Hello Arnie,
I would be grateful if you could answer the following question:
(1) you get an error message / code?
(2) was there any software or hardware changes made on the computer before this problem?
Your CD or DVD drive is missing or not recognized by Windows or other programs, so you cannot play or access a CD or a DVD. This issue would have occurred after you installed, uninstalled or updated a program or you updated Windows.
Follow the link below troubleshooting methods and check if this may help;

Hi Asdlfjasdfjlasdf,
How did you install ServicePack initially?
You can try to start safe mode and try to perform a system restore.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.
2. do one of the following:
a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.
b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.
3. in the display Advanced Startup Options, use the arrow keys to select the option of safe mode you want and press ENTER. For more information about the options, see startup options (including safe mode).
4 log your computer with a user account with administrator rights.
When your computer is in safe mode, you will see marked Safe Mode in the corners of the screen. To leave safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.
If you are able to boot to the desktop in safe mode try doing a restore of the system at a point when the computer was working fine.
For more information on Safe Mode, follow the link below:

3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next
4. click on finish
Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

After you have installed windows 8 my cd rom is not working. Why this is happening
Most likely your drivers for the cd rom does not have go into Control Panel/System Device Manager and security for all marked devices other devices that may not have installed the drivers. Most likely, you will need to go to your manufacturers website and find the driver for your specific model, you should be able to download and install it from there.

Thanks in advance
cmczona,
Did you try to apply this difficulty? If you have, and it still doesn't show, try to start it. Make sure that you have a bootable disk and make sure it is set to boot from the optical drive in the BIOS first. If you can't then it's a hardware problem and the player or another material is defective...

Qosmio G20-117: bad pixels on the screen and the CD rom does not work
Hello
I have a problem with the computer hardware. I got a Qosmio G20-117 and you have a problem with the cdrom and the screen. Got bad pixels on the screen, and cdrom does not work. I live in the United Kingdom, so I tried signing up to them to choose the computer before the computer is out of warranty.
Whenever I register, it says sorry, an unexpected error has occurred, please try again later. I have tried at least 20 times since yesterday and it doesn't seem to work. I have them even called and they told me, the service is stopped and will be fixed this morning but yet nothing works.
Any solution?
Hello
If you want to contact Toshiba service partner in your country then why you don't call them?
Toshiba page you will find the database with all service providers in the world.
http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?PF=trueI don't think that you need to register something apart from the serial number of your laptop. But in my opinion this could also be done at the point of service.

It won't read a DVD. It will not read ANY CD or DVD. I tried 12 different CD/DVD. This isn't an upgrade to Vista; the computer came "made for Vista" with Vista installed on it. I had added Nero. I removed Nero. I did all the updates. I have not released the driver and reinstalled. He claims to have the latest driver software, but it won't work. The computer can see the CD/DVD, but he calls it a 'CDROM '. It is not the case. It is a DVD/Cd-RW with Labelflash.
I did everything suggested that past discussions. I ran FIXIT program that claims that the drive works properly. It is not the case.
I tried to get various programs to recognize. They cannot see the installed media.
I uninstalled iTunes.
Please do not give me the answer of cut-and - paste stock; It does not work.
Please tell me what to do to make Vista see the media inserted in the CD/DVD-RW drive.
Thank you.
