Linksys BEFSR41

Can someone explain this, I have a router 3725 (IOS12.3), acting as a VPN server with remote users running VPN Client 4.0 linking in no problem (all have their PCs connected directly to their DSL modems and have transparent tunneling enabled in VPN 4.0 client). Now, I'm trying to set up a client who wants to share their link DSL between a home PC and a laptop that they sometimes use to connect to our network by using VPN 4.0 client.

I first set up with all the settings by default on the linksys (which a IPSEC pass through active) and VPN client with active transparent tunnel, it worked fine. Then one day suddenly stopped working, I could not get it working again, I tried everything on the linksys site as port of port 500 and 10000 etc. port redirection does not, then just by chance, I have disabled the tunneling transparent on the client and it worked, then I tried to disable port forwarding and disable ipsec pass through on the linksys and it still worked and it seems to work with tunneling disabled transparent, independently of any setting on the linksys, I'm not familiar with NAT - T etc., which I heard was auto detected by the client and the router, but it's not supposed I thought that the customer required transparent tunnel to bypass a NAT device, which is the linksys router.

Anyone can do the some light on it, it has baffled me!

TIA

Mike

The Transparent tunneling functionality on the client won't actually do anything when you connect to a router. This feature allows the VPN client encapsulate every IPSec packets in UDP or TCP packets, as you say, so they will be able to go through a PAT tool. This feature works only when it connects to a VPN concentrator and must also be enabled on the hub. The default TCP/UDP ports using this feature is 10000.

This feature has been in the VPN3000 product before the introduction of NAT - T, the standard way of the IETF to make IPSec encapsulation. NAT - T is basically the same as the tunnel Transparent service, however there is no set up required of the client or in the router to make it work. The mother lode of NAT - T is endpoints automatically detects if there is a NAT device between them during the negotiation of tunnel, and if so, they encapsulate while UDP port 4500 packets.

Thus, the client and the router doing NAT - T automatically, that's why they work through LinkSys. The Transparent tunnel on the client option is the previous version of Cisco IPSec encapsulation owners, which does not work (but also does not matter if it is activated) when connecting to a router.

Hello, can someone help with this problem. I connected to a modem router linksys BEFSR41 router. But when I watched the status in linksys BEFSR41 router, it gives only an IP from the modem router and no real internet ip address.

can someone give me an answer.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't string two routers. Fill the modem/router or don't use the BEF as a router, but only as a simple switch (or replace it with a standard ethernet switch).

  • Problems with the new modem DSL and Linksys BEFSR41

My Speedstream modem died and I had to buy a new modem.  At this time of year, it is difficult to find exactly what I wanted and I ended up buying a D-Link DSL - 2320-B.  I got the Linksys BEFSR41 (old version 1, I think) for years and it has always worked well.  I have problems to get an internet connection through the router.  With the modem connected directly to the network card, as now I have no connectivity problem.  I had to change the IP address on the Linksys BEFSR41 192.168.2.1, as the modem is 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 as the old Speedstream.  I couldn't see a way to change the IP Address of the new D-Link.  I have my ICS TCP/IP set to auto obtain IP and DNS.  I was previously created for a fixed IP of * provided by the router.  Even with the setting on the router to "Obtain an IP address automatically", I can't to the internet with the router in the middle.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Your modem is a combination of the modem and the router. The problem occurs when you try to connect another router behind this configuration and end up having 2 servers dhcp and nat 2 (for port forwarding and other issues, creating in some cases where even branded products use ip addresses will clash and devices will not connect at all when him are interconnected).

To avoid the situation described above, it is recommended that you enable the full Bridge mode on the modem / router that you currently connected to the internet and let your new wireless router controls all the functions within your local network and the internet connection (you must enter all the details in the new router, including Internet service provider username and password).

For some reason, I keep losing the printer when I try to scan? I put it to a static IP address and cannot ping, but can access the printer through the network with the HP utility. Did I miss something in the router configuration that requires him to keep losing the connection?

  • The Linksys BEFSR41 V2 Firmware upgrade help

I can't open the MacBinary (.bin) files that I downloaded from linksys, in order to update my firmware. I used my utility to archive, Stuffit Expander Mac and BetterZip, and so far none of them opens the file. Anyone have the firmware upgrade in a different format or advice on how to solve my problem.

Do not touch the file you downloaded. The only software that uses it is your browser.

You must open the web interface of the router at http://192.168.1.1/ and then use the upgrade of the firmware here.

I don't know if the demo user interface is always up to date, but if it is as you should find it on the help page. See here. Click Update Firmware. Then, press the Browse button and select the .bin file that you downloaded. Then press upgrade and the browser will download the file on the router.

The BEFSR41 router interface based on web Access ther.

Go to security. the filter page.

On this page, you can block internal users to access the Internet by entering their IP address.

You can also block any request to the Internet at any particular port #.

Or you can enter a MAC address from the internal user you want to block from the Internet.

I think that these options should give, you want you want.

I am trying to post a question and not able to find a link to a new.

I actually found this link and I followed it exactly and I restarted the router with firmware update, since I had diag led flashing, that means corrupt firmware.

  • My router Linksys BEFSR41 (model) 4.2 (version) does not work after I tried

to update to firmware Ver.2.00.4 Build 5. The power still works, but I can't connect to internet with it more. I pressed reset to 30 seconds and disconnected the power for 5 seconds and restarted my PC and it still does not work. Someone knows how to fix this?

It won't even show the IP of the gateway by default more when I run the ipconfig command. I can't ping it.

What IP address you get on your computer?

Connect the modem to the Internet port and the computer and port Ethernet 1 of the router.

Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and check the IP address of your computer.

If you get a valid IP address as 192.168.1.xxx then try to ping the 192.168.1.1 IP address.

If you get the IP address auto-configuration as 169.254.x.x then assign a static IP address on the computer (192.168.1.10 subnet - 255.255.255.0, gateway - 192.168.1.1) and then try to ping the router.

If you get answers from the router then try to open the router configuration page.

  • BEFSR41: having the devices getting my other router IP

I have a wired linksys BEFSR41 running firmware 1.46 (having problems get a newer version upgrade, but that's another story).

I have other devices to obtain the IP address of another router that acts as my DHCP (assignment of the IPs in the 192.168.15.X range).  The Linksys router is also get an IP address from the DHCP server, but the machines connected to the Linksys router are get the addresses in the range 192.168.1.x when I wish they were on the other (192.168.15.x).  I disabled DHCP on the Linksys and that does not seem to matter.

I am doing a config IP on a PC connected to the Linksys and see an IP address in the range of 192.168.1.x but when I check the customer on the Linksys DHCP table there is no listed clients.

No idea how I can get the PC on the Linksys to get IP addresses in my other router?  (looking for whatever the equivalent of "access point" is for a wired router)

    Hello

Because DHCP is disabled on the BEFSR41, how you connect it to your main router? You can try to plug the BEFSR41 to the main router via a LAN to LAN connection. This means, among the routes numbered on your primary router goes to one of the numbered on your BEFSR41 port. Making the unused port WAN or internet. If the IP addresses on computers connected to the BEFSR41 still receives 192.168.1.xxx, try to ipconfig/release then ipconfig / renew on these computers.

  • BEFSR41. Run the wizzard of configuration to connect to Inet

I bought a Linksys BEFSR41a a few days basck, since my old D-Link became a little a little reliable.

    1. connect inside and follow the steps described in the living part, guide to start, but could not connect to the Internet.

    2. check the network card with ipconfig-all the and he had acquired an ip address and everything seemed normal.

    3. check the router configuration and status via the web interface. It seemed as well, at least as far as I could tell (compared with my old D-Link settings).

4 power everything, including the modem, router, switch and PCs and restarted.

    5. I tried runing the wizzard of configuration included on the disc that came with the router instead of folowing guide quick start.

6 here, now I could connect to the Internet... for a while

The problem I have now is that whenever I have turn off the modem + router, as I do every night, I have to run the wizzard of configuration to make it work again the next day. And no, leaving on is not an option! It is a real pain in the * beep * and I'm close to throwing away the new router. What did the wizzard to works and why is he not saved in the configuration of the router?

I have a cable connection and my PC is running Win XP.  I hope someone can help

Hi TheMOOSE and welcome to the forums!

Since you have a cable connection, it is advisable that when you turn on your device, do it in the right order. It still works for me. It should be the first modem, then the router and your computer.

There is no need to run the wizard to set up everytime, because the router is already set.

  • Configure BEFSR41 V.2.1. to use as switch with ADSL ZTE Modem in Bridged mode

I found a thread of 2009 who has a link that could help me with this configuration, but the link does not work.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 V.2.1 and need to set it up, so I can use it as a switch with our ZTE 831 ADSL Modem, which is in bridged Mode.

The IP address of the BEFSR41 changed to avoid a conflict with the address IP of Modem ZTE ADSL, which is 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1.

If the PC is connected directly to the ZTE ADSL Modem, I can access the Internet and I can access the Menu of Configuration of Modem ZTE.

If the PC is directly connected to the Linksys BEFSR41, I can access the Menu of Configuration Linksys.

If the PC is connected to the Linksys BEFSR41, and which is connected to the ZTE ADSL Modem, I can't access the Internet, and I cannot Ping the ZTE ADSL Modem.

Please give me a URL that indicates how the Linksys BEFSR41 should be configured to use as a switch with my ADSL Modem from ZTE in bridged Mode.

My belief is that after I have the Linksys set up, I then plug the ZTE ADSL modem in the Linksys unit and use it to DHCP.

DRM for your time and help! Lanny

    1. I never told of any change on the Advanced Routing page.

2 do not connect the internet port for ZTE with this kind of configuration. You cannot use the internet port.

    3. Once you set that you can use the remaining LAN for ethernet devices ports in your local network.

  • ERRO 'bad gateway entered' after firmware upgrade BEFSR41

I have updated the firmware on my router Linksys BEFSR41 V4.3. On this router I used Statis IP (if DHCP active). It worked well on my network, until this upgrade. Now when I try to ad another static IP address, or when I want to change something in the Routing tab, I get this message " bad gateway entry! It should be the same WAN IP subnet "." Strange because I have not changed anything in the settings.
I did a full reset on the router, still the same problem.

    Any suggestions?

Enable the DHCP server on the BEF. That's all. There is no need of any static routes in this configuration.

If you enable the DHCP server, either change these static IP 192.168.1.100 etc. for addresses outside the server DHCP address pool (default 192.168.1.100 - 149) or adjust the DHCP server address pool, for example to change IP address of 192.168.1.100 DHCP start 192.168.1.10 or 192.168.1.200 or whatever you want. The important thing is that static IP addresses are not inside the DHCP server address pool.

  • BEFSR41 v.3 works do not with my DSL

    Hi all!

Here's my problem: I have a CenturyLink DSL connection in my house and his works fine. I just got a new Linksys BEFSR41 v.3. I'm setting up for my PC, Xbox360 and BD player. Everything works fine when I plug them into the DSL modem 1 by 1 but when I try to put the Linksys 'in the middle'... nothing... So I'm sure that this isn't my DSL modem or connection.

All the lights lights Linksys as they should (power supply, ethernet and the internet), but for some reason any, it seems not to get trought the internet router. When its connected and I pull up my internet browser I type 192.168.1.1 and it takes me on the linksys config site. Without the router at the same address, go to the Westell website because it is my DSL modem. Everything looks good on the site config. All the IP address, MAC, DNS address are there and still no internet access on any of my camera.

I tried every possible settings I can find on the net.

Thank you and sorry for my bad English

    Solved thanks

In the Linksys config page, I changed the IP of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1 and everything works fine now

    Thanks again

  • BEFSR41 Ver 3 connection to the modem Motorola 2210 problem

I have a simple (I hope) home office network configuration.  I have a router Linksys BEFSR41 Ver 3, a Vonage phone device, a couple of computers and printers all hooked into the router.  The problem appeared when my old modem is dead.  I replaced the old modem with the Motorola 2210 (from AT & T) and configure the modem, so now the internet works if I plug the line directly into my computer.  When I try to run it through the Linksys router, the signal comes through.  I've turned off and rebooted twice and the second time I did it in a particular order, but still no signal through the router.

I see that the IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254 is the modem.  It seems that something needs to be reset somewhere, but since I'm no computer, I don't know what to reset where...  I read the other posts and they speak to reset a PPPoE on the BEF, but where do you do that?  And is there something different about my router 3 worm?    Any help is appreciated... I'm pretty frustrated and miss me phone calls from my device Vonage is not connected...

Thank you very much in advance...

    Leslie

You the problem is that you try to use the same subnet 192.168.1.x into the WAN (Internet) port and the LAN of your BEFSR41 ports.  You can't do that.

Your modem is apparently made your PPPoE connection for you.  So you should NOT repeat this PPPoE connection in the BEFSR41.

    Setting network, follow these steps:

    (1) put your entire network.

    (2) disconnect all other devices BEFSR41.

    (3) connect your computer to one of the four ports LAN on the BEFSR41.

    (4) turn on the BEFSR41 and your computer.

    (5) point your browser to 192.168.1.1 and connect to your BEFSR41.

    (6) change the "Internet Connection Type" to «DHCP - auto»

    (7) change "local IP address" 192.168.2.1

    8) click the 'Save Settings' button, and then wait the screen refresh (3-60 seconds).  You will be disconnected from the BEFSR41.  Don't worry about this.

    (9) turn off the BEFSR41 and your computer.

    (10) wire the ethernet port of your modem to the Internet (WAN) on the BEFSR41 port.  Leave your computer connected to the BEFSR41.

    (11) power of your network.  It should work.

BEFSR41 using you now on its LAN ports 192.168.2.x subnet.  You can now connect to the BEFSR41 facility to 192.168.2.1

  • BEFSR41 and New Modem/router DSL

Verizon has recently replaced my DSL modem with a new DSL modem/router with a dynamic IP address. Even though I have full internet access with the new modem of the Setup for my Linksys BEFSR41 router disk will not be connected to the internet. What should I do for the new modem so that the Setup disk will see the internet? The DSL modem/router has only one port so I'm not able to have more than one computer/device hooked up at the same time so I still need my router.

Well how about you that :-) It all works now. Thank you guys.
