HP Compaq dc5850-SFF black screen

Hello. Generalize what happened: I was given one of these computers for free from my school who was said to work. I opened and installed some of the good RAM (3 GB). I also checked that all the cables are properly connected and that they were. The problem, that I get when I turn on the computer, this is what happens:

  1. The green power light turns on
  2. Hard drive green light goes on for a very short duration)<0.5>
  3. CPU and PSU fans turns at normal speed
  4. The hard drive makes a click and normally turns
  5. Then it crashes. Nothing happens, the HDD LED stays off

The monitor does not detect a signal and turns off with the message "No Signal"

So I tested around the components in movement and trying the procedures on the troubleshooting guide.

  1. Removed the RAM and ironed in different orders, all properly with a click. No results.
  2. Changed hard drive twice with two other people with an operating system on them. No results.
  3. Used 3 different cables for power supply and VGA monitor. No results.
  4. Tried to reset the BIOS using the F10 procedure. No results.
  5. Reset the CMOS. Not sure if this helped or not.

I'm stuck for ideas. The computer has not been started at the top with any other perephials outside of a keyboard and a mouse (who both work on other computers). This computer uses the default CPU who is seated correctly. It does not heat and so does the PSU, but not at an alarming temperature.

Thanks for the help.

OK... this one, that you can ignore for sure:

'The monitor does not detect a signal and turns off with the 'No Signal' message'

The monitor is simply not read a graphic signal from the motherboard, so she stops.  100% normal for her to do.

Are see you the BIOS flash screen when the PC is first turned on?  For a normal CV, you should see the logo, and then there will be instructions on which key press to enter the BIOS.

There are two connections to focus on.

1. the power supply to the motherboard (if it connects to the motherboard).  This should be a great 20 or 24 pins

2. the data cable from the hard drive to the motherboard (if it connects to the motherboard).  If it is a SATA connector, it will be a small clip almost at the end of a speakerwire-like threads of connection.  If you have the IDE, there will be a large flat 20 studs who sort of looks like the power cable where it joins the motherboard

* You can also try unconnecting and reconnecting the power to the processor.  This is I think a connector 4 pins near the processor.  Careful with the connectors because some of them have a clip on the back side of the box that you must hold in to remove the connector to the connection.  Yet once, make sure that the PC is unplugged and you are connected to the earth when there is a risk that you could touch the motherboard.

If you have reset the motherboard, you did all you can.  However, this does not mean the PC is finished or broken.

The situation that I had was very similar.  Power would reach the card mother and the hard drive and DVD ROM.  So basically nothing would happen.  It's so frustrating because it's not all the information to work with.  However, I made the PC out of a project rather that simply determine to fix it on the spot.  So, over time a month, once from time to time I want to spend an hour or so DIY/clean the inside etc.  As a first step, that the BIOS was not yet running.  Finally, the BIOS ran, but the drive was not found.  Finally, after having removed the hard drive once more and unplug power cable from the PSU, I reconnected it all, and the PC starts.  For about two weeks, it was on and outside, but then after this period of use of the PC was starting up every time just as usual.

You can be in such a situation, if you want to invest time in the PC.

It is locked in the BIOS. If you want to overclock build your own machine, do not use the machines of the brand. Reason: overclock machine will generate more heat and can fried a machine at any time. No seller would send customers machines returning due to lack of material.

I just got a refurbished Compaq 7700. It has Windows XP for drives of the refurbished computers.

I try to boot from the hard drive (HD) and infinite loops, it is never past the initial home screen (black with blue status bar).

I can't open the safe or the HD mode, it freezes at kmxstart.sys and then restarts again.

I tried to boot from the disk and created Windows appears, then load the files, but then automatically tries to start Windows (without repair option). It then jumps to the BSoD with error code (after advice to verify sufficient disk space, to disable the driver identified, to change video cards, BIOS updates...)

I got a new Philips 18.5 "monitor, an optical mouse and a keyboard with it.

I tried a few options in the BIOS screen as well, but no dice.

Compaq presario sr5450 desktop stop with beep .the beepis on 17 seconds and off for 10 seconds. Ichanged power supplys but still the same beep and black screen

    Hello

"beep" codes normally indicate a hardware problem / failure.

Go to your computer manufacturer's website and look at the specifications of your PC to see what BIOS you have

Then read this on the 'beep' error codes to try to see what failed:

    http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

    http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/nonworkingcomponent/HT/beepcodestb.htm

If you are unable to determine the hardware problem yourself, contact the manufacturer if under warranty.

If it is not under warranty, find a good repair shop premises to take.

Here are the Codes of BIOS "beep" for an HP machine and the reasons why:

  • Compaq Presario CQ61-420US no start/black screen

    Hi all.

I have a compaq presario CQ61-420US having similar problems below, except I have a black screen, fan flashing lights turns is the same (num lock and cap lock) but they Flash continuously every second or 2.  I tried the hard reset with the fix of ram, connect an external monitor, change the battery and the power adapter, nothing helps. I also used the air compressed on the vents, just in case was riddled with dust because it overheats and can cause problems, but nothing.

    Any other suggestions?

An option I can think of is to buy a new motherboard, but I'm going to try something else before that.

    AlexisGonzalezC,

You can try the above solution the other person sugguested.

Sorry, but it is very difficult to help without a touch your computer and troubleshoot it if there is a hardware problem.

I predict that GPU your computer has a pseudo brazing or cold joint problem.

    Good luck.

  • Black screen, two flashes on Compaq Presario CQ 61 (CQ61-325ED)

    Hi all

I have a problem with my Compaq Presario CQ61. It does not start. What I see is a black screen, with the numlock lights and capslock flashes twice every two seconds.

According to blink codes, it seems that the BIOS was corrupted (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 unfortunately, no adequate solution which appear on this page.)

Win + B or Fn + B at startup does nothing, pressing all gives them a reason for continuous flashing keys arrow me (edit: I can't reproduce this...). I also tried to create a bootable USB key with a BIOS update, but I don't think that I did it correctly, for it never gets activated (the light on the USB key turns).

In addition, remove/replace the Rams or the RAMs one does not work. Don't remove/replace the CMOS battery.

Can someone help me fix this or explain to me in detail how to successfully create a USB bootable with updated BIOS for CQ61-325ED?

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: If this isn't the right sub-forum for this kind of questions, and you are a moderator, please be so kind to go the correct sub-forum in this topic

I had the same problem with my cq61. The key Win + B pressings has worked for me a lot for my greatest pleasure after a very frustrating night. I hope this helps others. My laptop has 4-1/2 years old and I am surprised by his longevity, because it was a special purchase of Wal-Mart.

For now, we can only suggest using the utilities provided with your backup device and create some external media backup before starting the upgrade in case that happens. If this happens and you live near a Microsoft Store, make an appointment with them to have your device looking if you experience the problem. Some reports (such as those of our comments) indicate that disabling anti-virus programs before performing the upgrade prevents this issue. »

  • HP Compaq d530 SFF DIMMs do not recognize. Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit - BIOS version 02.44

    Hello HP community!

I recently got a HP Compaq d530 SFF of the company, where I had my work experience.

Fortunately, I took their offer and took the PC at home, everything was going well until I bought myself some new DIMM from ebuyer.com.

I again for a fact, the computer must DDR 333 MHz, PC2700 and it must be in DIMM format, so I went and bought 3x1Go modules. A few days later they arrived and I have them inserted in the computer, ensuring that two DIMMs was in blue locations and others (I wanted to keep a 256 MB module to) in the black sites.

I have re-inserted power cable and tried to boot the PC, he showed me a BIOS message, showing that the amount of memory has changed, since the last boot. Once the configuration is presented, he acknowledged only the 256 MB module. I then turned off the computer, and then remove the 256 MB module, to see what would happen. So, I restarted the PC, and it gave me an error (not shown) tone. To which I then tried (needles) each DIMM different to see if one of them was vice. They are all gave me the same error tone. Since then, I've been running Windows Vista Home Premium, with 1 GB (4x256MB DIMM).

Maybe someone has a suggestion how to fix this?

I've already updated the version of the BIOS at 02.44 (later I could find).

    Thanks in advance!

    Yours sincerely Simon Cahill

    Beatsleigher,

Not all memory is the same, even when picking PC2700. Did you buy non ECC?

    Hi there @golila

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, so many other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that the display on your all-in-one is black at startup, and you tried to connect an external display. I'm happy to help you.

Now, I can certainly understand your frustration because of the circular nature of the problem. I would say that first of all concentrate on the main display. I realize, you've probably already tried this, but just in case where to navigate on this page:

HP and Compaq all-in-One and HP TouchSmart desktop PC - screen is blank after you start the computer

If you do not answer on the main screen, then you are pretty much left with a repair option, because you can't work without loading the drivers of the external USB adapter. So if you want to check your repair options, please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a folder for your question and contact HP.
