreciated as im not confident of this DVD, being a brand new sealed unit, why corript of Vista in the first place.

In my view, that the P300 is equipped with the ability to drive HARD recovery. This means that you could restore the operating system of the image that is stored on the HARD drive.
To do this, you will need to power the laptop and must press the F8 key.
A start menu should appear, then you should choose the first option called fix my computer.
Then, you must choose the option called Toshiba HDD recover or something like that. It should be the last option.
This procedure helps you reinstall Vista again.
This facility could be that you can burn the own recovery disk using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.
But if the recovery of HARD drive does not work you will need to use your orderly recovery DVDs and have to restore it again.
If the laptop will not properly work after using Recovery then DVDs I recommend to contact the ASP again and to explain the whole story.

I have this error message and called technical support from microsoft, we have tried to reinstall Vista again once I had tried three times with the same error message. It would freeze to "complete installation." even let him all night to see if he needed more time to complete on its own, but nothing helps...the technician told me I have a hardware problem, but when I installed XP on it everything works correctly.

So was the question then? You can run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to see if there are compatibility issues that you have with hardware or software that would prevent an upgrade to Windows Vista.

I'm trying to install windows 7 64 on a 32-bit with the custom installation option. All is well until that right at the end of the installation it gives me this error "Windows Setup cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed. I tried this several times but the same results. I used the windows Upgrade Advisor to see if my computer is compatible and it is no problem.

Restore the previous installation of Windows and do the following:
1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
4. check your hard disk for errors:
Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.In addition, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it will scan your system and provide a report telling you if your PC can run Windows 7, and if there is no compatibility problems with your hardware or programs.

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.
If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling.

Click Install now
Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 8 click Next.
You will receive the following warning:
The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.
(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK
The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.
Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.
You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

I tried to install Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade, 32-bit version. My current system is an Intel iMac (later), with Windows XP - SP3 loaded as a virtual machine with Parallels Desktop 4.0 build 3848 (according to their website, it is supposed to support Windows 7).
I allocated enough space RAM and HARD drive of the virtual machine to run Windows 7. No matter what I do, when I try to run setup.exe, I get the error message: "the file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0x7E].
The file 'autorun.dll' is present on the disk.
I saw on the internet that other people have also had this problem, with or without Parallels Desktop, and get a replacement DVD of Windows 7 program made no difference to them. Nor is it an available answer, I've seen.
My Windows 7 disc is new, so I was hoping that Microsoft could solve the problem for me?

OK, so, this response is a little late to come, but if you never solved...
I just encountered the same problem - editing similar (Mac, Parallels 5 in my case, the SP3 of XP, MS Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade) - you must make sure that the DVDROM drive hardware is mapped to "D:" on your XP installation. Thus on the Parallels Desktop menu go to devices, CD/DVD1 and make sure that all your actual DVD player is called is selected (should be the vertical entry in the menu) - not true CD/DVD. The reader should then start and auto run.I hope this helps... -
