WRT54G troubleshooting

Hello

Just try to configure my WRT54G (v2.0) I had in stock in recent years.  I've updated the firmware 4.21.1.  I have another router to work which is connected to a FIOS line.  When I swap out them and power cycle everything I can't have a connection by using the WRT54G.  I can connect to the router fine.  I use just cables w / both, do not treat w / wireless again.  Just an XP and vista computers on the network, nothing crazy.

Here are my settings for the two routers:

Automatic configuration - DHCP

Manual MTU 1492

DHCP enabled

The IP address of the router 192.168.1.1

Starting address 192.168.1.100

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

UPnP disabled (tried to activate, no good)

I'm mssing something or is this router dead?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

All the security settings were very good.  I found the problem.  I need to clone the MAC address of the old router so that the "modem" FIOS would recognize my router.  Then I had to go to configuration-> advanced-> operating Mode routing and select gateway rather than a router.  Right after that.

Thanks for the help.

  • Troubleshoot WRT54GS-> problem connecting WRT54GL.

This is the configuration I had until recently: DSL-> (by wire)-> WRT54GS-> (by wire)-> WRT54GL-> (via radio)-> computer.  Basically, the GL is an access point.  Unfortunately yesterday he stopped working for some reason, so I did a hard reset on the router (30 seconds by holding down the reset button), and I have not been able to restore. I tried to do it via the following steps:

    (1) make sure that only my laptop and power are connected to the GL via a LAN port (and the power supply).

    (2) uncheck all boxes in the firewall section.

    (3) disable the built in firewall.

    (4) * apply settings *.

    (5) according to the installation program, click on "advanced routing" and change it to "router" mode

    (6) * apply settings *.

    (7) according to the base configuration, disable DHCP.

    (8) assign the router an IP address that is not in the GS range (192.168.0.2) DHCP.

    (9) set the time on the GL.

    (10) unplug my laptop of the GL.

    (11) connect the cable of the GS in the GL via a LAN, not the WAN port port.

    (12) to plug my laptop in the GL test via a LAN port.

Here is what I do to test (with laptop (wireless)-> gl (wire)-> gs (wire)-> dsl):

    (1) see if I can get DHCP from the SG on the laptop.  So far, I was unable to do so.  However, the DHCP table of the GS (status-> LAN-> Table Clients DHCP) says he cannot see the laptop, but it assigned a DHCP entry.

    (2) see if I can ping the GS, GL or another computer on the network to the laptop via a wired connection.  So far, I was unable to do so.

    (3) see if I can ping the GL or the laptop to your desktop connected wireless to the GS.  So far, I was unable to do so.

    (4) when it does not, swear (it's cathatric at least), do a "hard reset" on the router by holding the button stays down for 30 seconds and start again at the top.

(Please note: at this point the only active wireless is the GS.)  The wireless on the GL is disabled.)

I tried the steps above, three times and it didn't work.  The only other thing I can think of is to configure the GL to work instead of the GS and see if I can get a wired connection to my dsl.  DSL-> (wire) GL-> (wire) laptop.

I don't know what else to try... anyone have suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Well I fixed it.  In short, I deleted Zone Alarm from my laptop, re-flashed the firmware stock and re-set the GL.  Everything works now.  I do not feed cycle nothing except the GL (I have not seen your most recent post which suggests that carrot).  Despite the closure, ZA must have been screwing with the flash or the juuuust configure enough to screw up somehow.

I don't know why I did not mention Zone Alarm earlier because I know it's a terrible program that will continue to block traffic even after stopping, or why I'm not deleting it earlier, but I guess I thought "stopping is good enough."  As I just discovered, no, l ' down is not good enough.

Moral of the story: I don't like Zone Alarm, and he doesn't like me.  If you can't get your router/wap/what is working, and you are running Zone Alarm, remove it and try again the configuration/flashing/whatever.

  • WRT54G windows 7 without Internet

    Firmware v1.1 4.21.1

    Hello

General information... as a short but detailed as possible

I have the wired connections that follows:

    Desktop PC (Windows7)

    Bedroom PC (XP)

    Printer

    PS3

    wireless connections:

    Room 2 PC (XP)

    Laptop (XP)

I had all this running smoothly across the router from W7 is released and installed on the desktop computer.

Yesterday, our internet lost space through our cable provider. Came back on today, but here's where the problems start.

I confirmed service service providers is back upward by connecting the modem directly to the desktop. Everything is ok.

I then tried to connect through the router WRT54G, but W7 tells me that I have no internet access. I can connect to 192.168.1.1 OK, but on the status page, it shows me the following:

    IP address: 0.0.0.0

    Subnet mask: 0.0.0.0

    Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

None of the list of the DNS 1, 2 or 3.

Troubleshooting network in W7 I said the "DNS server not responding".

Trying to do a ping test 192.168.1.1 in the Administration tab says "network is unreachable".

The local DHCP Active IP network Table / status shows my DT 192.168.1.100 but agin not able Ping this address, again "network is unreachable".

I tried options DHCP Release and rescued, but nothing changes.

My next step was to reflash the firmware and power cycle the router but still no change.

This is so, I can't access the internet through the router (only directly from the modem to the PC) so I get a lot of grief for children who want to play the PS3, but more important still, I can't online from my workstation in the bedroom. I would be surprised if the router is dead despite his age, because I can access the page to admin without problem.

Any ideas on what I can do to get everything working again.

    THX

    Update

Two power cycles later and all work again. Don't know why, but hayho.

  • Internet connection no longer works with WRT54G Router V3

I had a router WRT54G V3 works successfully for a few years now, with a couple of PC wireless via a cable modem Comcast as my ISP.  All of a sudden yesterday, no PC can access the internet.  No changes had been made to the router.

I contacted Comcast and they had me of course wire hard one from my PC to the cable modem.  It worked and I was able to access the internet.  However, when I tried to put the router in place (in a wired or wireless), I couldn't access the internet.

I tried after the Linksys online troubleshooting documentation.  The lights that lights turn on on the router are on.  I can access the router setup web page that displays the settings still intact.  I tried to go through the sequencing of power without result.  Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would suddenly stop working.  My wireless printer still works as well as it detects a signal and my PC shows that it is connected, but no internet access is possible.

What should I do?  Are there other available diagnostic tools?  Cat people won't help because I am out of warranty.

First update the firmware for routers to the last level.  Once hard reset the router and reconfigure from scratch.  Now, try to connect again.

  • Access Internet WRT54G/PLTE200/WRT150N problems

And here's one for you the guru out there...

I have a complicated network.  I have a DSL modem connected to the port of my WRT150N (Router 1) intenet Novatel.  I have a lan connection to a Powerline PLTE200 adapter that is in communication with his partner Powerline router (Router 2) at the other end of the House.  I have a WRT54G (Router 3) linking ports numbered numbered ports and I have a NAS on one of the Powerline router ports.

I have install Router 1 as a server for LAN DHCP and DHCP disabled on Router 3.  60% of the time that I can access internet from computers connected to router 3 wireless.  If I'm in the middle of the House and unable to connect to the internet on the router 3 I can change for Router 1 and connect to the internet, but not on the router 3.  Router 1 is 192.168.3.1 and Router 3 192.168.3.2.  I can not access router 3 from a computer connected by wire to the Router 1.  I can't access router 1 from a computer connected wireless to router 3.

Router 2 is another of beasty entirely.  I tried using the Powerline of Linksys utility, but it is NEVER the Powerline router or adapter, even when I am connected directly.

When I run ipconfig I sometimes get unexpected addresses on the router 3.  DHCP is configured to 192.168.3.xxx and get the addresses of 169.xxx.xxx.xxx.  With 169 addresses, I can't connect to the internet.  In the last round of troubleshooting, I was not able to verify the addresses when I can connect to the internet.

Here is what I need help:

    1. How can I connect to the Powerline adapters if they do not appear on the usefulness of current line?

    2. can I disable DHCP on the Powerline adapters?

    3. Why is it an intermittent problem?

    4. is there another way to these routers cascading without crawling me through the attic running cable Cat 5?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    (1) I suppose you want all your computers in order to share all printers, Internet connection and possibly also to share files - is that correct?

    (2) it sounds like your (Router 1) WRT150N is connected to the WRT54G (Router 3), using the connected ethernet port LAN port LAN cable - is this correct?

You have much too many problems to try to solve everything at once.  So first, you need simplify your network.  For the moment, disconnect the PLTE200 and Router 2 in the rest of your network.

We will work on Router 1 and Router 3 first:

Assuming that the answers to questions 1 and 2 above are Yes, then you must configure the Router 1 and 3 in agreement with my post at this address:

    http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/Linksys/board/message?board.ID=Wireless_Routers&message.ID=108928

You can continue to use the 192.168.3.1 address for Router 1.

For simplicity (of the sort that I don't get confused) Please change the "local IP address" of the router 3 to 192.168.3.3

After completing the above configuration, test your system.  You should be able to access the Internet from a computer that is connected by wire or wireless to Router 1 or router 3.

Note that addresses 169.xxx.xxx.xxx simply indicate that you do not have a connection to the router.  This address comes from your computer, not your router.

Do not attempt to access the setup menus in the Router 1 or 3 of wireless router, often fails.  Always use a computer that is connected to your network to access the router configuration pages.

If you have trouble getting the Router 1 and Router 3 to work properly, stop, do not continue with the steps below.  You need to get the Router 1 and Router 3 correctly before continuing work.

    *************************

Only after that you get the Router 1 and router work 3 correctly, if you are trying to connect the Router 2.

Router 2 need to be configured in the same way to router 3, except, please will be Router 2 use the address: 192.168.3.2.  Another channel that Router 1 or router 3 also affect Router 2.    Router 2 once the installation program, then he wire LAN port to the LAN port to the Router 1.  (Do not use the PLTE200 for now).  Make sure all three routers are running approriately.

If you have trouble getting all 3 of your routers works correctly, stop, do not continue with the steps below.  You must get all three routers works correctly before you continue.

    ********************

Only after completing all three routers works properly, and then try adding the PLTE200.  Note that the Powerline adapters must be connected to circuits that are on the 'same' side (left or right) of the electrical box.  You should not use the DHCP server in the power adapter holder online.  Will appear addresses DHCP of Router 1.   Carrier current adapters also prefer to be directly connected to the wall outlet, not to an extension cord.  The Powerline adapters also prefer their own made - they do not share a duplex Jack with another device.

  • WRT54G wireless does not

Hello everyone, I'm at the end of my mind to what he should do about it and I would appreciate assistance from the community.

I have DSL service, two computers with Windows XP and a router WRT54G v8 firmware build 01 v8.00.7.  One of the computers has wired through the router while the other is connected wireless.  My problem is that the router's wireless features do not work, despite all the relevant witnesses (power, WLAN, 1, Internet).  My ISP is not to blame because I can connect to the internet fine through a wired connection to the router.

I used the troubleshooting features in the EasyLink Advisor.  She claims that the router cannot connect to the internet and to check the cable connections and power cycle the modem/router, what I did, without result.  I also reset the router via the administration of browser page, and pressing the reset button at the back of the router for 5 seconds.  I checked the settings on the browser and can not see what is at the origin of the problem.  All my settings are typical, automatic DHCP, WPA TKIP, etc..  I also tried to disable wireless security to see if that helped, but it did nothing.  I'd appreciate any help leading to a solution to this problem!

Thanks for all the help, but I thought about it, sort of.  My router works again after I used EasyLink Advisor 3.0 (using 1.6 or a older version before), and my antenna wireless pci somehow detached, which did not help at all.

  • Very disconcerting issue that happened with my WRT54G

Does anyone know what would cause my router (WRT54G) to reset to the factory settings, just out of the blue?  I have not touched the reset all button.  In fact, I was on my laptop in another room when it happened.  I lost wireless connectivity troubleshooting, I discovered that all my settings have been reset.  Even the password to access the interface on the router reset to factory default.  I was able to fix everything, but I would like to know what caused it.

At first, I thought I can have been hacked, but I have a very strong expression set with WPA2-PSK encryption key.  I also have enabled MAC filtering and only allow access to the PCs that I listed in the MAC filter list.  Fireware is also updated.

I know it is still impossible to hack, but I don't see anyone with the kind of knowledge to beat these security features want to hack my network.

Are there other reasonable explanations of why this happened?

EDIT (I forgot to add 2 things):

    1. There was a power outage here earlier in the day, but I had connectivity in less than an hour after she came on, no problem.

    2. just before that happened, I started having "a duplicate IP address has Ben detected on the network.  It was really strange, because the router distributes the IP via DHCP.  Why he would give one already in use?

This is probably because of the blackout. You can keep a backup of your settings using the backup and restore of tab or use a surge protector to prevent the loss of these parameters in case another failure happens to your router.

The problem of duplication of IP was probably due to the outage as well.

  • connection problems router WRT310N and wrt54gs * with DSL

Until I can return to my apartment and after IPconfig etc. returns I wanted to see if anyone has had the following problem.

I had a home wireless network set up with a wrt54gs v 5... I think it was BOM.

A few days ago I tried to get the network key for the new smartphone and my roommate kind of stupidly locked myself and disconnected my phone then my Office Wireless adapted. passing through the standard power recycles and resets all him remains disconnected in the apartment as well.

I have DSL through verizon, a toshiba satellite a135 with vista installed, all updates of drivers, and a westell 6100 dsl modem provided by my phone company.

    highlights include:

    (1) two nights now troubleshooting and browsing the forum. I have already exhausted simple corrections of linksys on his questions and help section.

    (2) new router, I wanted anyway a new and estimated that he was the problem. So I bought a wrt310N, hung, and he now obtained, there no longer updated set of firmware

    (3) internet connection is fine when I connect to my laptop directly to a dsl modem.

router 4) implements the home network wireless very well, but with no internet connectivity

    (5) computer wired to the modem connects to the internet. wired computer for router modem does not connect to the internet. with two routers. If it connects not wired and wireless won't be better.

I'm getting a little tired and tired, not to mention, I didn't my XBOX live fix to remove the stress of working in a military office all day lol

everything seems to work until the router tries to connect to my dsl provider, at least as far as I can tell.

and I'll be on the phone/forums with my ISP as well to make sure that I am not he mess up simply forgetting to fill in an optional field with info mandatory lol.

    so... help?

still, when I go home for lunch I'll post information and specifications of real hardware if someone a little more savvy I know what to ask.

Any ideas on where I'm wrong now?

    Fixed issue...

in the end, it's a problem between the ISP's modem and the router that they helped me understand.

My DSL service had changed their service, so TRP was no longer how they did the connections. Automatic DHCP was the current form. Following configurations of router DSL online provided inaccurate information. I didn't have the time to check with the ISP until yesterday afternoon when I was finally able to make a phone call and clarify things.

We put the modem into bridge mode, checked some settings on the router, and then everything is back up now.

  • WRT54GS do not "see" modem, but the two seem to work fine.

    Router: WRT54GS V7

    OS: Win XP

Router was fine since it was installed (months; can't remember how much).  Had to reboot a couple of times, but not a big deal.  Today, he suddenly decided that he can no longer see my DSL modem.  All of the lights on the modem; all necessary lights are on the router, but they can't talk to each other for some reason any.

When I connect the modem directly to the computer, the internet is fine.  When I hang in the router, LELA tells me that he has no internet connection.  Troubleshooting has followed to the letter, no luck.  Tried the instructions to set up a DSL connection (where you change 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1), but it was a mess.  Reset the router, no change.

I'm not a geek, so I don't know where to go from here.  Can anyone help?

    Steph VG

Thanks for your solution.  I had actually done everything several times without success.  I had reconnected a lot more quickly as I rec'd an answer here (don't mean to be in a bad mood, just it is the reality of what I do), so I contacted the Linksys customer service and it turned off don't not to be a hardware problem at all; I downloaded the latest version of LELA and everything, it was fixed.

In any case, thank you for taking the time to answer and for your help.

  • WRT54G wireless has stopped working

I got a Linksys WRT54G for several years, and during this period, he worked a lot.  I use it last night, and all of a sudden, my internet connection come fall.  Initially I thought it was just a problem with my internet, but after a few determined troubleshooting my rooter is the problem.  I checked the following:

    1. the Internet works when the computer is directly connected to the modem.

    2. wireless works, can connect to the rooter configuration screen

    3. I can also connect to the rooter Setup screen when connected wireless

Each device seems to work on its own, but when I put the rooter and modem together, I can't access the internet with a wired connection or wireless.  I have tried the following to fix:

    1 power bike all devices

    2 reset all cable connections

    3. reset to factory of rooter

    4. firmware re-installed.

I am out of ideas and have the feeling that my rooter may be toast, but I would appreciate any suggestions.

Who is your Internet service provider...?

Have you power rolled all devices including the router and the modem of your network...?

What is the ip address of the modem... get you?

  • WRT54GS v7.2 difficulties to install

I just bought a v.7.2 WRT54GS recently to get my PS3 and PSP online. I have two computers connected to the internet through a Linksys network hub and a model TM502G modem from Arris Road Runner cable. I ran the CD-ROM supplied with my new wireless router and carried out step by step instructions. The first time I ran it, it captures that I was using the network hub, so I followed the instructions better I could completely out of the hub and all connect through the router. I got the error telling me that the new router or the gateway could not be found, and then I noticed that he was looking for the router as my Local network connection status screen says "invalid IP address". Given that it did not work, I tried to reset my computer and the router and the others, but to no avail. I watched a few messages on the forums of troubleshooting and tried the method to go to http://192.168.1.1/ to change my LAN 192.168.2.1 address to see if this can help, but it was also a failure. So, I tried the firmware downgrade to a version of work confirmed a sticky to make this work with LELA, but still nothing. I ran the Setup program on the CD several times, with the connected router, the router, with nothing else than my modem, and it doesn't seem to work. He finally detected that I had a router, but it is unclear what the wireless. I tried to access the internet via my PSP and I can find a signal from 100% of it, but I can't go on the internet with it (a little a last hope). Y at - it something I am doing wrong? I'm running on Windows XP Edition family and the firmware I am running on the wireless router is currently 7.50.2. Can someone possibly help me, please? I apologize for the long post, but I have tried to provide as much information as I could. I'm pretty computer savvy, but this left mouth gaping me without end. thanks in advance for any help and here's hoping I am not missing something completely obvious.

I finally solve it by myself, so I'll post what I did to make it work in case someone else has this problem as well. The CD-ROM supplied with the router was completely useless to me and still does not detect that I have everything set up. So if you get errors in the program, plug in the router to your computer with the blue wire, the internet is not required. Set up your browser and type http://192.168.1.1/ in the address bar and a window will appear asking user name and password (if this does not work, a reboot may be necessary). Everything you type is admin as password. Under Configuration of him-> the basic configuration (the default page it will take you to), click on the box which says "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" and select "Static IP". It will bring up a few extra boxes, the IP address of your modem and other I think (I could be wrong, it was similar to mine). The only thing you need to fill out is the DNS, I had already written down to configure my PS3, you may need to trace and find yours. Other than that, although I do believe that it is necessary, I changed the "local IP address" 192.168.2.1 as a precaution (don't forget that if you change the innate IP of the router, the URL address, you must type in the browser to access the configuration page will change with him). I saved the changes and plugged my cable ethernet, and surprisingly enough, my internet as well as the wireless didn't work as he had before. No problems yet, but with just as much trouble I've lived with this thing, I wouldn't be surprised. Good luck everyone and I am happy to help someone who has this problem if needed.

  • A few troubleshooting questions

I have a MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, early 2015) that is running OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.4. I really like to use it, but there are a few questions that I have dealt with recently that I would like help troubleshooting.

    1. sometimes, I look at Netflix while doing other things on the computer. Sometimes my computer fan will speed up until I have to shut down the computer and let it slowly downwards. Is it normal when there are too many used battery power, or the problem can be corrected?

    2. I have an external hard drive WD MyPassport Ultra 1 .5TB, which is set up with my laptop. Lately, I've especially been "Finder" open with it to sort the files it contains. The hard drive seems to work fine, but when I shut down my computer or let it go to sleep with "Finder" open, the following error message appears when I wake up the computer (see image).

However, even when the message appears, none of the clickable options are actually clickable and just show the loading icon. Instead, I have to force quit 'Finder' and when that finally works, the only option is to force eject the hard drive and plug it back in. (then it works fine except when I let the computer go to sleep, and then the process begins again. What should I do? This doesn't seem to be a problem with the external hard drive or with the computer?

    3. lately my computer has been freezing, usually if it is not always when the Finder is in use (sorting files). It happens at random times, not always. First the cursor freezes / stops moving, then the trackpad doesn't work anymore (do not click). The only solution I've used restarts the computer, which solves the problem, until it happens again (which could be anywhere from 30 minutes to about 3 days later). How can this be repaired?

    4. I also had pop up ads when I'm even not doing anything on the internet (Safari is usually open when he arrives but reduced or hidden). What are these pop-ups? They are bad?

    Sorry for the many questions!

    Thank you!

  • The lightning disappeared from Thunderbird 38.1.0 after an unplanned shutdown. It no longer appears in "troubleshooting information - Extensions.

Today my computer turns off mode "sleep" (Windows 7). Upon restart, Thunderbird is open to the home page but was insensitive. Thunderbird I closed and re-opened and he now works as usual, but the calendar disappeared. After an advance of another answer, I checked to see if the lightning was on, to find that there is no extensions listed in "troubleshooting information. I have not yet tried to download again. I have important information stored in lightning, so I'd like to get it back as it was.

Download again. I have no idea where he went, but added again should restore all calendars etc. it contains because they are separated from the add-on.

The new App Store for El Capitan update has locked up my macbook pro.  Reboot got about 3/4 fact and the machine stops. Turned off the power and turn it on again for nothing doesn't.  How in my machine to begin troubleshooting?

The problem is most likely an attempt to update a system malfunction prior it is probably a problem with your computer, not the El Capitan.

    Start by:

Reset the PRAM and NVRAM on your Mac.

MacIntel: Reset of the controller (SMC) system management

Start in Safe Mode , and then re - start normally. It's slower that a normal start, so be patient.

    If you are unable to start;

Reinstall El Capitan without erasing the drive

Please make sure that you back up.

    1. Restart the computer. Immediately after that the chime hold down the command and R until the Utility Menu appears.
    2. Select disk utility, then click on the continue button.
    3. Select the withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) entry of the volume in the list aside.
    4. Click first aid icon in the toolbar. Wait until the button is active, then click it.
    5. Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.
    6. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

Also, see this tip for user: basic steps for the OS X upgrade.

    If this doesn't get you;

Install Yosemite or El Capitan, from scratch

    Backup if possible before proceeding.

Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the command and R buttons until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:

Select utility disc in the Menu Utility, then click the continue button.

When loading disk utility, select the volume (entered into withdrawal, usually Macintosh HD) from the list of devices.
